Twelve Houses - I These are some of the special features of Lal Kitab’s astrology. They may look strange but it should be remembered that the basis of astrology in Lal Kitab is palmistry. Some of these features are useful in suggesting remedies. The concept of artificial planets particularly is of great help in remedies against planetary ills. Mercury is an enemy of Jupiter. If Mercury afflicts Jupiter we may try to help Jupiter because the group of Jupiter and Rahu together is an artificial Mercury. If Jupiter is propitiated Mercury shall lose half of his strength and Jupiter shall become extra strong. In case Jupiter afflicts Mercury we should propitiate Venus because Sun and Venus constitute Jupiter. By strengthening Venus we shall be increasing power of Mercury (Venus is Mercury’s friend) and decreasing the power of affliction of Jupiter.
The Twelve Houses of the horoscope There are twelve signs in the natural Zodiac and 12 houses in the horoscope. All affairs of human life are divided into 12 classes and each class of affair is in the domain of one or the other house of the chart. Out of the 12 houses the first house or the lagna is the most important of them all. Being the first house all the subsequent houses stand in relation to it. Every thing depends upon the strength or otherwise of this house. Lal Kitab states that the house is the house of struggle between Maya and Jiva or the soul and matter. In other words it is the house of struggle to get liberation from the shakles of Maya. It is the throne of the ruler. The achievements or failures of the native depend largely upon this house. In Lal Kitab this house also stands for education, intelligence and longevity. Mars is the ruler of the house. Sun is the natural significator. In fact Sun represents the human soul and vitality in the physical body. Planet posited in house No. 1 aspects the planets in house No. 7 and unburdens itself to some extent provided the house No. 7 is occupied and not vacant. If this house is
vacant the planets in house No. 1 become inert. This is also true if the lagna is not occupied. The lagna house becomes inactive or weak. This house has a relationship with house No. 11. If the latter is unoccupied the planet in lagna gives good results. If there are a two or more planet in lagna Venus becomes the judge to decide about the nature of results. In other words Venus gets importance if there are two or more planets in the lagna. Incidently, house No. 2 is the Dharmasthana or the place of worship. Venus is its ruler. It is but natural that our own deeds or misdeeds come to play their part in the struggle for liberation. House No. 2 stands is the Dharmasthana or the place of worship. It also has the portfolios of wealth, education, honour and mind. This is the house that stands for the fruits of the karmas or the deeds and misdeeds of the native. Here is the seat of Jupiter the jagat Guru or the preceptor of the world at large. House No. 9 is considered to be the ocean of Karmas. It is from house No. 9 that the winds laden with water of the Karmas rise and pour it on house No. 2. For good results of House No. 2 the house No. 8 should be vacant or unoccupied. The results are likely to be better if house No. 2 is also vacant. This may appear strange but every thing becomes clear if we go by the assumptions of Lal Kitab. Planets in house No. 2 are aspected by the planets in house 2 aspect the planets in house No. 6. If houses 2, 6 and 8 are all occupied the poison of house No. 8 shall be transferred to house No. 6 through the agency of the aspect of the planets in house No. 2. If houses 2 and 8 are both vacant there is no question of compounding the troubles of 6th house. House No. 2 gets its strength from house No. 4. Wherever there is a severe onslaught of misfortunes from house No. 9 due to the weakness of Dharmasthana or the Jagatguru or Venus, house No. 4, comes to rescue. In times of adversities we should look towards the strength of 4th house, its lord the natural significator or Karaka Moon who stands for mother as well as mortality and mind. Perhaps mother's blessings may help the native tide over his/her difficulties. Lal Kitab refers to house No. 3 as the times of exit from this world and the gateway of exit. In other words we come to know about the time of death and its causes. As illness is one of the routine ways of exit we have to judge the illness and diseases from this house. This is an inauspicious and malefic house that way. Malefics in Dusthanas or inauspicious houses are normally considered to be a good placement.
