FIRST DRAFT --------------------------------------------------------------------------DARKNESS – A deep rumble emerges from the emptiness. A hint at a world long extinct. The distinct sound of waves crashing is heard then suddenly the sound of thunder.
―Jurassic Park IV‖ FADE IN COSTÁ RICA, PUNTARENAS, 207 MILES NORTHEAST OF ISLA SORNA. SUMMER. INT. CAFÉ People talking, glass chattering, the sound of thunder bellowing in the distance. The tropical rain beats hard onto the roof of the exotic café. A man sits in a suit at the bar sipping tenderly at his third brandy; our first glance at Wayne Rouké. After a while of waiting Wayne gets up about to leave when all of a sudden a red 4x4 jeep rolls up. Two men and a woman jump out carrying duffel bags and approach Wayne at the bar. They‘re dressed in scruffy, outdoor attire, the large bags have CH4 NEWS stencilled along the side.
Wayne
(Shouting above the rain)
I was about to leave you know. Carl Henicks (one of the film crew) smiles. Carl I don‘t get you Wayne, you flew out
How many hours ahead of us?! Wayne You know it‘s less suspicious if We left at different times. You were told this. But it seemed as if you‘d never come. Now that you‘re here I‘m relieved. H ave you got all the equipment?
Dallas Parker the only female among them gestures to the bags on the floor. Her beautiful looks are covered by a New York Yankees baseball cap. Her blonde hair is tied up at the back. Dallas I‘ve tripled checked everything. We‘ve packed the gear we‘d usually
Have for the African field work, with some Amazon kit thrown in. Dallas opens one of the bags and pulls out a packet of what looks similar to astronaut provisions. Small silver containers of compressed meals. Dallas (cont‘d)
Three nights worth of standard food and water. All we need now is transportation and footage of the animals. Then it‘s back to New York, away from this plastic food. Carl You‘ve booked a boat right?
Wayne downs the rest of his brandy. Wayne
A guy called Alejandro is waiting at the dock. His boat will take us to the island but he needed a whole lot of persuasion. A trip to ―five deaths‖ isn‘t on his charter. Robert Thorne draws in a breath of smoke from a cigarette. His hands shake as he throws the cigarette butt away, hiding his nerves. Thorne How‘d you shake him?
Wayne He wasn‘t cheap, ten t housand.
Carl
You think the company will notice the disappearance of ten thousand? Dallas Not to mention everything else we‘ve
thrown in to this...risk. Carl
InGen has paid for the Media‘s silence for too long. There‘s a lot here to be sucked up. Found. The secrets of that company need to be voiced. A local elderly woman from behind the bar taps Wayne on the shoulder to get his attention.
Bar Woman
A phone call for you sir. Wayne begins to look confused. He hesitates before he gets up to answer the call. He walks around the corner to an old phone attached the wall and cautiously picks up the receiver. Wayne
Hello? CUT TO.
NEW YORK SKYLINE, A MANS DEEP VOICE IS HEARD TALKING OVER THE VIEW OF THE BIG APPLE. A CONCRETE JUNGLE. Voice
Where exactly are you Wayne? INT. CHANNEL 4 NEWS OFFICE. A heavy set black man is sitting behind an desk on the 75th floor of the CH4 News building. Brandishing Brandishing an expensive pinstripe suit, Larry Brooke leans against his desk looking very angry gripping a phone in one hand and a cigar in the other. Larry You‘ve stolen valuable equipment
and money from this company. Not to mention you‘ve made a mockery of myself and others. What the hell do you think you‘re doing Wayne? Wayne (Down the phone)
Larry hear me out. Larry (Interrupting)
Why? CUT TO. Wayne back in Costá Rica
Wayne
Well you remember the InGen piece you turned down? CUT TO. Larry in CH4 office Larry suddenly sits forward. Pushing his cigar into An ash tray. Larry You‘re not serious?
CUT TO. Wayne back in Costá Rica Wayne We‘re doing it.
CUT TO. Costá Rica Thorne checking his digital camera. Thorne
Stupid camera, damn moisture. All of a sudden screaming is heard from across the village. The film crew look up, as does Wayne who hangs up the phone. People rush over to a pickup truck, a blue tarp slung over the back. Robert and the others run over to see what his happening. A man covered in blood down one arm staggers out from the truck, yelling in foreign tongue. He heads to the back of the truck and pulls the tarp off. People Jump back in surprise. In the back of the truck lays the corpse of a Velociraptor. Thorne begins to takes photos. DISSOLVE TO. INT. BOARD ROOM – DAY DAY Roberts face dissolves to a man sitting alone behind a desk. His hands quickly shuffling through a large stack of papers. The man is Edward Regis; the public relations officer of INGEN BIOGENETICS. A confident man, with handsome looks and mind set on solving bumps in the road. Regis was always one to come out on top no matter how difficult the situation was. He takes a sip from a glass of water on the table as a group of suited board members and Lawyers enter the room, talking amongst themselves. Some greet Regis as they enter. But a look of nervousness surrounds the public relations officer. Everyone takes a seat and Regis stands up. He takes a quick fleeting glance at the far end of the table where the current CEO of INGEN Raul Lopez sits waiting for what Regis has to say. Lopez Lopez
(With a nod) Proceed Mr. Regis
Regis
Thank you. I called you gentlemen here for a consultation. (picks up a stack of black and white photos, throwing them across the table.) These were taken eight hours ago in Costá Rica. The pictures show a Velociraptor, dead in Puntarenas. It injured a local man but no deaths occurred. This is the sixth animal to have been found dead on Costá Rican shores, but the first to be alive, when found. The news of this incident is spreading fast and it could rapidly destroy our island preservation program with the UN. Along with any future plans for our other products. It hasn‘t reached outside
Costá Rica as of yet, but news travels fast. Especially bad news. We know that. Raul Lopez sits with a frown of concern on his face. Board Member
Who took the photos? Regis
An American film crew who were about To shoot an exposing documentary about our company. (Looking through some documents) They‘ve set us the pictures as
blackmail. You know these media types. Lopez
What do they want? Regis is confident as he moves closer to the point. Regis (cont'd) I‘ll get to that sir.
(clears his throat) Now, this corporation had been bleeding from the throat for almost a decade. A history of hard battles, Millions of dollars spent paying off wrongful death settlements. Animal transfer from Isla Nublar to Sorna. Equipment deconstruction, and disposal. Media silence and major company threats from the San Diego government. government. Not to mention the unsettling incident in 2001. Dark times
gentlemen , but You have sat patiently and listened to what needed be done to save it, and saved it. The preservation of Site B with worldwide public support has pushed our profits up, to equal where they were all those years ago. And with that support the news five years ago of our Pterosaurs nesting in national parks around the globe SHOULD have killed us outright. But it didn‘t. (sits down) InGen is strong. 17 years of bleak horizons and corporate hatred but we fought it all. But this is NOT what we need, if we want to avoid losing our public support. Our backbone. If I speak frankly we need to meet the demands of this film crew. Murmurs set in around the table. Not a happy face among the crowd of suited officials. Board Member
What does this film crew want? Regis
They want to know what we‘re going to do about this. And they‘ve asked film it, as part of a series of documentaries following the events that surrounded our company. I‘m not quite sure if it‘s bad or
good publicity. Board Member
This is ludicrous. The Costá Rican government has taken control of the Islands from us. There is nothing we can do. One official named Chueng takes one of the photos of the raptor and looks at it curiously. Chueng
How did you say the animal died? Regis I didn‘t. According to the film
crew a local man claimed it just keeled over and died. A veterinary in San Jose diagnosed it with a form of virus, but no one knew what it was. (looking at a Statement from the film crew) ―The body was incinerated to ensure No further spread of the unknown virus.‖ But according to records, not released
before by Costá Rican officials, ―All six animals were diagnosed with the unknown virus. All appearing within five months of each other.‖ Oh and there is no evidence to support it travelling to humans. Lopez gets given the photo and looks at it. Regis (cont‘d)
Mr. Hammond is informed of this. But in his state I guess he was being delirious. Lopez
And what exactly did he say? Regis
He wanted to send in scientists to find out if there is a deadly virus, and find a cure. Save the animals, from extinction. You know how it is. Lopez
And you thought it wise to talk to our EX-CEO before this board? Regis
I was visiting the hospital when I got the news. We‘re old friends. He was most intrigued Chueng
The old man is impractical, impractical, if we were to make that mistake we‘d be running the risk o f losing everything, and we wouldn‘t pick ourselves up from it! Not this time. It‘s far too dangerous.
Lopez suddenly stands up. Lopez Let‘s do it.
Chueng stands up in anger. Chueng
Excuse me?! Lopez
If we go and help these animals and this film crew documents it, our public support will sky rocket. Imagine the publicity we‘d get from this.
People love seeing veterinary programs, and one about these creatures would ensure our safety. Chueng
With all due respect sir, this is corporate suicide.
Lopez No, it‘s what In Gen needs. A
new face. We brought them into the world we can save them from any possible extinction. A film of a team helping these animals would greatly help the promotion of our other future products. Gentlemen thank you for your time, Regis if you would. Regis sits back. Regis
All the members who agree please verify by raising your right hand. One by one each member lifts their hand, until only three members remain with their hands down. Lopez
Meeting adjourned. Chueng shakes his head, disagreeing. disagreeing. People begin to leave, talking amongst themselves. Lopez approaches Regis. Lopez (cont‘d) You‘ll go Regis. A Promotion is
in the picture if you do. That was a great speech. Regis
Thank you sir. Lopez
I‘ll ‘ll make sure it‘s only for couple of days. You know, make deals with our people down there. You‘ll be back before you know it. That is if you‘re up for it?
Regis draws in a low deep breath. His mind shuffling through a million thoughts at once, he couldn‘t have predicted that he would be asked to go, not ever. But he smiles. Regis
Okay, I‘ll go.
CUT TO. INT. PENTHOUSE APRTMENT, COCKTAIL PARTY – NIGHT A mahogany door opens The conversations are grabs a cocktail from The penthouse is full astronomers, CEOS and genius.
and Regis enters the room in a white suit. loud above the jazz music as Regis a waiter. His eyes scan the room. of expensive suits; philosophers, theorists, entrepreneurs all lapping up each others
From across the room Regis sees a familiar friend, Ian Malcolm, leaning on a cane. His dark suit stands out from the others, as he regales a crowd of people with a recent theory of his. Malcolm looks older, wiser, a battled warrior who had seen the darkest side of nature and survived. Regis walks over to Malcolm and interrupts the conversation. Malcolm
Ed? Regis
How is the leg? Malcolm It‘s um okay. Wow it‘s been
a while, what seven years? A suited man standing near the two interrupts. Man
Malcolm, drink? Malcolm
Water please. So what have you been doing? Still working for InGen?
Regis
I was reassigned a year ago, and here I am. Man the last time I saw you was in ‗93. Bringing you the insurance forms to sign in hospital. Remember that? Malcolm
How could I forget? I was surprised when a man in InGen uniform took me out for a stiff drink after my recovery. So what monstrosities they up to now? Regis A new form of ―bright fish .‖ Pale
trouts the department of fish and game of the state of Idaho ordered,
under contract. It represents a new step forward for modern angling. Malcolm
So InGen‘s interests have moved away from Site B? Regis
Well off the record, no. The Animals are sick, under attack from an unknown virus. The new CEO has agreed with the Costá Rican government to drop the restrictions so a research team can go and investigate investigate the problem. Its been a week of hell for myself but we got the thumbs up. Malcolm And you‘re going?
Regis
Yes. I know the dangers but sometimes you have to take a chance. Not many people get to walk on the moon. Malcolm
And not many people get to be eaten by a dinosaur. Doesn‘t the prospect of a harmful virus deter the governments from allowing this? Regis I guess not, it‘s our risk.
