Installing System Extension Module

1 Installing System Extension Module Purpose The System Extension Module is a System Module without a transmission sub-module. The System Module can be used as a System Extension Module operating in a baseband extension mode to add channel capacity. In this case, it is connected to the System Module by connecting two optical cables and a DC cable. These items are provided with Flexi System Extension Kit (FSKA) 471226A delivery that includes: •

cable set assembly: • 2 x optical cable, 2 m (6.6 ft.) • 1 x power cable, 2 m (6.6 ft.) • 4 x optical transceiver transmission dummy panel

Also Flexi System Extension Kit (FSKB) 472302A is available. It is otherwise the same as FSKA, but with 4 meter (13.1 ft.) cables. The System Extension Module does not have a transmission sub-module. Instead, a dummy transmission sub-module is installed to provide IP protection.

2 Installing Flexi Pole Installation Kit (FPIA) Purpose Flexi Pole Installation Kit (FPIA) is used for installing the following auxiliary units to a pole: • • • •

Flexi System External Alarm (FSEB) Flexi System External OVP (FSEC) Flexi System External OVP (FSES) Flexi GPS Surge Protection Kit (FYEA)

The pole can between 60 mm (2.4 in.) and 120 mm (4.7 in.) in diameter. The recommended torque value for fixing the FPIA is 5.0-8.0 Nm (3.7 - 5.9 ft-lb.). Steps 1

Install the auxiliary unit to the installation plate using four screws. The installation orientation can be either horizontal or vertical depending on the requirements of the auxiliary unit.

7 Installing Flexi Power Module (FPMA) 7.1

Installing Flexi Power Module (FPMA) Purpose Flexi Multiradio BTS uses 48 VDC power. In a BTS site with AC feed only, a Flexi Power Module (FPMA) is required for converting the AC to DC before feeding the DC power to the System Module. Flexi Power Module (FPMA) consists of mechanics, AC terminal and four slots for AC/DC sub-module (FPAA) or battery sub-module (FPBA/B). The FPMA can include: • • • •

two FPAAs and two FPBAs or FPBBs four FPAAs one FPAA and three FPBAs or FPBBs. Remember to take the charging current into account when dimensioning the rectifiers and batteries. one FPAA and three free slots for expansion.

NOTICE: Do not install the FPBA and FPBB in parallel. If used in parallel, one of these two battery types discharges faster than the other causing an unbalance between the batteries. Two FPMAs can be installed in a stack to support FPAA and FPBA/B operating in parallel.

If your configuration includes a System Extension Module, utilize the additional ground lugs attached to the DC cable harness. Tighten the nuts to 14 Nm (10 ft-lb.). By default, the DC output voltage of the FPMA is floating nominal 48 VDC, however, it can also be positive grounded. This can be implemented by using a branch connector in an additional connection box (see Figure 14 Positive grounding). In this solution, the + wire between the FPMA and System Module is cut, and grounding to the BTS site ground bar is done with an additional grounding cable (the cross-section of which must be the same as that of the + wire).

It is recommended that the FPMA be pre-installed before installing it on the plinth. If applicable, multiple FPMAs can be installed to FPMA unit to support FPAA&FPBA/ FPBB connection in parallel. The output current from the FPMA where two with more than 4 FPAAs are combined would exceed the safety limits for the thickness of the DC cables provided in the delivery. When the BTS power load is more than 2 kW, multiple FPDAs can be installed in parallel. When FPDAs are used in parallel, a maximum of two DC cables can be installed together at each output terminal. This limitation is caused by: • • •

The output current from the FPDA where all three are combined would exceed the safety limits for the thickness of the DC cables provided in the delivery. The safety rubber boots provided in the delivery can accommodate up to two DC cables per terminal. The DC output terminal bolt length can accommodate up to two DC cables per terminal.

