You Are So Beautiful, sheet music
So You Want To Lead An Orchestra! 1. Describe the orchestra’s pay structure in terms of levels, differentials and job - or person-based approach. An orchestra has a very typical hierarchical pay structure, with many pay levels and large pay differentials between pay levels. It also seems to be more person-based than job-based structure. Person playing the instrument receive the pay according to the importance and size of the notes played by him so it’s a complete person -based pay structure. 2. Discuss what factors may explain the structure. Why does violinist I received more than the oboist and trombonist? Why does the principal trumpet player earn more than the principal cellist and clarinetist but less than the principal viola and flute player? What explains these differences? Does the relative supply versus the demand for violinists compare to supply versus the demand for trombonists? Is it that violins play more notes? Definitely there are both factors that can explain the difference in pays of different d ifferent instrument players. Violists earn more due to the less supply and more demand in compare to the trombonists and also they definitely play more notes than the oboist and trombonists. It is also the importance of the instrument played that decides the pay level of any instrument holder in an orchestra team. That’s why a principal trumpeter earns more than the c ellist and clarinetist and lesser than the principal viola.
3. How well do equity and tournament models apply? In an orchestra equity and tournament models are applied well. People are paid according to the level of their instrument playing and importance of instrument according to quantity q uantity of the notes played with it. In an orchestra employees are not paid equally but they are paid fairly according to the levels and contents of the job and instruments played by them and the seniority. And pay model is highly hierarchical in nature in an orchestra people are paid according to the hierarchy of the orchestral structure. So equity equit y and tournament models are applied app lied and followed pretty well in an orchestra