According to Lal Kitab are placements of sinners meaning Rahu and Ketu in house No. 3 is horrible. It is said that even if they are not able to bring about the end itself they shall be competent to bring about death-like position. This may happen when house 3 is occupied by Rahu or Ketu and houses 6 and/or 8 by malefics. In adversities this house gets strength from 12th house even though the planets in 12th house are enemies of the planets in the 3rd house. In a hypothetical case let us assume that Ketu occupies house No. 3 and Mars is posited in house No. 12. Mars is an enemy of Ketu but in emergencies Mars will always help Ketu despite his enmity. Ketu shall have no ill effects upon the native. Likewise Jupiter in the 3rd house and Mercury his enemy, in 12th house will not be able to cause any harm. On the other hand there will be all round happiness and prosperity. If the houses are occupied by two or more planets we have to assess the harm, in any, in respect of each planet and then draw our final conclusions. Rahu and Venus in 12th house normally being about the death of the partner – wife or husband – in 24/25th year of the native. If Saturn occupies the 3rd house simultaneously Rahu will not be able to play his mischief. Saturn will help Venus. Mercury is the lord of 3rd house, Mars its natural Significator and Rahu shall have the dignity of exaltation. House No. 4 is the period of childhood and the prenatal period. It also covers the old age. Moon is the lord and natural significator of the house. It is a wellknown assumption that Moon is strong by night. Similar is the position of planets in this house. They are strong by the night and also when there is some trouble. Jupiter gets exalted here. No planet gives bad effects to the affairs of this house if Moon does not occupy and of the house No. 1, 4, 7 or 10. Even the rank malefics like Rahu and Ketu become benefics for this house is Moon does not occupy any of the quandrangular houses. The bad effects of planets in house No. 4 are transferred to the affairs of the house occupied by Saturn. For the pre-natal period if any if Jupiter, Sun, Mars or Mercury are in 4th house and child will be safe and healthy in mother’s womb before birth and even Rahu or Ketu would not be able to spoil that. House No. 5 is the house of progeny and the future of the native. How shall the native fare in the world can be known from his house No. 5. About the welfare of children also we have to judge the same house. So long as Jupiter is in good position there shall be peace and prosperity. This means
that Jupiter should be benefic by his placement and position in the annual progressed charts. If houses 6 and/or 10 are afflicted the articles connected with the planet inimical to the planet in 5th house should be kept under ground in the house. If house No. 8 is also afflicted the article should be kept under ground in the ancestral house. In case house No. 5 is occupied by Rahu and Saturn, Venus in 11th house, Ketu in 8th and Jupiter in the 10th house there shall be illness initially to the partner and thereafter the son is likely to suffer. For this malady loaves of bread or flour of the weight of the son should be given to dogs for 25 to 48 days. If house 4 or 4 or 9 is afflicted the planet in house 5 shall give bad results. The planets in houses 6 or 10 will also give bad results without any regard whether they are friends or foes of the planet in house No. 5. Rahu and Ketu will influence results according to their placement in the chart. Sun is the lord of this house. Jupiter is the Karaka graha or the natural significator planet for the house. House No. 6 is known as the hidden world, treasure house of mercy and providential help. House No. 6 is ruled by Mercury and hence the planet in house No. 6 is likely to afflict the results of house occupied by Mercury, Ketu or Venus. House No. 6 is aspected by the planets in house No. 2 and the house No. 8 through house No. 2. In such a case if Mercury or Rahu happen to be posited in house 6 there would be no bad effects of the malefics on the house because it is the house of exaltation for both of them. Ketu is the natural significator of the affairs of the house. It has been said above the houses 2, 6 and 8 are mutually inter-connected with each other. While attempting and modification in any of the houses including the 6th house we have to keep in view all the three houses. If house No. 6 is unoccupied there shall be no transfer of the afflictions of 8th and 2nd houses. There shall also be no aspect from 6th house to 12th house. The obvious result would be that the planets in 2nd and 12th houses will get extra strength. To avail of this opportunity is houses 2 and 3 are occupied by benefics it would always be helpful to awaken house No. 6. This is possible by serving the maternal uncles (helping them) or serving the daughters of the daughter. Except Sun, Jupiter and Moon all the other planets in 6th house would be offering their own results. Mercury and Ketu will not offer good results till the age of the planet in house 6 or 8. The question of the ages of planets will be dealt with at its proper
place. Although the planets in house No. 6 are aspected by the planets in house No. 2 but the position would be reversed in the case of Saturn who will aspect house No. 2 from 6th house.