From reports of the previous cases of the virus, humans who came in contact with the infected animals were un-harmed. The InGen CEO has full insurance on us anyway. It was surprisingly easy to drop restriction restriction around the island. Malcolm That‘s no surprise, you‘re expendable, It‘s been nice
knowing you. Regis smiles uncomfortably and takes a sip of his drink. Malcolm looks at him with concern. Malcolm (cont‘d)
So what are you doing here? Regis
Looking for scientists who wish to help with the project. Malcolm
Count me out. I‘ve got
burnt, TWICE. Then Malcolm perks up and grabs Regis by the arm. Malcolm (cont‘d)
I think you should meet someone. Oh and for the record, he has been wanting to go to that island for a long time. In 2002 he tried to get on there alone to study them, but failed. Government locked him up before he had a chance. Regis
I heard about that. The two gentlemen approach a man sat alone at a table. The man is Dr. Richard Levine, his collar is messy and his eyes dark from the lack of sleep. He slowly gets up and shakes Regis‘ hand. Levine
So who is this Malcolm my old friend? Malcolm
Although me and Levine disagree on a lot of things he‘s a damn good scientist. This is Ed Regis. Regis
Pleased to meet you. Levine
So whats up? Regis
I have a proposition for you. CUT TO. EXT. PUNTARENAS DOCKS, COSTÁ RICA The team walk onto the dock talking amongst themselves. The water rushing under the wooden panels. The air is thick as Regis goes over the trip with Alejandro the boat owner. Loading some equipment onto the boat is two of InGen‘s hired hunters dressed in hunting gear. Heavily built men named Sam and Jose, both in their forties. Levine walks up to the dock with his equipment in hand. He‘s late. The others turn and look at him. Levine Sorry I‘m late, delayed flight.
Dr. Jeremiah Fischer, fiftyish, approaches Levine,
and shakes his full hand. His eyes are wide behind some wire framed glasses. Fischer Dr. Levine I‘ve read about you.
Levine
Nothing bad I hope. Fischer
My names Jeremiah Fischer, biologist. A woman walks up to the men, Cathy Lawala, mid-thirties, palaeontologist, beautiful. The men stop talking as she approaches. Cathy
Dr. Levine, there were rumours you were dead. Levine
Reassuring, it‘s good to see you Cathy. How is the baby? Cathy
Grown up. Levine
I read your paper on dinosaur weight problems, based on fossil bone structures. Cathy
That one was more for the kids. But some dinosaurs may have over fed that was all I tried to get across, not many people saw it as an important find but it was, and still is. Levine
I agree. Regis walks over as Alejandro starts the boat‘s engines.
Regis
Alejandro wants to leave in five. Levine you‘re here! Everyone
Levine will be our leading scientist. CUT TO. OPEN SEA - DAY ON THE BOAT, Everyone looks at Levine who stands suddenly reading a book, he appears to be taking no notice of what is going on. Regis, Sam and Jose discuss target areas for research.
Wayne and the film crew are checking the camera batteries. Suddenly Wayne gets a call on his satellite phone. He heads to the back of the boat and answers.
Wayne
Hello? CUT TO. INT. TV OFFICES. Larry Brooke is walking through the busy news offices with a Phone in one hand and a suit case in another. Larry
Good work getting InGen on board. I‘ve received the pictures, priceless. I‘m I‘m beginning to forgive you. CUT TO. WAYNE ON BOAT. Wayne
Don‘t print, or announce anything yet. we‘ll reach the island soon. Then we‘ll film you a ten O‘ clock piece you won‘t forget. I‘ll uplink to the head office once we‘ve got the footage we need. FRONT OF THE BOAT. Dallas sits smoking on a pile of boxes, looking out to sea. Thorne approaches her and whispers in her ear. Thorne Don‘t you think we should mingle with our golden cast?
Dallas laughs with a quick exhale. She turns and looks at Regis with Sam and Jose. Dallas
You‘d think they‘d like us? Carl Henicks walks up to them with a grin on his face. He takes Dallas‘ cigarette and
inhales a breath. Henicks
Only one way to find out. He walks up to the three men and taps Jose on the shoulder. Henicks (cont‘d)
So are you guys prepared?
The two hunters look at Henicks. Their expressions are solid and stern. Regis mumbles to himself in the back ground not taking notice of the abrupt introduction of Henicks and Jose. Jose smiles and puts his hand on Henicks‘ shoulder. Jose‘s voice is deep and intimidating. Jose
Carl right? Henicks nods. Jose (cont‘d) If we‘re not pr epared you‘re going to die . So please go back over there and film us, do what you like, but don‘t talk to myself or Sam. Its distracting.
Henicks smiles, although he feels insulted. Jose turns back around and ignores the film crew. Henicks looks at Dallas and Thorne. They faces locked in a shocked expression. Thorne
Then lets film. The film crew pick up their cameras and turn them on. Wayne returns from the back of the boat. A smile on his face. Wayne We‘ve got the green
light from home base. Suddenly in the distance the island chain emerges from a thick layer of dense cloud. Monstrous mountains peek above the clouds as the island approaches fast. The boat chugs along, swaying heavily as the boat rocks against the crashing waves of the off shore ocean. DISSOLVE TO. EXT. ISLA SORNA, LAGOON - DAY Lush green plants drip everywhere in this verdant lagoon. in the distance the sound of the jungle birds echoes through the surrounding deep jungle. The boat is now beached and the TEAM flip a tarp off the large containers which stand in a trailer attached to a single large blue and grey InGen jeep. With markings similar to those seen on InGen helicopters. The word INGEN is written down both sides. The large jeep backs down a narrow ramp and onto the soft shore. The team stand and take in the lost world. The
team feels small against the giant foliage and trees that surround them. Nerves tingle, except for Levine who seems to be in his element. CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE TRAIL - DAY Levine is walking out in front, well in front of the team. The jeep purrs softly as alien sounds surround the tiny humans infiltrating the island. A small trickling stream runs down the trail they walk on. The sun beats hard through the gaps in the lush green canopy above, like tiny beams from heaven. Cathy hears a strange noise and holds back. She pauses looking into the jungle. Suddenly feeling alone she walks fast and catches up with Regis and the hunters. Regis is fiddling with a satellite navigation device. Cathy
(under her breath) I hate that we‘re relying
on technology. Regis You‘re a biologist you
need technology. Or are you scared? Cathy
A little, but on this Island is one of the biggest predators that ever lived. That‘s scary in my books. Suddenly a deep roar echoes through the jungle, close by. The sound of breaking branches and foliage is heard. Loud grunts follow and increase in volume. A dinosaur draws near. Jose & Sam drop low brandishing their rifles. In an instant their senses are alert to everything around them, perfect hunting machines. Sam
(under his breath) No one make a sound. Sam flicks the safety off on his rifle. The film crew begin to film, focusing on the trees all around. Suddenly far up the trail the trees crash down. Leaves and branches fall hard on the muddy floor. Birds squawk loudly as something big moves through the trail. Cathy starts to look around in fear. Cathy
I hate field work. The team try to get a look, but fallen branches are in the way. Sam & Jose point their rifles to the animal moving in front of them. Another loud roar is heard as the animal moves off. Levine takes off in a sprint, chasing the animal or animals. In frustration Regis calls out, his voice echoing through the jungle. Regis
Levine get back here! Levine doesn‘t listen.
Wayne smiles. Wayne
You get that Dallas? Dallas
Sure did boss. CUT TO. EXT. UNDERGROWTH - DAY Levine, far from the team now, crouches behind a fallen tree trunk. His hands shake in excitement as he pulls out a water bottle and takes a sip. Levine
Where are you? His eyes frantically search the opening in front of him. Smashed branches surround him, and shafts of sun light penetrate the canopy granting a god like views of the jungle. A large animal lurks somewhere in front. Then he sees it. A single Triceratops, female, munching on the ferns. Levine smiles in delight, his eyes water, hes finally on the Island, studying the animals he loves. Beautiful. Then another triceratops appears, and another. The three huge animals wander about smashing the plants beneath them. The sounds of the animals echoing through the jungle. He pulls out a digital SLR and begins to take photos. CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE TRAIL – DAY The rest of the team gather around a map that is spread across the jeeps hood. Regis points to a large rise in numbers on the map that represent the islands varying altitudes. Regis
Right here is a medical unit that can be used, but according to the reports filed by Malcolm & Grant the
raptors have nesting grounds situated at two of the other locations similar to this, deeper within the jungle. (points to other areas on the map.) Now we‘re going to have to run
a risk of checking this site out. If it‘s clear we can use
Its medical facilities to help with the research. Set up a nest of our own. Sam
Each species of raptor on this Island is extremely intelligent. Don‘t underestimate them. If we encounter them, please refrain from any fast movements, stand straight and watch every degree around you. Cathy Each species of raptor?
Regis
Yes, we bred a raptor for the park that differs from others on this island. Its subtle differences but they are unique in their own way. But both live here and have their own territories. Like a kind of gang war. The team stand back from the hood of the jeep. Fischer
How far is this medical unit? Sam
Only a mile or so. Regis
I believe it has equipment for our film crew to use so they can charge any batteries, and set up a link to their news channel. Dallas
Well we have backups but a chance to recharge the old ones would be great. Suddenly Levine runs back over, out of breath and sweaty. Levine
My god! A herd of triceratops! If you want good footage of them now now is the best time.
CUT TO. EXT. UNDERGROWTH - DAY Jose stays with the jeep as the Cathy, Fischer, the film crew and Levine slowly creep through the lush foliage to the clearing. Sam and Regis move through the jungle metres away from the group, keeping an eye out for trouble. Low deep sounds are heard coming from the clearing ahead. The film crew quickly set up. The cameras start rolling. Levine
Three females, it appears As if the Trikes have the same structural bond as lions. I Spotted a male earlier but he moved off. Ready for TV gold. Levine pulls back a group of leaves to see the clearing. It‘s empty.
Wayne
Shit. The film crew lower their cameras in disappointment. Regis and Sam stand up at the opposite side of the clearing. Regis
Well that was productive. Shall we get moving?
CUT TO. EXT. Grassy hills, open plains - DAY The team are in the jeep as it bumps over the misty terrain. The air is thick with moisture, the sky grey and dull, the open plain is empty and eerie. Like something from a dream. Levine stands with binoculars, looking out over the plains. Fischer
Did the animals seem weak or disorientated at all? Levine
Not at all. It‘s a shame they moved off, remarkable creatures. Someone must have made a sound. Would have got some five star footage there, (facing the film crew) for your documentary. Regis It‘s not safe running off alone, if
anything was to happen this whole
thing would come undone. Doctor let‘s set up base camp before we run off into the jungle after these things. Levine doesn‘t answer, he stare s blankly through the
binoculars over the plains. Regis looks at the scientist annoyed. The film crew holds on tightly to the frame of the jeep as it bounces along the uneven ground. Thorne
Beautiful Island isn‘t it? Levine Breathtaking, it‘s hard to believe that we‘re on the
same planet. These indigenous plants are almost prehistoric themselves. (Levine pulls a leaf off a nearby tree) Wow! Look Cathy, Fischer, a species of Cycadeoidea. This is incredible. incredible. The Plants are prehistoric prehistoric too. Cathy and Fischer, take the leaf and start talking about it. Levine smiles and begins to search the open plain again. The others don‘t pay attention to the group of scientists who
seem to be like children in a toy shop. A loud deep roar is heard in the distance, Levine starts to look around frantically trying to find the source, but it never emerges. Disappointed he sits down and examines the leaf Cathy has in her hands. CUT TO. EXT. RUINED BUILDINGS, RIDGE - DAY Lush green plants open up to a clearing, with a drop view of tree tops. The medical unit is a small collection of bunkers which were used to maintain animal health. Not far from the medical unit is a ruined helicopter landing pad, complete with a group of buildings, unrecognisable, as the jungle grows over them. Tennis courts are still visible too but plants cover the torn nets and courts, a settlement long deceased. A perimeter fence surrounds the entire series of buildings which is all powered from a generator situated down a trail leading off from the buildings. The team have pulled up near the medical unit, and begin to unpack their gear. Sam and Jose run off into the jungle to find the generator and begin to power up the unit. The scientists walk around and inspect the builds, along with Regis, who walks slowly up to the door of one of the bunkers.
