INTRODUCTION Congratulations! You have purchased one of the most m ost sophisticated and complete add-on ever developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The accuracy of cockpit and system simulation is very high and there are many features which add realism to the simulation and are not present in standard FS aircrafts. We strongly suggest you to read thoroughly the documentation in order to fully understand the operation of this wonderful aircraft and appreciate all the detail and special features implemented in Fly the t he Maddog. The documentation is divided in three parts: •

User Manual. Manual. You are reading it now; it explains the installation and registration procedures, panel setup and the usage of all the panel special features and accessory applications. Operations Manual. Manual. The O.M. is structured as the real MD82 Operations Manual and it is divided in two volumes: Volume 1 describes the aircraft cockpit and systems; Volume 2 illustrates the Normal and Emergency procedures, aircraft performances and checklists. Tutorial. Tutorial. The tutorial will guide you through a complete flight from Roma Fiumicino (LIRF), and Cagliari Elmas (LIEE) and it is meant t o give you a quick guide on the standard procedures to correctly fly the MD82. Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia (Italy) and is the home of Fly the Maddog team. The flight from Cagliari to Rome takes about 50 minutes.
MINIMUM SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS Pentium IV 2.4GHz or equivalent processor, 1Gb RAM, 2Gb of free hard disk space, 256Mb accelerated 3D graphic card, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 or Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Windows XP/2000 or above (not compatible with Windows 98). Adobe Acrobat® Reader is also necessary necessary to read and print the manual.

INSTALLATION This software has been designed to be compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 9 and Flight Simulator X. This software is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, Vista and Windows 7. It will not work on older operating systems. To install Fly the Maddog double click on the installer file that you downloaded. If the software is provided on a CD the installation will start automatically when the CD is opened; to complete the installation follow the instructions of the installation wizard. The software must be registered before it can be used! If you try to start the panel unregistered the simulator will crash to desktop. Beside the installation of the aircraft files, the installer creates a directory under the FS root named MADDOG2008. This directory contains several f older and files which are described here: • • •

Volume 1. It contains the Operations Manual vol. 1. Volume 2. It contains the Operations Manual vol. 2. Crew. It contains the sound set for the crew and flight attendant messages. By default there will be only one set called Maddog, but the user can prepare custom set and use them (see the Manager paragraph). Routes. It contains the FMS routes SIDSTARS. It contains procedures files. Saves. It contains the saved panel state files. DFDR. It contains the files saved by the Digital Flight Data Recorder. Maddog_lm.exe. This is the Maddog Manager application used to configure all the panel customizable features, to perform the loading and balance of the aircraft and to prepare the routes used by the FMS. MDCP.exe. Maddog Control Panel, this application can connect to the panel using the TCP/IP protocols and provides a means to enable system and instruments failures, or to simulate the presence of ground crew (this function it is also available in the panel itself). Md_Cleanup.exe. This utility must be used to resolve incompatibility issues that can exist with procedures files downloaded from Internet. Fly the Maddog will accept most procedures files prepared for the PMDG aircrafts.
There are also three PDF files with the Normal checklists and with the takeoff and landing speed tables. The installer creates an entry in the Windows Start menu with links to all the application and files of this folder

REGISTRATION In order to register the product you should have an access to internet, but not necessarily from the PC where you want to install Fly the Maddog.
To register the product, follow these steps: 1. Open Fly the Maddog Manager application 2. Click on the Setup tab and than on the Registration tab 3. Enter in the Email field the email address where you want the registration data to be sent, and the purchase code you obtained when you purchased the product. If you DON’T have access to internet, go to step 5. 4. Click on the Register button. Note that the key will enable Fly the Maddog only for the PC for which it was produced; the software will not work on other PCs. MADDOG MENU When the panel is loaded in FS an extra menu will show in the menu bar called Maddog . This menu is used several functions of the panel (in FSX the menu is attached to the Add-on menu). Ground Communication This command will open the ground communication panel. The panel can also be opened from any of the audio panels or by right clicking the mech call button. Crew Communication This command will open the crew communication panel. The panel can also be opened from any of the audio panels or by clicking the pa button. Save panel state Use this command to save the panel state at any given moment. The file is saved in the
\MADDOG2008\Saves\ user_saved.stt. Note that avery time you exit FS with Maddog running the panel state is saved in a file named previous.stt. Connect to Control Panel Select this command to connect to the Maddog Control Panel (see below on this document). Start multi-crew session as PF, Start multi-crew session as PNF Select this commands to start a multicrew session (see below on this document). Stop and disconnect all Closes all connection and stop multi crew session. Manual (English)..., Manuale (Italiano)... Select this command to open the documentation in PDF format. Official Website... Fig. 1 shows the different panels of Fly the Maddog and the hidden clickable zones. The different click areas are identified as follows: These areas are used to open the related panel identified by the hot spot or a panel that shows a nearby area of the cockpit. •

These areas are used to close a panel window.

