Tie & Ground Isolators
Tie Isolator
Are mechanical devices which in the open position provide an isolating distance. They are used primarily for isolation and sectionalizing electric circuits such as buses lateral circuits or portions of main circuits, and for special purposes such as testing and maintenance.
The DS can be operated both locally and from remote. The normal mode is to operate from remote. Local Mode – operation is initiated at DS control box. Remote Mode – operation is initiated at the control panel.
Note:
Any change in status (Open / Close) will be indicated at the DS drive at the control panel, SER and CSS SCADA

Disconnect Switch (DS) Operation of Disconnect Switch DS Local Operation at its Operating Mechanism Note: •Make sure that interlocking conditions ( refer to specific switchyard interlocking ) are satisfied and that the associated power circuit breaker (PCB) and earthing switch (ES) are open.
Procedure: 1. Set the selector switch to “local” mode at the associated bay marshalling kiosk. 2. Set the L-O-R selector switch to “local” mode at its operating mechanism. 3. Pushing the red button, the DS will close. (if initial position is open) 4. Pushing the green button, the DS will open. (if initial position of the DS is close) Important: •This operation is mainly applicable during maintenance.
Disconnect Switch (DS) DS Emergency Manual Operation (Defective drive motor or no 125 VDC supply) Note: •Make sure that the associated PCB and ES are open.
Procedure: 1. Set the selector switch to “maintenance/off” mode at the associated bay marshalling kiosk. 2. Set the L-O-R selector switch to “off” mode at its operating mechanism. 3. To open, insert the hand crank into the auxiliary pin, then rotate counter-clockwise until its contact arm is fully opened. 4. To close, insert the hand crank into the auxiliary pin, then rotate clockwise until its contact arm is fully closed. Important: • •
The L-O-R selector switch does not affect the local manual operation using the hand crank. When the blocking magnet (Y1) is de-energized, the emergency hand crank cannot be
Remote operation at the Control Panel Note: • Interlocking conditions for DS operation (refer specific switchyard interlocking ) must be satisfied. • Check the corresponding bay annunciator at the control panel for any alarm indications.
Procedure: 1. Make sure that L-O-R selector switch at DS operating mechanism is set to “remote”. 2. Make sure that keyed selector switch at associated bay marshalling kiosk is set to “remote”. 3. Set the keyed selector switch at the control panel to local mode. 4. When closing, (initial position of DS is open and discrepancy switch at horizontal position) 4.1 Turn the discrepancy switch to vertical position. (a flashing light will be observed) which means that the DS is in the wrong position. 4.2 Depress the discrepancy switch, then turn clockwise holding it for about 2 to 3 seconds and then release. (the discrepancy switch will return to vertical position and the flashing light will be in the off state. 4.3 Note the status of DS is now close (check at the S/Y to confirm) 5. To open the DS (initial position of DS is close and discrepancy switch at vertical position) 5.1 Turn the discrepancy switch to horizontal position. (a flashing light will be observed) which means that the DS is in the wrong position. 5.2 Depress the discrepancy switch, then turn counter-clockwise holding it for about 2 to 3 seconds and then release. (the discrepancy switch will return to vertical position and the flashing light will be in the off state. 5.3 Note the status of DS is now open (check at the S/Y to confirm) Important: • Any change in the status will be indicated at the control panel, SER and SCADA monitor.
Earthing Switch (ES) Are mechanical devices integral to the disconnect switches especially on the line bays to provide live earthing during maintenance works. This can be operated manually at the switchyard and interlocked with the disconnect switch for safety purposes.
The Earthing Switch is manually operated devices for use during maintenance. The manual drive of the ES is equipped with auxiliary contacts for external interlocking and remote position indication as well as electro-mechanical interlock of the crank handle. Any change in status (Open / Close) will be indicated at the ES drive, at the control panel and at the CSS SCADA

Earthing Switch (ES) Closing Operation of the Earthing Switch Note: The Earthing Switch will not close if: • • • • • • •
Disconnect switch is closed. Disconnect switch is not fully opened. The marshalling kiosk selector switch is in “remote” mode. The blocking magnet is de-energized. The padlock at manual operating lever is locked. The 230 kV source is present. The molded circuit breaker (MCB) is unhealthy.
Procedure: 1. Disconnect switch associated with the earthing switch should be fully opened. 2. Set the associated marshalling kiosk selector switch to “local” mode. 3. Check and make sure that the blocking at the ES control box is energized. 4. Remove the padlock of the manual operating lever. 5. Lift and push the lever until the tubular contact arm will swing upward and t he contact fingers will come to rest against the top of the earth contact. 6. Make sure that the earthing switch is fully closed and its position is reflected at the control panel, SER and SCADA monitor.
Earthing Switch (ES) Opening Operation of the Earthing Switch Note: • •
The manual control lever is locked. The marshalling kiosk selector switch is at “remote” mode.
Procedure: 1. Set the associated marshalling kiosk selector switch to “local” mode. 2. Remove the padlock of the manual operating lever. 3. Lift and push the lever until the tubular contact arm will swings downward. 4. Make sure that the earthing switch is fully opened and its position is reflected at the control panel, SER and SCADA monitor. 5. Lock the lever for safety purposes. 6. Set the selector switch at the marshalling kiosk back to “remote” mode so that the blocking magnet at the ES control box will be de-energized to prevent operation from its mechanism.