Twelve Houses - II House No. 7 is known for the family affairs, where the native has to struggle hard for fulfilling his material wants of bread, clothing the housing etc. It has been apply described by Lal Kitab in the following words. The native gets ground between the earth and the sky for food . Here Akaash, Zameen, Rizque and Akal have been used metaphorically for Venus and Mercury because both these planets are the natural significators and Venus is also the lord of the house. The native sweats himself out in search of his food and clothing etc. Sun, Moon and Rahu offer the results according to the placement and position of Venus. Bad results due to the position of Venus cannot be improved or mitigated by remedies. In other words these results shall come to pass and the remedies will all go waste. Mercury, Saturn and Ketu shall give their results at various periods. If these results are bad we may try some remedial measures and they shall be set right or improved. Normally the male planets affect the male relations and the female planets on affliction affect the female ones. In house 7 if the planets are more than two in number only the male relatives are affected. Sun, Mars and Jupiter are the male planets. Moon and Venus are females. House No. 8 deals with death and justice. Here justice means eye for eye and tooth for tooth. In other words the justice is on the basis of tit for tat. It is the joint seat of Mars and Saturn. Both are the natural significators of the house if Sun, Moon and Jupiter singly or jointly occupy this house the bad effects remain limited to house No. 8 and its affairs. Saturn, Moon or Mars occupying this house singly give only good fruits. Saturn, Moon or Mars occupying this house singly give only good fruits. If, however, any two
or all the three together join in this house they give bad results. Saturn will give deaths after deaths. Moon shall affect the health of the persons. Mars and Mercury occupying the house jointly give good results only if Saturn occupies house No. 2. In such a case Mars shall be malefic or the negative Mars. House No. 8 has its influence on house 6. If any of these houses is afflicted the results will be bad for both the houses. In such cases the planets in 12th house should also be judged. The planets may be friendly or inimical the planets in 12th house shall influence the results. Moon is the most powerful planet for the affairs of 8th house. Moon by strength of his placement and position can undo the ill of 12th house also. The cause of the malefic nature of 8th house will be house No. 4 through house No. 2. In other words the houses 2, 4 and 8 should be judged simultaneously. The planets in house 8, if inimical to planets in 2nd house and 11th will strike at the most vulnerable point. House No. 9 is known as the commencement of luck. Lucky period of the native shall start, good or bad, when the planet in this house becomes effective. The house is considered to be a great ocean. In case the house is inert, it can be activised through house No. 2 if the other two houses namely the houses 3 and 5 are unoccupied. Any of the planets who has been dormant till he transits house No. 9 and becomes active he will give results at his own age till his period is completed. Every planet has been assigned a particular period of age. By way of illustration, if Jupiter is in house 2 and transits the house in the progressed chart he will give results at the age of 16 and continue to do so till 16 years. Planets in house No. 5 aspect the planets in house 9. If Sun or Moon occupy house 9 there will be no bad effects of even Rahu and Ketu. House No. 9 is the seat of Jupiter. House No. 10 is treated as the ground for the foundation of luck. The planet transiting the house, according to the progressed chart, becomes a doubtful planet. This is to say that nobody can be sure about the nature of results to be given by the planet. The planet in 9 at the time of his transiting house 10 will give bad results even though the planets in house 6 & 5 are the friends. The nature of results would depend upon the nature of houses 8 and 2. The results will be bad if house 8 is afflicted and good if house 2 is in good shape. If house No. 10 is occupied by inimical planets their results shall be unpredictable An idea of the nature of results can be formed from the position and placement of Moon. If Moon is benefic
good results shall be obtained. In case house 10 is unoccupied the planets in house No. 4 will not be able to give good results. Saturn is the natural significator of the house. House No. 11 indicates all about the native’s status and condition. Personal income and earnings of the native and his relation with the world at large can be judged from this house. The results of Rahu and Ketu, if occupying the house, can be judged and they will be good normally if house No. 3 is vacant. They will however, give bad results in house No. 8. Ketu in house No. 11 would nullify the good effects of Moon and if Rahu occupies the house Jupiter’s good results would be spoilt. Vice versa in each case would also be true. Lal Kitab has given great importance to this house and planets in it. Even Rahu and Ketu give good results. If Rahu is a benefic the native shall not accept a single penny from his parents and whatever he gets will be lost to him due to one reason or the other; but all that he earns by the sweat of his own brow will be with and give him pleasure. House No. 12 is the place of final rest according to the deeds or misdeeds of the native. House 10 reflects the physical valour etc. of the native but 12th deals with the character etc. If houses 2, 6 and 8 are occupied the native has good character. If houses 2 and 8 are occupied and there is no planet inimical to planet in 8th house the person shall command a keen intellect of very high order. If the life span is divided into 4 compartments we can judge how the native shall fare by the houses 1 to 3, 4, to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 in each part of his life respectively. Planet in No. 11, its position and placement shall give a glimpse of worldly status of the native. This can be modified by the condition of house No. 12. For improvement of the position of 12th house we look to house No. 1 and its planets. In other words, we can improve and get better results in house No. 12 if we can somehow improve the position of planets in lagna. If lagna is vacant we should go to house No. 2 for improvement.