Icons area used to open/close all the panel windows.
Clickable areas for positioning speed/altimeter bugs and change ND/VSI display settings. For the ASI and altimeter, the ‘corner’ spots are used to position the bugs manually by using the mouse wheel, and the other spots of the ASI are use to position the bug automatically. Click on the middle upper part of the ASI to position the bugs for take off, on the center left two reset the bugs and on the middle lower part two position the bugs for landing. •
Left click on this area to show/hide the window frame, or change the outside view angle with the mouse wheel. The view can be reset by pressing the middle mouse button. •

Hidden spot used to tilt the mirror to see the magnetic compass.

Hidden spot used to switch between PF and PNF when flying in multi crew.

INTERACTING WITH THE PANEL The Maddog panel has been designed to be used with a three button wheel mouse; however with some small limitation it is still possible to use the panel with a two or three button mouse without the wheel. Mouse wheel and accelerator function. When over a multiple-position knob the mouse wheel can be used to change the value. The wheel has the same function over any of the knob click zones (see below). The accelerator function can be always enabled (from the LM) or temporary enabled by using the wheel with the middle button pressed (in most mouse the middle button is the wheel itself which can be pressed and rotated). Right click. When applicable (multiple position knobs) right click in an inc/dec area to change the value with a bigger step. Click zones. In the knobs, the increment area is always above, and the decrement area below; for multiple coaxial knobs, the outer knob is controlled by clicking at the left side and the inner knob by clicking at the right of the knob. In the knobs that can also be pushed and/or pulled, the central area is used for this function, with the left and right mouse click used to push/pull (the left click is assigned to the main function, regardless if it is push or pull ). The lever switches have generally one or two click areas, except the guarded switches which have a third zone to toggle the guard position. This zone is above or below the switch depending on the guard opening direction. Standard FS commands that have different behaviors when using Maddog The following FS commands have a different behavior in Maddog or triggers some secondary effect: AUTOPILOT ON/OFF (by default assigned to the Z key). In Maddog this command is used solely to disengage the autopilot; pressing again the key will switch off the red AP warning light in the FMA. The autopilot must be engaged by clicking on the AP switch of the guidance or with the key eventually assigned to the Maddog AUTOPILOT_SET command (see the PANEL SETUP). AUTOTHROTTLE ARM (by default assigned to SHIFT+R). In Maddog this command is used solely to disengage the auto throttle; pressing again the key will than switch off the red AT warning light in the FMA. The auto throttle must be engaged clicking on the AT switch of the guidance or with the key eventually assigned to the Maddog AUTOTHROTTLE_SET command (see the PANEL SETUP). PARKING BRAKE TOGGLE (FS default CTRL+.). The key assigned to this FS function is used in flight to silent the gear horn alarm.

TRIM & CONTROL SURFACES. Moving the trim or the control surfaces with the AP on will disengage the autopilot. THROTTLE CUT & INC/DEC (FS defaults: F1, F2 and F3). This keys are active also with the auto throttle engaged and can be used to temporary override the AT or to help the automatism to capture a speed (this technique is largely used by real MD pilots which assists the auto throttle by manually moving the throttle levers even when the AT is engaged). VIRTUAL COCKPIT All the switches and knobs can be moved using the mouse wheel, in addition all the switches and knobs that have discrete position can be moved by dragging them with the mouse. The CM1 window can be opened by dragging the black knob first down and then to the left (the window will not open above a certain altitude when the cabin differential pressure is to high) The control wheels can be lowered to allow a better visibility of the main panel by clicking on the bar.

