This work owes a lot to the followin people4 &at and /hris 5alewski6 whose book The !aical Tarot of the "olden #awn 7 raided for the tarot and i/hin attributions8 #tephen #kinner whose e9cellent book Terrestrial Astroloy, #ivination by "eomancy was also used. 7t oes without sayin that 7 used /hic and Tabatha /icero:s $elf Initiation to the "olden #awn as the startin point for this book.

Intro!uction
hat follows are instructions on 'eomancy within the =ermetic "rder of the 'olden *awn structure. This book was written because6 face it6 'eomancy is considered a chore by most students. "n one hand it seems complicated and on the other it is so deterministic that it makes it unattractive to anyone who likes to think about their divination. The 'olden *awn system of 'eomancy was based on Arippa:s fourth book6 althouh it included a lot of very simple additional material which was not familiar to the medieval users of 'eomancy. #ome of this was ood6 such as the astroloical system of placin the siils in the houses6 other sides of it were bad6 such as the meanins of the planets in the houses. hile holdin to most of the '* tradition6 this book simplifies the system and attempts to modernise it usin more recent interpretations of the planetary aspects. 7t also plays down a lot of the doom t hat is associated with some of the siils. >nlike the medieval system which ave birth to 'eomancy6 we no loner see #aturn and #corpio as the reat malefics and reard them as teachers or even positive forces. This little book is mostly my notes. 7t was desined to brin toether a lot of different teachins under one banner to make it easier for &aola to study. 7t is not complete6 particularly when it comes to the method of interpretation which requires skill and readin on astroloical interpretation. =owever it does ive an idea which should improve most people:s 'eomancy readins. Another thin that people should be aware of is that 'eomancy readins et faster and more accurate with practice. &erformin a readin a day on a different sub?ect for a month will be enouh. hile it is still not as quick as a tarot divination6 it is a lot more accurate and provides a reat deal of detail.

eomantic symbols are the planetary forces as they are e9pressed on the (arth plane. 7maine that a planet radiates enery at the earth. =umans pick up this enery throuh their sphere of sensation or aura. =owever6 the same enery finds e9pression in the rest of the earth. 7t reflects back off the very rocks and finds a %alkuthian form. This enery is binary and is born from a particular polarity. 7t runs like strins of prorammin code to create a particular effect on the surroundins. The ancients decided that these enery strins could be shown in lines of four. &ositive chare would be shown by two dots6 or a line6 while neative should be shown as a sinle dot. (ach planet :s enery was seen as e9pressin itself on earth in two ways. #o each was covered by at least two eomantic symbols. y tunin into these symbols6 we have access to this enery. e can use them for maic or fortune tellin. 7n the case of the latter we are able to see what the planetary enery has planned for us. 7n the case of maic we can use the symbols of these binary forces to create a material universe based around these planetary forms.

The left and riht witness and the Cude are crucial to ettin the short answer to the question. The 0iht itness tells you about the querent and how they are relatin to the situation. The Deft itness e9plains the situation. The Cude reveals the final outcome or ives advice. All the rest of the readin is coloured by these three he9arams. #ometimes for simple  or  questions they can provide you with the only answer you need.

Thus6 lookin at what these he9arams mean6 we can see that the 0iht itness is /auda *raconis6 the Deft itness is Amissio and the Cude is 0ubeus. /auda is enerally a bad fiure6 Amissio is a bad fiure and 0ubeus is outriht horrible. 7n a simple  or  question we would say that the answer is .
Page 21
Notes on Geomancy by Nick Farrell
=owever6 if we are to develop the question6 we could say the followin. The querent is dealin with somethin neative which has been enerated from the bad habits of the past. 7t could even be the bad habits of their family or previous lives )if you believe in such stuff- )/auda- and these are forcin a death of some sort. The situation normally indicates that he is about to lose somethin important or somethin is oin to be taken away as a result of this. The Cude says that he will feel anry and headed towards some form of death or transformation. This is possibly a learnin e9perience. Notice that Notice that Amisso chanes if the question is about love or a relationship. Amisso is Henus and usually means that a barrier to union is bein removed or a relationship that the querent does not want is endin. This would make the he9 positive and would chane the meanin of the readin. ith /auda as the riht witness6 you could say that the querent is tryin to end a relationship and this situation is proressin. This will be successful but will involve many aruments before it is over. 7f the question was about money6 you would say that /auda indicates that you have wasted money due to bad habits and now you are about to lose a sinificant asset. The Cude says that you will feel anry about this but there is nothin you can do about it and you will learn from this e9perience.
Rules 1. A ood Cude with two ood itnesses must be read in a positive way and the answer is always yes. 2. A bad Cude with two bad itnesses must be read in a neative way and the answer is always no. 3. A ood Cude with a bad and a ood witness means that ultimately everythin will be ood but there will be delays and problems. The answer is Jyes6 after a whileK $. hen the 0iht itness is ood and the Deft itness is bad6 the result is more doubtful. . hen the Deft itness ood and the 0iht itness bad6 there will be problems initially but thins will et better.