Fischer
Sounds like no-ones home. Cathy
I hate to say it but its too quiet around here. Regis
Just stick close. Regis wipes out a pistol and opens a door. With a loud creak the door opens and the team enters the bunker. CUT TO. RUINED CONTROL ROOM Regis and the team move quietly through the rooms of the bunker, eyes are wide and alert. The rooms are full of computer consoles and tables covered in moss and debris. The entire floor is covered in plant life. Levine pushes through the team and walks carefully to a door that is slightly ajar. Regis moves up behind him with a pistol, hammer pulled back. Levine pushes the door and Regis points his gun forward nothing. The group exhale in relief. Levine You‘re right Cat hy no one
is home. Suddenly the lights violently come on. The group look around and smile. Regis
Good we have power. CUT TO. INT. RUINED BUILDINGS, RIDGE – DUSK The group have unloaded their equipment and film crew have already filmed hours of footage of them preparing. The medical unit is up and running, tables cleared, new equipment installed. Sam sits behind a computer watching loading bars and InGen logos spin, as he waits for the systems to react to each other. Jose approaches him from behind. Jose
How long until we can get the x-ray generator working from our hub? Sam I‘d say about an hour.
Jose
(under his breath) And the tracking systems? The com-link to the
others? Sam
Two. Jose
Good work. CUT TO. EXT - RUINED BUILDINGS, RIDGE – DUSK The rest of the group are gathered around the island map. The film crew are standing nearby filming the group as well as the surrounding area, to establish where the base camp is for the show. Levine
So where do we start? Regis points to an area on the map a few miles south of the camp. Regis
Well from our sources the only way a raptor, for example would end at Costá Rica would be if it keeled over by a river and was sucked out to the mainland. This riverbed here near the boat house would be a good place to start. Fischer
A lot of animals will be there. Very dangerous.
Regis Well it‘s not entirely in
the centre of the island where the carnivores territory is mainly situated. Fischer
Who said anything about carnivores? The sun begins to fade as an orange glow sets over the island. The sounds of jungle insects begin to be heard. Regis folds up the map. Regis
Look people this is what was going to happen, I need everyone to be on top form, and don‘t worry, Jose and Sam have brought the necessary fast acting rifles that will protect your backs. Now the bunkers
have dormitories which have been cleaned and got new bedding in them, so let‘s have a good nights rest and we can begin tomorrow.
CUT TO. INT. BUNKER, CONTROL ROOM – NIGHT Jose sits in front of a computer. The glow of the screen hits hard against his face. He sips on a cup of coffee as the computer beeps and receives a message. Jose sits forward and sets his coffee down. On the screen reads: MESSAGE RECIVED FROM BSYN-IND CREW ARRIVED 100 HRS BEFORE INGEN TEAM. DX RUMOUR IN PLACE, PAID OFFI. SABOTAGE TO BE INITIATED IMMEDIATELY. L. DODGSON.
Jose looks around and clicks reply. He begins to write when all of a sudden someone enters the room, Levine. Jose quickly switches the computer off and smiles, picking up his coffee. Levine yawns and stretches, surprised to see Jose. Levine Sam‘s shift over?
Jose No he‘s outside.
Levine You think it‘s safe for
him to be out there alone? Jose We‘re paid to be safe. We‘re prepared for anything.
Levine
Your computer okay? Jose spins around to see the screen flashing. Somehow the computer is restarting. He quickly whacks the screen off at the back and turns smiling at Levine. Levine shoots an odd look at Jose. Jose
(changing the subject) Are you excited about tomorrow? Levine One hundred percent, I‘m here to study their behaviour. I‘ve already
discovered the Triceratops family structure, which is a phenomenal find.
I would very much like to study them some more, so I can write a complete record of how they bond. Jose
Well is a make make
remember Doctor this dangerous place, just sure your discoveries it home.
Levine stares at Jose as he checks the back of his computer, fiddling with some wires. Levine
Yeah. CUT TO. EXT. ROAD - DAY The jeep bounces along an uneven road leading down to the riverbed. The scientists are in the back taking photos, while Dallas and Thorne film them. Regis sits up front with Jose whose driving. Regis
Now when we find a place to Stop the vehicle I want everyone To stay together and don‘t
wander off. Levine. Levine
Hey Jose, I thought Sam was Coming along to protect us? Jose doesn‘t answer.
Regis
Hes staying behind to fix A faulty link to the mainland. Henicks and Wayne are with him. Levine But doesn‘t it make more
Sense for him to be with us? Jose
I have weapons, and a keen eye, you‘re more than saf e doctor. Levine doesn‘t like the hired protectors cocky
attitude towards their abilities to protect but there is nothing he can do, he sits back, disgruntled. Suddenly Jose slams on the breaks, the jeep comes to a halt under a large group of tall trees that have thin trunks that spiral towards the heavens. Ahead of them is a large body of an animal. The sun beams shine brightly over its dark grey skin and huge spine that raises from its back.
It lays there motionless, possibly asleep. Cathy
Spinosaurus, incredible. Thorne and Dallas burst to life grabbing the camera and pointing it towards the animal. Thorne
Just for the record Cathy what classification did you say this animal was? Cathy
It‘s a Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus found in 1915, one of the largest predators to ever walk the earth. Thorne And how‘d you spell that?
Cathy
Here take this. She takes a notepad and quick scrawls the name out, then she hands it to the film crew. Thorne
Thanks, you getting this Dallas? Dallas
You bet. Jose switches the engines off he jumps out of the jeep and pulls out a Rangemaster .50 from the back. Jose
Stay here. Jose crouches low in amongst the tall ferns that surrounds the base of the tree trunks. He flicks the safety off the rifle and begins wide circles around the huge body of the animal. The group watch as the tiny man disappears behind the foliage. Levine
(whispering) Regis. Regis
Yeah Levine
How did Jose get Involved with this? Regis
Hes a contract, game warden.
He works mainly from Kenya but hes was a consultant years back for a rival company. I guess he likes the idea that InGen has given him the best of both worlds. We‘ve paid him to safe guard us, but hes also promised a position with the Ccmpany, permanently, if this turns out as well as promised. Levine rubs his head concerned. Suddenly Jose yells from across the jungle. Jose It‘s alright come on over!
CUT TO. Close up to the Spinosaurus, dead. It‘s body is practically a skeleton.
Huge bones are exposed with hardly any flesh on them. The group move closer to the animal, covering their mouths. The film crew walk up the animal and begin shooting different angles. For a moment Dallas stops and stares at the huge carcass. Thorne takes in the a deep breath, they had never seen something so big. Thorne
My god. Dallas
Jesus. Fischer approaches. Fischer It‘s dead.
Jose Really? How‘d you guess?
Levine
From natural causes to. Something big took this down. Cathy It‘s been dead for at
least three days, you can see from the interior of the belly, it‘s all gone. scavenged. Fischer
My god this animal was huge. Smells bad too. Regis
Are you positive it went down fighting doctor? Levine
I‘m pretty sure Ed .
Regis looks at Levine with an odd look, after he calls him by his first name. Levine (cont‘d)
You see that the lacerations down its bulk are the same colour as its skin, they‘ve both rotted at the same time. Cathy
Maybe another predator took It down when it was weak? Fischer
If I take a sample I can make sure of it, if I find any trace of the virus we‘ll know that these bites and scratches are from after the animal went down. Regis
Then lets get one and head to the river. The group start to head back to the jeep after the sample is taken. Levine stands next to the spinosaurus carcass, in awe. The jeep pulls up next to him. Regis
Get in! Levine
Extraordinary. Levine climbs into the jeep whilst taking photos of the dead animal. Levine
Magnificent. It‘s a shame It wasn‘t alive.
Cathy
A great shame. CUT TO. EXT. RIVER EDGE - DAY The group move away from the jeep that sits hidden under a large group of trees. Jose leads them with Regis as the sound of rushing water increases in volume. Levine‘s face
radiates with excitement as they push through the foliage onto the edge of a large river. The water rushes past creating large pools of frothy white
rapids. The branches of the trees hang low over the water. A few hundred metres down the river a herd of Parasaurolophus gather eating the ferns from the tops of the smaller trees. One is eating the plant life from a sharp cliff face the opposite side of the river. A Brachiosaur is seen looming over the tree tops in the distance. The team keeps low and start to move towards a rundown boat house. Its metal structure is corroding and cover in plants but the team manage to open the door and get inside, watching the animals from a distance. The scientists pull out binoculars and notepads and begin to study, whilst the film crew begin to shoot. Thorne
Pan up from the animal‘s legs. Regis and Jose huddle towards the back of the room. Regis
See if you can establish an uplink to the medical unit so we can stay in contact with Sam and the others. Keep our phones battery up high. Jose
Okay but remember this building is trash. Just look at it. Regis
Try, please. Regis walks over to the others. Regis (cont‘d) Incredible aren‘t they? Dallas
This is breathtaking. Thorne
This footage will be worth some. No one really has anything like this, nothing close. Cathy, Fischer and Levine mumble to each other to one side. Their hands rapidly writing notes, their facing gleaming with excitement, as they watch the huge Brachiosaur and Parasaurolophus herd through slats in the boat house wall. Regis approaches them, and kneels down to look through the low slats. Regis
Anything unusual? Fischer
Not my end.
Cathy
Ditto. Levine
Have the Parasaurolophus always been prone to infections from their tags? Regis suddenly becomes confused, tags? Regis
Not to my knowledge. Levine
Not even during your time at Jurassic Park? Regis I‘m a public relations
officer, I never went to the park. The closest I got was to make sure reports were signed and read by the victims And co-workers, in Costá Rica. Never saw the animals. Levine
Were you aware of any animal tags? Regis thinks hard. Regis If I‘m not mistaken the
tags were attached to the young here on Site B but removed once taken into their correct paddocks, on Isla Nublar. Regis looks through the binoculars Levine hands him, and notices tags attached from the hind legs of two of the animals, one male one female. The tags are bright orange bolts, forced to grip on the animals skin. Numbers line the tags but through the goggles the numbers are un-readable. Regis (cont‘d)
There not our tags, and besides if they were they would have fallen out by now. Cathy
They shouldn‘t be there at all. None of those animals are over ten years old, a herd of young. I can faintly see the adults behind them
in the jungle. Jose stares at a console, but its screen is blank. The room is dead. Jose
Well apart from the satellite phones, home base won‘t know what we‘re doing. Regis
They know I briefed them on everything and when to expect our return. Jose oddly appears annoyed by Regis sudden retort. Levine stands up. Levine
We need to get one of those tags. Dallas swings the camera onto the scientists. Regis
Are you insane why? Levine
Someone tagged those animals, recently, and for a reason. it may be linked to this virus. Regis That‘s ridiculous and crazy,
what makes you so sure? Fischer They didn‘t tag themselves.