MULTI CREW Maddog has a built-in multi crew function which enables the sharing of the panel between two different PCs connected via internet or local network. When connecting to a remote PC the IP and Port of the server (PF) must be set from the Manager at the client side (PNF), this is not necessary if the connection is made in a local network. The connection is made between a server (PF) and a client (PNF), by selecting the corresponding command from the Maddog menu. The server must be enabled first, then the client. If the client connection it is not enabled after 10 second the control is returned to FS and an error message is displayed. To start a multi crew session, follow these steps: 1) Make sure that the network is installed and working on both PCs. If the two PC are in the same local network go two step 3). 2) Find the IP address of the PC that will connect as PF (server); the default port number is 26869 (it can be changed from the Manager application). In the PC that will connect as PNF (client), start the Manager, go to the Setup page and insert the IP and port values for the multi crew connection. When done close the Manager. 3) Be sure to use the same startup situation and panel state on both PCs. 4) Start FS with Maddog on both PCs; select the command Start multi-crew session as PF from the server PC and afterwards within ten seconds select the command Start multi-crew session as PNF from the other PC. The status of the connection is shown for a period of 5 second in the upper left (captain) or upper right (first officer) of the main panel. The messages shown are: PF or PNF, in magenta, when connected as a server or client. DISC, in magenta, when disconnected. ERR, in red, when the connection is broken (try disconnecting and connect again…) • • •
When connected, the role of PF/PNF can be swapped between the two PCs by clicking in the upper left (captain) or upper right (fo) part of the screen. The PF and PNF has the same degrees of control over the flight, the difference between the two modes is that the position and attitude of the aircraft are synchronized from the PF to the PNF. Due to network delay, the visual of the PNF can be disturbed and not as fluid as the PF. For this reason the pilot flying the aircraft should be connected as PF. The synchronization of position and attitude is made through FSUIPC for FS9 and SimConnect for FSX.

TCAS data TCAS data is shared between PF and PNF; to avoid conflicts only one of the two PC should be a source for the traffic (either AI or Multiplayer traffic). Multiplayer TCAS data is obtained from FSUIPC. IVAP or other online flying clients Only one of the two PC must be connected to IVAP or to the online client. Maddog Control Panel Only one of the two PC should be connected to the Maddog CP. All the command send by the Control Panel are routed to the other PC automatically. The use of the CP is optional.
GROUND & CREW COMMUNICATION The ground or the crew communication can be activated in several ways: 1) From the Maddog menu 2) From the Audio Panel (right click on the corresponding mic button) 3) By right clicking the mech call (ground) or left clicking the PA button (crew). 4) By assigning the corresponding command to a key (defaults are Ctrl+Shift+1 and Ctrl+Shift+2). Ground communication. To enable the ground communication, in the audio panel the INT mike and the speaker source must be selected (due to limitation of FS, the t hree audio panel (CM-1, CM-2, overhead), which in the real aircraft are completely independent, are linked together and have all the same function).
Connect Ground Power Unit Use this function to connect or disconnect the GPU. The GPU will provide electrical power when on ground and the engines and APU are off.

Connect Air Starter Unit Use this function to connect or disconnect the ASU. The ASU will provide pneumatic air for engine startup when the APU is off. Connect Air Conditioning Use this function to connect or disconnect external air conditioning Ground deice Use this function to perform a ground deicing operation (see the ICING paragraph) Pushback Use this function to activate the Maddog pushback module. The pushback distance can be set by dragging the semicircular symbol up or down and the final heading by dragging left and right. The blue segments shows the final position of the aircraft body; there is also a numerical indication of the distance the aircraft is moved back and of the heading.
Refueling Use this function to add or reduce the fuel loaded from within the simulator. To set the desired fuel use the mouse wheel on the SET buttons.
Fix all failures Use this function to fix all the failures eventually triggered by the Maddog Control Panel, reload extinguisher bottles and reconnect the CSDs.

Crew communication
PA emergency light test The PA emergency light test must be performed on ground (with the emergency light switch in the ON position) in order to enable the other functions. Start Boarding/Unboarding Use this function to start the boarding or unboarding simulation. Prepare for Takeoff/Landing Use this function to trigger the corresponding flight attendant messages.

