letter from the editor
I
n the last few weeks, so much of the world’s attention has been focused on the US Elections, and many of the mainstream media outlets expressed shock, surprise even outrage at the eventual result; but on hindsight, perhaps they missed what was obvious all along. Much earlier in the game, when Donald Trump first announced his candidacy and before he became the Republican candidate, Lillian Too had already predicted based on his luck charts that he has what it takes to make it all the way. But following his campaign over the last few months, she became even more convinced. In this issue, she takes a closer look at the next US President and how he crept up on all the experts to capture the White House. She reexamines his Paht Chee together with the astrological indications of his family members, who no doubt will continue to play significant roles in his Presidency, as they did all through his campaign. Donald Trump has famously said in the past, “I don’t need to believe in feng shui. If it makes me rich, I will use it.” Widely-published photos of every nook and corner of his penthouse, quite literally a mansion in the skies, suggests however that he does! The Singapore Extravaganza was a great success once again with a sell-out crowd!
We also had to mention Trump’s philosophy; he has the mind of a winner and this is exactly what the feng shui mindset is about. This coming year, the Winning Star, also known as the Victory Star #1, flies to the center of the chart. Those who can capture its energies can truly make the most of the Rooster Year – something which Lillian goes into much detail on in her Extravaganza Roadshow, which began in Singapore Nov 20th. Her next date will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday Dec 11th 2016 at Hotel Istana. Do not miss this! While feng shui is often described as an art of placement, it is also an art of thinking, and this is the focus of Lillian’s recent Course on Spiritual Feng Shui, where her students learned to unleash their “Dragon Power”. You can call this making magic; in the sense that results come in ways that can be quite phenomenal, as described by some of her students within. The Dragon has always held mystique in Chinese culture, and this coming year, the Dragon has a disproportionately large role to play. It is timely then that Malaysia unveils a

brand new Dragon in Johor. Lim Han Jin takes a visit to this marvelous new attraction in our Southern-most state. Our movie feature this issue takes a second look at Dr Strange, Marvel’s latest superhero to hit the big screen. While it has all the special effects and fast-moving action you would expect from a big-studio production, at its heart is a very spiritual storyline. Much of it is set in Katmandu and the Himalayas, which touches a real chord, as this is a pilgrimage land that Lillian visits often and has led countless groups of students on. As we enter the festive month of Christmas and New Year, our columnist Dato Halimah reflects on the different kinds of friendships we keep as we move through life, and the importance of each kind. Everybody needs friends, although the relationships with each can take on very different flavours. Datin Jeannie Chung, who has built up a fabulous world for herself since losing her husband and love of her life ten years ago is testament to the power of friendships. She chats with Hanni Lim on moving on and living life. Life coach Shahreen Kamaluddin reiterates the importance of learning to love yourself, from which everything that is good and beautiful can thereon grow from. Our Paht Chee column by Phillip Lim talks about the Retreating Star, with South
Korean’s president Park Guen Hye as an example, while Chris Yeo simplifies the design process when making over any home, office or premises, with an emphasis on options and compromises. Amongst the busy-ness of life, it is also important to find time to take a break, even for a short weekend away. Travel is often quoted as the only thing that makes you richer – apart from feng shui of course! – and this is true because it opens your mind, rejuvenates the soul and expands your horizons. Helen Oon takes us to Tohoku in Japan, a hidden gem in the Northeast region of Honshu, where she explores the three sacred mountains and retraces the footsteps of the Shoguns and the Samurai. They believe one can gain enlightenment through strengthening the bond between man and nature. Lillian Too meanwhile revisits Mussoorie in the North of India, home of Khenpo Delek Rinpoche and now also to one of the world’s most stunning statues of Guru Rinpoche on the grounds of Mindroling monastery. Wishing you a very merry Christmas, happy New Year and happy reading!

…not to mention his regular use of the powerful activating HAND MUDRA and being born at precisely the Year, Month, Day and Hour Pillars that created a magnificent Four Pillars Destiny Chart that presents him with many opportunities for greatness. In 2015, it created the causes and conditions that inspired him to successfully challenge 17 other contenders to become the Republican Party nominee for President of the USA. The timing could not be more perfect for Trump, because the Election being in 2016 is a MONKEY year. His daughters Ivanka and Tiffany are both ROOSTERS. Ivanka gave birth to a new baby early in this MONKEY year. These events create the powerful trinity of SUCCESS that brings big auspicious luck in the season of Autumn. This trinity comprises Trump’s DOG sign uniting with his ROOSTER daughters and the MONKEY year activated by the birth of his new grandson. On Election Day held on November 8th 2016, luck was with TRUMP all the way.

RUMP’s victory surprised and shocked the world! Eve r yo n e i t s e e m e d , and especially the most passionate of the Hillary supporters, had forecasted him to lose. In the face of the heavy artillery of the Clinton camp of passionate supporters, I did not dare make too much of my Paht Chee and Feng Shui readings, which showed a great many positive signs favouring Trump. I did make lots of private bets, so I have plenty of dinners to collect; I did write about Trump’s chart and explained his very strong luck in an issue of this magazine early this year. I continued to give subtle hints socially, but amongst my students, those who came to study with me in Kuala Lumpur, all through 2015 and 2016, I told them very clearly exactly what would happen in November – that Donald Trump would win! When I went for my 40th Class Reunion at HARVARD Business School, I reconnected with my classmates – many of whom had lived a lifetime of entrenched success, the top tier of business leaders, you might say. They were strong Clinton supporters, especially the women, many of whom looked at me in appalled surprise when I asked if any of them thought Trump might have a chance winning. “What do you mean!!! You even like him?” They scolded me before I could say anything beyond his name; two of them were especially defensive, as they told me off for daring to suggest that Trump’s name is even mentioned in the august halls of Harvard. I found it quite unpleasant. Successful American corporate women can be an intimidating lot even to me. I was not sufficiently concerned to debate the issues or put up any kind of response. I am not an American, but I did take note of the insular arrogance, exactly the brand of elitism that made Hillary describe Trump supporters as “deplorables”. By the time I attended the Gala Dinner at the Reunion, I had decided to avoid all talk of the Elections. I believe this is the reason why all
12
the polls got it so wrong. Trump supporters must have decided that the less said the better. I believe they had decided to stay silent and vote. Let the Donald do all the shouting; let him do the campaigning, he is strong enough to do so – they would just turn out and vote for him. That was exactly what happened as my personal friends, Americans from California, Nevada and Florida and New York who are all pro Trump felt as strongly as the Hillary supporters. This Election has caused a huge divide in the US indeed. HILLARY CLINTON was an intimidating candidate. Practically every celebrity, every newspaper, every editor and even the power brokers of Washington and the elite of New York and Los Angeles were on her side. They wanted her to win and become Madam President. Even the sitting president, the eloquent Barack and his remarkable First Lady Michelle Obama campaigned for her.
Despite Hillary Clinton’s line up of “Incredibles”, DONALD TRUMP gained victory and in January 2017 at the Inauguration, he will become the next President of the United States, the most powerful man of the Western world. Who would have thought this could happen!
F E N G SHUIWORLD | DECEMBER 2016 | www.fswmag.com
From my viewpoint, he had it all, Heaven luck, Mankind luck and Earth luck. HEAVEN LUCK: Born into wealth, he has the looks, the brains, the ambition and the single-minded determination to achieve whatever success he wants. EARTH LUCK: He believes in the power of earth energies, the winds and waters of excellent feng shui. He brings in the experts to align the energies of his many properties and his home and office; and yes, I know he reads my books! So he lives and works surrounded by favourable energy. And by success vibrations. M A N K I N D LU C K : He embraces, nurtures and cares for his kids, his families, wives past and present, his employees and his friends. He rewards loyalty above all else. DONALD TRUMP is surrounded by powerful HEAVEN, EARTH and MANKIND LUCK! He also has the STAR OF GREATNESS and STAR OF ASTROLOGICAL TIMING… all of which bring him the potential for greatness. His chart maxes out, especially in a Monkey year, which spiritually is ruled by Guru Rinpoche
Eric Trump, Lara Yunaska Trump, Donald Trump, Barron Trump, Melania Trump, Vanessa Haydon Trump, Kai Madison Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Donald John Trump III, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Tiffany Trump pose for photos on stage after Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the U.S. presidency at Trump Tower on June 16, 2015 in New York City.
bringing incredible magic his way. Thus on Guru Rinpoche Day, he won the electoral votes he needed to claim victory and become the 45th President of the United States! Actually, I studied Hillary Clinton’s chart before I even looked at Trump’s chart and although Hillary Clinton had a premier chart including having the Star of the Nobleman suggesting plenty of powerful people on her side, alas she lacks a good end to her life and she does not have the “Star of Greatness” nor the luck of perfect astrological timing. That was why I wrote that she would lose to Barack Obama the first time she decided to go for the Presidency. I thus want to tell her supporters… so sorry; it was just NOT written in the stars!
TRUMP’S MAGIC… “Think like a winner and be a winner…” Donald Trump is a man who mouths a n d t h i n k s A F F I R M AT I O N S continuously. His first book, the ART OF THE DEAL, is filled with winning words and phrases that can
easily be turned into affirmations and positive slogans. “Put yourself first; Be a winner; Stay Determined!” He is passionate about everything he does, everything he is and everything he puts his mind to. “Without passion”, he says, “you have no energy, and without energy you have nothing! Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.
TRUMP’S MANTRA Make America Great Again Mr Trump was not the first presidential candidate to use this exceedingly galvanising mantra. Ronald Reagan used it previously and so did Bill Clinton, and both became two-term Presidents of the USA. But neither turned the slogan into the relentless mantra it became in Trump’s campaign. Restoring American greatness was not one of many campaign messages; it was Trump’s singular message, hammered home at every campaign stop, every speech he gave and every debate opportunity. Even in victory he says not with a roar this time, but in the soft
dulcet tones of someone now sure of his power having won the unrelenting battle, ‘America,’ he says, ‘will no longer settle for anything less than the best . . . We’re going to dream of things for our country, and beautiful things and successful things once again.’ Addressing the rest of the world, he says in reassuring tones, We will deal fairly but he adds, “We will always put America first.” This is a man who speaks directly and frankly. He is a businessman, not a politician, not an army man, not a yes man. He does not yet have the politician’s gift of “double speak” and so I believe he is saying exactly what he feels. These words are his mantra, his beliefs. The words are pure; they reflect what he truly feels. He really will put America first. He will truly try to restore the greatness he believes his country has lost. Boiled down to essentials, these are the things he will try to achieve. There is a word for this kind of thing, and it is patriotism. Trump knows America is a country made up of many races and he has pledged to be President for everyone.