Danger from the king (government), separation from parents, journeys to foreign lands, distress from thieves, snakes, and poison, punishment by government, antagonism with the friends, sorrows, danger from fever, etc. There will be physical fitness, gain of wealth or the birth of a son, success in performance of pious deeds, headship of a small village, etc. Obstacles in availability of food, fears, and loss of wealth and cattle. There will be distress at the commencement of the Antar Dasha with some mitigation at its end. KETU- MOON Effect of the Antar Dasha of Moon in the Maha Dasha of Ketu Inspite of great efforts the gains may be limited. Happiness and unhappiness may be attained, wealth may be acquired and both auspicious and inauspicious events may occur. Wife, children and servants may be overcome by laziness and lethargy, one's son may be harmed and the mind may be disturbed. Effects like recognition from the king ( government), enthusiasm, well being, enjoyments acquisition of a house, land, etc. Abnormal gains of food, clothes, conveyances, cattle, etc., success in business construction of reservoirs, etc., and happiness to wife and children. The beneficial results will be realized fully if Moon is waxing. Unhappiness and mental agony, obstacles in ventures, separation from parents, losses in the business, destruction of cattle, etc. There will be the acquisition of a cow of cows, land, agricultural lands, meeting kinsmen and the achievement of success
through them, increase in cows milk and curd. Cordial relations with the king ( government) in he middle portion of the Antar Dasha Danger from the king (government ) foreign journey or journeys to distant places in the end of Antar Dasha. Loss of wealth, anxiety, enmity with kinsmen and distress to brother. KETU- MARS Effect of the Antar Dasha of Mars in the Maha Dasha of Ketu One may attain defame in work involving courage and there is a possibility of quarrels with neighbors. Work and business may suffer losses and the company of wicked persons may cause pain. There may be enmity towards wife, son, younger brother and family members. There may be physical pain due to ailments, poison and burning sensation. The king may cause pain and friends may be destroyed.Effects like acquisition of land, village, etc., increase in wealth and cattle, laying out of a new garden, gain of wealth by the beneficence of the king. There will be gain of land and enjoyment. There will be recognition from the king, great popularity and reputation and happiness from children and friends. There will be fear of death or disaster during a foreign journey, diabetes, unnecessary troubles and danger from thieves and the king and quarrels. High fever, danger from poison, distress to wife, mental agony. There will be enjoyment and gain of property. KETU- RAHU Effect of the Antar Dasha of Rahu in the Maha Dasha of Ketu There is a possibility of physical ailments and accidents. Mental agony and disturbance of happiness may occur. Fear of king and thieves prevail, enmity with wicked people and obstacle in all work may occur. Increase of wealth and gain of wealth, grains, cattle, lands and village from a Yavan king ( high dignitary of a foreign country.) There will be some trouble at the commencement of the Dasha but all will be well later. Frequent urination , weakness in the body, cold fever, danger from thieves, intermittent fever, opprobrium quarrels, diabetes, pain in stomach. KETU- JUPITER Effect of the Antar Dasha of Jupiter in the Maha Dasha of Ketu Faith in God
and elders prevail. The king will be favorable, there will be contacts with recognized people and financial condition remain good. Sympathy, philanthropy and a cool mentality cause happiness. Good health prevails, fame, land and bliss of son are attained Increase in wealth and grains, beneficence of the king, enthusiasm, gain of conveyances, etc., celebration like birth of a son at home, performance of pious deeds, Yagyas, conquest of the enemy and enjoyments. Danger from thieves, snakes, and wounds, destruction of wealth, separation from wife and children, physical distress, etc. Some good effects may be felt at the commencement of the Antar Dasha, there will be only adverse results later. There will be gains of many varieties of garments, ornaments by the beneficence of the king, foreign journeys, taking care of kinsmen, availability of decent food. KETUSATURN Effect of the Antar Dasha of Saturn in the Maha Dasha of Ketu Lack of ethical behaviour and mental restlessness prevails. The mind is agonized and fearful, there are conflicts with friends and one may have to leave one's native place. Loss of wealth and position and anxiety about money is possible. Effects like distress to oneself and one's kinsmen, agony, increase in cattle wealth. Loss of wealth as a result of imposition of fines by government, resignation from the existing post, journeys to foreign lands, and danger of thieves during travelling. There will be loss of wealth and lethargy. Success in all ventures, happiness from the employer, comforts during journeys, increase in happiness and property in ones own village, audience with the king ( visits to high dignitaries). There will be physical distress, agony, obstacles in ventures, lethargy, defamation, death of parents. KETU- MERCURY Effect of the Antar Dasha of Mercury in the Maha Dasha of Ketu Prudence and intelligence prevails and education brings happiness Job and business brings moderate gains and the financial condition improves. There may be contacts and assistance from friends. At the end of the dasha there may be obstacles in work, wasteful expenditure and mental agony. Effects like acquisition of a kingdom (attainment of a high position in government), enjoyment, charities, gain of wealth and land, birth of a son, celebration of
religious functions and functions like marriage suddenly, well- being in the family, gain of clothes, ornaments. There will be association with men of learning, dawn of fortune, and listening to religious discourses. Antagonism with government officials, residing in other people's houses, destruction of wealth, clothes conveyances, and cattle. There will be some beneficial effects at the commencement of the Dasha, still better results in the middle but inauspicious at the end. There will be good health, happiness from one's son, opulence and glory, availability of good food and clothes, and abnormal profits in business. Distress, unhappiness and troubles to wife and children, and danger from the king (government ) may be expected at the commencement of the Antar Dasha. There will, however, be visits to sacred places in the middle of the Dasha
