El módulo de personalidad contiene el software con toda la información de configuración del sistema de combustible (como la potencia, la elevación de par y las tasas de relación de combustible) que determina el rendimiento del motor. La programación Flash es el único método usado para actualizar el software en la mayoría de los motores. Este método requiere reprogramación electrónica (instalación del archivo Flash) del software del Módulo de Personalidad. Sin este archivo Flash, el ET Cat no podría comunicarse con el ECM, y el motor no arrancaría.

Si el voltaje de suministro excede los 32,5 voltios o es menor que 9,0 voltios, se registra un código de diagnóstico. El ECM suministra energía a los inyectores (105 voltios), a los sensores analógicos (5 voltios) y a los sensores digitales (8 voltios).

El sensor de presión de la salida del turbocompresor o el de refuerzo (1) es un sensor analógico de tres cables, que mide la presión absoluta corriente abajo del posenfriador. El ECM suministra 5 voltios al sensor de refuerzo. La presión de refuerzo (manómetro) se puede leer con las herramientas de servicio. Esta medición se calcula usando la presión atmosférica y los sensores de presión de salida del turbocompresor. Una falla de este sensor hará que el ECM reduzca la energía hasta 60% cuando el ECM falle hasta una condición de refuerzo cero. La función principal del sensor es activar el Control de relación de Combustible, lo que reduce el humo, las emisiones, y mantiene la respuesta del motor durante la aceleración.