ICING Fly the Maddog implements realistic icing behaviors. Visual evidence Icing conditions can be detected by ice accumulation in the windshield wiper. If the windshield anti ice is off the ice will accumulate also in the windshield itself. Ice FOD Ice accumulation is possible also on ground, and the ice FOD detector is working! When ice condition are detected or suspected on ground it is mandatory to perform a Ground deice operation (see Ground Communication). The Ground deice operation will protect the airframe from icing on ground and eliminate accumulated ice after an ice FOD alarm. If the ICE FOD ALERT comes ON on ground, it is advisable to deice the aircraft or there could be an engine failure after takeoff due to ice FOD… After deicing the annunciation can be turned off by resetting the ice FOD system. Icing in flight Icing in flight can lead to engine flame out if the anti ices are not used. When in presence of Severe icing conditions (as set up in the FS advanced weather page), the ice accumulation rate is too high for the various anti ice systems. This is noticeable by increasing windshield ice even with the windshield anti ice ON. Flying too long in Severe icing condition can cause an engine flame out even if the engine anti ice is ON. Icing can also affect the PITOT when PITOT heater is off, or the static port.

DIGITAL FLIGHT DATA RECORDER Maddog implements a working DFDR (see O.M., Vol1, Cap1 for more details). In order to avoid performance issues (even if the impact of DFDR on frame rate is very low) it will only activate if the pilot makes two manual data entry on ground. These entries are made also in real life and are used to store in the memory the flight data (flight, day, month and leg) and aircraft weight and balance.
The correct procedure to activate the DFDR is the following: 1) Move the flight recorder switch located in the aft overhead to the GND TEST position, and note that the FLT RECORED OFF message is removed from the annunciator panel. 2) Select the correct day, month, flight number and leg in the flight recorder (leg must not be 0) and push the INSERT button. 3) Select the take off weight and CG and 000 in the last 3 entries; press again the INSERT key. 4) Move back the flight recorder switch in the aft overhead to the NORM position, the message FLT RECORDER OFF will reappear in the annunciator panel. These steps are normally performed during the cockpit preparation (the second entry it is normally made during taxiing) when engines are off and this is the reason why it is necessary to move the switch to activate the DFDR; the flight recorder will automatically activate when either fuel shutoff level is opened or when the parking brakes are released. The DFDR will record relevant events and aircraft data in a file that will be saved in the MADDOG2008\DFDR folder. The file name will be created from the actual flight number and date with extension .txt. The file is structured in a way that makes it easy to load it in a worksheet application like Microsoft Excel or it can be viewed with any text editor.

FMS DATABASE The Maddog installer will install also a version of the FMS database, and the procedures files needed to fly the tutorial flight. To update the database to a newer version or to download available procedure files check this websites (note that they give a general service and there is no relationship between us and these providers): www.navdata.at http://ndac.navigraph.com/www/default.asp If Maddog it is not specifically stated as compatible add-on, please download the files for the PMDG aircrafts. After installation start the Manager & Setup, the application will recognize that new AIRAC have been installed, will automatically move all the files to the folder \MADDOG2008\SIDSTARS and run the MD_Cleanup in background.
FSUIPC FSUIPC is a tool (free to use for the final user) that expand the potentiality of add-ons for FS9 and FSX. Even if it is not indispensable to have installed FSUIPC to use Fly the Maddog, it is required for some features (like multi crew visual synchronization in FS9 and multiplayer TCAS table). PANEL SETUP The setup utility for the panel is accessed from Fly the Maddog Manager by clicking on the Setup tab. There are four tab buttons to access the pages that group the setup parameters and one to access the registration page. General

This tab shows all the customizable options of the panel and other and other general settings. Virtual cockpit, pilot position. Set this option to have the Virtual Cockpit. When the VC is present the initial pilot position can be chosen from the popup menu. Wide 2D panel. Set this option to use the wide 2d panel version with aspect ratio 1.6 (i.e.. 1920x1200 o 1280x800). The wide CM1 panel includes also a part of the CM2 allowing a simpler control of the aircraft from the left seat. Configuration. Use this list box to select all the panel and aircraft settings corresponding to a particular airline. The option Custom allows setting all the parameters independently. Panel model. This option will allow to choose between the following panel o versions: EFIS, FMS. Standard Maddog, with PFD, ND and Honeywell FMS for both LNAV and VNAV. EFIS, CMA900, PMS. EFIS Panel with Canadian Marconi CMA900 FMS for LNAV and PMS (Performance Management Computer) for VNAV (PERF) mode. EFIS, Analog. Panel with PFD, ND and Honeywell FMS but with analog engine gauges (EDP), system gauges (SDP) and annunciator panel (OAP). o Panel color . This sets the panel color, pinkish/grayish or cyan/blue. PFD and ND Style. Select “FD cross bar” to display the flight director o cross bar and the glide slope indicator on the right. Select “FD single cue” to display the flight director as single cue and the glide slope indicator on the left. PFD on opposite NAV. Set this option to visualize the G/S scale of the o opposite NAV (NAV2 for PFD1 and NAV1 for PFD2). o Measurements Units. Show/hide the RR in the PFD. o o Show Armed altitude as flight level. Select this option to show the armed altitude in the FMA with the flight level instead of the text ALT. o Auto Arm Altitude. Check this option to enable the guidance to automatically arm the altitude selected with the alt knob. o Fuel quantity display with green LEDs. Check this option to have the display in green instead of the standard amber color. Autobrake. Set this option to have the Autobrake system. o o Cone tail exterior model. Set this option to use the external model with the old ‘cone’ tail in place of the standard ‘flat’ tail version. Background music. Select a file WAV which will be automatically played in the background during the boarding simulation. Default situation. Browse the situation file that will be used by the panel. The situation is used to store the fuel quantities and is automatically started when the Start FS option is checked. Crew audio files set. Select from the menu the audio set to be used for F/O calls and flight assistant messages. To add a file set copy the audio files in a subfolder of \ MADDOG2008\Crew\. Every audio file must have the correct file name. Please refer to the files present in the Maddog folder for the exact file names. •

