Decorative Surface Textures Definitions, Design Instructions
Foreword This Standard specifies the representation on drawings of decorative surface textures such as wood and leather grain, ripples or profiling. It only applies to surface textures created for stylistic reasons. DIN EN ISO 8785 shall apply with regard to the qualitative description of surface textures created for technical reasons. This Standard shall be used in conjunction with: •
a collection of surface texture samples which is available for inspection in the Design/Interior Trim Department or at a location designated by that department.
This edition supersedes the previous edition of this standard dated 2009-10.
Changes In comparison with edition 2009-10, the following changes have been made: Overall document Annex deleted deleted Foreword Section 6

Scope
This Standard specifies the representation on drawings of decorative surface textures such as wood and leather grain, ripples or profiling. This Standard does not describe the quality of surface textures created for technical reasons. The surface textures covered by this Standard are located in the visible area of parts made of plastics, elastomers, natural products (e.g. leather, wood), paper products, laminated textiles, on extruded parts or on covers manufactured from the above-mentioned materials on parts. The relevant surface texture can only be achieved on a suitable material or substrate using the specific forming method.

Normative references

For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any changes) applies. DIN EN ISO 128-20 DIN EN ISO 8785 MBN 31020-1 VDA 2005

Technical Drawings - General Principles of Presentation: Lines Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Surface Imperfections - Terms, Definitions and Parameters (ISO 8785:1998) Title Blocks in Drawings - Layout and Entry Geometrical Product Specifications; Technical Drawings, Specification of Surface Texture
A non-classifying designation with a 6-digit number to identify a surface texture corresponding to a surface texture sample. Natural, reproduced or imitated surface texture as found in layered materials such as wood, sedimentary rock, etc. Surface characterized by the irregular arrangement of surface characteristics, e.g. leather-like, sand-cast-type. In analogy with DIN EN ISO 8785: grooves, dimples, pinholes, pores, raised areas, granules, waves, furrows, scales, stepped plates and chisel marks (for graphic representation, refer to DIN EN ISO 8785). In accordance with DIN EN ISO 8785: repetitive or random deviations from the geometrical surface in the three-dimensional topography of the surface. A surface texture created by the regular arrangement of surface characteristics. A surface texture created by the regular arrangement of grooves.
General requirements
For safety requirements, homologation (in particular, exhaust emissions), and quality, the existing statutory requirements and laws shall be complied with. In addition, the relevant requirements of the Daimler Group apply. All materials, procedures, processes, components, and systems shall conform to the current statutory requirements regarding regulated substances and recyclability.

Specification of surface texture
The relevant decorative surface texture and the related decor number are specified exclusively by Styling taking into account design-related conditions. Decor numbers are listed in the supplementary specifications of this Standard.
6
Indications on drawings
On drawings and in CAD models, the relevant surface shall be identified in accordance with VDA 2005 by the basic symbol with circle (see Figure 1).
Decor
