EL RENACIMIENTO EN FLANDES Y LOS PAISES BAJOS El movimiento renacentista se inicia en Flandes en Ips últimos años de la Edad Media. La escuela flamenca llega a su apogeo en el siglo XV|n con tres grandes pintores: Rubens, Van Dyck y Rembrandt. Pedro Pablo Rubens (1577-1640). Nació en Siegen (Alemania), de padres em¡ grados de Amberes. Se trasladó a Italia, donde estudió arte pictórico y luego sñ radicó en Flandes; allí adquirió renombre universal. Entre sus numerosos cuadros figuran temas religiosos, históricos, mitológico« y retratos. La más famosa de sus pinturas religiosas se titula El descendimiento de ia cruz y el tema histórico más notable, La coronación de Maña de Médicis. Entre sus retratos figuran el de Isabel Brandt (su primera esposa) y el de Isabel de Francia. La obra de tema mitológico más famosa se llama El rapto de las hijas de Leucipo.
luán Van Dyck: La Virgen del rancillei Rolin. (Museo del Louvre. París.) El artista flamenco fue pintor pintor en la cort e de Feli pe , duque de Borgoñ a, cu e Bueno l yo canc iller Nicolás Rolin donó el cuadro a la catedra l de Autun, ¿onde se exhibió hasta el año 1800. La devota escena tiene por marco graciosas columnas de inspiración clásica, y hacia el fondo, la vista de una ciudad, que bien puede ser la de Autun.
Rubens se destacó por su gran realismo y belleza de colorido. Maestro fecun do (pintó más de dos mil cuadros), sus obras figuran en la mayoría de las salas de arte de Europa. An ton io Van Dy ck (1599-1641). Nació en Amberes, estudió con Rubens y pasó a Italia; finalmente se radicó en Inglaterra. Este refinado artista gustaba aplicar a sus cuadros detalles de adorno, elegan cia y belleza, de tal manera, en ciertos temas bíblicos, los pastores y gente del pueblo aparecen vestidos como importantes señores. Fue nombrado primer pintor de su Majestad Británica y en 1632 lo hicieron caballero, con lo cual llegó al apogeo de su fama y riqueza. Pintó numerosos retratos de personajes importantes y damas de la Corte; el más famoso entre ellos es el del monarca Carlos I Estuardo. Pablo Rembrandt (1607-1669). Este gran pintor holandés nació en Leyden, pero se radicó en Amsterdam. Su pincel inmortalizó — con igual mae stría— toda clase de temas y fue tan tan perfecta su distribu ción del claroscu ro que un crítico afirmó : “ Parece que contó contó con la luz”. Debido a su arte obtuvo grandes ganancias pero, mal administrador, llegó a la vejez en la mayor pobreza. Entre sus obras más notables podemos citar los grupos La lección de anatomía, La ronda nocturna y Los síndicos de los pañeros y entre los cuadros religiosos: Los peregrinos de Emaús.
Ped ro Pablo Rub ens : La Ker mes e. En este cuadro, de perfecta técnica, ale gre color ido y f ina espo n taneidad, el artista llevó al lienzo una fiesta entre aldeanos, donde todo es dinamismo, a juzgar por el movimie nto de las nu merosas figuras.
Rembr andt : Filós ofo meditando. Entre los nume ro sos cuadros costumbristas de este gran pintor holan dés, merece destacarse el que ilustra el grabado. Los contrastes luminosos crean un acento sublime en esta obra, en la que no interesa ia acción, sino los efectos psic ológi cos del relato.