Regis shoots a look at Fischer. CUT TO. EXT. FOREST EDGE - DAY Levine, Regis and Fischer move forward through the dense foliage, as they move away from the river towards the lumbering beasts. Cathy hangs back with Jose and the film crew, who needed a lot of persuasion not to follow them. The three men are nervous except Levine whose concern weighs towards Jose. Levine
Regis you hired this guy to protect us and all he‘s doing is hanging back. Regis He‘s scoped out the more
aggressive animals, like the dominate male and the matriarch. If they have one. Trust me he‘ll watch our backs. He doesn‘t need to be close. Fischer
How do we get one? The three men halt and look around, thinking of something. How were they to pluck a device from an animal whose leg was taller than a man. But luckily for them the tags were located not far from the knee, about the height of a man. It was getting the tag that proved to be difficult. The men think hard then Levine suddenly clicks his fingers. Levine We‘ll have to pull it off
with our hands. If you look their only about the size of a plate. And tags don‘t dig deep, shouldn‘t be too hard. Regis
Ridiculous, that is suicide, we could get Jose to shoot it off. Fischer
That would scare off the animals Levine Then we‘d have no tag. As a scientist I wouldn‘t
allow it. Regis
Shit, and how aggressive do you think this animal is? Because if anythi — Levine Don‘t worry Ed this animal probably won‘t know the tag
is being removed. Just lure its attention away from its leg. Regis rubs his stubble in frustration. Ed, there It was again. But Levine was right, the only way of getting the unknown tag was to pull it off with their bare hands. It was a stupid idea but it was the only way. Regis
Okay I guess one of us has to nominate ourselves. Levine
I‘ll do it.
Regis
So quick too. Levine It‘s my idea.
Fischer
You just like the closeness. Levine
And that. Come on. Levine moves forward. Levine (cont‘d)
Distract their attention whilst I sneak up and grab the tag. Shouldn‘t take more than a second. Regis and Fischer move to the front of the young tagged female, keeping low between the ferns and other plants. Levine checks to see if any other Parasaurolophus are nearby; the other hadrosaurs are close but not facing the men. Levine moves out from the ferns onto a clear patch of ground. The ground is covered in flattened foliage from the giants that trample over it. Close now Levine signals the others to stand making themselves known. They get up suddenly. A nearby Brachiosaur looks down but doesn‘t move, it appears to be unshaken by the tiny men who jump and whistle trying to grab the animal‘s attention. The Parasaurolophus continues to eat leafs. It looks up, a branch in its mouth gets chewed up. Regis notices how dumb the animal looks, but it doesn‘t flee.
Levine approaches the huge leg of the Parasaurolophus, it‘s enormous, Levine‘s heart races, he had never been so close to such a
magnificent creature. His hands start to sweat as he reaches slowly for the tag. Up close the numbers are clearly visible, 000201, its bright orange shell illuminates in the mid-day sun. His hand clasp the tag when all of a sudden the Parasaurolophus honks loudly, deafening the men, Levine turns to see an alpha male thundering towards the other two. Regis and Fischer see this and begin to run. Regis
This was very bad idea! Fischer
RUN! The male powers through the huge trees like matchsticks, creating a thunderous sound that echoes all around.
Levine is nowhere to be seen. The two men flee, but the male gains on them so quickly it tramples over them. Regis jumps between two fallen trees, and yells in a panic as the animal lumbers over him. Fischer runs as fast as he can, he can clearly see the river edge when something hard and heavy strikes him in the back. The male kicks him, the air rushes from his body, his face hits the ground. Regis looks up and expects to hear a gunshot from Jose but nothing. The alpha male turns and runs back through the jungle, the rest of the herd crashes through the trees moving away. Regis gets up dusting off his clothes. Fischer moans loudly, metres away. Regis runs over. Fischer rolls over in agony, his head is cut, his arm bleeding heavily. Regis kneels down and helps him up. He wraps a ripped piece of clothing around Fischer‘s arm. Regis
Fischer are you okay? Fischer
(wounded) I think a few ribs are cracked, what happened? Regis
The male ran over, hit you. You‘re lucky to— Fischer
No with Jose, where was Jose? He should have shot. Regis looks up to see no one, Jose and Cathy were gone. along with the film crew. A sudden fear sets in. Suddenly Levine walks out from a group of trees. Regis‘ anger ris es suddenly. Regis
PULL IT OFF WITH YOUR HANDS! Levine
It was the only way. Regis notices the tag under Levine‘s right arm . Regis
Your stupid idea nearly got Fischer here killed! What were you thinking?! What was I thinking?! Levine Ed it‘s—
Regis
STOP calling me Ed. It‘s Regis! You‘ve lost
the privilege to use my first name, we‘re heading back. Fischer slowly gets up and leans on Regis‘ shoulder.
Levine
Well before we go look at this. Levine hands Regis the tag, Regis takes it with a quick swipe. Levine (cont‘d)
On the back. Regis turns it over and sees a logo which reads BIOSYN. Regis recognises this logo all too well. Regis
My god.
CUT TO. INT. BOAT HOUSE - DAY Levine, Regis and Fischer enter the boat house. Regis carries Fischer with one arm over the shoulder. The boat house is empty Apart from destroyed equipment; the film crews cameras and sound equipment. No one can been seen. Levine slams his fist against a wall. Levine
GOD! I suspected that bastard of something ever since last night. Regis
Who? Levine
Jose, he was up late acting odd after I walked into the control room. I could tell a message was on the screen but I didn‘t
catch it. Fischer
(sounding weak) What is Bio-Syn? Regis pauses for a moment, recalling the past. Regis
Biosyn or Bio-synthetics is a rival Company of InGen. During the 70s they worked with us to forward our research,
help breed cures for diseases, so the animals could get vaccines once they were born, but in 1981 the company dropped their contract and left. they got a new CEO and became a company who wallow in what we‘d call ―reverse engineering.‖ Levine
Whats that? Regis
They take a competitor‘s product tear it apart, learn about it, then they make it their own. It was their very company who got under the skin of InGen‘s
own to bring down Jurassic Park. but they never got what they wanted, and nothing was ever taken to court. Levine
Why was that? Regis
Not enough evidence to prove it was them. But we knew, they were the only ones exploring the potential of bioengineering on this scale. Levine
So do you know anything about what these tags are? Regis
No. Levine
I think I know who might. Regis
Jose. CUT TO. EXT. ROAD - DAY Levine, Regis and Fischer are walking slowly up the road, heading back to where the jeep was left. The road seems steeper than they remember, The dirt and plants become difficult to walk over and more than a few times Fischer needed to be put down. Then suddenly they see the jeep. The film crew are sat inside with Cathy, like statues. Jose is nowhere to be seen. The three men duck down. Their eyes scan the jungle around them. Suddenly Jose appears from behind the jeep, carrying his rifle. He appears to be barking orders at the others.
Regis
What is he doing? Levine
You said yourself he used to work for a rival company. Regis
Yep, but I never knew It was Biosyn. Fischer
What do we do? Levine
We take him down, get answers. Regis
Not another stupid idea, think of something. Levine There‘s nothing else, look They‘re about t o leave.
Fischer suddenly gets up and yells. Fischer
Hey! Where are you going! Regis
Get down! Fischer
Sorry but I need to get back to medical. I‘ll take my chances.
Jose swings the rifle around and slowly creeps towards the men. Regis and Levine get up slowly, with their hands up. Levine drops the tag. Hearts begin to race, Regis and Levine had never had a gun pointed at them before and now they had a gun in their face, on a island full of dangerous animals. It couldn‘t get any worse. Jose
Keep your hands where they are! Don‘t move! Head towards the truck. The three men slowly walk towards the jeep and get in. Cathy and the others have fear in their eyes. Tears roll down Cathy‘s face, Dallas and Thorne look surprisngly calm. A rumbling is heard from up the road.
Jose (cont‘d)
No one breathe. Then from out of nowhere a dark green jeep with the words Biosyn stencilled down the side rolled up. Two heavy set men jump out wearing dark blue Biosyn uniforms, and another hawk faced man steps out in dark attire. Regis recognised him immediately. Regis
(whispers) Dodgson?! Lewis Dodgson was one of the most aggressive geneticist of his time, or the most reckless. Early fifties, balding and intense. His behaviour and mannerisms had been sour for years, ever since Biosyn‘s failure to obtain the vital embryos from Nedry all those years ago. But luck for him it was never made public, he kept his job. The other two men held back holding pistols. Lewis walked up to the InGen jeep, taking off a pair of Ray Ban sun glasses. He smiles at the group in the truck. Dodgson I‘m sorry we had to
meet like this people but your arrival has been, unwelcomed by myself and the company. Regis You don‘t represent the
company. You go out and make choices without getting the signed permission. Levine
You know this guy? Regis
A little. Dodgson seems surprised. Dodgson
Ro-R-Re-Regis? Am I Correct? Public relations officer for InGen. Nice to see our friends are dropping in on us. Regis
What are you doing here Dodgson? What‘s going on?
Dodgson
Conversations can wait Regis, lets head to your camp. CUT TO. EXT. RUINED BUILDINGS, RIDGE - DAY The Biosyn jeep rolls up. Dodgson jumps out followed by one of the Biosyn men. This is shortly followed by the InGen jeep driven by Jose, while the Biosyn member guards the captured team. The team slowly get out with their hands on their heads. Dodgson and Jose walk into the medical unit. The two Biosyn members stand with their pistols aimed at the team. Suddenly from one of the nearby bunkers Sam walks out, his head is bruised. Dodgson and Jose return and spot the wounded man. Jose
What happened Sam? Sam
Henicks and Wayne are gone. Dodgson
How did this happen? Sam
I tried to contain them But they overpowered me. I managed to shoot Henicks In the stomach so that could slow them down. Dallas and Thorne low their heads. Their friends Might be dead. Jose
Idiot. Dodgson
Well we must act quickly. Dodgson turns and smiles at the team. He walks up to them and strips them of phones and other equipment. He finds Levine‘s notepad and rips it up.
Jose heads inside the medical unit with Sam. Regis
This is low Dodgson Dodgson walks up to Regis and nods. Dodgson
Well some would say that but it‘s all just business. Biosyn have the rights to be here, we have affiliations
in the Costá Rican government, You understand we‘re just doing
work. Suddenly the medical unit goes up in flames. Jose and Sam walk out pouring fuel as they go. Levine
What are you doing? What‘s with the tags? Dodgson We‘re just marking
what is ours, when we return we‘ll take
the parts of those animals we need in order to discover the valuable products that lay within their makeup. Regis
What products? Dodgson
Heart attack enzymes, STD cures, cancer cures anything! No one has made public the potential of dinosaur flesh. Dallas
And how are you going to work with contaminated goods? Dodgson I guess you‘re talking
about the DX virus? Levine
I has a name? Dodgson strides up and down near the jeeps. He reaches in a pulls out a list. Handing it to Jose and Sam. Dodgson
Just run by how many products are left to tag. Regis
So there is a virus? Dodgson
Is there? Because as far as I‘m aware we made it up and paid a few official underdogs to create a rumour. Thorne
But we saw a dead raptor, the veterinary hospital in
San Jose confirmed a virus. Dodgson
Really? Well that was the cherry on the cake. Regis
Why Dodgson? Dodgson We didn‘t want t o be
disturbed by anyone while our work went on. This is going to take a while, so we needed the island condemned. Cathy My god it‘s all a lie.
Dodgson
Business is war. Levine
Well you underestimated the situation. Dodgson
How so? Levine We‘re here.
Dodgson face drops, his eyes move rapidly as his malicious mind begins to work. He walks over to the Biosyn jeep and pulls out what looks like a fuel canister. He walks over to the team and opens the top. Dodgson
Christopher. One of the uniformed men walks up. His face is unsympathetic and solid. A man who must have been in prison at least once. Christopher takes the canister from Dodgson and nods. He lifts The can high and pours the thick crimson liquid out onto the team. Dodgson stands back and lights a cigarette with he pulls from a pocket. Regis
What the hell! Dodgson It‘s modified hadro saur
blood, makes the carnivores on this island go nuts. Levine
Modified?