Ru)eus )The 0ed- %ars6 Fire6 #corpio6 Tarot Trump4 *eath 0ubeus had a terrible press when it came to traditional 'eomancy. 7t was considered evil in everythin other than debauchery. =owever6 this was part of the patholoical attitude that medieval people had to se96 nature6 the life force in eneral and the fear of death. 'eomancy was a popular form of divination and so it reflected popular culture. Alchemists6 however6 had a different view of 0ubeus which they called the :0eddenin: and which makes somethin come alive into a fully human mode of e9istence. 7t must have :blood:6 the rubedo or :redness: of life. 0ed is associated with the in in alchemy while white is associated with the ueen6 who united with him to form the :chymical marriae: which is represented in 'eomancy by /on?uctio.
0ubeus is the life force which beats in the heart of everyone. "n one hand it can lead to reat spiritual thins6 on the other it can lead to se9ual violence. 7t is the force of transmutation represented in the 'olden *awn:s DHL formula as Typhon. 7f unbalanced or incorrectly channelled6 it leads to the destruction of everythin. 7n JyesK or JnoK questions6 it is always a JnoK because the force is seen in its neative conte9t. 7t is enerally too e9treme to be ood in questions of business or material situations. 7n such cases it is usually seen as a powerful6 almost violent force of chane. 7t can represent a violent person or someone who crushes all that oppose him. 7n relationships it can represent se9ual violence but it can also represent passion6 obsession and intensity. 7n questions of illness6 if it does not mean someone:s death6 which is incredibly unlikely )and would need other siils to back it up related to #aturn- it usually indicates that the person has a lot of strenth to fiht off any illness. 7n situations where victory over opposition is required6 it indicates that the opposition will be totally crushed. 7n matters of spirituality it indicates that troubles are bein transmuted in the form of a mystical death. 7t represents life itself. 7n the minor Arcana it is represented by the in of /ups6 that is a force which manifests the Tarot /ard *eath into the material world. 7t creates e9tremes in thouhts and represents repressed emotions and they come floodin out. 7t can represent travel and unrest. 7t can also indicate that the ends ?ustify the means. The 'olden *awn attributed the i/hin =e9aram ;16 Jinner truthfulnessK6 to this siil. 7n fact this is because 0ubeus is like a lass when it is tipped over. hat is inside it will flow out and that is not always ood. If Ru)eus appears; As a Ri:ht 9itness4 ou are e9tremely powerful and arroant with it. 7n this situation you have the power to bully and subdue. ou miht be in a situation of transformation and hatin every minute of it. >nlike &opulus6 which is focused on people6 Hia shows the other aspect of the %oon that is depicted in the Tarot card6 the %oon. This is the unconscious ?ourney throuh life. 7t is life as a ?ourney with ups and downs which ultimately lead us upwards. *urin our life we are presented with various illusions built from life patterns and habits. These often need to be overcome by the creation of new habits which are more positive. ad habits often cloud our view of reality until it seems that t he universe is stacked aainst us. 7n fact the force that creates this illusion6 the moon6 is also the key to fi9in it. The way is always forward and is evolutionary6 so if this he9 appears you are bein reminded that6 althouh thins miht seem stacked aainst you6 there is always a way out. =owever that way out usually beins by you seein it and makin chanes yourself. 7t is neutral because a way out can either lead to ood or evil6 dependin on the circumstances. *reams are bein realised and people are nourished. Althouh there miht be still a few problems they will not affect the querent. The i/hin he9aram for Hia is JdecreaseK6 which suests some form of loss. This is the sort of loss we et when we move away from one situation to any other. Any one who has moved house will know that the chane of circumstances will always result in the loss of somethin. >ntil you have arrived at the new destination and have had time to build somethin new6 decrease of the old is all we seem to see. There is a stron emotional side which is manifested so sometimes this he9aram shows psycholoical problems comin out6 or even the process of psychoanalysis or counsellin. 7t can create a person who is a little addicted to work but quite liberal. %aically it is the process of pathworkin. 7n questions reardin relationships it suests that thins are movin or chanin or you are bein iven a way out that will work. 7n questions about business you need to chane your direction and make sure that you retrench until your new plan can be realised. 9hen Via is the; Ri:ht 9itness ou are movin alon with your life and chanes are happenin at an unconscious level. ou miht feel a little lost6 or that your universe is no lon :real: but this is normal with the process of slow chane. ou can help by workin out what you want and how to et it.