It was in his victory speech, and I pray he will have the strength and the conviction to bring all his promises to pass. I am praying for him because I know he will do his best to avert war. He wants to make friends with Russia, China and the rest of the world. He will deal. He will not make war! Hopefully, he will make the art of the deal his winning mantra!
TRUMP’S MASTERY… “always be the best…” Donald Trump has five children from three wives and he has eight grandchildren. He is a Patriarch of his current clan comprising three generations. The great mastery of Trump lies in the strong values he holds about family ties, about nurturing those who depend on him, about educating them, treating them fair, giving them all a chance and honouring them. His kids in turn are well-educated, super well-brought up and each quite formidable indeed in terms of their capability! I listened to Ivanka Trump’s speech introducing her father at the Republican Convention in 2015 and truly, I was blown away by everything she said. I loved the way she described
her father. It gave me such a window into his world and his heart. It made me believe then that he really would be able to make it all the way! Ivanka Trump spoke about her upbringing; she shared stories about her growing up years learning the construction business from her father; she spoke about working within the Trump organisation where she is a Senior Vice President and she told of the way Donald Trump respected employees, men and women alike; and how he would often go out of his way to give unfortunate people he read about, total strangers the kind of break that would change their lives forever. As I listened and watched all his children working so passionately for his campaign, I said to myself, “Anyone who can manage five children from three different marriages, and with their spouses and children (remember each with their own egos) – wow, says a lot for his upbringing and management style; says a lot too for his brand of loving and caring! Not easy what he has achieved! It was this that convinced me above all things that he can do what he claims to be able to do – make his country great again. That they work so well together within the

TRUMP organisation, and now as influential members of his Transition Team towards the Presidency tells me Donald Trump makes for a great Patriarch indeed! He has the potential to become a great President.
WHAT CAN AMERICA EXPECT What kind of President will he be?… Can Trump be the standard-bearer for a unified patriotism and unashamed nationalism now sweeping across America? He has already transformed American politics. Can he unify the different races, religions and peoples that make up the new America? Can he oversee changes in the balance of power in the USA and by extension the world? Trump is proud and unrelenting when it comes to principles and values he lives by. He is guided by many mantras, not least those relating to the principles of living, values upon which society, family, town, district, village and country are built on. Many can say that running a country is different from running a business. In truth, no one has the experience of being President of the USA. This is a job one needs to grow into. I pray he stays safe, healthy and strong in 2017.
TRUMP & OBAMA Analysing their body language
AT THEIR FIRST MEETING, President Barack Obama and President Elect Donald Trump set aside their differences and bent backwords to put on a show of cordial relations. Obama appeared gracious and warmer, while Trump displayed deference and even demonstrated humility – it was a wonderful start to showing everyone he could be as Presidential as they would wish. Looking at this picture, both men display equal sense of power, confidence and most importantly, an attitude of openness. They sit with legs apart; with hands touching, almost praying; both sitting upright, expressions wary, and feet pointing straight ahead. The only difference is Obama’s fingers are all crossed, not sure what to expect, while Trump’s are pointed straight ahead in a gesture of hope. Most importantly, demonstrating a true desire to be friends. This is surely the start of something good.
Unlike their spouses, the current First Lady Michelle Obama and the Incoming First Lady Elect Melania Trump, are seated in a confrontational way each facing the other with their faces in profile and their legs tightly closed. The picture reveals that both ladies are wary of the situation. There is an air of tension. Melania’s hands are folded on her lap – her hair is let down and she is wearing black, the darkest yin colour. She will reveal little and she is not yet prepared to trust Michelle Obama. The First Lady is trying a little harder. She is smiling and gesturing with her hand inwards as she speaks, and she has allowed a strong band of orange colour to soften the dark blue of the dress she is wearing. She too has her hair down; she is more prepared to be friendly rather than formal with Melania Trump.
DONALD TRUMP is the MAN OF THE MOMENT From TRUMP’s books, ART OF THE DEAL and THINK LIKE A BILLIONAIRE here are...
TRUMP’S TIPS
ON LIVING LIFE & BEING SUCCESSFUL FROM DAD 1LEARN “I learned how to think like a billionaire by watching my father, Fred Trump. He was the greatest man I’ll ever know, and the biggest influence on my life. He showed me how to fight the unions and the politicians to get the buildings done under budget and ahead of schedule. He could be a showman. His deals were front-page news. He had big openings for his developments. His gift for promotion rubbed off on me. But he (and I) succeeded not because of promotion but because we learned how to create the best buildings at the best locations. My father always trusted me. He had absolutely no doubt about my ability. Even when I was at my lowest, in the early 1990s, and I was billions in debt and a hundred banks were ready to sue my a** off, he’d say: ‘You are a killer. You are a king.’ His faith gave me unshakeable confidence.
2
HAVE VISION “I listen to people, but my vision is my vision.” Trump has said many times quoting the writer Richard Conniff: ‘Almost all successful alpha personalities display a single-minded determination to impose their vision on the world, an irrational belief in unreasonable goals, bordering at times on lunacy.’
BIG 3 THINK “I like thinking big. To me, it’s very simple: if you’re going to think anyway, you might as well think
big. Most people think small because most people are afraid of winning. And that gives people like me a great advantage.” Trump has been thinking BIG all his life. Thinking big has now propelled him into the White House!
4
DISCARD DESPERATION “The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal is seem desperate. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you’re dead. The best thing you can do is deal from strength, and leverage is the biggest strength you have. Leverage is having something the other guy wants. Or better yet, needs. Or best of all, simply can’t do without.
DECISIONS 5 MAKE “Vast fortunes are accumulated through dozens of decisions every day, yet each decision is different and special in its own way. Sometimes you decide immediately — love at first sight. Sometimes you go slowly — the long engagement.”
6 BE“WeSHALLOW are all drawn to beauty, whether it’s the allure of a person or the elegance of a home. Whenever I’m making a creative choice, I try to step back and remember my first shallow reaction. The day I realized it can be smart to be shallow was, for me, a deep experience.”
THROUGH 7 PUSH “Life is difficult no matter what, but hard work and perseverance make it a lot easier. Never stop and never give up. If you have a concrete wall in front of you, you must go through it.”
PASSION 8 HAVE “Sometimes you’ll think with your head. Other times you’ll think with other parts of your body, and that’s good. Some of the best business decisions are made out of passion.”
WHAT YOU DO 9 LOVE If you’re not enjoying your work, you’re in the wrong job. With my kids joining the family business, I’m closer to them than I’ve ever been. I love relating to them just the way my father related to me, through a passion for work well done.
UP PACE 10 PICK Have a short attention span. I’ll be talking to someone and after the first three words are out of their mouth, I can tell what the next 40 are going to be, so I pick up the pace and move it along.
AWAKE 11 STAY Don’t sleep any more than you must. I usually have about four hours per night. I’m in bed by 1am and up to read the newspapers at 5. That’s all I need, and it gives me an edge. I ask
friends who sleep ten hours a night: ‘How can you compete against me?’
CONTACT 12 HUMAN Don’t depend on technology. I don’t have a computer on my desk. I don’t use an intercom. When I want someone in my office, I yell. It works a lot better. A lot of tech devices are unnecessary and get in the way of human contact. If you have something important to say, look the person in the eye and say it.
IS FOR WIMPS 13 EMAIL Pick up the phone, speak to the other guys. Make sure they hear the sincerity in your voice. E-mail is for wimps.
14
ONE MAN ARMY Think of yourself as a one-man army. You’re not only the commanderin-chief, you’re the soldier as well. You must plan and execute your plan alone.
SMART IS BETTER THAN TOUGH People are always comparing business to war and to sports. We do it because these are analogies we immediately understand, not because business is about toughness. It isn’t. It’s much more important to be smart than tough.
15
BE UNDER ESTIMATED 16 It’s often to your advantage to be underestimated. You never want people to think you’re a loser, but it’s not a good idea if they think you’re the smartest guy in the room, either. I’m too famous to be underestimated — I know that sounds egotistical, but it’s true. But I’m always impressed by ultra-successful people who live great lives in a low-key manner. It’s important to let people know about your accomplishments, but there are times when it’s even more impressive if people discover your accomplishments without you telling them directly.
SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS 17 The best way to impress people is through results. It’s easier for me to do deals now because I’ve had so many triumphs. You must create success to
impress people. If you haven’t had any successes yet, you must create the impression of success.
FAMILY IS VITAL Friends are good but family is better. When I was young, I said to someone who had a big business: ‘Do you see your brothers and sisters?’ The person looked at me and said, ‘Yes, I do, Donald. I see them in court.’ That had a big impact on me, and I’ve always tried to stay close to my brothers and sisters, my children and my ex-wives.
18
EDUCATE YOUR KIDS 19 Dumping huge amounts of money on your children without properly educating them about how to put that money to work — or how to make money on their own — is the worst thing a parent can do. It’s negligent.
FIGHT BACK 22 Much as it pays to emphasize the positive, there are times when the only choice is confrontation. In most cases, I’m very easy to get along with. I’m very good to people who are good to me. But when people treat me badly or unfairly or try to take advantage of me, my general attitude all my life has been to fight back very hard.
EMBRACE ROMANCE 23 Believe it or not, I’m a romantic guy. If there isn’t any romance in my life, then I don’t have much incentive to be the best that I can be. That’s one reason I love women. They’re great motivators. My love for women — especially Melania — is an inherent part of me and the work that I do. I believe strongly in the concept of ‘the woman behind the man’, or vice versa. My years with Melania have been the best of my life.
GOING WITH THE FLOW WORK IS VITAL 20 I play things very loose. I don’t 24 To me, work is as important carry a briefcase. I try not to schedule as breathing. I have an inherent work too many meetings. You can’t be imaginative if you have too much structure. I prefer to come to work each day and just see what develops.
STAYING COOL 21 When you’re at a meeting, try not to get angry unless it’s absolutely necessary or uncontrollable. Anger often indicates lack of intelligence. Your manners, like your money, need to be maintained always.
ethic that will never diminish.
GOOD MARRIAGE 25 A good marriage is like negotiating an important deal: you have to consider all the factors, thoughtfully and thoroughly. If you were investing a large part of yourself and your fortune into a venture, you’d make sure you thought about it for a long time first. That’s how I see marriage. It’s serious, and it’s important.

