Paganinis zweitem Violinkonzert. Einer der großen Arrangeure, Franz Liszt, machte davon seine berühmte Klavierfassung. Primroses Transkription dieses und anderer Paganini-Stücke war zweifellos als Vehikel seiner eigenen Virtuosität gedacht, und er gestand immerhin, es habe nichts als die „unverschämte, lärmende Bravour das Zepter übernommen, als es an die Übertragung und, wie ich hinzufügen muss, auch an die Aufführung der Paganini-Capricen ging! Ich hatte vor, die Bürger zu erschrecken, und setzte die Katze in den

William Primrose Primrose composed these arrangements in order - as he mischievously wrote - to elevate the viola from its ‘dull dog of the string string family’ status, and to ‘set the cat among the pigeons’ pigeons’ - meaning other other violi violists. sts. Roberto Roberto Díaz, until until recently recently principal principal violist violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, plays the magnificent-sounding c.1600 Amati instrument formerly owned by Primrose.