ASTROLOGICAL Yogas In Vedic astrology associations the planets form or variations of how they are placed in the chart are referred to as Yogas. Yoga means union, or that which joins or yokes. Most yogas are composed of more than one planet. The idea behind most yogas is to equate the planet's strength in a chart, and how and when it will produce its effects in the person's life. This is generally determined through the dashas of the planets. If a planet is involved in many good, strength producing yogas it will give it's beneficial results at the time the person enters the dasha of that planet. There are auspicious yogas for wealth, success, and happiness as well as inauspicious yogas for downfall, poverty and ill health. The yogas outlined here are the most basic yogas, there are hundreds of yogas to be memorized. But it is more important to understand the concept behind these names. There are three major yogas based on house rulership. They are Raja Yoga, Dhana Yoga, and Arista Yoga. Raja Yoga The first mentioned here is a Raja Yoga. Raja Yoga means "royal union", it is formed by the association of planets and the houses they rule. Raja Yoga is formed by a planet of a kendra house together with a planet of a triconal house. The kendra houses (1,4,7,10) are the houses of manifestation and the triconal houses (1,5,9) are the houses of purpose or dharma. The first house
serves as both. When planets are combined with both action and purpose great things manifest. Yoga Karaka A Yoga karaka is when one single planet forms Raja Yoga by itself. It rules two different houses, one is a triconal and one is a kendra. The first house can serve as either in the combination. In both Taurus and Libra ascendants Saturn is the Yoga Karaka. In Taurus ascendant Saturn rules the 9th (trinal) house, and the 10th (kendra) house. For Libra ascendants Saturn rules both the 4th(kendra) and the 5th (trinal). Other ascendants that have a Yoga Karaka are Capricorn and Aquarius. They both have Venus as the Yoga Karaka. With Capricorn Ascendant Venus rules the5th and the 10th. Aquarius ascendant Venus rules the 4th and 9th. For Cancer and Leo ascendants Mars is the Yoga Karaka. Cancer ascendant will have Mars rule the 5th and the 10th. Leo ascendants will have Mars rule the 4th and the 9th. No other ascendants will have a single planet rule both a kendra and a trine. These are the only ascendants to have a Yoga Karaka. A Yoga Karaka planet will be a planet that brings great benefit to the chart, even though it may be a natural malefic planet. Yoga Karakas Taurus: Saturn / Libra: Saturn Capricorn: Venus/ Aquarius: Venus Cancer: Mars/ Leo: Mars Dhana Yoga The second major yoga defined by house rulership is Dhana Yoga. This yoga brings material wealth and money,
because it links the money houses 1, 2, 11 5, 9. The combination of any one of these houses combined with the 1st house ruler would bring wealth to the individual. Actually any combination of these houses would create Dhana Yoga, but the 1st house combination is the strongest. Arista Yoga The third major yoga formed by house rulership is the Arista Yoga. This is the yoga of suffering and spirituality. Usually the suffering is from illness. The combination of the rulers of the most difficult houses (trik or dusthana) (6,8,12) are combined, but again when these houses are combined with the ruler of the 1st this brings the suffering to the individual. Again as in the Dhana Yoga, any combination of these house rulers would constitute Arista Yoga. Generally it is through our suffering that spirituality is sought. Therefore this yoga will produce both suffering and spiritual opportunities. A planetary combination of two or more planets can form all three of these yogas, indicating the joy and pain combined in one's life. For example if the combination of 2 planets create an Arista Yoga and a Dhana Yoga. The planets rule 2 houses (except the Sun and Moon) each, so you would be merging 4 houses together. Therefore 2 planets can be both a Raja Yoga, and a Arista Yoga. Parivartana Yoga Another way in which planets can be connected is through parivartana yoga. This is called mutual reception in western astrology. The planets receive connection through
being in each other's sign of rulership. For example: Mars in Cancer, and Moon in Scorpio, Mars is in the sign ruled by Cancer, and the Moon is in the sign ruled by Mars. Their rulerships exchange signs. A special note if you have a planet that is in aspect, and in parivartana then you have 2 planets in a Sambandha, this means they are completely connected. This makes these planets connect and operate together. They work in unison. When entering a dasha of a planet involved in parivartana yoga it would simultaneously activate the other planet through this connection. An example of sambandha is the Sun in Aquarius and Saturn in Leo. The Sun and Saturn mutually aspect each other plus they are in each other's sign of rulership. Pancha Mahapurusha Yogas These are called the five Yogas of great people. Pancha means "five", Maha means "great" and purusha means "man". The Mahapurusha Yoga is a planet (excluding the Sun and Moon) in it's own sign or exalted in a kendra (angle). When a planet is a Mahapurusha Yoga will indicate an extremely strong planet barring it's stamp of representations of that planetary energy, it will be accentuated in the individual's life. Mercury- Bhadra Yoga Intelligent, good communicator, witty, sharp Venus- Malavya Yoga Beauty, charming, graceful, artistic Mars- Ruchaka Yoga Aggressive, forceful, warrior, athletic Jupiter- Hamsa Yoga Philosophical, teacher, spiritual,
egotistical Saturn - Shasha Yoga Leader, organizer, authoritative, disciplined Papa Kartari Yoga Kartari means "scissors", and papa means "sin". This is also called "hemmed in". It is when malefic planets surround a house and the planets within that house. There must be a malefic in both the house before, and after (surrounding) the house hemmed in. The malefic planets are Saturn, Mars, Rahu, and Ketu and Sun. Example: Saturn in the 12th house and Mars in the 2nd house, the 1st house is hemmed in by malefics, constituting papa katari yoga for the 1st house. Interpretation: The 1st house would be robbed of protection. The matters the 1st house rules would be harmed. The 1st house rules physical health, and the body. Here the body is harmed. Shubha Kartari Yoga Shubha means auspicious. Here the benefic planets surround a house. The benefic planets are Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury. The benefic planets give protection and grace to the house they surround. Example: Venus in the 1st house and Jupiter in the 3rd house, the 2nd house is hemmed in by benefics. Interpretation: The 2nd house and the matters it rules will be blessed with empowerment. The 2nd house rules money matters, and childhood, therefore these matters prove prosperous, and good for the individual.