Button toolbar shows. Select the way the icons to open the different panels are shown: Auto (they appears when the mouse cursor is moved over the icons area), Always or Never. Filter NAVDATA database. This option is used to limit the loading of the NAVDATA database to an area specified by an airport and a radius in nautical miles. This will save more memory for the simulator, and also will add realism since a company which is based, for example, in Europe, will not need the database for North America for his MD82s since they will never flight there. Use input accelerator for rotary knob. By default the acceleration function for the mouse wheel is activated only when the middle button is pressed, check this option to have the acceleration function always available. Enable thrust axis filter in clamp mode. Select this option to avoid spurious signals from the joystick from changing the thrust setting when the A/T is in clamp mode at takeoff. Automatic update aircraft weight e cg. Select this option to let the load manager automatically update ZFW and takeoff C.G. in the panel. If this option is disabled TO CG and ZFW must be set manually (in the fuel quantity gauge and takeoff condition computer). Autopilot disconnects when flight controls are moved manually. This option should be left checked for better realism, however if the AP disconnects without reason the cause could be a noisy joystick; in this case disabling this check may solve the problem. Always play aural when autopilot disconnects. Check this option if you want the aural to be played every time the autopilots disconnects and not only during an autoland. Enable IVAP/SB3 transponder control with GSCM. Set this option in order to have the transponder enabled automatically on takeoff and disabled when landed using the aircraft ground sensing system. First Officer calls. Select this option to enable first officer’s calls. Connect to Control Panel in a local network/current PC. Check this option to connect automatically to the CP in a local network, or uncheck it and insert the IP address and port in the edit fields to connect through the internet. Multi crew connection in a local network/current PC. Check this option to start automatically a multi crew session in a local network, or uncheck it and insert the IP address and port in the edit fields to connect through the internet.

Performance
This page holds all the settings for visual appearance versus performances (frame rate!). There is a Global performance slider with four settings: Best performance, Normal, Best Quality and Custom. The last option lets you set all t he individual slider independently. As a general rule when moving a slider to the right visual appearance will improve and performances will became poorer, while moving the slider to the left will have the opposite effect.

Refresh rate This slider sets the refresh rate of PFD and ND. There are four settings: Best Performance. PFD and ND refresh time is 1/3rd sec. Normal . PFD and ND is 1/9th sec. High Quality . ND refresh time is 1/9 sec, PFD at 1/18th sec. Best Quality . PFD and ND refresh time is 1/18th sec. • • • •
Vector graphics This slider switch on (Best quality) or off (Best performance) the anti aliasing effect for the ND and PFD display. FGCP This slider sets the anti aliasing effect for the Flight Guidance Control Panel and pedestal radio displays, from off (Best performance) to max (Best quality ) in four steps. EOAP This slider sets the anti aliasing effect for the Electronic Overhead Annunciator, from off (Best performance) to max (Best quality ) in four steps. EOAP in the main panel When the slider is in the Fake display position, the EOAP in the main panel is disabled and will only show a fixed bitmap, while on the other settings it will enable the EOAP and sets the anti aliasing effect from off (Best performance) to max (Best quality ) in four steps. FMS This slider sets the anti aliasing effect for the Flight Management System display, from off (Best performance) to max (Best quality ) in four steps. FMS in the main panel When the slider is in the Fake display position, the FMS in the main panel is disabled and will only show a fixed bitmap, while on the other settings it will show the real FMS screen with different level of anti aliasing. FMA This slider sets the anti aliasing effect for the Flight Mode Annunciator, DME and Fuel Quantity displays, from off (Best performance) to max (Best quality ) in four steps. EGPWS pixel size and quality This sliders set the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System display pixel size and drawing quality. WX pixel size This slider sets the weather radar display pixel size. Draw off LED segment This slider switch off or on the drawing of the LED display segments when are not lighted. In the Normal position the segments of the EDP instruments will not be visible.

