Ingredients :Gandhak – 500gms Trikatu – 100gms (Pippali – 33gm, Shunthi – 33, Maricha – 33) Tila-taila – 800ml Milk – As required
Method of Preparation :a) Gandhak Shodhan b) Preparation of Varti c)Ignition of Varti a)
Gandh Gan dhak ak Shodh Shodhan an :-
1) Take palika yantra, make it ghrita lipta 2) Take gandhak in it; heat it till the gandhak melts 3) Immediately filter it through the cloth beneath which it is poured into milk in the t he vessel & get solidified immediately immediately
4) Remove the gandhak from the milk wash it with lukewarm water 5) Dry it & weigh it 6) Repeat this procedure for 7 times b)
Preparation of Varti :-
1) Take shodhit gandhaka & triturate it in the Khalvayantra 2) Take trikatu make churna of it 3) Take cotton cloth (vastra) if 25*25cm (L*B) 4) Gandhaka & Trikatu were taken in one vessel & mixed properly 5) The churna gandhaka & trikatu is spread on the cloth equally & varti is made it 6) 16 vartis were made, in each varti 30gms of the mixture was taken & it was tied properly 7) Over night immersion of varti in tila-taila c)
Ignition of Varti :-
1) On the next day, varti was ignited by holding its two ends with the help of Sadamsha yantra, so that, its middle portion come down to form its U-shaped structure. 2) Ignition was started from the bottom of the U 3) Druti was collected in the vessel kept below
Observation :-

Gandhak before shodhan- Yellow Yellow crystalline form,

Gandhak after shodhan- Yellowish Yellowish amorphous,

Colour of mixture :-
Gandhak + Trikatu = Greyish yellow
d) Varti before ignition :-
Wet with tila-taila it snigdha; when pressed taila was oozing out through it
e) Varti during ignition :-
When varti was ignited; saffocating gas was released from it & taila of black colour was dripping drop by drop
f) Varti after ignition :-
Become brittle, dark black colour; light in weight & was not igniting easily
g) Varti before immersion :-
Dry & less in weight; tied with thread
h) Varti before immersion :-
Become heavy as it absorbs oil

Observation of Druti :1) It is black in colour snigdha, emitting obnoxious
Precautions :-
1)
Wash & clean all the t he apparatus as well as hands
properly 2) Take new milk each time during Shodhan 3) Wear mask during ignition prouss, as sulphur on oxidation becomes sulphurdioxide which is poisonous gas 4) Discard initial few drops after ignition; as it may be tilataila 5) Collect the druti in clean vessel

HISTORY OF RASASHASTRA NIRUKTI OF RASA
In Rasashastra rasa refers refers to Mercury. Mercury. But rasa rasa has many meanings such as shadrasas,navarasas,water, liquid, suvarna, visha, amruta, harsha, rasa dahtu, rasna, patha, shallaki,etc. shallaki,etc. rsanaat\ sava- QaatUnaama\ rsa [it AiBaQaIyatoÈ Parad engulfs all the dhatus hence it is called as rasa. Rasashatra has two aims: 1.To earn more money by converting nonprecious metals into precious ones with the help of mercury and mercurial products. 2.To attain longevity, health and vigor by using drugs containing mercurial products. Rasashastra Rasashastra in Vedas : In Vedas rasa is taken as semen of lord shiva. Knowledge Rasashastra supposed to originates originates from lord shiva. Vedas consider Rupa, Agni, Varuna, Indra, Maruta etc as Bhishak. Lord Shiva is considered as first bhishak. RASASHSTRA IN SAMHITA PERIOD: Charak samhita classified substances as Oudbhid, Jangam, parthiv. Parthiv substances includes metals. Charak explained suvarna, tamra, rajat, trapu, sisak, loha as six dhatus. Along with these t hese Charak also
described sikata, sudha, manashila, haratal, lavan, gairika, anjana etc.in parthiv drugs. He given use of these drugs in many diseases. diseases. Charak given a name rajas to fine powder of metals instead of bhasma. b hasma. In Sushruta samhita use of metals,ratna, uparatna, etc. in treatment of many diseases. It also contain use of loha for preparation of shastra,yantra. Sushruta has described use of suvarna as rasayana, rasayana, in increasing intellect, enhancing life, etc. Ashtanga sangraha and Ashtanga hridya gives rasa, virya, vipak of metals. DIFFERENT KALPANAS IN RASASHASTRA RASAYAN KALPA: Kalpas used for destroying ageing and destroying diseases are rasayan kalpas. It enhances the life, ayu, strength, colour, oja. KAJJALI: Kajjali is made by triturating sudha parad and shudha gandhak till it become black coloured and attain shlakshnatva, varitaratva. PARPATI KALPANA: The word ‘parpati’ derived from parpat means thin sheet. Kajjali is melt on fire and it made in thin sheet by pressing them in leaves of kadali, palash etc. This is parpati kalpana. KUPI PAKVA RASAYANA:Medicines made by heatng parad etc. in glass bottle are called as kupi pakva rasayan. •
