1. Preparing the computer to install ANSYS 16.1 Before starting the installation, check that you have everything necessary to perform the installation, which is indicated in the following sections:
1.1.Data to be sent to the course secretariat to obtain the software license. At this point
[email protected] have already all data needed of each student’s computer. No more information needs to be sent.
1.2.Configuring the computer to find the ANSYS licensing server. Now you must be connected to the internet and configure the hosts file of your computer as shown below: To configuration must be done to correctly find the licensing server in the cloud. Go to the following folder in your computer: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\ Once you are inside the folder, locate the file called “hosts” (without extensions).
Right click on the file to get the menu below:
Click “Open”. Since there is no program associated with his kind of file, the operating system will ask which program you want to open it with.
Page 3/17
Select Notepad or a similar program. NOTE: Do not open it with Word or similar programs as it may introduce foreign code and not work properly. Click accept and the content of the text file will open:
It will be similar to the text shown above. The important thing is to find the last line of the file, in this case 127.0.0.1
localhost
Then add the following information: 80.38.106.108 lui-025 After entering the number, press the tab key and continue with the text, save it and then close the window. If the file says you do not have sufficient authorization to save it, check that you are an administrator of the computer and disable the UAC (User Account Control) of the operating system. Page 4/17
To verify that the file hosts has been configured correctly, open the command console: In the Windows “Start” menu -> execute -> write “cmd” and accept. This will open a command window, type ping lui-025 and press enter.
If similar information to that shown in the image above appears (it may vary depending on the response IP address), it means you have connected with LUI-025 (licensing server) at the IP address [80.38.106.108] and everything is ready to continue. 1.2.1. Download the ANSYS software.
You are now ready to download ANSYS from the storage server of the Master’s. 64 bit Windows operating systems -
ANSYS 16.1
1.2.2. Download the CivilFEM software. You are now ready to download CivilFEM for ANSYS from the storage server of the Master’s. 64 bit Windows operating systems -
CivilFEM 16.1
2. Installing of CivilFEM for ANSYS 16.1 CHECK: To continue, you must be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
Have you sent the *.HID file with the computer data to the course secretary? o This step is described in part 1.1.1 of this document.
Have more than two days passed since you sent the file? o You may continue with the installation even if less than two days have passed, but you may not yet be registered in the license server in which case it will not work. Have you downloaded the software necessary for the installation and copied it to a DVD or mount the file in a virtual unit?
If you have answered “no” to one or more of these questions, you may need to review the steps in section 1. Page 5/17
2.1.Installing ANSYS. Please follow instructions described in INSTALLATION.GUIDE.ANSYS.16.1.pdf document (Chapter 2.1).
2.2.Installing CivilFEM. Once ANSYS is succesfully installed in your computer then CivilFEM can be installed. If you downloaded the installation files or if you are installing from a DVD or USB with autorun disabled, navigate to the location of the setup.exe file (inside folder CF161x64). Right-click the setup.exe file and select Run as administrator.
Click “Next>”.
Read and accept the license and click “Yes”.
Select “CivilFEM with evaluation license” and click “Next>”.
Page 6/17
Select your language preference and click “Next>”.
Click “Next>”.
Select what you want to install and click “Next>”.
Page 7/17
The program now tells you that it has detected ANSYS installed at this path. Only change it if is not correct and click “Next>”.
Leave the default option selected as you already have *.ATH license file sent by the course secretary. Click “Next>”.
Select the location of the license file and click “Open”.
Click “Next>” and the installation of the files will begin.
Page 8/17
When this process finishes, the screen below will appear.
Installing any updates that are on the internet is highly recommended, so leave this option checked and click “Finish”. If there are updates available they will begin to install.
Follow the default instructions in the windows. After this point you can launch CivilFEM to check that everything is correctly installed. On launching it, CivilFEM menu should appear in Main Menu, as in the image below:
Page 9/17
2.3.Note for computers with Windows 7 or 8 These operating systems may experience functionality problems. If this is the case, you must create a user environment variable. This is described in the CivilFEM closes unexpectedly section.