Dodgson
Malodorous and hard to wash off, that‘ll last for days.
Its designed to attract one species in particular. The team stand soaked, scared and confused. Dodgson Jose, Sam and the two uniforms walk to the Biosyn jeep and climb in. Dodgson (cont‘d)
Tyrannosaur. Regis
Jesus Dodgson
Their nesting grounds aren‘t too far from here, so they‘ll pick up your scent
well, now. The wind moves fast up here. Now we can‘t let you go,
telling people about our little project so, you enjoy your stay. And with a quick smile Dodgson shuts the door to the jeep. The Biosyn jeep reverses and turns, Jose stands out of the top with his rifle and shoots the tires of the other jeep. The situation turns from bad to worse right in front of their eyes. Jose It‘s nothing personal
but they pay checks are far superior. The jeep pulls away with a trail of dust behind it. Immediately Thorne violently grabs Regis‘ collar pushing him to the ground. Levine and Dallas grab Thorne‘s arms to hold
him back. Thorne
You stupid son of a bitch! You‘ve sold our lives to a undertaking you didn‘t under
stand. You did not check the activities of a man whom you knew worked for a rival company. Regis I‘m not responsible for his—
Thorne
The Hell. Your company hired him, permitting that man to screw around with the most dangerous technology in human history, I‘d say you‘re
pretty responsible.
Regis
There was no evidence to condemn him. His signed contact stated his actions were to be honourable, under punishment of arrest. Dallas helps Regis to his feet. Dallas
Stop blaming each other. Jose obviously doesn‘t care about the contract, Regis couldn‘t have
predicted this. Levine is stood looking out over the jungle. Levine
Malcolm Effect. Thorne looks at Levine and shakes his head. kicks some dirt in frustration. Dallas
So what are we going to do?
DISSOLVE TO. INT. BUNKER, CONTROL ROOM - DAY Regis and Dallas are frantically looking for anything to use to communicate with the mainland. Pulling up computers opening boxes, and checking old phones, nothing. In another room Levine, Cathy, Thorne, and Fischer try to get the taps working to wash off the blood, nothing. Suddenly a door is heard being opened from the other side of the bunker. Regis and Dallas freeze, wondering what it could be, only to breathe a sigh of relief to see Wayne stubble in to the room. Limping slightly he smiles. Wayne
Hello there. Regis Wayne! You‘re okay.
Wayne
Barely. Dallas
Where is Henicks?
Wayne shakes his head. Carl Henicks is dead. Dallas face drops as she realises the news. Wayne
He was shot by — — Regis We know, they‘re out there
Jose and Sam are with them. They‘ve destroyed the medical
unit and trashed this bunker. Dallas
Not to mention covering us in blood that will attract the predators of this island. The others enter the room. Thorne smiles to see Wayne alive. Levine walks up to Regis. Levine We‘ve got to move, this stuff isn‘t com ing off.
Regis
And where too? We‘re left with nothing.
This whole thing, as Cheung predicted was a failure. Levine
They left one thing. Regis
What? Levine holds up a map of Isla Sorna with marked locations on it. CUT TO. EXT. BUNKER, RIDGE - DAY The team stand around the map which is sprawled across the hood of the now flat InGen jeep, trying to work out what to do. The blood on their shirts is still moist, not drying from the harsh humid temperatures of the island. The medical unit in the distance burns slowly to the ground, thick smoke rising into the air above like an erupting volcano. The group start to raise their voices as they argue over where to go. Levine stands to one side looking around the forest. He hears a strange noise of in the distance, like roar or thunder. He turns and approaches the squabbling group. Levine
Okay people be quiet! This smoke won‘t cover
the smell of our clothes, we‘ve got to get moving.
Dallas
Where do you suppose we go? Regis perks up and points to a marking on the map, a long thin rectangle. Regis
There is a airfield about four miles from here, it‘s open easy to get to. A rescue team could pick us up there. Wayne There won‘t be a rescue if we can‘t call nobody.
Regis Then we‘re screwed And InGen‘s in a whole heap of — —
Levine We‘re going to have to
chase them down. Regis
Them who? Dodgson and Jose? Levine nods. Levine
Get our satellite phones back. It‘s the only way. Thorne
Thats mad. Cathy We can‘t do that.
Levine
If we want off this island and fast we need our phones Back. If anyone‘s got any better suggestions, I‘d I‘d be happy to hear them but I‘m I‘m getting our phones back, then calling help. Regis
But they could be anywhere by now, they‘re in a jeep and have access to the old roads that run the course of this Island.
Levine Then we‘re going to have to
patch up the tires on this jeep and find them before they‘re finished. Regis
Look at it Levine the jeeps trashed. Wayne I know where they‘re heading.
Levine
Where? Wayne
I got to see the same list of tagged animals when you guys were out, I thought it looked strange and alerted Henicks to my suspicion and thats when Sam turned on us and well, you know. Regis
Where are they heading? Wayne
Crest of the Fallen. Dallas
So how do we get to them fast enough? If we don‘t have a jeep. No one says anything as they think hard. Then Regis looks up and smiles. CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE - DUSK The team move through the dense undergrowth. Pushing past leafs and ducking under thick branches. Regis walks out in front with Levine and Dallas, who each are carrying fuel cans. Regis If I‘m not mistaken ,
in a report of the 97 incidents the InGen party lost their base camp when the animals trashed their camp. In that report I remember reading something about jeeps and trucks being there, maybe, just possibly there might be one there. Dallas
And that is why we‘re bringing this fuel?
Regis
Precisely. The others tag along behind keeping a keen eye on the jungle around them. Thorne
How are you holding up Fischer? Fischer
It hurts to breathe, I don‘t wanna die here.
Thorne
Hey I never made plans for that either. I imagined it doing a report in the Middle East, get shot, usual stuff. If you told me a month ago I was going to be here, I‘d laughed at you. Wayne One of life‘s funny turns.
FRONT OF GROUP Dallas
You do realise its going to be dark very soon? I‘m scared. Regis looks at the map Regis Don‘t worry, its only another Mile or so —
A huge roar is heard from the jungle, the undisputable sound of a tyrannosaur. The group stop for a moment, frozen solid with fear. It sounds again from behind them, towards the medical centre. Levine Come on let‘s get moving.
CUT TO. EXT. DESTROYED INGEN CAMP - NIGHT Dallas and Levine put the fuel canisters down as the team stumble across InGen‘s destroyed camp. Smashed tents and
equipment lay everywhere. Burnt vehicles and cages are dotted around the area. But no unharmed jeep is in sight. Thorne, Cathy, Wayne and Fischer sit down to rest. Regis, Levine and Dallas wander about to look for a working vehicle. After a moment of quiet Dallas yells for the others. They run over to see an old Mercedes Unimog, covered in plants looking very run down and rusty.
Levine shakes his head. Levine
This thing still going to work? Regis looks into the cabin and sees keys in the ignition. He pulls them out and shuts the door. Regis
Well it needs a couple of new tires. But theres plenty of spares here. Should hopefully work if the fuel is right. CUT TO. Fuel being poured into the truck. Regis sits in the cabin ready to start the engine. A fire has been started by the others to keep warm and grant light to help Regis and Dallas get the truck working. Dallas plugs up the fuel hatch and taps the side of the truck. Dallas
Start it up! With sudden jolt and bang the engine starts to whir, then it dies. Regis starts it again and the motor coughs again. Smoke bellows out from the back of the truck but then as if it were a miracle the truck starts. The team smile and thank heaven that the truck works. Regis leans out from the window. Regis
Thank god. Regis turns the engine off to help the others get in when suddenly the ground shakes, everyone pauses. Wayne
What is that? A deep rhythmic rumble is heard, slowly at first but increases in volume. The team slowly walk around the camp, looking all around them. The sound of breaking branches and trees echoes all around them. Rythmic ripples appear in a nearby puddle. Thorne grabs Fischer by the arm helping him into the truck. Cathy, and Wayne Climb into the back. Regis, Levine and Dallas slowly Back to the truck and climb into the cabin. Regis gets Behind the wheel but doesn‘t start the engine.
Then the sounds stop. Silence sets in, the sound of the jungle return, but the team stay frozen. Whatever is out
there is still there. Nothing. Suddenly rising out from the treetops a huge head rises. A ferocious looking tyrannosaur smells the air. Levine shakes his head in disbelief. Levine
Jesus. The huge tyrannosaur pushes out through the trees. It‘s body is dark brown in colouration, with dark patches
around the eyes. Its knife like teeth almost glowing from the fires orange flames.
Levine
(whispers) Forty five foot long, female. Head alone must weigh close to a ton. Regis
Quiet! Cathy
My god. Its nose sniffs the ground, following where the team had been moments before. It slowly gets closer to the truck. Levine leans slowly towards Regis. Levine You‘ve got to drive.
Regis
No. Levine
She is going to find us. Regis
Christ. The Rex slowly walks towards the truck. Regis hands shake as he grips the keys. The animals head sniffs the hood of the Truck and the front tires, then it drops Its head and sniffs the ground moving away from the truck. Regis turns the keys, the engine roars, as Does the tyrannosaur who swings around and Snaps at the truck as Regis slams his foot Down on the accelerator speeding off down a road. The tyrannosaur gives chase. CUT TO. ROAD - NIGHT REGIS‘ HAND FLI CKS ON THE TRUCK LIGHTS.
The tyrannosaur lumbers quickly behind the truck. Its bellowing roars deafening the team, who yell in panic as the leviathan gains on them. The road is bumpy and dangerous. Regis avoids the fallen trees and debris, the unpredictable wild jungle. His vision is somewhat limited by the dim truck lights. Wayne
Faster! Faster! Levine
Step on it! Cathy
No! Regis I‘m I‘m trying.
Dallas spots another road that sharply turns right. She points to it. Dallas
Turn there! Regis swings the steering wheel right, the truck nearly tips as it slides right. The Rex tries to follow but slides into a tree, slowing it dramatically. It gives out an enormous roar before giving up the chase. The team in the back of the truck watch as it disappears into the distance. They exhale in relief, as the truck bounces down the road. Regis flexes his hands after gripping the wheel so tightly. He turns to Levine and Dallas. Regis
Phew. CUT TO. EXT. CLIFF TOP - NIGHT The team take a breather near the edge of a cliff, it looks over a large portion of jungle, that tree tops come close to the top of the cliff. The sky is clear of cloud, except the tops of the mountains in the distance. In the distance an orange glow flickers from the jungle. A small plume of smoke rises from the jungle. The Biosyn campsite is close. Wayne rubs his head. Wayne Look we can‘t just walk up
and take what we need, it
needs to be swift and safe. Regis
I agree, we could also grab a weapon, or some food. Levine
We really only need a phone that works. If we try and get more Things these people will Notice and will kill us. Cathy
So how do we go about it? Levine walks to the map. Levine
We split up. Regis
Ridiculous why? Levine We can‘t create to
much attention, so Cathy, Fischer, go with Thorne to the airstrip. Take the truck, wait for us there. You can follow this road. Wayne
And what are we to do? Levine
Go and get our phones, Take their jeep, call help and make it out. Regis
You make it sound so simple. Wayne
Where are you getting your ideas for this whack job plan? Levine walks up the truck and pulls out a couple of solar powered torches. Levine Nowhere. I‘m mak ing
this up as I go.
CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT
Levine, Regis, Dallas and Wayne move through the dense jungle. The light from the torches is dim but just enough to see their way through the jungle undergrowth. Wayne approaches Levine. Wayne
I know this is a little short notice but I was wondering why you picked myself to come? Levine
You look stronger than Thorne and the others, are both injured. Plus Thorne and Fischer seem to have a bond. Wayne
Thanks. Levine Don‘t worry
This has to go quick. Dallas walks beside Regis Dallas
So much for the documentary. documentary. And I guess your plans. Regis
This isn‘t over. Dallas
Oh why is that? Regis If I get out I‘m going to
find a way of killing Biosyn. You know they tried to buy us out last year, but pulled out because they couldn‘t afford it. They wanted our company to help get access to this island. Dallas How‘d you know?
Regis It‘s obvious now that they‘re here. They‘re
desperate. CUT TO. EXT. BIOSYN CAMP - NIGHT
Levine, Regis, Dallas and Wayne move quietly through the foliage around the Biosyn campsite. Laughter is heard in the distance from behind a group of tents, that seem to glow orange from a fire out of view. The jeep is parked behind a tent, close to the group. Boxes of equipment can be seen in the back of the jeep, some with opened tops. One box reads 78 hour cooler, bottles of liquor poke from the top. Levine shakes his head. Levine They‘re celebrating
already. Dallas Maybe they‘re finished.
Wayne
Then we got here on time. Levine notices Dodgson walk into a tent holding a satellite phone. Dodgson
(background) This wouldn‘t drop,
it would rise if we discover the drug.... Levine
Regis, Wayne get the jeep, the keys are still in the ignition, I can see them. Dallas come with me. CUT TO. INT. BIOSYN TENT - NIGHT Dodgson paces up and down the large field equipped tent. His head doesn‘t even touch the top as he speaks loudly into the phone. Dodgson
No, no, no. Sir if we find the right enzymes that I discovered in the... Levine pears slowly around the tent door. Dodgson back faces the two as they enter the tent. Dodgson (cont‘d)
...InGen DNA structure reports, we may have a momentous scientific leap. Imagine sir a new genetic cure for drug addiction.
Levine
Excuse me. Dodgson spins around in surprise. He about to open his mouth when Dallas puts her hand around his mouth. She struggles as Dodgson fights back, trying to bite. Levine holds his limbs and grabs the phone, hanging it up. Dallas with a free hand grabs Dodgson‘s pistol from his holster. Levine leans close to Dodgson‘s ear.
Levine
(whispers) You make a noise we shoot. And don‘t think we wouldn‘t you‘ve tried to kill us,
that leaves us no option to so the same. Dodgson‘ s face radiates fury. How was this possible?
How were they alive? His fists clench tightly, but there is nothing for him to do he nods. Levine smiles. Levine
Good. CUT TO. EXT. BIOSYN CAMP – NIGHT Regis sits behind the wheel of the jeep, praying that no-one comes around and spots them. Tension is high, hearts are in mouths. Wayne‘ s eyes look around frantically, then he spots Levine and Dallas slowly walking Dodgson out from the tent. A gun in pointed to his back, his face looks furious. Dallas slowly lets go of his mouth, lucky for them Dodgson stays quiet. Levine keeps the gun on him. The two slowly get into the jeep with Wayne and Regis. The gun is still pointed at Dodgson who shakes his head. Levine nods to Regis who slowly starts the engine. From out of nowhere Jose, Sam and other run around from behind the tents holding rifles. Yelling and shouting they point their guns ready to shoot when all of a sudden they freeze. The group in the jeep turn their heads to what the men are staring at. Standing watching them is the female tyrannosaur. Jose
Shoot it! Jose and the others open fire on the animal but it seems unharmed as it tears through the tents. It slams its mouth around the leg of one of the uniformed men shaking the life from him. It drops his body as it swings its head down smashing Sam through the air killing him instantly.
Dodgson quickly taps the shoulders of Jose and the uniform. They disappear into the jungle. Up close the scale of the animal is immense. Regis panics and tries to drive off. All of a sudden the animal lunges, its jaws catch the rear bumper making it bounce. Regis tries to swerve down an access road by the rex flips the jeep. It slides along in the mud, its passengers tumble around inside as the jeep impacts against a tree. The seven tonne carnivore slams its hind leg down on top of the now useless jeep tears at the vehicles tires, pulling off an entire wheel. Dallas screams as the jeep is flipped again by the enraged animal. One of the doors flies open, Levine and Wayne fall out into the foliage below. The rex begins to drag the jeep into a darker part of jungle. Regis holds onto the frame of the jeep as Dallas closes her eyes, could this be it? Without warning the rex slams its head against the jeep with all its strength, it flies through the air into a tree trunk. The sound of metal bending echoes along with the animals deafening roars. The jeep rolls down the tree coming to a crumpled stop at its base. Regis lifts his head to see through a broken window Levine and Wayne shouting at the animal. The tyrannosaur charges giving chase. Regis rolls over to Dallas. Blood rushes from his shoulder. Regis
ARRGH! He holds his shoulder. Regis (cont‘d)
Dallas? Are you okay? Dallas
(sounding weak) No, we were just attacked. Regis
Can you get up? Dallas
Yeah sure. Regis
Come on. CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT Levine and Wayne rush through the jungle. The tyrannosaur roars In the distance, somehow they managed to loose it in the deep jungle. They stumble out into a flattened area of jungle, the Biosyn jeep over turned near a tree. Regis and Dallas are nowhere to Be seen.
Wayne
Where are they?! From across the flatten area Regis and Dallas stumble out. Regis We‘re here.
Levine We‘ve got to move. She‘ll come back to
finish the job. Then voices are heard from the forest nearby. The four look around then run deeper into the jungle.
CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT Levine, Dallas, Wayne and Regis run fast through the jungle. They can hear the voices of Dodgson and Jose behind them yelling loudly. Their feet stumble over branches, vines, rocks, everything imaginable in a jungle, they came across it. They are running for a while when suddenly they stumble onto a small lagoon. The moonlight glistening on the waters rippling surface. A small waterfall rushes nearby, echoing all around. The group stand there for a moment taking in their sudden Discovery when a gunshot goes off behind them. The shot whizzes past them hitting the rocks of the lagoon. The group drop to the ground except Wayne who panics darting into the jungle, disappearing into the foliage. Dallas
Wayne! Levine, Regis and Dallas drop low behind a ferns. As soon as their hidden the Biosyn uniform runs out into view. He looks around for a second then leans down to the ground, inspecting a trail of shoe prints in the mud. They lead into the jungle, suddenly he hears someone running off, panicking. He bursts into life chasing after Wayne. Suddenly a sound of a voice is heard behind the three hiding in the foliage. They turn to see Dodgson and Jose slowly heading their way. Regis pulls out the map of the island and looks at it. He spots the lagoon on the map. Regis
(whispering and weak) We have to head south west to reach the airfield. Levine We‘ll wait here
until they‘re gone then call for help.
CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE – NIGHT Wayne frantically pushes past the big leafs that get in his way. His legs burn as he runs fast away from the hunter following him. It suddenly sets in that he doesn‘t know where he‘s going, or where he is.
He stops to get a breather when suddenly he hears footsteps behind him. He sets off running again, he enters a clearing, then slips down a steep muddy hill. He rolls hard along the ground then he thuds onto the hard ground. He gets up holding his head. Then he looks up and sees the uniform standing at the top of the hill. Wayne freezes he has nowhere else to go. A drop of rain hits Wayne‘s shoulder, then another, and another . Then its pours. The rushing sound of the tropical rain fills the air as the uniform raises his rifle, looking down the scope at Wayne. His finger is about to pull the trigger when the uniform hears an odd sound, he feels something hot on the back of his neck. His hand feels where the heat is coming from. Suddenly the uniform is confused as he feels something slimy on his neck. He turns to see an adult Dilophosaurus standing a few feet away. It‘s a dull colour which blends in with the foliage around it. Its three toes Dig deep into the mud. Six metres long, vicious looks and a sound like no other. The uniform raises his gun to shoot. The animal chirps loudly and suddenly it raises its head screaming loudly. Frills on its neck burst out and the animal spits again, this time the black substance hits the uniform right in the face with a thud. Wayne watches as the uniform shoots wildly around, trying to hit the predator. Watches as the Dilophosaurus jumps onto the man biting at his stomach, his screams piercing the air. Suddenly a second Dilophosaur, rushes towards Wayne chirping. He turns and runs into the forest.
CUT TO. EXT. OPEN GROUNDS – DAWN Levine, Regis and Dallas walk slowly over the large open meadow that covers most of the centre of the island. The storm still pounding the island with rain. The grass comes to their knees as they follow the map heading towards the airfield. The ground is soggy and often sticky making the walk awkward at times. The blood on their clothes remains, the smell of it dulled by the heavy tropical rain. Levine knew that still might not be enough to stop predators from sniffing them out. Dallas idles along licking her lips. Dallas I‘m so thirsty.
Regis
Try drinking the rain. The airfield isn‘t to
far, a mile or so. Levine watches a herd of sauropods, brachiosaurs and Mamenchisaurs, eating the leafs of tall thin trees, hundreds of yards away, behind the misty sheet of rain. He stares in complete awe by the unique spectacle of viewing these animals animals in the flesh, and in the wild. He smiles and studies. Dallas suddenly bursts out in conversation. conversation. Dallas I don‘t watch much TV.
Sometimes I wish I could, but I‘m very picky with
the shows I like, you know being in TV you‘d think I‘d watch it but I don‘t,
ironic, in a way. She pauses for a moment. Dallas (cont‘d)
I Like Frasier. It can always put a smile on my face, his witty mannerisms always get him up the wrong road. God I‘m thirsty. I wish
I was watching Frasier with a glass of cold water. Regis
I never watch TV. Dallas I didn‘t think so.
You look more like An internet sort of guy. Regis
Thanks? But to tell the truth I avoid a lot of media, it‘s all spun lies and made up nonsense. Dallas You‘re starting to hurt
my feelings Edward. Regis You‘re beautiful.
Dallas stops and looks shocked, but smiles. Dallas
Thank you? Regis
There now I‘ve balanced
it out. Dallas Oh so you don‘t really
Mean it? Regis
Of course I do. Dallas
Man, this rain! As Dallas and Regis talk, Levine freezes. He runs to Dallas and Regis pulling them to the ground with a thud. Dallas
What the hell? Regis
Damn! Levine puts his finger to his mouth. Levine
Shhhhh!! In the distance the sauropods honk loudly. The ground rumbles as the huge beasts move frantically frantically yards away. They sound scared. Regis and Dallas look around anxiously. Then the familiar roar of the tyrannosaur is heard rumbling over the rain. It sounds far away but the three still feel the fear. Levine
Stay low, and get off this meadow. The three start to move when suddenly a voice is heard. Dodgson and Jose are walking close, the group drop low. They can see the legs of the two men walking nearby. Hearts begin to thump, harder now than when the tyrannosaur walked onto the meadow. Their voices are clearly heard, they‘re that close.
Jose
That animal must be worth more than a thousand Bengal tigers. Once we find these people by following it, I‘m taking it down. Dodgson pauses. Jose stops too. Jose (cont‘d)
What is it? Dodgson doesn‘t say anything.
The three hidden in the grass hold their breath. Dallas gasps and puts her hand over her mouth. There is a long pause before the tyrannosaur roars from across the meadow. Dodgson It‘s turning .
Jose
Heading where? Levine tilts his head at an angle to slightly See Dodgson‘s face through the grass. Levine notices that his eyes are wide, then realises what is happening. Levine looks at the others, it sinks in quickly. Dodgson and Jose begin to run. As soon as they Move the sound of the rex increases. Levine stands up. Levine
Come on! Regis and Dallas get up. The three instantly head towards to the trees in the direction of the airfield. The ground shakes as the tyrannosaur gains closer. It could smell them from across the field, and Dodgson realised it. A gunshot is heard from a far. The shot flies into a tree trunk as the group enters the jungle edge. The tyrannosaur slams into the trees shattering the trunks, splitting them in two. Levine, Dallas and Regis jump over fallen logs, pushing through bushes as they flee desperately from the monster. From Regis‘ pocket the phone falls, landing in a deep
Puddle, sinking to the bottom. Then the group slip on the rain down a ledge tumbling over each other. The tyrannosaur loses them, and roars in defeat. Turning Back towards the meadow. They come to a stop, on a surprisingly flat section of ground. Regis moans holding his shoulder. Dallas gets up and helps Regis to his feet. Levine coughs and holdings his head. Levine
My god, she is fast. Malcolm was correct about Their speed.