Installing FPFC inside a casing Steps

Insert the FPFC inside a 2U or 3U casing. Push the FPFC into the casing and fix it to the casing. If FPFC is installed in a 2U casing, the maximum cable thickness is 5 x 21 mm + 2 x 11 mm outer diameter cable or 6 x 16 mm outer diameter cable. For 2 x 35 mm2 (AWG 2) conductor + 16 mm2 (AWG 6) shielded cable the outer jacket should be stripped.

Connect the grounding cable between the FPFC front panel and the grounding point. Connect the cable between the FPFC front panel fixing point and the grounding point, for example the plinth. 13 Installing Flexi System External OVP (FSEC) FSEC is not relevant for TD-LTE.

Purpose The Flexi System External OVP (FSEC) assembly protects the Flexi BTS modules against surge pulses in power feeding lines. There are five versions of the FSEC, which are separated from each other by the first two digits of the factory code: • • • • •

Remove the connector seals from the relevant optical cable connectors in the FODA unit. See Figure 172 Opening the lid of FODA, step 2. Store the seals for later use. You can store these inside FODA.

Change the location of the cable gland from the side to the front of the FODA unit. See Figure 172 Opening the lid of FODA, step 3. Changing the location of the cable gland is only required for stack and rack installations.

Route the input fiber cables via the cable gland. Detach first the nut from the cable gland and route the cables through the nut one by one. Then route the cables through the cable gland. See the figure below.

Fix the FODA unit to the rack using the mounting brackets on both sides of the unit. Or Fix FODA to a 3U casing on top of FPFC and secure the casing with two screws in the topmost position in the stack. 1. Install FPFC first in the casing using either the lower or upper fixing points of FPFC with one cage nut. 2. Install FODA on top of FPFC and fix it with two screws, one cage nut on both sides. See the figure below. 3. Fix the cable entries to the casing with one M5 x 10 screw on both sides of FPFC. Use the lower fixing points of the cable entry.

Installing Flexi System External Alarm (FSEB) Before you start Before installing the FSEB, see FSEB interface signals and connector pin assignments. In pole or wall installations, locate the box in the proximity of the System Module. In wall installations, make sure that the mounting surface is flat. The distance from the FSEB to the System Module is limited by the length of the alarm cable. NOTICE: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) may damage the equipment. Wear an ESD wrist strap when handling the external alarm connection box. When connecting the cables, make sure that the cable lead-ins that are not used are blocked. A module ground cable is not included in the FSEB delivery. The minimum cross-section of the cable should be 2.5 mm2 (14 AWG). The length of the cable should be determined based on the FSEB installation option. Summary The FSEB can be installed either horizontally (cable lead-ins on the side) or vertically (cable lead-ins facing downwards, or left or right). See the following figures for the two installation options.

If you are using an existing alarm cable (cable diameter min. 4-6 mm, ovality 1 mm) with a 37-pole D-Sub connector, connect the cable with a D-Sub connector as follows:

These two alarm cables can be connected to the EACX-I and EACX-II connectors of the FSEB, respectively. Connect the BTS alarm cables 1-12 and 13-24 to EACX-I and EACX-II connectors. Note that signals ext_al 13...24 are considered in BTS commissioning and fault handling as external alarms with IDs from 15 to 26. Pay attention to connect them to the right EACX connector, otherwise the alarm number and alarm description will not match. After the installation, trigger and verify the alarm condition using the Flexi BTS Site Manager. a) b) c) d)

The cable must not move inside the gland. b) Insert the alarm cables in the FSEB box by using the cable glands on the right-side half of the FSEB box. c) Route the alarm cables and fix them with cable ties. The first fixing point must not be further away from the FSEB box than 0.5 m (1.6 ft). d) Attach alarm lines EXT_AL1 to EXT_AL12 using screw terminal blocks X4106X4109. e) For each alarm input, connect one wire to the GROUND screw terminal blocks X4107 or X4109 and connect one wire to the selected alarm input on screw terminal blocks X4106 or X4108. Satellite visibility Note that a 180º clear sky view is the optimum case from the signal quality and accuracy point of view. If the clear sky view is smaller than 180º (for example urban canyons), the GPS/GNSS receiver operation might suffer from poor satellite visibility, depending on the sky view angle and location on the globe (especially latitude). The GPS/GNSS receiver might be operational, especially after the survey, even with smaller than a 180º sky view, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, the survey time might be longer and the accuracy of the PPS signal poorer than with a full 180º sky visibility.