Moon's Special Yogas (Chandra) The Moon as well as most planets does not like to be alone. The Moon thrives on support from other planets. The Moon rules the mind and the emotional body. The joy of life comes from the sharing of experiences and ideas. This is how the Moon works. It needs to share, and feel supported. If it is not connected to any planets it will feel alienated, and disconnected with the world. The mind will be disturbed. These Yogas are always counted from the Moon, not the Ascendant. Making the Moon the 1st house. Sunapha Yoga Any planet excluding the Sun, Rahu and Ketu in the house second from the Moon creates Sunapha Yoga. This indicates acquisition, and the planet itself will describe the manner in which things will be acquired. For example, Mars in the 2nd house from the Moon, is Sunapha Yoga indicating an aggressive manner in acquiring money, or possessions. This Yoga is about receiving. Anapha Yoga Any planet excluding the Sun, Rahu or Ketu in the house 12th from the Moon creates Anapha Yoga. This yoga deals with giving. The 12th house is about giving, and expenditures. This is about generosity. For example, Jupiter 12th house from the Moon is someone who is very generous. It is noted that the planets Sun, Rahu and Ketu do not constitute either a Sunapha or Anapha Yoga. As a matter of fact, if they are with other planets 2nd or 12th from the
Moon they will drastically weaken or cancel these yogas. This is because when the Sun is close to the Moon, the Moon is weak or dark. There is little awareness or consciousness. The Moon emits little light. Some believe the Moon becomes malefic when dark. The full Moon is considered very auspicious because it reflects more light indicating more awareness. The nodes of the Moon (Rahu and Ketu) when situated close to the Moon will definitely change the Moon's effects. The receptive qualities of the Moon are disrupted. Rahu will indicate addictive, obsessive destructive qualities. Ketu will indicate internalized emotions controlled by our past lives, current external factors are less influential. Rahu and Ketu will distort the qualities of the planets they conjoin. Durudhara This when you have both the Sunapha, and the Anapha Yogas. Planets on both sides surround the Moon. This totally supports the Moon, this person is happy and feels supported in life. They will receive as well as give back to the world. Adhi Yoga Adhi means "first", indicating these individuals will be pioneers or the first to do something. This is when the 3 benefics Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury are in houses 6th, 7th or 8th from the Moon. These planets can be in any combination in these houses. These planets are in the opposing houses or opposition from the Moon. Examples: Jupiter in the 6th house from the Moon, and Venus and Mercury in the 8th from the Moon, or all the 3 are in one of
these houses, or Venus in the 8th, Mercury in the 7th and Jupiter in the 6th houses from the Moon. Some believe each benefic must be alone in each of these houses (6,7,8). I think they can be in any combination in three of these houses because the Moon is still shining its reflective energy on these planets across the horizon. Likewise the benefics are mutually opposing and influencing the Moon. Interpretation: It is good for leadership, authority and financial prosperity. They are pioneers who are first to do something. There is strong interest and attraction in marriage and relationships since the 7th and 8th houses are involved here. Vasumati Yoga Vasumati means "rich", indicating the acquisition of wealth, from the fruits of their labor. It represents the drive to improve life's circumstances. This is when the 3 benefics occupy the upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) from the Moon. Again it can be any combination. Example: Venus is in the 11th from the Moon, Jupiter is 6th from the Moon, and Mercury is 3rd from the Moon is Vasumati Yoga. Interpretation: This yoga gives wealth, and life becomes very prosperous improving with age. Any benefics in upachaya houses will produce the effect of wealth, only in varying degrees. Two benefics will be good and one will be moderately good. Some look at the benefics in upachaya houses from the Ascendant as well as the Moon. From the Moon it is
definitely more powerful since the Moon represents growth. Shakata Yoga This is when Jupiter is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house from the Moon. Shakata means "cart", or wheel. The fortunes of this person will rise and fall. It means fluctuating fortunes. If there is either the Adhi or Vasumati Yogas, then the Shakata Yoga is cancelled. Geja Kesari Yoga This means the Elephant-Lion Yoga. These are animals with great presence, and rule the jungle, and so it is with those with this Yoga. Geja Kesari Yoga is when Jupiter is in a kendra (1, 4, 7, 10) from the Moon. This Yoga gives wealth, intelligence, and virtues. Chandra Mangala Yoga Chandra Mangala Yoga is when Mars is conjunct, or opposed the Moon. This gives great financial prosperity, and great business sense. In a man's chart it can bring gain through women. Amala Yoga Amala means "stainless". A benefic in the 10th house from the Moon or the ascendant is Amala Yoga. It means that the person is virtuous and pious actions in worldly affairs. The 10th placement of planets from each other is a powerful placement that confers success.