Amisso is traditionally seen as material trouble or money oin out of the bank account. 7n =ebrew it was an accountin term. =owever attributions of this siil are of Henus and the traditional meanin for Amisso was Jood for loss of substance and sometimes for love6 but bad for ain.K hile Henus rules love and loveBlife6 she also rules material comfort. "ther meanins of this indicate that it is also the process of charity6 or even buyin somethin. 'ood for happiness but bad for your bank balance. 'enerally this is somethin bein removed from your life with the oal of makin you happy. 7t could be anythin from a bad habit to a destructive relationship. =owever it is a sacrifice which is oin ultimately to be positive in somewhere other than financial ain. 7n fact it miht cost you financially to make this chane. "bviously if the question was Jill 7 win the lotteryK the answer is oin to be absolutely not. ut a question about J7s there a future in my relationshipMK does not mean that the relationship is oin to end. 7t ?ust means that somethin is oin to chane6 or be lost6 to make it better. ut it has to be seen in terms of a motion forward. 7n Tarot this process is seen as the in of *isks6 who is tasked with brinin the aencies of the =eirophant into manifestation. The in of *isks seems an odd choice for Amisso. =e is the ultimate turtle who carries his possessions on his back6 movin slowly from place to place. 7n fact he never ives up anythin. The =eirophant is also the intuitive spiritual force that links us to our =iher #elf. hat has that ot to do with the Henusian controlled loss suested by AmissoM The 7chin reference here is =e9 number 3 Jradual developmentK which works nicely with the imae of the in of *isks but less with the traditional idea of Amisso. hat this appears to be sayin is that the loss is not a neative thin it is desined to teach you what is important but part of a radual process of rowth. A step with the riht le makes leaves the left behind6 but it is still the first motion forward. 7t is only an apparent loss as your life moves forward. hat the inquirer will want to know is if this process will be painful. The messae here is that any chane is controlled by Henus and the =iher #elf. 7t is less likely to hurt as much and ultimately it will be successful. &hysically this siil creates a sick person who abuses their body. =e is disproportionate in the e9tremities of his body. =e miht have a enetic defect or be lame or maimed. &sycholoically Amisso creates a person who is e9tremely materialistic who has what Arippa called a Jwicked lifeK. These days it means someone who sleeps around without any idea of consequences. 7t is a person who lives for what they see. 7n business6 Amisso says that you are not oin to make any ains in the future. This is a period of retrenchment and loss. 7t miht be a period where you buy another company knowin that it will cost you in the short term and miht make money in the future.

7n relationships it is sayin that someone is oin to have to ive up a pattern of behaviour which is destructive to the relationship or find out what love is really all about. The key here is love rather than what you have around you that is material. Dove is often found in the material circumstances in which we live6 but sometimes these thins are a trap which keep us from discoverin real love. The woman who is afraid to divorce her husband because he provides the family with money is a case in point. 7f this is all she has in common with a man who she otherwise dislikes then the chance of love rowin from that relationship is limited. Amisso is callin on us to lose some treasured view that we have had which is preventin love from e9pressin. There is also an element of if thins were bad6 other than finances6 they will et better. 7f thins were ood6 other than finances they miht et worse. If A'isso appears; As a Ri:ht 9itness ou are bein too materialistic or stubborn in your approach to a situation and this has been challened. ou are bein asked to see thins from a spiritual viewpoint and work out what is really important. There miht be somethin which you are slowly losin. 7f this is about relationships then it is somethin ood for you. As a "eft 9itness ou miht have lost somethin which you see as bein important to your material world or personality. ou are bein challened by the universe to let somethin o. 7t will most likely be somethin material or a concrete view. ou will not lose your relationships but somethin you don:t want in that relationship will o. As Ju*:e 7t all comes down to where your heart is. The Cude will rule aainst you if you are tryin to make any material ain. =owever if you are workin towards spiritual or relationship ains the Cude will say yes6 if you are prepared to lose or sacrifice somethin material to et it.