TRUMP’S
MAGNIFICENT MANSION IN THE SKIES
Showcasing Feng Shui Power of an Imperial Kind! by LILLIAN TOO

onald Trump’s super luxurious home in New York is a fabulous showcase of the grandest kind of good feng shui, a home that features three floors of exquisite furnishings filled with priceless art, furniture and sculptures, with gold plated columns and marble floors laid out on an exceptional scale befitting kings and gods, emperors and now

of course, modern day presidents. Trump and his third wife Melania live on the 66th floor penthouse of TRUMP TOWER on Fifth Avenue and they have been blissfully happy, rich and very powerful ensconced in their mansion in the skies, a mansion that channels the most fabulous uplifting energies rising up from Central Park. We can only bring you pictures of this amazing palace,

Only the French SUN KING’s Palace at Versailles has the exquisite kind of mirrored, crystal, marble finish of the New York home of America’s President Elect. Viewing this lobby area of Trump’s penthouse, we can instantly pick out the feng shui features that bring him so much WEALTH and POWER luck! MIRRORS: everywhere magnify luck for the residents, especially as they are framed in 24 carat gold! MARBLE: of the best quality all have rounded edges and these bring the luck of heaven into the home. CHANDELIERS: bring light energy that complement the abundance of natural light bringing POWER luck. WATER FEATURE: faces the door inviting in money luck! Is it any wonder the TRUMPs are so rich? POLISHED GRANITE: floors that reflect the ornate mirrored ceilings multiply good fortune! but looking at the sumptuous luxury of his home, we are not surprised that he has announced that he will live in the WHITE HOUSE in Washington only during work days. Weekends he will be either at his Trump Tower Penthouse or at his other magnificent property in Florida.
It seems that Donald Trump believes in the magic of gold because it is evident everywhere, in every picture or mirror frame, on every piece of furniture, on all the frames containing pictures of his children. Indeed, there are so many pictures of his family and loved ones prominently and expensively displayed in this ornate side table. This brings incredible good family feng shui! Family pictures displayed this way ensures the family will always stay together; they will always holiday and play together. I am not surprised then that in the campaign for the Presidency, his entire family supported him. And this is a very special FIRST FAMILY! They are smart, good looking and all very capable. They are alumni of the Wharton School of Finance, part of the University of Pennsylvania, like Trump himself, and despite the ferocity of the campaign, the family stood together standing proud and fearless in the face of an onslaught of attacks. I have never seen anything like this – the way the whole family stood so valiantly and so beautifully together. In no small measure, this is due to the good feng shui of Donald and Melania Trumps’ home. They have been happy here. Their marriage has lasted 18 years and they look closer than ever. Plus they have a handsome young son, Barron, the youngest of Trump’s five children from three wives. The stunning Melania, his third wife, once a supermodel and from Europe, is all set to become the First Lady of the USA, truly a modern-day Empress. The presence of all five elements in the home creates its own special magic. This is the easiest dimension of
A younger looking TRUMP stands at one of his incredible full length windows overlooking the park. He has obviously incorporated some great feng shui considerations into his home. In any case, I have been told that Trump believes in feng shui and that he has read many of my feng shui
books. When I wrote about Trump in the magazine early this year predicting his good fortune at the Elections, we sent him a copy and we are happy to report that his people sent us a personal note of thanks for the story on him.
The foyer welcoming area of the penthouse is a showcase in gold. The style of the décor is very European. Feng shui wise, you can see the hand of the feng shui master here. All five elements are present, Fire in the red pillows and brightly lit chandeliers, Earth in the marble and glass, Metal in the gold trimmings, Water in the sunken water feature and Wood in the indoor plant and orchids.

The public space is extremely spacious and furniture is placed to allow a good flow of chi energy. Note that on the ceiling in addition to mirrors, there are imposing ceiling murals showing Greek Gods taken from legends. Donald Trump is said to be history buff; he also has a love of European art and craftsmanship. Inside the home are bronze statues of Greek Gods and Goddesses. Melania’s office is in an auspicious corner. Here she sits with the Empire State building providing her with great support. On her desk, she is showcasing her range of her privately designed watches and jewellery and on one wall is a limited edition reproduction of Renoir’s ‘La loge’ painting hung from the wall above. The original hangs in Courtauld Gallery in London. Art historians explain that Renoir painted it when he was only 33 years and had thus not become yet rich and famous. The painting was exhibited in 1874 at the first Impressionist Exhibition in

Paris. Melania’s work desk is petite, and from a feng shui perspective, this suggests she will never really work very seriously at all! Also, she needs to be careful that she does not sit with the sharp edge of the wall pointed directly at her. Mu c h o f Tr u m p’s i n t e r i o r decorations show the potential of

Here is another shot of Melania Trump sitting at her desk directly hit by the poison arrow created by the protruding corner behind her. She must have sat here to draft the only two speeches she gave during the campaign, so no wonder she was so strongly criticized for plagiarizing parts of her speech from Michelle Obama! FENG SHUI EXTRAVAGANZA 2017
OLD FRIENDS & NEW FRIENDS Lillian Too’s Feng Shui Extravaganzas have become a firm date in the diary of anyone who takes feng shui at all seriously, but whether die-hard fan or once-a-year updater, this annual Sunday is most definitely a MUST-NOT-MISS event… 24

S
ingapore’s Extravaganza held at Suntec City Convention Center on Sunday Nov 20th buzzed with incredibly positive energy from the 2500-strong crowd made up of friends and followers from the world over. Friends and fans flew in from as far afield as America (North and South), Europe, Australia and New Zealand as well as from all over Asia to keep their “date” with Lillian. Over the years, this has become not just a fantastic learning event, but increasingly also a social one where likeminded individuals mix, mingle, catch up and share notes with Lillian and her team at WOFS, as well as with each other. The Lillian Too Alumni is a tightknit one – with classmates from Master
Practitioners and Master Consultants Courses at the Lillian Too Institute of Feng Shui using this event as an excuse to renew their ties. For Lillian herself, she says “It is simply so thrilling to catch up with students who have
over the years also become very good friends.” Carola flew in from New York, and said, “Although Lillian does not know me, she has helped me in more ways than she can imagine. I have
been reading her books and following her Extravaganzas and online courses since I was in College, and she has completely transformed my life.” She came with a bagful of designer scents in miniature bottles for Lillian, as she said “Lillian mentioned in one of her videos that there is no better feng shui than always being surrounded with beautiful fragrance. She said she never leaves with home without perfume, so this is just a small gift from New York as a small token of appreciation!”

Another lady from Singapore, whose sister lives in England, has been a regular Extravaganza attendee for over ten years now. She says her sister introduced her to Lillian Too’s feng shui, and before she used to attend just to pick up all the necessary feng shui cures and enhancers for her sister – but then she started to learn feng shui and applied it in her own life, and now she is even more of a “fanatic”! Also in attendance were all our friends, business partners and course graduates, who bring such wonderful energy to the event.
FIRST UP Lillian started up the morning session familiarizing her audience with the 2017 charts – first up was her Four Pillars analysis. Says Lillian, “It is not just important to know what each element means in each new year, but more important is how to make them work for you in the coming year.” And the best thing about all of Lillian’s talks is not just how clear she makes everything - with her catchy colorcoded charts and fully illustrated slides - but her incredible charisma and the spot-on way she explains how to make feng shui work for you. Chinese New Year comes early in the Year of the Rooster 2017, which is why the event is much earlier this year, to give everyone plenty of time to update the feng shui of their homes and living spaces before the new energies take hold. STAR CHANGES Flying Star feng shui is another major segment that needs to be addressed at the start of each new Lunar year. And while last year was a doom-and-
gloom “Black Year”, this year is a White One, which holds out a lot of promise. There are, as always, sectors to be careful of, those afflicted by malevolent stars, but if you install the appropriate cures, keep the right areas of the home quiet, and plan your feng shui correctly, you are bound to reap the benefits.
ASTROLOGY AND THE SPECIAL STARS A particularly exciting aspect of 2017 is the number of wonderfully auspicious stars there are to tap. Lillian explained the Polaris to her audience, with some incisive tips on how to make sure these lucky indications actualize for you. Feng shui should not be difficult, it should be precise. If you know precisely what to do, you won’t get it wrong. That is why Lillian Too’s
method of feng shui works, because she gives very explicit directions on what to do, how to do it, when to do it.
SHOPPING HAVEN The Extravaganza event is always a fab opportunity to pick up your cures and enhancers for the coming year at very special deals, as well as gifts and friends and family for Christmas season. You can also browse a huge range of auspicious jewellery, accessories and lifestyle products designed with auspicious insignia, syllables and mantras. There is a wide range to suit all tastes and budgets, but Lillian is resolute about just one thing – that with the mantras and magic syllables are properly designed, written and printed on – because just one syllable out or one calligraphy detail done wrong and they hold no power.
For those who missed Lillian Too’s Singapore event, do not miss her KL date on Sunday Dec 11th 2016 at the Istana Hotel in Kuala Lumpur! For tickets, buy online at www.wofs.com or any MPH Bookstore in Malaysia.