Kemadruma Yoga This Yoga exits when the Moon has no connection to any planets excluding the Sun, Rahu and Ketu. This means it has none of the previous Yogas or any other aspects or associations. Here is a person who feels isolated, alienated, with no support. This is a person with a dark mind, lacking intelligence, feeling completely disconnected. It is extremely rare. Sun's Yogas (Surya) These yogas are similar to the Moon's Sunapha and Anapha yogas in that they involve planets being placed in houses either before (2nd) or after (12th) the Sun. These planets are considered morning stars (rising before the Sun, 12th) or evening stars (rising after the Sun, 2nd). This empowers these planets for greater success. The indications for these planets will strongly influence the person's character and personality. They influence the will and power of a person. Any other yogas these planets participate in is strengthened. They do not directly influence the dashas instead only the general power and personality throughout life. If the planets are in combustion (too close) with the Sun these Yogas will not be valid. Vosi Yoga A planet, not including Moon, Rahu or Ketu in the 12th house from the Sun creates Vosi Yoga. This planet becomes the morning star indicating the nature of this planet will give the initial impression an individual will make. Since this planet rises before the Sun the person initiates experiences according to what the planetary
energy represents. For example Venus is in the 12th house from the Sun (morning star) the person will be more spontaneous and initiate relationships by giving off a charming beautiful appearance. Vesi Yoga A planet not including Moon, Rahu and Ketu in the second house from the Sun creates Vesi Yoga. Because this planet is an evening star the effects or traits of this planet are not as noticeable. They will more reserved and conservative concerning the matters the planet rules. In this case Venus 2nd from the Sun (evening star) this person would be more careful and deliberate in matters concerning love. Additionally planets 2nd from the Sun seem to be attributes we possess but need to learn how to use. Ubhayachari Yoga Planets excluding the Moon, Rahu and Ketu surrounding the Sun in the 2nd and 12th house from the Sun form Ubhayachari Yoga, or having both Vosi and Vesi Yogas. This yoga simply empowers these planets that surround the Sun. It is like the king is supported. This yoga gives prominence, power and wealth. When the planets that surround the Sun are benefics it is far more beneficial whereas malefics give effects in a more stressful manner. Budhaditya Yoga When the Sun and Mercury are in the same sign is Budhaditya Yoga. This is a very common yoga since Mercury can never be more than on sign away from the
Sun. The sign and house the yoga occurs in will be important and will indicate skills in these areas. If Mercury is combust the Sun it will be a bit harder to realize these skills or talents. But if Mercury and the Sun are less than a half of degree of each other it will give a brilliant genius mind. This is actually an Arabian astronomical term called "Cazimi". Some may think any planet this close to the Sun to be terribly ruined by combustion, but I have found it will make the planet brilliant in effects and areas the planet rules. This applies to any planet not only Mercury. Amara Yoga Amara means "imperishable". This yoga is formed when all the malefics excluding Rahu and Ketu are in the kendras. This is the real estate yoga, giving wealth through ownership of land and real estate (fixed assets). Both Mars and Saturn are indicators of real estate, property and land. The benefics in the angles will denote wealth in moveable assets, like money or possessions. Lakshmi Yoga There are many yogas named after the Gods and Goddesses named for manifesting that which the they represent. Lakshmi is the goddess of fortune bestowing opulent wealth and material riches. Therefore this yoga is known to confer wealth, riches and prosperity in life. The requirements for Lakshmi yoga basically needs the 9th and 1st house ruler strong but when Venus is in it's own sign of rulership or exalted it really accentuates this
yoga. Venus rules extreme wealth and fixed assets. There are different versions for this yoga, one with Venus and one without Venus included. I believe Venus is crucial to the extremes this yoga creates. Lakshmi yoga is when the ruler of the 9th is exalted or in it's sign of rulership in a triconal or kendra house and the ruler of the 1st is house strong, but additionally if Venus is in it's own sign or exalted. Saraswati Yoga Saraswati is the goddess of learning. This yoga denotes intelligence, and talents with music, speaking and writing. The requirements for this yoga are the three benefics (Mercury, Venus and Jupiter) in kendras, triconals or the 2nd house and all three are strong. Vipareeta Raja Yoga Viparita means 'inverted, contrary, reversed'. Vipareeta Raja Yoga is formed when the planet ruling a dusthana (6,8,12) house is placed in another dusthana house. This yoga tends to cause an unexpected rise in life due to an unfortunate event or problem. Kala Sarpa Yoga Kala means "time" and Sarpa means "serpent", alluding to a fated destiny. This yoga is formed when all the planets (excluding the outer planets) are on one side of Rahu and Ketu. Many astrologers contend that this yoga gives a fated life of misery. It will denote a life that seems fated by events, but this is not necessarily bad. Kala Sarpa Yoga will intensify all the other yogas in a chart, good or bad giving the life a sense of destiny.
