FI - Customizing SAP
Customizing SAP Before using SAP you can tailor it to match your companies business requirements, when you make adjustments what you are actually doing is adjusting the underlying parameters or values of the application tables by selecting from a list of options or providing your own values. Implementation Guide (IMG)
SAP's Implementation Guide (IMG) helps carry out the customizing tasks in a structured way, it is a hierarchical structure of the application areas in the component hierarchy. It contains documentation and customizing tasks that can help you to configure the SAP system. You can perform the following in the IMG Change documents in the IMG without changing the original Read the description of the nodes in the IMG structure Make custom settings Activate or deactivate business add-ins (BAdIs) in your system Enter status or project information Print the structure of the entire IMG, or print documentation from the IMG You can change user specific settings of the IMG by entering the transaction code SPRO at the SAP Easy access window then selecting settings -> user-specific
Then select the IMG the IMG struct tab tab
You can also change cross-project settings, settings settings, settings -> cross-project settings
There are three variants of IMG serving three different purposes in customizing
SAP Reference IMG
this is the default, containing full functionality for all possible customizing settings settings across all countries and application components. You can get to the IMG by typing SPRO on the sap menu on the SAP Easy Access screen, then select the button " SAP Reference IMG", the one with the glasses.

FI - Customizing SAP this is used to customize your own project, it contains all the activities that can be performed in a particular project, including project scope by countries, components or customizing activities, this is a subset of the IMG We will create a project later in this section and you can see that it can help in a large or small project.
Project View IMG
this is a sub-set of the Project IMG, it is made up of attributes selected from a Project IMG. You can generate views to structure your project activities by specified criteria. By assigning project team members a view, you ensure that the team members get lists with views of all projects to which they are assigned, they are useful in implementing projects, releases and system upgrades and for legal changes.
Below is a screenshot of the IMG
I use transaction codes if i can and sometimes I would like to know the transaction code when I am using the IMG, to find out what the transaction code is of a particular IMG task we select additional information -> display key -> IMG activity this then fills in an additional column called additional information, now in most cases you can see the transaction code which is the last four characters (notice the red boxes in the below screenshot), this may not be the case for all tasks but it may help to find the transaction code.
Before I move on you can also obtain information if the task is mandatory/optional (left screenshot) and if they are critical/non-critical (right screenshot), have a look at other informational information in the additional information section

Logical Components of IMG
The IMG is made up of the following components SAP Netweaver
you will find all the general settings relating to country, currency, calendar, time zone, units of measurement, mobile infrastructure, business intelligence, application server and knowledge management.
Enterprise Structure
You will see several tasks structured in this group to carry out the definition and assignment of various organizational elements relating to FI, CO, Logistics, Sales and Distribution, Materials Management, Logistics Execution, Plant Maintenance and Human Resources Management.
Cross-Application components
There are about 25 categories in this logical group with tasks and functions used across applications
Functional Applications
This group contains a number of functional application areas which include FI, FSCM, Investment Management (IM), CO, Enterprise Controlling (EC), Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM), Logistics (General & Execution), EH&S, SD, MM, QM, PM and CS, PP, PS, Time Management, Payroll, Public Service Sector Management and SAP Global Trade Services.
Projects
As mentioned above project management can be made easier by using SAP projects, you can define a project add application components and assign this tasks to staff members, keep track on what is happening and even obtain what resources and resources days are needed to carry out the project to competition. First I will shown you how to use the project fully then I will show you how you can just use the project to assign transports too so that you can identify with a project name (in otherwords you don't really care about start and stop times, assignment of users, resources days, etc) To create and customize a project, you first create a project to outline the scope of the implementation in terms of application, functions, countries, etc. To List existing projects or create new ones select goto - project management
To create a new project called datadisk we select create project (F5)
In the create project screen enter a description about the project plan data and actual data, if you notice you will see the resource fields, these are maintained in person days (PD) and help to cost a project.

Now we will run the generate view IMG the red/white circle icon, after a period of time you will see the below in the bottom left-hand corner
Now select the display IMG view button (glasses IMG button), and now you will see all the application components (or tasks) that are required, here we can assign to a member of staff and he can fill in the details on when he/she started and finished and how long it took him/she, you can add noted and memos, once the task has been completed the status of the task will close.
We can add this project to the main IMG screen by selecting add to worklist and selecting our project, as seen below

We can obtain a project status by selecting the project analysis button in the main IMG screen, you first enter a filter screen were you can select a particular project
We can clearly see where the status of the project is, you can see if tasks are still open, closed, who owns them, etc.
Project Management in SAP is very good you can see what tasks are required (application components) and you can keep track on progress, it does not take to much to learn it and use it, however some companies use there own document and project management software, for example Microsoft Project, you can use it for small or large projects. However you can use just the bear minimum and use it just to assign transports too so that to identify them with a project name, here is a complete example of this, first create a project as we did before keeping all the defaults but just adding a title, the countries in the scope tab will be left as the default (all countries) http://kenlori.com/datadisk/www.datadisk.co.uk.022314/html_docs/sap/fi/customizing.htm

In the the transport organizer (tcode SE10), we can create a transport and assign it to the project, in the project drop down list you should see the project in our case FI_US_05
Once the transport request has been created you can clearly see any transport tasks which are assigned to your project, now you relate trasnport changes to a project.