3. Problem solving. ANSYS. The first step is to check that your computer has accessed the ANSYS license server correctly (section 3.1). If this does not work, first check if your computer can detect the ANSYS license server (section 3.2). Second, check whether ANSYS client licensing (your computer) has validated the license correctly (section 3.3).
3.1.How to check that the ANSYS client licensing is working correctly. Open the application from Start menu -> All Programs -> ANSYS 16.1 -> ANSYS Client Licensing -> Client ANSLIC ADMIN Utility…
Page 10/17
Here you will find the licensing client information. The name of your computer will appear where it says INGE-085. Click “View Status / Diagnostic Options >>>”.
Then click on “Display the License Status” to see if everything is correct.
Using the information that appears in the window, check that: -
“License server status: 1055@LUI-025” is correct, and that the number before the @ is the connection port. “LUI-025: License server UP (MASTER) v11.11” is operative. The number of total licenses issued appears at the bottom of the window. This is very important.
If, on the contrary, something similar to the window below appears:
Page 11/17
It means that your computer is not receiving the license from the server, which indicates a connection error. You must therefore check the configuration of the licensing client (see section 3.4) or check that your computer knows how to find the licensing server online (section 1.2). If everything is as described in this document, contact the IT department of the Master’s (Fernando Bermúdez –
[email protected]), attaching a screen shot of the error.
3.2.The licensing server does not deliver a feature list or responds that it cannot find it. In the Windows menu -> start -> run -> write “cmd” and press enter. In the window with the black background, write “ping lui-025” and press enter.
If the ping command does not appear to be responding or it does not point to the IP 80.38.106.108, check the steps described in section 1.2. If everything seems to be correct, think about what type of network you are using to connect to the internet: If the network is public (library, university, restaurant, airport etc.), it is possible that it is configured to block all communications through ports that do not belong to web navigation. You must contact the administrator of this network. If this occurs on a network from which you have launched the Master’s ANSYS license before, contact Fernando Bermúdez (
[email protected]) so he can check if there is a problem with the licensing server.
3.3.When launching ANSYS, error -39 appears. If everything seems correct after checking section 3.2, but the following screen appears when launching ANSYS: Page 12/17
It means that the data of your computer have still not been activated on the licensing server. This can happen for a number of reasons:
You have not sent the data to the course secretary as described in section 1.1. o Prepare the file and send it to the course secretary as indicated in section 1.1.1. You have sent the data but two working days have not passed yet o You don’t need to do anything, once your data are on the server it will function without problems. If you have sent the data as instructed in section 1.1.1, and more than two working days have passed o Contact Fernando Bermúdez by email (
[email protected]), attaching the *.hid file and specifying your full name and a description of the error (if possible, a screen shot is helpful too).
3.4.Configuring the ANSYS client licensing. Begin the ANSYS licensing manager. Start menu -> utilities -> ANSLIC ADMIN Utility.
Click “Specify the License Server Machine”. The window below will appear.
Page 13/17
This is the correct configuration for the license server. By using the “Add”, “Edit”, and “Delete” buttons you need to arrive at this configuration.
4. Problem solving. CivilFEM 4.1.Configuration of the CivilFEM licensing client Launch the Administration Utility to check if everything is correct.
Page 14/17
The window below will open.
Clicking “Change License File” allows you select the license file. It must be configured as shown in the window, in “Local” mode and not “Client” mode.
4.2.CivilFEM closes unexpectedly. If CivilFEM closes suddenly and unexpectedly, it may be due to incompatibility between ANSYS and Windows 7 or 8. You must create a user environment variable: KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK = TRUE To do so, open the Start menu and right click on: Computer > Properties > Advanced System Configuration (on the left hand side) > (Advanced Options Tab) Environment Variables Button > New User Variable.