Sound
This page permits to change the volumes of all the sounds used by the panel. The Master Volume slider will set a volume level for all sounds while maintaining the different ratios. To change a single sound, select it from the list and use the slider to set the desired volume.

Keyboard
This page is used to assign key combination to specific Maddog commands not available in standard FS. Check the Enable keyboard for FMS and panel commands check box to enable the use of the keyboard for the panel. The list shows all the assigned commands, the selected command can be deleted by pressing the Delete button, while the Add button is used to assign a new key.

The following parameters must be set in order to create a new key assignment. Maddog command. Select a n item from the list of all the available panel commands. Command Parameter . Enter here the value associated with the command. For a switch (like for example Flight Director ON/OFF) use 0 for OFF and 1 for ON. When the command is related to a knob (like for example AP_HDG_VAR) the parameter is the new value for the variable (to increment o decrement an autopilot variable the standard FS command can be used). If this field is left blank the command will be issued with the parameter at 1 (ON) when the key is pressed and again with the parameter at 0 (OFF) when the key is released. This allows the usage of a single key for functions like the digital light test that in the cockpit are performed pressing and holding a push button.

LOAD MANAGER
The Load Manager must be used to set the aircraft loading and fuel quantity. Using the FS standard menu for these could lead to aircraft malfunctioning. The LM and the Fuel/Route Planner are the perfect tools to prepare your flight and they will provide you with pro-like load sheet and route documents both printed or in electronic format to be consulted directly in FS.

The program will automatically calculate the aircraft C.G. (as percentage of mean root chord value) which is used in the TAKE OFF CONDITION COMPUTER to calculate the take off trim setting, and check that aircraft loading, weight and C.G. are within operating limits. If any of the above values inserted or calculated is outside operating limit the take off C.G. value will be displayed in RED, together with the field which causes the problem. Cabin and cargo areas are divided in to sections, indicated with A/FWD, and with B/AFT. PAX & BAGGAGES Insert here the number of passengers for area A and B. The buttons ! and" can be used to transfer passengers from the A area to the B area, or vice versa. Baggage weight is calculated automatically and included in the AFT cargo. CARGO Insert here any extra cargo items that are carried on this flight. The buttons ! e " can be used to transfer cargo loads from the FWD to the AFT compartments and vice versa. Press the RND button to calculate a random load of the aircraft. Note that the calculated balance chart could lead to invalid C.G. or weight above maximum ZFW or TOW. When this happen the load parameters must be changed manually. FUEL Insert here the fuel quantity divided between wing (left and right) and center tank. A yellow background in the left and right fields indicates that the ZFW falls below the MZFW limited wing. When this happen the total fuel loaded in the wing tanks is limited to 4762Kg, any extra fuel needed must be loaded in the center tank. The fuel quantity will be written in the default situation selected in the setup page. The buttons ! and" can be used to transfer fuel from the center to t he wing tanks. Every time a value is inserted or modified the progr am will recalculate ZFW and TOW weights as well as aircraft balance. WEIGHTS This box display the weights used for C.G. calculation. DOW. Dry Operational Weight. ZFW. Zero fuel weight. TOW. Takeoff weight. • • •

INDEX & CG An INDEX value will be calculated for any of the above weight. The INDEX is used to evaluate the C.G. from the chart. DOI. Dry Operational Index. ZFI. Zero Fuel Index (the corresponding ZFW CG is indicated by a blue dot in the chart). TOI. Takeoff Index, the corresponding takeoff C.G. is indicated by a green dot in the chart. C.G. The calculated takeoff C.G. which must be inserted in the takeoff condition computer. • •

If any of the values inserted or calculated is outside operating limit the take off C.G. value will be displayed in RED, together with the field which causes the problem. When everything is correct the green dot in the chart indicates the zero fuel weight C.G. value, while the blue dot indicates the takeoff C.G. value. Press the button
to print the load sheet.
Press the OK button to confirm the load and balance data. Check the Start FS option if you want to start automatically the simulator with the default situation. Check the Reload saved state if you want to load a panel state file previously saved. A dialog box will pop-up to select the panel state file.