anticipating Dr Strange’s introduction to the next Avengers movie, as well as its own solo sequel. There is plenty of meaty material to make many sequels, and the world’s fascination with magic no doubt adds to this particular brand of superpowers. Dr Strange is not your usual buff, muscular or physically powerfully built hero; he looks tall and handsome in his own way, but physique-wise
F E N G SHUIWORLD | DECEMBER 2016 | www.fswmag.com
A movie about learning Magic - so good you must not miss it! Dr Strange, the latest of Marvel’s comic superheroes to make its debut on the big movie screen, elevates superheroism to a brand new level, featuring not just your everyday superpowers. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the highly-gifted neurosurgeon-turnedsorcerer, following a careerending car crash which leads him to Katmandu in search of a cure for his badly-maimed hands. But what he finds in the Himalayas is far more than regaining his dexterity… he learns to do magic! he is the guy next door, no different from your neighbour or your work colleague. He has a photographic memory, is a nerd by ability but not a nerd socially – he can recall all the names and release dates of every song – he has the good looks but also a hyper-intelligent brain, and that caddish arrogance all women seem to love. On top of all that, he has a sense of humour and a heart of gold. But what is most appealing about Dr Strange and his universe is the promise that magic is a skill that can be learned! In the storyline, magic is not inborn or inbred, it is a learnable expertise. Of course, Dr Strange himself has a calling, a natural ability coupled with a super high IQ, allowing him to access the very deepest of magic,
and quickly. But nevertheless, he trains in a school of magic alongside others who come from just as normal a prior background as he. He learns from a guru with shaved head dressed in monk’s robes, not unlike the monks from the Tibetan traditions of Buddhism. Known as “The Ancient One” and played by not a man, but a woman – Tilda Swinton, who really does play her to perfection – she commands the kind of charisma typically found in a wise sage or great religious leader. Every superhero movie needs a super-villain, and in this one, the role is filled by Mads Mikkelsen’s Kaecilius. Just as superheroes need to be intrinsically likeable, so do supervillains, whose lines are every bit as good as Dr Strange’s himself. Kaecilius has turned to the dark side, believing that their mutual guru The Ancient One has deceived her students – teaching them, but holding back the most important ingredient, saving that power for herself exclusively. Dr Strange can see the higher purpose behind her actions; Kaecilius, the baddie, cannot. In the end of course, good overpowers evil, and Dr Strange prevails. To set the stage for a sequel, there needs now to be a new baddie, so during the course of the film, we see Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, de facto right-hand man to
in our current world, but in a multitude of parallel existences. The Mirror Dimension for one represents a state where things that happen there do not affect the real world outside of it. The movie features magic mantras, yantras and glowing circles that appear with the wave of a hand, which turn into portholes that allow one to teleport one from one end of the world to another. And the magic – Tilda Swinton is “The Ancient One”, the guru of Doctor Stephen Strange. where you can literally conjure up weapons from nothing – is the Ancient One and who initially merely an advanced manipulation of recruits Dr Strange into the fold, the energy around us. switch sides. spaces to augment our wealth and income status, to heal ourselves, to stay healthy, and to love our families and get along with our friends… surely this is what magic is for. Lillian has also stressed again and again that white magic and black magic is the same – the only difference being the intention. But happily, in most cases, white magic will prevail, because motivation is the most important factor of all. A lesser wizard with purer motivation will be more powerful than one with suspect intentions. This leads on to the whole concept of karma, which by now the world is pretty well acquainted with. If more people believe in karma, the collective actions of the world could possibly make it a better place. We wish! In this movie, the Ancient One taps the powers of the Dark Dimension to make magic, but her intentions are sincere – to protect the world from being taken over by Dormammu, the Lord of the Dark

nswering the call of the Mountains takes me to Walnut Grove Marriot, a fabulous resort hotel high in the hills of Mussoorie overlooking the great Himalayas in the city of Dehradun. On a clear day, you can see the snow-capped peaks beyond the lavender hills facing us. The energy here is incredible and as the winds promise, great things manifest when Man and Mountains meet. I feel my spirits lift even before I reach the mountains of Mussoorie, for in Dehradun town itself, I behold a sight so supreme it takes my breath away. I want to share this gem of a place with readers. Mussoorie is easy to get to. You can fly to DEHRADUN via Delhi, and from there motor up the mountains of Mussoorie that stand on the edge of this city famous for its international schools and military academies. But the city of Dehradun holds a special place for me now because there is something you must see before driving up the mountain. This is the stunning statue of Guru Rinpoche done so beautifully it will take your breath away. The art, the proportions, and the splendid expression of the face of Guru Rinpoche is simply so exquisite. It is NEW and has only now been completed and on the day we come to see it, the consecration ceremonies are just being arranged. The grounds of MINDROLING monastery where the great statue is situated are beautifully landscaped. We are brought here by Khenpo Delek Rinpoche and his brother Lama Kunchok who are very distinguished alumni of Mindroling, and so it was that we could gain entrance into the statue and climb to the very top where we saw up close the Four Mahakalas of Guru Rinpoche. Here also I can wrap my arms around the enormous prosperity nectar vase placed there as an offering to Guru Rinpoche. It is an incredible experience, as the energy up there at the feet of the statue is extraordinarily enriching. We feel very blessed. The standing Guru Rinpoche here is quite likely the

lovely colonial style hotel that takes you into another world. It is like one is transported back to England! At the Marriot, the feel is more contemporary and the resort-like ambience is very engaging, although we soon realise from the pictures hung on the walls that the hotel has hosted some world-famous writers Khenpo and myself, with Mussorie mountains in the background.
here previously. We are reminded that while the hotel looks very modern, it has as illustrious a clientele as the more colonial-style Savoy. We feel the romance of India surround us as service here truly is impeccable. And Northern Indian food is divine! It is a huge bonus that I can feel the easy blending of samsara and spirituality, and it makes me realize that the mind is simply so amazing as it moves so seamlessly from one dimension to another, one cosmic realm to the next. By nightfall, we begin to feel the wondrous mistiness and cool night air of the mountain and it is very invigorating; wakes up my soul! Above, the skies are a bright indigo blue, and there are many millions of stars visible. The moon is also visible and it is a half-moon that tells me that we are going into the holy day of Guru Rinpoche. The stars are so close it seems like we can touch them. Mountains lift the soul and cleans the mind. Just breathing the air, I feel it; standing on the mountains and gazing into the horizon, I feel raised up high… it is an exhilarating experience and we go to sleep that night embraced by the energies of the Himalayas. I ask Khenpo to teach us to meditate. He smiles but says nothing. After some time when I ask again, he says, “OK we wake up early and meditate.” He then tells us to sit in meditation without too many layers of clothing. “But it will be cold,” I say feebly, wondering if I can bear the low temperatures of early mornings in the mountains. And Khenpo says, “Try... and sit for as long as you can…” I did try, and I could not haha!! The next morning, we wake up very early, but it is not to meditate but to do some practices. Indeed, it is Guru Rinpoche Day and a force greater than us wakes us up. We go into the cold morning air on the terrace to do a makeshift hour-long puja. I realize I have the whole puja on my iPad, both the audio as well as the practice text. It is an exceptional start to the morning. I pray that I can bring my friends and students here up to Mussoorie one day.

REUNION
NOSTALGIA
I
n September, I decided to “cross the great waters”, hop on the Cathay Pacific direct flight to New York and then to Boston to attend the 40th Reunion of my Class of ’76 MBA Program. I am not great at looking back nor am I a particularly nostalgic sort of person, but this time around, something quite Taoist inside my head prompted me to make the effort to reconnect with my classmates of a previous time of my life. I had been grounded for many months by a seriously frozen left side of my upper body that had stubbornly refused to unfreeze, causing me to be unbalanced and also quite immobile. But then I recalled an old Taoist Master telling me that crossing the great waters can rejuvenate the body, the

mind and the spirit – leading to faster recovery… and so it proved to be! It was altogether a good decision, as the three days spent in the beautiful grounds of the Harvard B School campus with many long forgotten classmates was very invigorating. Few places are as beautiful as Boston/ Cambridge in the Fall in the New England area of the USA. But it was also a very illuminating weekend in terms of getting updated on new business research and strategic overviews of management thinking. Over Reunion weekend, we - my husband and my nephew Han Jin and I - were very turned on by the lectures we attended as part of the Reunion Program. We also felt embraced by the energy of the campus grounds and the warmth of old classmates. Here in pictures, let me share some of the quite special HBS energy with readers!

Reunion Weekend at Harvard Business School is one big picnic, and as shown above, the campus is made up of many quadrangles such as this friendly green patch here. There is coffee and pastries through the day and here is where we sit to rest in between some quite ground-breaking lectures given by senior faculty members of the School. Here is also where we connect with friends and classmates. Dean’s lecture: I felt that the highlight of the Reunion was listening to the Update presentation given by the Dean of the School. Nitin Nohria became the 10th dean of Harvard Business School in July 2010. He previously served as co-chair of the Leadership Initiative, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Development, and Head of the Organizational Behavior unit.

His intellectual interests centre around human motivation, leadership, corporate transformation and accountability, and sustainable economic and human performance. Dean Nohria’s lecture focused on HBS looking ahead as he thanked benefactors and old students for their continuing support of the School. The main difference at the school is that during my time, HBS existed, according to Dean Nohria in “splendid isolation”. Today, there is more integration and cooperation with the other

Those were difficult days for me and for us as we had only been married then for a few years, and were actually trying to start a family, but he was most understanding that this was something I simply had to get out of my system! I did not have the money to accept the Offer of Admission, and those days I experienced frustration and a great deal of desperation; this is why I am always sympathetic to those who don’t have the funds to go to College.