Dallas It won‘t take her long to get here, we‘ve got to
keep moving. CUT TO. EXT. JUNGLE – DAWN The rain has stopped. Wayne walks slowly through the dense jungle. He wipes his head and sits on a fallen tree. The bird calls are loud, the sun beams shine through the canopy going deep into the jungle ahead. Wayne swears as he tries to under stand where he is. Everything looks the same. He sees a small puddle, with surprisngly clear water init. He cups his hands and scoops up some water splashing it over his face. He closes his eyes to rest. A sound of something moving through the foliage is heard behind him. He opens his eyes to see nothing. He gets up slowly looking around him, frightened he begins to walk backwards. All of a sudden the sound of a Dilophosaur chirping is heard from a group of ferns. The sound of stomping feet gets closer. Wayne waits no longer and begins to run. Wayne
God help me. CUT TO. EXT. AIRFIELD – DAY Levine, Regis and Dallas slowly walk onto the dirty airfield. It‘s long empty runway is covered in grass and mud. But no one
can be seen. No Cathy, Fischer or Thorne. They look around for to see if they can spot them, but nothing. The three stand in disbelief. Regis They can‘t have gone .
Levine
What is the time? Regis glances at his watch. Regis It‘s nine-thirty AM.
The rescues team will Be here in three hours. Levine
Your watch working? Regis
Sure. Levine
Then all we can do is wait. Dallas taps Regis on the shoulder. He turns and she points over to the far end of the air field. In the distance the Mercedes Unimog can be seen. Regis
Come on! CUT TO. AIRFIELD, UNIMOG – DAY The vehicle doors are wide open, Levine runs over to it yelling out the names of Fischer, Cathy and Thorne. But they‘re nowhere to be seen. Regis and Dallas follow. Suddenly the three spot a series of large dents in the door of the truck, along with rugged scratch marks that run down the side, exposing the dull metal under the paint. The same markings are all over the truck. Dallas starts to yell out their names, much louder than Levine. Dallas
THORNE! DR. FISCHER! Levine
Quiet! Dallas
Sorry. Levine
Remember, she could be close. Regis
Well now what are we To do?! They‘re gone. Levine
Something tells me they haven‘t. Dallas
What makes you say that? Levine
Intuition. Regis Great now we‘re going
by his intuition. That‘s made this situation a whole lot better! Regis walks over to a nearby building, a minimal shed like building which the island inhabitants used to use all those years ago. He pulls at the doors, locked. Regis slumps down on the floor in the doorway and exhales
loudly in aggravation, not pleased with their current predicament. Levine and Dallas walk over, looking somewhat sympathetic to the Man. They sit down next to him. Dallas rubs his back and pushes some hairs from his eyes. Dallas
It‘s t‘s not your fault Regis I‘m screwed.
Dallas
This can be salvaged I‘m sure the others will
be back soon. Levine turns suddenly to Regis. Levine
How much battery life has the phone got left? Regis I‘m not sure, let me...
Feeling for the phone Regis suddenly realises that it‘s gone. He looks up to the others in shock. Regis
It was right here! It must have dropped when I was running. Levine
Chaos. CUT TO. FEW MINUTES LATER. Regis leans against the building‘s metal frame with his eyes shut. Dallas is leaning her head against Regis‘ shoulder, Levine
paces up and down looking at the two, with a smile on his face. He wanders about for a few more seconds when something grabs his Attention. Something in the distance darts quickly across the airfield. He crouches down and squints to see what it is clearly. He clasps his hand tight and looks through the gap where his index finger curls making a telescope with his hand. It‘s not very effectiv e but it blocks the light so help clear his sight. Staring through the tiny gap in the hand he sees it, a small bipedal carnivore, three metres long with a small horn on the tip of its snout. Levine
Proceratosaurus bradleyi.
The animal sniffs the air and jerks its head towards Levine. Levine stops watching the animal in awe and stands up. It can smell him. He slow backs towards the other two trying not to make any sudden Movements, when all of a sudden another enormous two legged carnivore launches onto the Procertosaur breaking its neck with a quick swipe. A dark coloured female Velociraptor, very similar to the one seen in Jurassic Park. It bites at its kill before looking slowly up at Levine. It‘s cold eyes can been seen from where Levine stands. He knows exactly what this animal is and what it is capable of, he spoke to Malcolm about his encounters and thought how amazing it would be to see one, but now, covered in modified blood, he saw his life flash before his eyes. Levine
(Whispers) Wake up! He kicks at Regis‘ ankles. Levine
Come on! The raptor edges closer. It could spring at any moment. Levine kicks again. Regis/Dallas
What?! Levine
Run. Levine sprints, the two look towards what Levine is running from. Instantly they get up and join him. They sprint towards another building, praying its doors are unlocked. The Raptor glides over the airfield like a land jet. It‘s legs turn to a blur as it hits 60 M.P.H
Levine, Regis and Dallas pant as the raptor screams into the air, sending a chill down the backs of the three. Its feels closer, and closer, when suddenly they see Thorne burst out from a door of the building ahead. Thorne
Come on, faster! The three get to the door and Thorne pulls it shut, slamming down a heavy bolt to lock it. They expect to hear the raptor hit the door to try and get in but nothing. Not a sound. Dallas smiles hugging Thorne laughing, relieved.
CUT TO. INT. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTRE – DAY Thorne, Levine, Regis and Dallas walk up an old spiralling
staircase towards the control tower. The room is a large pentagon shape with control systems 360 degrees around the edges. All the consoles are surprisngly clean with several phones, some hanging from their wires. Cathy is knelt on the ground near Fischer who looks asleep on the floor. His arm is covered in a bloody bandage, an old first aid box lays on the floor beside him. Cathy stands up as the others walk up the stairs into the room. Cathy stands and smiles. Relieved to see them but then she notices that someone is missing. Cathy
Wayne? Regis We‘re not sure.
Thorne What‘d you mean you‘re
not sure? Regis
He ran off after we were attacked by Dodgson and the others. Thorne
Christ. Cathy
Did you manage to call for help? Regis
Yes. But I lost the phone. Thorne
Forget it. Who‘d you call? Regis
InGen, their in negotiations sending a chopper from the mainland. No longer than three hours. Thorne
No sooner? Regis shakes his head. Levine walks over to Fischer and bends down, inspecting his arm. He notices a huge claw mark on his shoulder. Levine
How is he? Cathy
I gave him a shot of morphine
his body is badly battered. He needs medical attention ASAP. Levine I‘m guessing this is from
our friend outside? Cathy
Yes, it came from nowhere about four hours ago. hasn‘t left.
Levine
Any other sign of the pack? Cathy No I believe it‘s a
rogue. Thorne
A what? Levine
Well if for some reason a pack disowns a member, it will wander alone, sometimes with other rogues just killing and eating. Cathy
A characteristic they share with lions. Its a tough one two, tore holes in the truck. Levine
I know, I saw. Thorne
That is all great but We can‘t go out there
If the chopper comes, The animal will kill us. Dallas
Then what do we do? Levine
Are there any weapons? Thorne Not that we‘ve found.
Levine walks to a window and looks down. the raptor is nowhere to be seen. He thinks hard, looking around. Opening draws and flicking switches. Thorne
What are you doing? Levine I‘m not quite sure myself.
Thorne
Oh I almost forgot. We found these lying on The road, we stopped to get them. Thorne picks up a dark green bag from the floor. He reaches into the bag and pulls out an orange disc Like object, a Biosyn tag. Thorne (cont‘d) We‘ We‘ve got them.
Levine
That means nothing. Thorne
What? Why? Levine
We could have made that ourselves. Remember that This is war, and Biosyn Have the upper hand. No One would believe you. Regis
What are you getting at? Levine
We need to get undisputable evidence that Biosyn are behind all this. Thorne
And how do we go about that? Levine
We film them. Cathy
How? Dallas
We have no cameras. Levine
Not true, this control tower has an exterior CCTV unit. It looks intact, all It needs is a little power. Regis
Maybe.
Levine
You want to walk from This with blood on your Hands, or do you want To smear it on Dodgson‘s?
Thorne walks over to a draw and opens it. He slides out a blueprint of the control tower and lays it out on a console. Thorne
I remember seeing this when we were looking for weapons. Levine looks at the map for a moment then points to a section so where behind the tower. Levine
Look here there is a Maintenance shed about 150 yards west of here. Look an electrical symbol and these lines must be cables. Regis
Looks as if it‘s surrounded by jungle. Thorne
There is a path that leads there, shouldn‘t be hard to find. Dallas walks over. Dallas
Well someone has to go Turn on the power. Regis I‘ll go.
Everyone looks at Regis as he finds a windup torch. He spins the handle around fast, flicking on the button. The torch works. Regis (cont‘d) What? I‘m taking
responsibility responsibility for this. CUT TO. EXT. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTRE REAR – DAY The large thick metal door slowly opens. A loud metal screech echoes through the surrounding jungle. The door opens all the way and Regis slips out and quickly looks around. Behind him Dallas looks out. The jungle is silent apart from the exotic birds that fill the air.
No sign of danger. Dallas
Are you sure you want To go alone, we can‘t
Afford to lose you. Regis We can‘t afford to lose
more than one of us. Dallas
But we need you you. Regis I‘ll be back before you
know it. Now get inside. Dallas
Remember knock twice. Regis And you‘ll let me in,
I know now go. Dallas hands him a torch. She slowly shuts the door and Regis turns facing the jungle. He cautiously walks forwards. The path is narrow and overgrown With plants. He looks around before checking the ground to follow The trail. Bending and turning Regis looks ahead to see if he can See his destination. He finds himself in a clearing facing a tall Chain link fence. Beyond is the shed. The shed looks huge; it‘s more like a bunker than a shed.
Concrete exterior with warning signs on the door. WARNING ELETRICAL, CAUTION. Regis slowly opens a gate in the fence and enters. CUT TO. INT. MAINTENCE SHED – DAY The door opens silently, Regis stands at the door. He looks back but cannot see the control tower anymore. His head is covered in sweat, as well as his clothes. He looks forward into the darkness. He turns on the torch. Its light bounces off pipes and cables that run into the ground. Regis walks to a large metal box on the wall. A key is in the lock but the hinged door on the box is ajar. He opens it and sees a series of switches. He holds the torch under one arm and begins to press the switches. Instantly lights burst to life inside the shed. A loud hum is heard. Regis turns and looks around at the inside of the shed. Then something catches his eye. Something moves outside the shed. Regis picks up a spare pipe off the floor. He slowly looks out of the shed door, nothing. Then he sees Wayne run out from a bush. Regis smiles.
Regis
Wayne! Wayne turns his head covered with blood and bruises. Regis runs over to him whilst looking around for danger. Wayne
Thank god! Wayne collapses to the ground and laughs. Regis picks him up. Regis
How did you find us? Wayne
I hardly know myself. I followed northwest, using the sun. Regis
Clever, come on its not safe here. Wayne Don‘t I know it.