18 Installing Flexi GPS Surge Protection Kit (FYEA) Purpose The Flexi GPS Surge Protection Kit (FYEA) assembly protects the Flexi System Module against transient voltage and current spikes in the GPS antenna line. There are two mounting kits for the FYEA: • •

Flexi Mounting Auxiliary Brackets (FMAA) for stack installations Flexi Pole Installation Kit (FPIA) for pole and wall installations

The FYEA box is connected between the System Module and the GPS antenna. The FYEA can also be installed on FCOA roof. The fixing points on the cabinet roof are illustrated in the following figure.

20 Installing UltraSite Outdoor Side Kit (OSKA) Purpose The UltraSite Outdoor Side kit (OSKA) is used to enhance current UltraSite BTS's by adding FlexiBTS modules to it without the need of adding an extra cabinet. The OSKA kit can be used with the ODCA cabinet. The following cabinet do not support the kit yet: • • •

CRMA + OAKA CRMA + OAKB and ODCF

Before you start Ensure that the BTS cabinet is grounded properly to ensure personnel safety and to avoid electrostatic discharge which can damage the equipment.

f Danger of Lethal Voltages! Ensure that the site has a main switch for disconnecting power and that the mains power breaker is off before installing the OSKA Side Kit. Summary The side kit allows both WCDMA and GSM/EDGE Flexi modules to be connected to it, with each module being housed within a Flexi housing. The Flexi Rectifier Module (FPRA) can also be mounted directly to the side kit without the need of a Flexi housing. The side kit can be fixed to either the left hand side (LHS), right hand side (RHS) or rear of an Ultrasite Outdoor cabinet. A maximum of two modules can be stacked on top of each other in three fixing points (a total of six Flexi modules). The maximum weight on one plate is 130 kg. Note that only two faces of an Ultrasite Outdoor cabinet can be used at any one time, which are LHS and rear or RHS and rear. For details see the figure below:

Secure the side plate to the side of the Ultrasite ODCA Cabinet using 6 of M6 x 20 torx screws, flat washers and star washers. Ensure that the two wall brackets are connected properly.

Adjust the side wall plate so that it is touching the ground or the cabinet mounting platform. This helps support the weight of the plate and mounted modules prior to tightening of the fixings. Tighten M6 screws to 5Nm. If the side plate is to be mounted on the rear of the cabinet, the wall brackets should be secured between the A fixing positions of top 2 rear corners of the cabinet. If the side plate is to be mounted on the rear of the cabinet as well as one of the sides, 4 of the wall brackets should be used between the A fixing positions of the 2 rear corners of the cabinet.

Installing UltraSite IDC_ Roof Kit (IRSA) Purpose The UltraSite IDC_ Roof Kit (IRSA) is used to install a Flexi Rectifier module (FPRA), or any other Flexi unit, on the roof of an UltraSite Indoor cabinet. The FPRA is configured as part of the respective BTS and forms a fully integrated solution for sites requiring battery backed-up facility. For this application, either the FPRA or Flexi Modules can be installed. Three Flexi modules can be installed into IRSA roof kit on cabinet roof. Maximum weight of modules on roof is 53 kg. Preconditions Remove the assembled IRSA UltraSite IDC_ Roof Kit from its packaging. Connect the -48V DC and DC return power cables to the IDCA antenna box, situated on the top of the cabinet.

Fit any other cabling to the antenna box, such as alarm or antenna cables, prior to fitting the IRSA Roof Kit.

Fit the four support rails into the M12 eyebolt fixing positions on the top of IDCA cabinet. Use a 13mm spanner to tighten.

Fit the mounting rails and the adapter plate over the support bars. Secure with M8 Hex nuts and washers. Tighten to 20Nm maximum. See the figure for details: 3.