Even for my first Degree, I had to pass up an Admission to Cambridge University in England because my Dad simply did not have the money then to send me to the UK. I was determined that I would not miss out on this second chance. My good friend Yap Cheng Hai told me then to use feng shui, so I activated my NW corner so a benefactor would materialize and come to my aid! This actually happened! My benefactor Nobleman – or Gui Ren as the Chinese call this kind of benefactor materialized for me I benefitted from the kindness of the late Tan Sri Thong Yaw Hong, who was then head of the EPU of the Government (Economic Planning Unit) who helped me win a United Nations fellowship that would pay my board and lodging and tuition fees for the two years at B School! I have remained forever grateful! I did everything I knew how to then, to get the money to go to Harvard, applying the principles of the KUA formula, sleeping and sitting facing my sheng chi direction, energizing the NW sector of my home and lighting up my education corner!
Reconnecting with classmates A big part of Reunion weekend was connecting with Section mates.
Here I am with Mario Moldanio from Mexico; Alex Tsherykow from Russia but now a US citizen living in Monaco, and Phil Friedman from Los Angeles – three very different guys who are now very successful each in their own field of expertise. We know each other well as we were Section mates then, belonging to Section D. Surprisingly, none of the three are retired, probably because they each run their own businesses, like me, so we have much to catch up on and to talk about. This picture was taken just after we had registered our attendance.
Here with MARGIE YANG, a very special alumnus from the Class of ’76. Margie is from Hong Kong and she is Chairman and majority shareholder of Esquel Enterprises, the largest shirt maker in the world! They have factories in China and all the countries of SE Asia, as they make shirts for every top brand in the world from Polo Ralph Lauren to Brooks Brothers et al! Margie Yang continues to be as down-to-earth and fun-loving as she was forty years ago, when we used to drink beer every Friday afternoon on the grounds facing Baker Library. She says to me, “We have the same strategy when it comes to hair colour!” Indeed! It’s the best way to cover all the grey hairs!
Parmelee Eastman my roommate for two years; Ellen Hoffman and Brigid Sullivan my Section mates – these ladies were “pioneers” at the School, amongst the first women to attend Business School at Harvard. All still working!
Catching up with Beth Sulak, my Section D classmate who lives in Boston.
My nephew, Han Jin who came with me and who takes care of our Internet and computer work efficiently and well here at WOFS is very much an IT guy and he was truly blown away by the lectures on Strategy issues in this digital age. He was especially interested in the HBX case, which offered plenty of research findings on the online training programs being offered by HBS. He will shortly enrol for the Core program! I was really thrilled he found the HBS reunion experience as illuminating and fun as I did, getting into the spirit of reconnecting with old friends of mine. religious culture and where ancient mountain worship is still very much practised. Against this background, we embarked on an epic journey to trace the footsteps of samurai, shoguns and Shugendo, a folk religion of animism with influence of Buddhism, Shintoism and Taoism. In essence, Shugendo seeks the path of enlightenment through strengthening the bond between man and nature. They believe nature is a manifestation of the gods and should be treated with respect. This deep revere for the

Futons and a small low table with seat cushions were the only furniture in the bare bedroom, evoking an ambience of pure relaxation. Early next morning, our landlord performed a morning blessing for us with a full ceremony and chanting to bless us and wished us safe journey to Mt Gassan and Mt Yudono.
A Yamabushi at Sanjin Gosaiden Shrine
We headed to Mt Gassan in howling wind and rain to visit a shrine. The pilgrimage trail was officially closed for the season, but we braved the elements by treading precariously on a path of slippery wooden walkway laid across a marshland of dwarf bamboo and grassland. After twenty minutes’ walk, we reached a small shrine presided by a giant stone rabbit, the guardian of the mountain. There were stone tablets with religious significance standing sentinel to the shrine. This mountain symbolised the path to death and it was apt that the short journey we took in the inclement weather seemed to convey the message. In the summer, pilgrims could hike to the summit where the main shrine lies and from there, they can also hike to Mt Yudono, the last mountain on the holy trail. Our visit to Mt Yudono was an epic experience where we were sworn to secrecy by the priest about the ceremony of “rebirth” that we under went to symbolise being spiritually reborn to start a new journey in life. It is forbidden to divulge the secret of the ritual, but suffice to say that the experience is something I will always remember. Mt Yudono was spectacular with autumn colours when we were there, and the sheer beauty of the red and gold foliage-clad mountain magnified the spirituality of the place.

The One-Eyed Dragon On a park on Aoba Hill overlooking Sendai city, the largest city in Tohoku, the statue of a samurai on a horseback commanded all that he surveyed. Clad in black armour and a helmet crowned with a golden crescent moon, Lord Date Masamune (1567 – 1636) cut a fearsome figure (Date is pronounced as “Datey”). He is celebrated in Japan as one of the most famous Daimyo or feudal lords of the 16th century in the early Edo period (1603 -1868) and hailed as the founder of Sendai. His castle, once stood there, is now a ruin with just the remains of the foundation.

As a child, he was ravaged by small pox and lost his right eye, earning him the moniker of a “Dokuganryu”, the one-eyed dragon, due to his many victories in battle. His first foray in frontline battle was when he was only 14 years old alongside his warrior father Date Terumune, against their rivals, the Souma family. through marriages of his children and relatives with neighbouring clans. His enemies feared him as a formidable warrior who took no prisoners in battle, where he would slaughter all the inhabitants of the places he conquered. Despite his fearsome reputation, Date was a learned and cultured man who was a visionary and a diplomat. He encouraged foreigners to visit his domain in Ohshu, now the present day Tohoku, and was eager to learn foreign technology and ideas from them while most rulers were wary of foreigners at that time. He was receptive to traders and Christian missionaries at a period when the ruling government of the Tokugawa Shogunate were taking steps to ban
Christianity. In a bold move, he funded an expeditionary voyage known as the Keicho Envoy Mission, and appointed Luis Sotelo a Spanish missionary as his senior envoy and his trusted retainer Hasekura Tsunenaga as deputy envoy. With a retinue of 180 people, they set off on a trade and diplomatic mission to Rome to establish a relationship with Pope Paulus V, an audience with King Felipe III of Spain and visits to the Philippines and Mexico, which were under Spanish rule at the time. They sailed in a

ship called San Juan Bautista using European shipbuilding technology. The Sendai Museum is a treasure trove of information about Date, the Keicho Envoy Mission and other historical facts about Sendai. Before leaving Sendai, we paid respects to Date at his resting place, the Zuihoden mausoleum in a peaceful cedar forest on a hill. The magnificent tomb is built in the ornate architectural style of the Momoyama period (15731603) in Date’s signature colour of black, accented by bright colours, predominantly gold, with intricate woodwork. It was burnt down during World War II in 1945 and a replica of the original building was built in 1979. Senior members of the Date family are also entombed here. His mausoleum is flanked on both sides by 20 memorial headstones of his faithful vassals and subordinates who followed the samurai tradition of committing suicide known as junshi when their master died, as an act of loyalty. Today, Date is immortalised in films, anime and video games, and his name is a byword for bravery and “badass” character.
The Last Samurai The last leg of our journey took us to Aizuwakamatsu or Aizu for short, a historic castle town known as the
“land of the last samurai”. It was the military and political centre of the region, and renowned for its many celebrated samurai commanders who were Aizu Lords. It was the location of a civil war between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the new Meiji government in the Boshin War in 1868, a power struggle between feudal and modern Japan. Although the Aizu clan fought bravely, including holding on in a siege at Tsuruga Castle, they were no match to the new weaponry of guns and cannons of the Meiji government. Aizu became the scene of the last battle of the samurai. Many lives were lost and the government banished the samurai from the area. Tsuruga Castle was burnt down but reconstructed in 1965 and houses a great museum charting the history of the samurai culture and the Boshin War. Aizu is also on the pilgrimage trail of the famous 33 Kannon Buddha temples in the region. Kannon, known as Kuan Yin or Goddess of Mercy to the Chinese, was known to have 33 manifestations. We visited a few temples in the area and most were modest wooden structures, some set in isolated location in the forest. Pilgrims would attempt to complete the circuit of the 33 temples in their devotion. Along the way, we visited Ouchijuku, a cultural museum in the town of Shimogo on the ancient trade route in the Edo period, where merchants

and feudal lords would pass this way to rest. It is a street of replicas of old traditional villages with thatched roof and bustling shops selling food, drinks and souvenirs. We had lunch in a quaint Takato Soba restaurant where cold soba noodles were eaten with a stick of leek with a kink at the end to scoop the noodles instead of chopsticks. We had a hilarious time battling with the leek and eventually resorted to using chopsticks. As a fitting end to our amazing journey in Tohoku, we took a short cruise on Lake Inawashiro enjoying the beautiful scenery around the lake, as swans and ducks frolicked in the water. It is a popular place for recreation for the local people, but the lake is the lifeline of the area by providing water for agriculture and hydro-electricity. As my eyes took
in the beauty of the lake, the words of the famous 17th century haiku poet Matsuo Basho, came to my mind -“Travel is life. Life is travel.” I had the most enlightening travel life experience in Tohoku. In his famous poem “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, Basho waxed lyrical about travelling in the north of Japan including a visit to Tohoku. I salute him on that sentiment. THE MAGIC OF SPIRITUAL FENG SHUI by Hanni Lim
Students Learn to Release Their Psychic Power
They made their way to Malaysia from many countries to learn powerful, life-changing magic from Lillian Too, each not quite knowing what to expect, but they all came because of their trust in her. Having studied several Feng Shui Courses with her, now they want to go deeper, much deeper into the promised spiritual dimension of the ancient practice of feng shui. Everyone who attended Lillian Too’s Course on THE COSMIC DIMENSION OF SPIRITUAL FENG SHUI came on a “BY INVITATION ONLY” basis. Through the week, they were taught to use their physical, vocal and mental skills to release the power within their body, speech and mind. The goal was to delve deep within themselves to gain the power to actualise fervent wishes into ordinary reality.

illian spent many hours training them in empowerment and consecration rituals, and by the end of the week, there were huge smiles and everyone felt their energy overflowing with bliss. On graduation night, they wore their white and yellow magician’s robes proudly! On that night, they partied hard allowing their happiness free rein. It was a wondrously magical week! JADY ASTGEN from CAMBODIA said, “I’ve always wanted to meet Lillian Too. I’ve always felt she is one of my “destiny gurus”, even back when she didn’t know me. I’m sure we have a past life connection! I’ve come for MPC and MCC, where I made such great friends! They convinced me to come for this

As a businesswoman, every day is a battlefield and I know I need to be armed with amulets for protection so that I can enjoy victory over my competitors, and to ensure my clients continue to like doing business with me. I really loved being taught how to make a Wealth Cabinet and how to make our own amulets. What a great Course! I also feel the Windhorse flag ritual is very effective in actualising our wishes; a lot of good things happened to our family and business after doing it! “ JOYCE MACABUHAY (also from the Philippines) enjoyed the meditation exercises taught in the mornings. “It is something so new to me, and so different from what

Using our mind and chanting mantras can be so powerful!” Another student, NAVNIET SAINE a banker from New Delhi, India echoed similar sentiments. “I’m a division manager in a bank and reading Lillian’s books brought me to her. I’ve been waiting for this course for a long time and am so happy she is finally teaching it, and that I was able to come. As a working professional, it is not easy to get time off, but I love coming to WOFS.” “I love the compassionate attitude of Lillian and her team. When I need a break, I come to learn more from Lillian!” “Both the MPC and MCC courses helped my business grow a lot! We got so busy that coming here was a way to get away to relax! I also came to deepen my knowledge. It piqued my interest to learn about spiritual feng shui so I can help not just myself and my family, but also others. I look forward to taking what I’ve learned and putting it to use when I get back home! shui helped my husband gain a big promotion, which allowed us to change our lives for the better. I decided not to work for an organization so that I could look after our young children, and also pursue my hobby of feng shui as a professional path. I came for the MPC and also went for pilgrimage to Bodhgaya with Lillian. “I trust Lillian’s reputation and the quality of her teaching. Although I didn’t know the contents of this Course, I had a lot of trust in my master and a great desire to grab whatever opportunity I had to learn from dearest Lillian. One of my friend’s clients was having problems renting out their apartment for six months. Some prospective tenants would visit the property, but nobody would rent the place. I explained to her that she needed to appease the local spirits of the apartment with incense. She did it and within the next day, she found someone to rent the place!” One of the most popular of participants was DANNY CHAN Regional Director of J.W. Marriot Hotel group from SINGAPORE tells us that the loss of his mother and desire to improve himself led him to learn feng shui and discover Lillian. He says, “I’ve attended both her MPC and MCC, and honestly, I should have just come to her earlier in my life! Learning anything from Lillian is a real joy. Another wonderful thing about Lillian’s course is meeting beau tiful and lovely classmates of like minds, living across the globe… who have become such wonderful friends to me! And they were all coming for this Course... so how could I possibly miss it?” YENNI GUNAWAN, Business lady from INDONESIA s a y s , “ I ’v e b e e n interested in feng shui since I was young. After having children, I decided to take a break from my job and pursue my hobby in feng shui. I really believe it can help people and make life a Yenni lot easier. That’s what Gunawan motivates me to read
Lillian’s books and sign up for her classes. After the MPC and MCC, I was interested in this Course because I wanted to learn more spiritual methods to help others who need my help. One couple I know who have been married for more than 10 years could not have children. Through their aunt, they came to me for help. I advised them to use pomegranates and I also taught them how to pray. Soon the couple became pregnant! LENA HARILELA from Hong Kong “I’m so thrilled that I came for this course! This branch of feng shui is really quite exciting and I just love how Lillian makes chanting mantras so easy, with the little book and her explanations!” DATO’ EDMUND LEE from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia “I’m a ‘foot doctor’ and I own a chain of clinics. Lillian is a very famous feng shui master in Malaysia, who doesn’t know her? I’ve read some
of her books and was keen to learn from her, but honestly, did not know what to expect. When I came for the MPC, I discovered that Lillian has a lot of real substance and precious knowledge to share! During her class, she taught a bit of spiritual feng shui. I had amazing results when chanting the Green Tara Mantra, so I wanted to come to learn more! I would have to say that making amulets was really good fun! I didn’t know that someone like me could learn how to make them!” CHANDIMA DE ALWES from Sri Lanka “There was this feng shui master in Sri Lanka who studied feng shui from Lillian – his name is Mr Asin Wanigarathna. Last month, Sri Lanka was having a big drought and for months there was no rain. Many people were suffering terribly. I wrote to WOFS, asking them for a mantra to chant for rain and what to do. Lillian and Hanni gave me the invocations to chant and instructions on what to do by the river. Like a huge miracle, rain started coming bit by bit each day and soon there was rain everyday! Amazing.”
LYNNE CONDER from AUSTRALIA My husband Phil and I own a few businesses together. The one I manage is in palliative care, which gives medical care to people who are very ill and likely to pass away soon. I got to know about Lillian since year 2000 and we’ve been following her ever since. I’ve attended almost all her Extravaganzas and also MPC. My work can be very stressful, so feng shui was a great help in this. Two years ago, I came for Lillian’s Tara Retreat with Khenpo Delek Rinpoche, and I’ve also been with her to Bodgaya twice. Lillian has made such an amazing and positive impact in the lives of my family, and it was natural for me to keep coming back to learn more. I’ve always been a spiritual person, but Buddhism and spiritual feng shui has brought so much happiness and answers to me. I came for Magic Class a few years ago, so this was my second time attending this Course. I discovered that the more I learn, the more I feel that there is so much I don’t yet know and there is really so much more to learn! Since coming for the Tara Retreat (after my first Magic Course) I felt that I would benefit a lot more from coming for Magic Class a second time, so that’s why I came again. I’m really glad I did as there is a lot of new material being taught in this class that wasn’t in the previous one! First-hand experience of good results in using spiritual feng shui: Spiritual feng shui has become a daily practice for me and I have been so blessed in so many ways with the knowledge and use of spirituality. I praise Lillian Too for showing me how wonderful and powerful Goddess Tara is, and through Lillian’s love and devotion to Goddess Tara, I too love her and am so grateful to have this beautiful deity in my life. So thank you Lillian for your teachings. Also, thank you for making such beautiful objects to place I my home! I especially love the Buddhas and deities – my 21 Taras! And I can’t wait to take home these new small 21 Tara Set that you’ve just made! My family and I are so thankful that you printed the Chant a Mantra book – I feel very safe when I carry it and I love the mantras and sutras and the explanations! So “thank you” is so small a word to say for so many life’s blessings you’ve given the world.

two years ago, I can really say she has transformed my life and I feel I’ve become a much happier, better-tempered person. I love the information given on the mantras, and it is fabulous to know how to chant which mantra and for what purpose. This Course made me want to be an even better Buddhist and more determined to chant the mantras and memorize them by heart. I’m sure I can overcome the obstacles to memorize them!”

SVETLANA SHEVCHENKO from UKRAINE (living in Australia) “Before this, I had already learnt feng shui and come for Lillian’s Tara Retreat. I enjoy so much chanting Tara mantras and praying to Tara. In the retreat, we learnt to pray to Mother Tara but nothing much was explained about her. In this Course, I learnt so much more about the 21 Taras and how to chant her mantras properly, and what each mantra is used for. I liked this a lot. I tried to have a second baby for a year, but it did not happen. So I wrote to WOFS for advice and she advised me to invite White Fertility Tara into my life and to start chanting her mantra. Within a month I was pregnant! I was really happy!” ESTHER LOW, business lady from SINGAPORE. “I’ve been following Lillian since 2004 through her books and her Extravaganzas in Singapore. I just love what she teaches on feng shui. I made my husband Eldric sign up for MPC with Lillian and I myself came for the Tara Retreat course that was offered two years ago with Delek Rinpoche. Since coming for Tara Retreat and my husband learning feng shui from her, our lives have been amazing. We are always surrounded by good people and my friends have even noticed how I’ve become more “compassionate” and less aggressive at work! Since Tara came into my life

First-hand experience of good results in using spiritual feng shui: Whenever I feel depressed or sad, I chant all the mantras I know from the Chant-a-Mantra Book. Somehow it makes me feel happier and more energized. I also do regular incense offerings once a week and sur offering for hungry ghosts in the 7th month. I feel that my house is so blessed and safe. Last year, my neighbour who lived directly across from me was robbed despite the fact that they have CCTV, extra security and guard dogs. Meanwhile my house, whose gate and main door is often left unlocked has so far been spared from this, and nothing like this has happened to us. I re a l l y b e l i e v e t h a t somehow, when we pray, and place all these amazing feng shui objects made by Lillian, the Buddhas really do come and live in our houses and protect us from all sorts of dangers. All this would not be possible without the teachings of Lillian and her team. Lillian is the one making and bringing magic into our lives. We love you Auntie Lillian very much! I really hope to have the chance to learn as much as I can with Lillian! SHYAN YOON & JACKIE SIA from Kuala Lumpur Shyanyoon says “I used to chant mantras when I was a kid. I believe a lot in spirituality and astrology as my

uncle was a medium. My grandparents are great devotees to Guan Yin, so I feel our family are always protected by her. I really liked learning how to chant the mantras properly – the correct way and the tone. Uncle Phillip taught us to do the incense offering practice early this year as Jackie’s house had local spirits disturbing. After making some feng shui changes and chanting the mantras, our sales increased and life was a lot smoother. But what was really impressive was when my 85 year old grandfather fell sick and it was quite serious, Uncle Phillip advised us to chant the Medicine Buddha and Amitayus Buddha when he was in hospital. I also took my White Tara mirror and reflected it over his body. His condition improved and he was discharged from hospital.” BENJEMEEN HENG Interior Design Consultant from SINGAPORE “I started learning feng shui from Lillian in 2013 and since then have begun reciting some of the mantras from Chant a Mantra. My life changed. I became calmer, things worked well for me and most importantly, my motivation got purer and more positive. When Connie emailed me about this Course, I signed up immediately as I have great faith in Lillian and know that whatever I learn from her is sure to benefit people. I really enjoyed learning how to do the Smoke and Sur

This Course has given me a much better understanding of my practice.” YUKO ODATE Advertising Consultant from JAPAN “I’ve been in the advertising business for many years. I discovered feng shui through Lillian’s books and magazine, which prompted me to come to learn feng shui from her. I learnt feng shui from someone else before coming to her, and I’m glad that I made the decision to come and meet Lillian. I’ve learnt a lot in MPC and MCC and now I am ready to learn more about spiritual feng shui. I have hopes that it will help to enhance and empower my mind. I enjoyed discovering and invoking the Goddess Tara and Guru Rinpoche. How interesting! It really gave me a much deeper understanding of what they were about. It has sparked my interest in the cosmic universe and I would like to go deeper and study deeper.”

There really is a method to everything, and this Course has taught me a lot! Shelley got to know Lillian through her books while still living in India back in 1996. “I’ve been using space feng shui for a long time, but after attending Lillian’s MPC and MCC in 2014 and 2015, I feel my life has improved so much more. I’m so grateful to have found Lillian! “I was so thrilled
Lillian was offering this Course this year, and that I could make it! I hope to be able to use what I learnt to benefit my friends, family and anyone who has contact with me. Thank so much for sharing this beautiful and invaluable knowledge with us Lillian. I feel really privileged to learn about these things.”

KEITH KEE
15 GLORIOUS YEARS AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME! By Dato Kee Hua Chee
Held on 21 Nov 2016 at the Pullman KLCC in Bukit Bintang, Keith Kee’s 15th anniversary fashion extravaganza was a melange of show, showmanship and one-upmanship as Keith Kee toasted and roasted himself to celebrate a true coming of age.
I
f there were any Doubting Thomases, they must have left before the show started, as Keith Kee outdid himself again. Just when we thought he had reached his apex, he scaled new heights before 400 guests and promised the best is still to come! The first time Keith Kee held his extravaganza was 5 years ago when
he celebrated his 10th anniversary with a mammoth fashion show. The event was considered the epic fashion presentation of the year and soundly applauded. That was followed by his 12th Anniversary Fashion Gala and on 29 July 2016, he officially passed his 15th year since establishing his brand. Now this youthful veteran is
Keith Kee at grand finale.

repeating the feat with another epochal event to toast 15 years in the fashion industry. Yet it almost did not happen! Initially, Keith Kee was of two minds over holding a lavish event, but in March of 2016, he was awarded ‘Best Showcase Designer of the Year’ at the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Festival awards. “This award was the momentum I needed! I was never told in advance about my winning, nor did I expect anything, so when my name was called, I was backstage packing and did not even hear my name until someone rushed to drag me out!” recalls the amiable couturier. This was his second award as he won ‘Dress of the Year’ award in 2009, also at Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Awards. “I had 8 months and immediately set about designing and planning my 15th year in the fashion industry.” ‘MARK OF A MASTERPIECE’ IN 5 PARTS Fifteen years hardly left any wrinkles on his face, but despite his baby face

demeanour, he is now self-assured and brimming with confidence. He told me before the show, “I used to shake in my shoes when I had to go onstage to make a speech, but strangely, I now feel so calm. I used to wish I was short-sighted so I could go on stage without my contact lenses so everyone and everything would appear blurry and indistinct! Now I am so cool about it!” He must be, as he has named his collection the grandiose epithet of ‘Mark of a Masterpiece’! No false modesty here after 15 years! I accuse him of self-aggrandising. He shakes his head, “As Keith Kee Couture is not mass-produced, each made-to-measure dress is Haute Couture in every sense of the word, with up to 3 fittings. Even my readyto-wear outfits are considered demicouture due to superior design, cut, workmanship and flawless finishing touches. Anyway, my customers are the ones describing my clothes as ‘masterpieces’! So after hearing the word so many times, I decided to use it! Don’t say I am showing off ok! “Actually, my friends say I am not being business-minded to make oneoff dresses, as it is not cost effective. By right I should make 3 dresses each

in Small, Medium and Large, totalling 9 pieces from 1 pattern, so I can lower the prices yet make more money. But I am a couturier at heart and I never repeat the same design with the same fabric. This is my niche! So far I am not starving also, so I will stick to couture!” Keith Kee originally trained as a cheongsam maker, deemed as most difficult segment as not every client has an ideal figure. Yet this maestro is able to conjure cheongsam magic by adroitly wrapping the torso in flattering silhouettes that enhance the natural contours of the wearer. “My mother is a seamstress in Perak

where I was born, but I grew up in Penang, so I consider myself a Penangite,” he says. “I used to help my mother after school and learned the basics of pattern-making, cutting and sewing from her. I loved fashion and wanted to be a fashion designer. My mother supported me, but not my dad, who said I could be anything except a fashion designer! “But I had to follow my heart, so we made a deal. If I failed after two years, I would switch to be, of all things, an electrician or plumber, as dad said I would never starve as everyone needs an electrician or plumber and I would never be out of a job! “My mum saved enough money for me to go to Taiwan for six months to learn how to make cheongsam. I returned home and within six months made enough money to repay mum!” Ironically, cheongsam is not included in his 15th anniversary soiree! Explains Keith Kee, “I am so associated with cheongsam since Day One it is not necessary for me to concentrate on this. Also a cheongsam by its very nature is limited in scope, as I cannot feature pants, billowy sleeves or layering.” This 60-piece, 15th anniversary collection ‘Mark of a Masterpiece’ comes in 5 parts, beginning with Miss

Dr Soo Wincci is an accomplished singer, actress, model, host, chef and composer. Instead of standing looking pretty, she stunned the audience and drew gasps as she twisted and turned inside a gigantic ring suspended from the ceiling! Almost Cirque de Soleil and certainly very flexible for a 31 year old! PART 1 TRANSFORMATIONS This collection started the show with show-stopping short party dresses in jewel tones that changed fantastically to gold and black long evening dresses in one second flat! Loud applause was elicited nonstop as model after model shape-shifted like a magic show. How the models did it remains a secret until you buy one! “I want to surprise and amuse my clients! I have been planning this collection for a very long time and hope my clients, VIPs and media will be impressed.” Wish granted! PART 2 PARTY DRESSES Mostly in ivory and gold, these party frocks simply rock! “You can wear them day and night, as they are perfect for leisure and casual occasions, yet will make you feel luxurious and glamorous. They are worn by models during this round, highlighted by live performances by top violinist Dennis Lau and fabulous singer Atilia Haron”. PART 3 CASUAL TO COUTURE COLLECTION Starts with a seemingly casual dress that transforms into a high fashion outfit! Each dress offers different looks, as each can be worn several ways. An instant DIY system that expands your wardrobe mileage! It takes more than a second, as the makeover consumes a few minutes with Keith Kee and assistant coming on stage with individual bustiers, corsets, ruffles and adds-on to alter the original look beyond recognition.
“This collection took me so long to design but I think the result is worth all my restless nights!” PART 4 AH-MEN AND WOWWOMEN A Haute Couture ensemble of men’s suits and women’s gowns. Modelled by 10 top female and 10 top male models from Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Mongolia, China, Hong Kong and Thailand. The 20 models are participating in Runway Model Search Asia 2017 and this is their first professional appearance. They are staying in Malaysia for a month filming a reality TV show, and the finals will be in February 2017.”
were purchased right after the show! Crows Keith Kee, “2016 is a red banner year for me. I waited 15 years to win Best Designer Showcase of the Year and my father attended this show for the first time! So I guess it took him 15 years to agree fashion designing is also a proper career, and like all jobs, if you are good and hardworking, you will not starve or be forced to eat porridge and salted fish, which by the way is now a luxury dish served in fine restaurants as I told my father!” Each guest also received the 2017 calendar starring 13 celebrities. LEARNING TO
by SHAHREEN KAMALUDDIN
Love
YOURSELF
Loving yourself is the greatest gift you can give yourself, because it is only from a place of love, which is the essence of your authentic self, that you can create everything that is beautiful and joyful to support your life. that you can regain control of your life by ensuring positive thoughts, words, feelings throughout each day, which will ensure your state of being is vibrating on high frequencies.
T
he idea of loving yourself is foreign to some people and feels uncomfortable to many. You may have g row n u p t h i n k i n g that loving yourself is somehow selfish and self-centred. It may be easier to understand why you should love others, but the idea of loving yourself may not sit well with you.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A HEALTHY SELF-CONCEPT It is so important to have a healthy image of yourself because you do not see the world as it is, but as you are.
60
This means that you see the world through your filters - your attitude, beliefs, perceptions and judgements of yourself. How you see yourself influences your view of life, your decisions and your experiences.
EVERYTHING IS CREATED ON THE INSIDE FIRST To be able to create a life of your choosing, you need to consciously ensure that your self-image is in alignment with the life you wish to create. If you have a low self-esteem, you will not become your best self and live your best life. In my last article “Take back your Power”, I stressed
F E N G SHUIWORLD | DECEMBER 2016 | www.fswmag.com
HIGH FREQUENCIES ENSURE ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR GOALS Whatever your problem - whether financial, relationships or health - the root cause is lack of self-love. Loving yourself is the most fundamental act which over time can improve your finances, your relationships and your health. Love heals everything. When you love yourself, you will return to your core self where true love resides, and real healing takes place.
THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS LOVING YOURSELF IS TO DEVELOP SELF-AWARENESS I wrote a book titled “Know yourself – The truth will set you free” in which
Learning to love yourself involves accepting yourself unconditionally as you are Accept and love every part of your mind and body. Slowly but surely, you will begin to have the greatest love and respect for each part of your mind and body, and how well they have served you throughout the years. Speak to each part of your mind and body with great respect and gratitude
I dedicated a chapter to the subject of learning to love yourself. But before you can learn to love yourself, you have to be aware of the ways you do not love yourself. When you are aware of what you are doing that is causing misalignment with your goals, you can embark on a plan of position action.
Ways you do not love yourself enough When you consciously or unconsciously create a situation which disempowers you, your state of being will be vibrating on low frequencies, causing you to attract people and circumstances which match your vibration. The result will move you further away from your goal. When you scold and criticise yourself Be aware of the ways in which you criticise your mind or your body - too short or too tall, too thin or too fat, too fair or too dark. Your hair is the wrong colour, texture or style. Your personality is not up to mark. You don’t speak with confidence, you are not smart enough, not rich enough. This pattern of thinking will depress you, and you will feel disempowered. And you cannot create positive change from a place of disempowerment. Only when you feel good about yourself can you dream big. When you love yourself, you will believe in yourself. You will see endless possibilities and feel confident to achieve your dreams.
“I love and respect my mind and body.” “I love and respect my brain. I am in awe at how well it functions.” “I have beautiful lips and a beautiful smile.” “I love my beautiful and healthy body.” “I love my hair.” “I am so grateful for all my organs. They have served me well and given me life.” The truth is that your body hears every word you say and responds accordingly to the quality of your thoughts, words and feelings. Speaking to your mind and body with love and respect will result in better health, well-being and peace.
Focus on your good qualities: “I have a kind, gentle and generous nature.” “My culinary skills bring joy to others.” “I am a great parent to my kids.” “I am a good, honest person.” “I am a good and loyal friend.” The more you approve of yourself, the more you will love and appreciate yourself. The more your self-concept improves, the more others will love you and accept you as you are. Your self-confidence and positive energy will attract respect from other people.
Feeling bad about most things You have an inner critic which spots
your every mistake and flaw, resulting in you feeling bad about yourself. When you become overly self-critical, you will be critical of others and attract into your life other critical people who add to your self-criticism. Your life’s experiences reflect your own image of yourself. Your self-concept dictates how other people respond to you, so you really are in control of your life and can change the whole scenario of your life. The following is a suggestion on how to love yourself.
Speak to yourself with great respect Your subconscious mind acts out your internal dialogue, so you eventually become what you believe. Knowing this, you can consciously delete your negative internal dialogue and install a positive dialogue for who you want to be. Repeat the following positive affirmations. “I am becoming more positive every day.” “I am proud of myself for having come this far.” “I believe in myself and trust myself to make the right decisions. “I am awesome!” “I attract wonderful friends.” When you feel good about yourself, your positive energy is aligned with your intention. When you feel bad, you are misaligned with your intention.
Do you find it difficult to assess your true worth? Do you find it hard to put a price on your expertise, service or time? Do you look to others to validate your true value? When you are asked what salary you are looking for, do you prefer others to make you an offer to see how they assess your worth? Likewise, when you have a new product you wish to sell, are you confident putting your price on it? Do you fear that no one will buy your product? When you hold yourself in high esteem in your own eyes, you will know your true worth. When you are self-confident, your worth will be respected by others.