Neecha Bhanga A debilitated planet is in its most weakened state, these are merely ways the planet is strengthened therefore lessening the effects of the debilitated planet. A weak planet will cause problems pertaining to indications for that planet, also the dasha cycles of that planet can produce problems. Neecha means debilitated and bhanga means reversal. Here are the main ways in which debility can be modified, or cancelled. This may not be considered a yoga per say, but it is very important to consider in chart interpretation. If the ruler of the sign occupied by the debilitated planet is in a kendra position from the Moon or the Lagna. If the ruler of the sign where the debilitated planet is exalted is in a kendra position from the Moon or Lagna. If the ruler of the sign occupied by the debilitated planet aspects the planet. If the planet who would be exalted in the sign occupied by the debilitated planet is in a kendra from the Moon or the Lagna. If the debilitated planet is exalted in the Navamsha. The dispositor of the debilitated planet gives greater relief to the debilitated planet when the dispositor is well placed. Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga Raja yoga is only when the debilitated planet occupies a kendra, otherwise it's debility is merely removed. Planets

SUN (Surya) The Sun is the life force of our planet. It is the soul and spirit of a chart. It can be an overpowering influence in a chart. If it is too close other planets it can burn up the planets capability to function properl This condition is called combustion of the Sun. The Sun works best in the tenth house. It will give a sense of power and career opportunity placed here. In other houses it can be a bit to much causing problems, as in the seventh house it can give a dominating partner and cause marital discord. In the fifth house it ca limit children, although a male child is dominate. It can burn the head in the first house causing baldness. The Sun in the third can give courage but trouble with siblings. The Sun in the sixth house will give the capacity to win over any adversaries. Mythology: Surya was married to Sanja sometimes referred to as Twashtri the daughter of the celestial architect Vishwakarma. His radiance was too much for her to bear, so she had her father cut his radiance down. Sanja could finally see others so she went to visit he parents and placed her shadow Chhaya in her place to look after he husband. The Sun became infatuated with Chhaya. This upset Sanja so she fled disguised in a form of a mare. Upon realizing his mistake the Sun turned himself into a horse and followed Sanja and when the reunited produced the Ashwins the two celestial doctors. This myth can refer to the martial discord the Sun in the seventh house can cause. The Moon is the reflective influence. The Sun sends out its radiance and the Moon reflects it back. It is receptive, therefore represents the reflective mind giving consciousness. The Moon represents the nurturing, protecting influence that a mother provides. It is the Yin or female influence while the Sun is the Yang or the male influence. In chart the Moon likes the support of other planets. The Moon does better when surrounded by other planets. The exception to this is the Sun, and Saturn. If the Moon is too close to the Sun we have a dark Moon and the perception can be darkened. If the Moon is close to Saturn there is depression. Also when Mercury is too close to the Moon the mind can be overly active. The Moon with Jupiter brings happiness and spiritual knowledge. Jupiter/ Moon contacts are the best (Gajakeshari Yoga). The Moon and the Sun are troubled when near the Nodes of the Moon; Rahu/Ketu. The lunar nodes cause eclipses. This shadow cast on them brings out fears and obsessions Rahu with the Moon can cause obsessive, addictive behavior. Ketu with the Moon can cause fear, or an odd mother. Ketu with the Sun gives insecurities. Mythology: The myth of the Moon explains the waxing and waning cycle of the Moon. Daksha Prajapati the progenitor gave twenty-seve of his sixty daughters to the Moon-Soma. These twenty-seven daughters became the twenty-seven nakshatras the Moon visits eve night. Soma began to favor and spend more time with one of the daughters Rohini. The other daughters became jealous and told Daksha.
