Advanced Paradiddle Groove Challenge Part One: Hand Placements
Paradiddles are essential rudiments to be learned by all drummers. The symetry of the alternating strokes strengthens each hand equally, and promotes ambi-dexterity:

When I first learned and achieved proficiency with the standard single paradiddle I immediately realized there was great potential to applying the strokes to the drum set. After much thought and experimentation I came up with this pattern:

I liked the feel of the natural accent brought out by the contrasting sounds of the paradiddle, played between the ride cymbal, hi-hat and snare drum. By adding a bass drum on quarter note one, we now have a very unique sounding beat that effectively e ffectively "disguises" the original rudiment: 3. R

Advanced Paradiddle Groove Challenge Part Two: Single Bass Drum Placements In the previous exercises we established a sequence for the paradiddle on the top kit and added a single bass drum. These patterns were learned at the slow rate of 1/8th notes. Lets now bump up the note values and play the patterns in the more traditional rate of 1/16ths. Our snare hits will now be on beats 2 & 4 and we can begin to add more bass drum notes. The new bass drum hits will be added to the quarter note and eighth note positions only. Our ability to maintain the top kit paradiddle will be put to the test by our new bass drum additions. Pay close attention to what hand lines up with the corresponding kick: 1. Ride Hat Snare

Advanced Paradiddle Groove Challenge Part Three: Single Bass Drum 16ths Lets continue the process of coordinating our bass drum against the paradiddle p aradiddle by adding 1/16th notes to the beats. Pay very close attention to what part of the paradiddle the hand is playing while a bass drum is lining up against it:
