Release Notes Fixes in 5.1.1 Change
Description
Data Domain –
TSM Calculation Issue
Data Domain –
Reports show incorrect capacity Avam ar –
Replication stats did not display all data
An issue with TSM retention being calculated too low has been identified. This fix will update all TSM datasets and repair retention values based on the original backup capacity and incremental size. Values for the raw capacity in the dataset area table view were incorrect and have been changed to the raw capacity, before reduction. Avamar calculations for replication have been fixed to display the correct replication capacity and bandwidth.
New Features in 5.1.0 Change
Description
Data Domain –
Capacity calculations use 52 weeks
In order to model a sizing more accurately, calculations will now consider 52 weeks per year and daily growth.
Data Domain –
Support for sizing using Data Domain OS 5.1 has been added to the application.
Support for Data Domain OS 5.1 Data Domain –
A full backup which spans a window over several days can now be scheduled. On all non-full days, an incremental will be assumed to run, and the full will be spread over the selected days of the week.
Data Domain –
Restore time calculations supported
Restore/read operations for Data Domain has been added, and can be found under the Restore tab in the Configuration block of the main page. The time calculated is if the restore was split evenly across all systems.
Data Domain –
Backup provider IBMi commands will enforce VTL protocol only policy
IBMi is strictly VTL, and so it will only display in the Backup Provider list if all datasets for a sizing use VTL protocol. If selected, VTL will be the only protocol available for future datasets added to the sizing.
Data Domain –
The incremental backup size will be automatically calculated based upon the full size and daily change rate. These three fields will remain synchronized, so if incremental size is changed, the daily change ra te will also change appropriately.
Support for rolling full backups
Incremental backup size automatically calculated
Data Domain –
View dataset dialog displays Archiver details
Archiver details and retention will be displayed in the dialog when View is selected on a dataset with Archiver enabled.
Data Domain –
Adding custom datatypes in Options/Settings
The dialog and interface for adding custom datatypes in the Options/Settings dialog has been designed to be more intuitive.
Data Domain –
When editing a dataset, the subsequent full reduction ratio/percentage will be dynamically displayed based on the other field inputs.

report Av amar –
Avamar, the interface will ask for the number of clients and the average size. The application will enforce a maximum of 5000 clients per grid during recommendations calculations. When selecting to print services, the proper version of services will be printed depending on the system being sized.
Quarterly copies retention box removed
Quarterly backups for Avamar are not supported; any existing Sizings with quarterlies selected will have them converted to monthly copies and the total will display in the monthly copies field.
Custom datatypes can be added from the Data Set Editor
Custom datatypes can be added by clicking on the reduction ratio/percentage in the Data Set Editor and modifying the reduction directly. The application will create the custom datatype and assign It upon saving the data set.
Reports are now output in Word-compatible format
The reports printed by the application are now in a Word-compatible text format so they will be easier to edit and modify to customize for in dividual situations.
Reports will now contain warnings
If a sizing generates warnings or errors during calculation, those will be printed into the report. This is a selectable option when printing, and they will be added to their own section.
Reports now display the application version
The application version will be printed to generated reports so that it is easier to identify the version used to perform a given sizing.
Bulk import of Sizings/Accounts
Multiple Sizing and/or Account XML files can be selected during an import operation, and all will be processed and imported.
Move and Copy Sizing to new Account
A Sizing can now be moved and/or copied from one account to another when it is selected by clicking the Move or Copy button.
Edit Notes from main screen
A Notes button has been added to the Results viewblock for easy editing of the selected Sizing’s notes.
Replication speed limit warning
If the selected sizing hits the replication speed limit per system, a red warning will display in the Replication Statistics block to announce this.
Change
Description
Fixes in 5.1.0 Av amar –
overlap for monthly and annual copies fixed
The overlap will now occur correctly for Avamar sizings which contains monthly and annual copies retained.
Data Domain –
Archiver checkboxes displaying inappropriately
The Archiver checkboxes for Data Domain sizings will now only display and be enabled under the appropriate conditions.
Data Domain –
Import of Nearline datasets with only Initial capacity fixed
The schedule of Nearline data sets which only contained an initial backup capacity has been fixed so calculations will use an appropriate schedule.
Data Domain –
Long-term retention with TSM data sets is not a valid configuration, and has been fixed so that it will no longer display.
TSM data sets will not display long-term retention

Fixes in 5.0.2 Change
Description
Data Domain -
Issues with importing sizings/accounts which include custom datatypes have been fixed, including:
issues with importing sizings with custom datatypes
•
•
•
an issue with importing an account with multiple sizings each with custom datatypes an issue opening the application when a sizing with invalid datatypes is selected an issue where exporting a sizing would mark a custom datatype as belonging to an Unknown sizing type
If a pre-existing export file contains invalid data for a custom datatype the app will attempt to import what it can and not hault execution. After importing, the dataset will appear disabled and the datatype column will display a value of “**INVALID**” in the dataset tab. It will be n ecessary to repair the datatype manually. Data Domain -
added a validator to check for longterm retention when there is no full backup
Long-term retention (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) applies to the full and is not valid without a full backup, so this situation has been flagged as an error in the dataset editor.

Explanation and Workaround (if any)
The Enter key does not activate UI components such as Back, Next, etc.
This is an Adobe Flex limitation, but the Spacebar is recognized and can be used for selection/activation
Cannot change upper limit for sizing systems
Help may not display properly in browsers other than Internet Explorer or Safari
Archiver years limited to 3 years

EMC Backup System Sizer Release Notes
All systems sized will make sure the required storage doesn't exceed: •
80% of useable capacity for Data Domain
•
90% of useable capacity for Avamar
Due to some of the coding used by Adobe, the help files may not display/render properly in alternate browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox, etc. If this is an issue, view the help in Internet Explorer or Safari. The number of years for Archiver has been limited to 3. It will be increased when EMC Backup System Sizer is updated to handle 52 weeks per year.