Regis and Wayne begin to head towards the control tower when A funny hooting noise catches their ears. They freeze. It sounds close, Regis instantly knows it‘s a dinosaur but its location is somewhat confusing. Regis holds up the pipe and leads Wayne towards the tower. Suddenly they see the source of the sound. A young Dilophosaurus. Its long head stares at them from the path ahead, blocking the path. Another noise catches their ears from the rear. The two men freeze. Wayne looks behind him towards the shed and sees poking out from the foliage the head of his pursuing Dilophosaurus. Wayne
Regis? Regis
I know. Then from the bushes to the side of them another Dilophosaur walks by, its eyes staring at them constantly. Wayne drops his head, Regis quickly looks at him. Regis
What are you doing? Wayne
Cover your eyes, they spit. Regis covers his eyes. Regis
Now we run. Wayne
Yep.
The three dinosaurs hoot loudly, they start to edge forward. All of a sudden Regis and Wayne dart forwards. They pass the Young Dilophosaur who snaps and hisses. Its frill bursts out and it begins to spit at the two men. Barely missing them. From behind them the adult Dilophosaurus charge, roaring. The two men slam against the door and Regis knocks twice. Dallas and Thorne open the door pulling the men inside. One of the adult Dilophosaurus spits, it flies into Thorne‘s
chest.
He knocked backwards shrieking. Dallas slams the door shut. CUT TO. INT. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTRE – DAY Thorne is laid out on a table. As Cathy washes off the spit with a bowl of water. Everyone is pleased to see Wayne alive. Dallas It‘s a miracle you made
It back in one piece. Wayne
Someone up there loves me. Levine looks close at the acidic black spit on Thorne‘s stomach.
Levine
What animal did this? Wayne I‘m not sure, but it had
Two crests on its head. Levine
About seven foot tall? Wayne
Yeah, a mean looking thing too. Levine
Dilophosaurus. Or a kind of sub-species. sub-species. Cathy
Wow, they can spit Poison! Levine
Fascinating. Thorne
My skin tingles. Cathy Don‘t worry you‘ll be
fine, just make sure you don‘t get any in your mouth. Thorne
You a doctor? Cathy
No why? Thorne
Just asking. Cathy
Well trained to be a nurse after universities but that was years back. Dallas walks up to Regis. Dallas
Any sign of the Raptor? Regis
No sign must have gone. Levine
I doubt that. What is the time? Regis looks at his watch. Regis
Half eleven. One Hour left until the chopper arrives. Suddenly the room shakes, a deep rumble quickly follows. It happens again, and again. The group look around. They know what it is but looking out onto the airfield they can‘t see it. Thorne looks out of the window.
The airfield is empty. He turns around to look at the others. Thorne
There is nothing there. As Thorne speaks the trees in the distance shake and move in a very odd fashion, the huge tyrannosaur lumbers out from the forest opposite to the control tower. The group walk to the windows and watch. Dallas
Now there is. The animal sniffs at the ground, raising its head then ducking Down again. It edges forward following the scent like a big dog. It moves down the airfield away from the tower, entering the Jungle.
Thorne
That was close. Dallas turns to Levine. Dallas
You know what this means? Levine
Yeah, Dodgson and Jose are close. It won‘t take them long to find out we‘re
here. Regis
Then let us get this video unit running. The group burst to life. Thorne and Dallas lean out of the window positioning positioning a camera to look directly onto the airfield. Regis and Levine flick switches to turn on the Monitors. With a quick ping the screens turn white. Words write CAM #5 OFFLINE, CAM 8# OFFLINE. Regis
Dallas turn on the cameras, there should be a switch on the backs of each one. Dallas sees two small black switches and flicks them down. On the screens in front of the Levine and Regis two images of the airfield pop up. Thorne walks over to a cabinet, the doors are rusty and ajar. He opens it and bends down pulling out a box of tapes. He blows off dust and pulls one out. Thorne
Lets hope these are ok. Levine
Lets hope. Levine pushes a tape into a recorder and pressed record. Levine (cont‘d)
Now we wait. CUT TO. INT. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTRE MINUTES LATER The group stare out of the windows. The airfield is empty. Rain pours hard over the island again. Isla Sorna is prone to many tropical storms, often sprouting from nowhere. The water drums loudly on the roof of the tower. The only sign of life in sight are three brachiosaurs whose heads poke out from the jungle canopy hundreds
of yards away. Nothing. Levine
(whispers) Come on. Come on. A small yellow flash is seen through the rain from the jungle opposite. Suddenly a shot is heard echoing over the airfield. One of the windows smashes The group drop to the floor. Dallas
Shit! Thorne God they know we‘re in here.
How is that possible? Levine
We forgot one thing. Throne
What? Levine
The scopes on their rifles. Thorne
Jesus. Fischer moans and opens his eyes. Fischer
Wh- tha- loud- sound. Cathy
Stay down doctor! A voice is heard yelling from the airfield. its Dodgson. Dodgson
Regis! Doctors! I would very much like to see you come down here so we can settle this! The group look at each other. Dallas
What do we do? They‘ll shoot us.
Levine
Maybe not, Regis come with me. Regis You can‘t be serious?
Levine
Deadly. Levine leans against the wall and tilts his mouth towards the window. Yelling over the rain. Levine (cont‘d) We‘re coming down!
CUT TO. EXT. AIR FIELD The two men slowly open the front entrance and walk out onto the drenched air field near the base of the tower. Their hands are on their heads as they walk over to Dodgson and Jose who aims his rifle at them. CUT TO. INT CONTROL TOWER. The group in the tower aim the cameras down looking at the men. Dallas We‘re rolling.
CUT TO. AIRFIELD Dodgson smiles at the two men as they stand in front of him. Dodgson I see you‘re missing
some of your team. Are they not coming down? Levine
Not yet. Dodgson looks at Regis and approaches him. He pulls a Colt .45 out from a holster. Regis
Its over Dodgson. Biosyn are to be shut down. Dodgson
No InGen have failed. We‘re taking the materials We need. These are not your animals not any more, their living on their own now. No one owns them. And you think you can stop us, It‘s pathetic.
Evidence is pointless. Because you‘re spending
the rest of your short life here. Regis
You‘re a real piece of
shit Dodgson, a slimy worm of a man. Dodgson
Remember the gun in my hands Regis. Regis You‘re work is finished.
Dodgson No, you‘re finished.
A huge bang goes off as Dodgson fires his pistol into Regis‘ shoulder. Regis falls to the ground in agony. Levine
drops down helping to lay Regis on his back. Blood pours from the wound. Dalla‘s screams can be heard from the tower.
Dodgson looks up. Levine
You son of — a ! Dodgson
Calm down Doctor. Now get me the phone, you stole from me. Levine shakes his head. Levine
Its gone. Dodgson grips his gun and aims it at Levine‘s head. Suddenly as if from nowhere the rogue raptor lunges out from the nearby foliage onto Jose. The man give out a high pitched scream as the animal eats him alive. Levine punches Dodgson who falls to the ground with a splash. Levine grabs Regis and drags him to the door. He quickly shuts it. Dodgson panics finding himself alone with the vicious animal. He runs into the jungle with the animal in pursuit. He follows the edge of the building to the rear entrance. He opens the rear door and enters. The raptor‘s head burst through the door as Dodgson tries to shut it. The raptor pulls out and the door slams shut. The Dodgson sees Levine and Regis climbing the stairs. Dodgson fires the gun, the sound deafeningly deafeningly loud. The shot bounces around the metal stairwell. Levine and Regis enter the control room. Dallas grabs Regis. Dallas
Are you ok?
Regis I‘ve been shot.
Dallas
I know hold on we‘ll get help.
Thorne ejects the CCTV tape and stuffs it into the bag with the Biosyn tags. Thorne We‘re ready, n ow where?
Levine runs to a coiled hose attached to the wall and unwinds it. He throws it out of an open window. All of a sudden the sound of a helicopter is heard. The group look out of the window to see a black chopper with InGen written down the side hover above the airfield. Dust and leaves blowing across the flat ground. From a radio reviver in the room the group hear the voice of the pilot. Pilot
Christ what is going on down there? Was that what I thought it was?! A Dinosaur? Thorne goes to the window. Levine grabs the radio and answers. Levine Forget that sir, we‘ll be
on the airfield in a matter of seconds. Thorne
The raptor has gone. Levine
The chopper must of scared it. Lets go. The group head to the window and climb down. Thorne first, then Cathy, Regis groans in pain but manages to get down. Fischer does the same, then Dallas. Levine stays behind heading to the stairwell Dodgson appears out of the front entrance shooting at the team as they run over to the helicopter. He gives up shooting and begins to sprint towards the group. Levine appears at the door and gives chase. Dodgson
REGIS! NO! Levine catches up with the now psychotic man and drops him to the ground. Levine smacks Dodgson who in turn hits Levine with a large Branch.
The team reach the helicopter. They climb into the back. A man from the cockpit turns around to them. He is wearing a headset and sun glasses. Man We can‘t wait for them!
This rain is getting worse. Dallas
Yes we can! Levine crawls along as Dodgson kicks him in the stomach. Levine groans as Dodgson pulls out his pistol. Dodgson I don‘t know who
you think you are Doctor Levine but business is business. And I won‘t let you stop me. me. Suddenly from the trees the tyrannosaur bursts out. Levine gets up and runs, quickly followed by Dodgson who tries to shoot at it. His gun clicks, empty. He turns back to see Levine way ahead of him climbing into the helicopter. Dodgson
No! The chopper lifts off circling over the airfield. The tyrannosaur lunges at the chopper just missing it. Man
Mother of god! It then turns its attention to Dodgson who begins to run towards The jungle, but his efforts are in vein. The tyrannosaur quickly catches him shaking him to death. The group exhale a sigh of relief. Dallas has tears in her eyes pressing hard onto the gunshot wound on Regis‘ shoulder. Regis smiles at her as the chopper flies over the meadow heading east to Costá Rica. The chopper flies low over the neighbouring island called Isla Tacano. Levine leans his head on the glass of the window. Then he Leans up and calls the others to look out too. Levine
My god, look. They all stare out of the window at an open plain, where a herd Of hadrosaur can be seen grazing. Regis They‘ve inhabited the
other islands. Levine
Amazing. DISSOLVE TO. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – DAY John Hammond lays in bed with life support machines beeping around him. His face is pale and withered. The heart rate beeping is low, but he musters a smile as Regis enters the room wearing an arm sling, and stitches in his head. A nurse writing something down on a clipboard leaves the room. John‘s bed starts to rise as Regis pulls up a chair and sits down.
Hammond
Regis my dear boy I heard the news. Regis
How are you John? Hammond I‘m coping.
There is a knock at the door and a familiar face peers round. Ian Malcolm enters the room, holding flowers. Malcolm
Hello John, Regis this is a surprise. Regis
Good Morning Malcolm. Hammond
Flowers? That is not like you. Malcolm
I wanted to pay my respects. How are you feeling? Malcolm sets the flowers down on a nearby table. Hammond I‘m good.
Malcolm I‘m glad to hear it.
Hammond turns to Regis. Hammond
So Regis my boy tell me, how are my animals?
CUT TO. INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR – DAY Malcolm and Regis walk down the busy hospital corridor. Malcolm I‘m surprised you
made it back, sounds like quite a trip. Regis I‘m sure you know
how it is. Malcolm
Of course so the court hearing isn‘t until six months from now? Regis
Not really swift justice, but It resurrects the Nedry case. We‘ll take
them down. All these years and everything comes full circle. Malcolm
Life finds a way. DISSOVLE TO. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – DAY Hammond lies in bed listening to Vera Lynn. He lifts the remote and switches off the digital radio. He looks out of the window at the leaves of a palm tree that brush gently against the window. He smiles and looks down to a get well soon card signed by Lex & Tim and Malcolm‘s flowers.
Hammond chuckles and slowly closes his eyes. FADE OUT. Dedicated to Michael Crichton
