2. Broad typology of Thesis This is a study and design based thesis. This theme of the thesis enlightens adaptive reuse of a heritage building through restoration and required design approach.
3. Philosophy of design and Theoretical background This is a world class venues for conventions, shows and celebrations. Designed to international standards with state of the art acoustics, lighting, connectivity and ergonomic seating. It contains multiple halls that can be used for different purposes. These venues have won awards for their design and architecture and have well thought-out layouts in aesthetically pleasing settings. Resorts, shopping centres and business buildings may also be accommodated with convention centres if it is in international scale. Nowadays, meetings and exhibitions are not only the trend of publicity but also it is proved beneficial for society and economy. These centres encourages tourism industries, business sectors, artists, handicraft departments etc. The idea of international convention centre has been derived from the present scenario of rapid growth of innovation, technology, art and cultures.
4. Aim The aim of the thesis is to design unique spaces to make people visit from different cities and countries to attend conference and exhibitions. To create a landmark through unique architectural design.
5. Justification of the Topic Nowadays the rapid development of megacities and metro cities are the cause of the growth of population, industries and business sectors. There is a need to expose the activities and creativities in front of people across the globe to promote new trends and cultures. As a result a space is required to gather people where this kind of events can be taken place. This is the concept of a convention centre where people can gather to share and earn various experiences. These centres emphasizes both public and private events. Encourages tourism developments, business developments, cultural activities, social gathering and amusements.
6. Objectives
To create a place for social and cultural gathering. To create a venue for exhibition and interaction. To create interactive spaces and landscaping to generate public interest. 1
To create a landmark through contemporary architectural features. To explore how it proves beneficial for urban growth.
7. Scope of Work To evolve a design with forms and spaces with distinct architectural characteristics focusing on space utilization and functions. This project deals with the design which is well adoptable in terms of typology, function and climatic conditions. The project will be design oriented and detailing of structural elements and services detailing are come under the limitations.

9. Proposed Site and Justification of Site selection The site is at New Town (Rajarhat), Kolkata. It is a fast growing satellite city of residential and cultural hub by KMDA which is much bigger than its neighbourhood Salt Lake. The 100 acres site is also a live proposal for India’s largest convention centre by RJMC. The site is only 12km from Kolkata International airport and metro rail way facilities are available with a proximity. According to the new proposal of extension of metro line will connect the site to the core city area. Existing IT sectors, Nicco Park, Science City, Aquatica all are in between 5-10 km radius of the site.

11. Conclusion Numerous creations, cultural activities and development, social interaction remain unfulfilled if the trend of exhibitions and convention are not organized. Such programmes need sufficient space to display and gathering purpose. So the requirement of a centre for convention is necessary.