FUEL/ROUTE PLANNER
The Fuel/Route Planner page is used to create a flight plan with fuel calculation and meteo information; it is also possible to import flight plan in FS format. The flight plan must be saved to be used in the Maddog FMS as a COROUTE (FMS ROUTE PAGE).

ROUTE Departure (ICAO): Insert the ICAO code of the departure airport. Arrival (ICAO): Insert the ICAO code of the arrival airport. Alternate (ICAO): Insert the ICAO code of the alternate airport. Distance to dest.: Calculated distance along the route from the departure airport to the arrival airport. STA: Scheduled Time of Arrival calculated from the inserted STD. Use the ADD and DELETE buttons to add and remove waypoints or airways from the route. To insert a direct to waypoint the ‘VIA’ field should be left empty. The route is inserted in the same way as in the ROUTE PAGE of the FMS. Select LOAD or SAVE to load and save the route. The routes for the FMS must be saved in the folder \MADDOG2008\Routes, in order to be later loaded in the FMS as COROUTEs. FLIGHT Date: Data of the flight STD: Scheduled Time of Departure. Flight Number : flight number as scheduled. Cruise level FL: Insert here the estimated cruise level for the flight in hundreds of feet. Cruise speed: Insert the IAS or the MACH speed for the flight. A MACH value can be input as decimal number or as a whole number (i.e. 0.760 or 760). Captain: Captain’s name FUEL Trip: Calculated fuel for the route inserted Contingency: Default 750kg, can be modified if necessary. Alternate: Calculated fuel from destination to the alternate airport. Final Reserve: Desired reserve fuel PLN takeoff : Calculated fuel at takeoff Extra: Extra fuel to take into accounts delays, holdings or other situations during the flight. Taxi: Fuel for taxiing (default 300kg, normally burned before takeoff). Block fuel: Fuel to load in the aircraft. Pressing the Transfer fuel QTY to Load Page will automatically transfer the calculated fuel in the fuel fields of the Load page. METARs / TAFs Press the Download button to download from internet METARs and TAFs of the departure, arrival and alternate airports (a connection to internet must be active). The text box can be edited before printing the flight plan. Press the button
to print the flight plan.

FAILURES Move the slider to set the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) from 1 hour to infinite (no failures). Failures are classified in light, serious and dangerous. INOPs This section will list, aircraft by aircraft, the deferred inoperative systems added automatically if a failure occurs or manually using the Add button. Even with any of thi system inoperative the aircraft is allowed to fly but with the limitations listed in the corresponding MEL (see Operation Manual, Volume II, chapter 7). To connect the panel to the MDCP follow these steps: 1) Make sure that the network is installed and working on both PCs. If the two PC are in the same local network (or the CP runs in the same PC as FS…) go two step 3). 2) Find the IP address of the PC where the CP is running (server); the default port number is 26867 (it can be changed from the Manager application). Note that if the PC is connected to internet through a modem or ADSL the server IP that appears in the MDCP main window is the local IP number and not the IP assigned by the internet provider. 3) Start FS with Maddog and select the command Connect to Control Panel . If the connection is established the Aircraft information page will be populated by current aircraft values. GROUND UTILITIES

CLEANUP UTILITY
The cleanup utility can be used to fix automatically many of the incompatibility issues that can be found in the downloaded procedure files. It is recommended to backup the procedure files before running the utility program.

APPENDIX – Procedure files INTRODUCTION This document illustrates the differences and limitations in the procedure programming language for the Maddog FMS. Some definitions: Keywords are identified in BOLD In case there is the possibility to use several keywords in a command, the keywords are separated by a / (slash) Optional keywords and fields are included in [] brackets. Variable fields are included in <> Maddog is case sensitive when comparing or searching for a string. The following document describes ALL the commands implemented in t he Maddog FMS. Any other commands are ignored and the procedures where the command is encountered are discharged.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL PROCEDURE FILES The files for departure and arrival procedures are not included in the Maddog installation, but available for free download in internet. A website where it is possible to find the procedure files is www.navdata.at. If the format for Maddog does not appear in the menu choose the format for the PMDG. After installation start the Manager & Setup, the application will recognize that new AIRAC have been installed, will automatically move all the files to the folder \MADDOG2008\SIDSTARS and run the MD_Cleanup in background.

FIXES The maximum number of fixes in the file is 512. This section lists all the fixes needed by the subsequent procedures and which are not part of the AIRAC database. The section starts with the keyword FIXES and ends with the keyword ENDFIXES Example: FIXES FIX FRS LATLON N 41 38.62 E 13 17.38 FIX D19 COLOCATED OST 193 19 ….. ….. ….. FIX D25T COLOCATED TEA 312 25 ENDFIXES The following commands are implemented: FIX LATLON See the example for coordinate format. FIX COLOCATED must be in the AIRAC database or defined in a precedent FIX command. is degree magnetic, and nautical miles (can be a floating point number).
SID/STAR APPROACH The maximum number of procedures per file is 256 SIDs, 256 STARs, 256 APPROACHes and 256 TRANSITION for each SID, STAR or APPROACH to which they are associated. The description of a procedure should not exceed 1024 characters (or 64 waypoints). All the commands for a procedure must be in the same line. SIDs description like this: SID BAR6A RNW 24 TRK 235 UNTIL 437 FIX … should be changed as follow: SID BAR6A RNW 24 TRK 235 UNTIL 437 FIX.... The procedures of type STAR, APPROACH and TRANSITION must start with a point that has a definite position and not relative to the pr evious position in the route (commands like FIX or NAVAID are accepted, instruction like KEEP TRK or HDG123 INTERCEPT.... are not permitted). TRANSITIONs are associated to the procedure that precedes them. The SID section starts with the keyword SIDS and ends with the keyword ENDSIDS; the STAR section starts with the keyword STARS and ends with the keyword ENDSTARS; the section APPROACH starts with the keyword APPROACHES and ends with the keyword ENDAPPROACHES. Any other section in the file is ignored.

TURN LEFT/RIGHT DIRECT Can be inserted before a FIX/NAVAID command in order to set the turn direction from the previous fix. FIX/NAVAID [FAF/MAP] [OVERFLY] [[AT OR ABOVE / BELOW] [] [SPEED ]] This command add a waypoint defined in the FIXES section (FIX) or in the database (NAVAID). The keyword FAF or MAP will identified the corresponding procedure point and it is used for the CMA900 FMS only. The keyword OVERFLY force the aircraft to fly over the waypoint before starting the turn to the next waypoint. RNW When found in an APPROACH,STAR or TRANSITION procedure a waypoint it is created at the reference position of the runway. When found in a SID procedure it is used to group all the SIDs of that particular runway (but no waypoint it is created). HOLD AT NAVAID/FIX LEFT/RIGHT TURN INBOUNDCOURSE ALT SPEED LEGDIST/LEGTIME Creates an holding at the specified point. This command is valid only for procedures of type TRANSITION or APPROACH. . Inbound course magnetic direction holding altitude in feet holding speed in knots length or time of the inbound leg. HDG/TRK e KEEP HDG/TRK This command instruct the FMS to follow the magnetic direction (or track) indicated or to maintain the heading/track of the previous leg.

The following commands must be preceded by an HDG/TRK or KEEP HDG/TRK command, abbreviated in the following descriptions with the keyword : INTERCEPT/UNTIL RADIAL FROM/TO NAVAID/FIX [[AT OR ABOVE / BELOW] [] [SPEED ]] Starting from the previous route position, and with direction determined by the command, calculates the intersection with the radial from or to waypoint . The difference between INTERCEPT and UNTIL is that the last keyword will force the creation of an overfly waypoint. The speed limitation command is optional. UNTIL [SPEED ] The next fix (of type overfly) is positioned where the aircraft reaches the altitude . The fix is created taking into account the average final descent and initial climb capabilities of the Maddog. UNTIL FROM [[AT OR ABOVE / BELOW] [] [SPEED ]] A fix is created at the intersection of the direction , starting from the previous route point, and the circle of radius centered in UNTIL NOT BEFORE FROM [SPEED ] This command can be considered a merge of the last two commands. A fix is created at the calculated position where aircraft reaches altitude unless it is inside the circumference of radius centered in . In this case the intersection with the circle it is used to position the fix.