as well as bad. That is why it is difficult to accept any suggestion that you would want to create illness or pain in your body. This can happen in many ways. Illness can result from long-held limiting beliefs, negative attitudes, distorted perceptions, repressed anger and fear of all kinds. The body is a printout of the mind. The state of your health is a good indication of all your beliefs about yourself and life. When you truly love yourself, you are happier, healthier and more productive.
“I love and respect my brain. I am in awe at how well it functions.”
“I am a good, honest person.”
When you delay or deny your own good in any way Sometimes you may delay seeking the help you urgently need, like going to see a counsellor, a doctor or dentist when you are in pain. It may take only a two-minute call to secure an appointment, which will bring you relief, yet you delay taking action to heal your pain, because you are busy with other things. Likewise, you could delay calling the electrician, plumber or repair man because you are too busy. In the meantime, the inconvenience causes you so much stress. When you love yourself enough, you will not delay any decision that can improve your life. When you create illness and pain in your body It is difficult to accept the fact that you create all of your experiences, good
When you overwork, overeat and indulge in harmful addictions All addictions are choices. When you take pride in overwork, you will tend to neglect the need to love, care and nurture your mind and body. These addictions often pose as valid excuses for stress, overwork, depression and disappointments in life. When you love yourself enough, you will never do anything that will harm yourself. You would cherish your mind and body like the temple they are meant to be, so that they guide you well throughout your life. Learning to love yourself again To experience pure love and joy, you have to return to your core self where true love, joy and peace resides. t'JOE UJNF UP TJU JO TJMFODF Meditate to connect with your true self. t%P TPNFUIJOH FWFSZ EBZ UIBU makes you happy.

FENG SHUI OBSERVATIONS Some auspicious (and not-so-auspicious) feng shui sightings during our journey in India. One thing’s for sure. J.W. Marriot chain of hotels sure knows how to incorporate good fortune feng shui symbols everywhere in their hotels! $PNQJMFECZHANNI LIM
MONEY WALL
WELCOMING MUDRAS We just love coming to India, and especially landing at Delhi airport! Not only is there a special lane dedicated to first and business class travellers, you’re put instantly in a good mood when greeted by these amazing gigantic MUDRAS at the immigration counter! Mudras are powerful hand gestures that are used to create magic and here in this photo we see the wish-granting mudra, the wealth-granting mudra and the dispelling-obstacles mudra! Namaste!
We spotted a really neat feng shui idea at a Tibetan restaurant in Dehrahdun. Khenpo and Kunchok took us to “Kelsang’s Place”, a wonderful eatery that cooks up the most delicious honey-coated french fries and cheese momos. Next to their entrance is a large wall adorned completely with dollar bills donated by their happy patrons, along with well wishes scribbled on them. You can see from the wall that Kelsang’s place has hosted happy customers from all four corners of the globe; there were currencies from .BMBZTJB 3VTTJB 64" 6, &VSPQF $IJOB .POHPMJB ɨBJMBOE Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and more! An auspicious prosperity wall like that is sure to attract excellent feng shui; we certainly felt very happy there and ordered a lot more food than we could eat! Just before leaving, we contributed a Malaysian note to the wall, along with an auspicious wish for Kelsang’s continued prosperity!
PAKUAS ABOVE OUR HEADS We’re sitting here at the J.W. Marriot Airport Hotel’s Executive Lounge for breakfast, on the morning before our flight to Dehrahdun, and noticed the fancy Pa Kua motif in the ceilings! Good feng shui? Well, one positive effect is that it keeps the negative vibes at bay… and this is definitely a good protection symbol for a layover hotel that receives thousands of travellers from all sorts of places across the globe every day…

FENG SHUI OBSERVATIONS LONG CORRIDORS This is one thing that hotels, especially layover ones, seem to have which I’m not exactly fond of! The one in JW Marriot Delhi seemed to stretch for miles. Surely these endlessly long corridors can’t bring good feng shui! The negative thing about long corridors is that the energy tends to move too quickly.., and should your hotel room be at the end of the corridor, my advice is to insist on changing rooms immediately! But the Marriot has done a good job of softening the chi with lots of strategically placed ambient lighting along the corridors and a good mix of yin and yang colours, plus interesting art pieces to catch your attention, slowing you down while you walk. This can really help the chi to slow down and reduce its harmful effects. I’m also happy to note that I did not notice any rooms at the end of the corridors. In fact, I slept very well in both the Marriot hotels I stayed in during this trip! Their beds were incredibly comfy!
FLYING BIRDS ON THE WALL Excellent feng shui of course! A school of birds bring plenty of business opportunities and good tidings when placed on the wall like the one you see in this picture here. We spotted this on UIF XBMM PG i$FEBS 4QB CZ -0DDJUBOFw BU UIF J.W. Marriot Walnut Grove in Mussorie, and it would have been a really super auspicious feature… but alas, the birds seemed to be flying outwards towards the entrance of the Spa rather than inwards. My advice would be to place them on the opposite side of the wall to let them fly inwards instead, and if they do implement this change, I’m fairly confident the Spa is sure to be overbooked!
THE MIGHTY “GRIFFIN” Protection symbols exist in all cultures and traditions, and they can be truly formidable guardians against misfortune and bad luck. Marriot’s protector is the majestic GRIFFIN, a mythical creature with the head, wings and front talons of an eagle, and the body, tail and hind paws of a lion. This is a fierce and powerful being indeed... as the Eagle is the King of Birds, while the Lion is the King of all land animals! In ancient Egypt and Iranian times, a Griffin statue would always grace the doors of treasure houses and high temples to protect priceless possessions of kings and religious orders. Indeed, we felt very safe and well looked-after at the Marriot, as the Griffin insignia could be seen everywhere – at the entrance of the hotel, on our key card, etched on windows and emblazoned on stationery and towels.

very once in a while we meet someone who appears very ordinary but can really inspire us with their extraordinary attitude about life. This week I had the good fortune to meet Lillian Too’s former classmate from school and university – Datin Jeannie Chung, a vibrant and upbeat lady in her upper prime (she doesn’t want us to reveal her age) whose looks and attitude towards life defies her age. I’ve heard of Jeannie before; my aunt Lillian used to tell me how girls at their school were intimidated by Jeannie the beauty. She would say, “My badminton partner and classmate was so pretty, I almost developed a complex standing next to her. She was really so beautiful... bright eyes

and gorgeous hair. She looked like Elizabeth Taylor.” She’s still as beautiful as ever, and very real and every bit as human as human gets. Jeannie’s life is the perfect Prom Queen story. Growing up in Penang, she was famous for being smart and mega beautiful… the girl every boy wanted to snag as their girlfriend. As you’d expect, Jeannie ended up marrying someone whose life reads like a Prom King – a handsome, dashing and most eligible young man from Penang. Her late husband Dato’ Dr Lim Say Wan, who excelled at every facet of academics and sports, went on to become one of the country’s most celebrated and accomplished in the medical field. Most Malaysians of Lillian Too’s generation know and remember Dato’

She brought his resume which was IMPRESSIVE! Just reading about his contributions in the field of anesthesiology and medicine, I am surprised someone has not written about him. In the last month of my husband’s life, Justin set up an ICU environment in our bedroom; he managed my husband’s medications and monitored him from morning to night for a whole month!” “On the last day of Say Wan’s life, all of us were present. He held my hand and told me ‘I love you very much but it’s time for me to go’ … and then closed his eyes; then he left us.” This was eight years ago, but she said it to me with such clarity as if it had happened yesterday. There were no tears in her eyes or sadness in her voice. It was clear that Jeannie is in a good place now. She had let it all go and moved on in the healthiest way and telling me all this was her way of recollecting cherished memories of someone truly special who shared forty years of happiness with her.
MOVING ON & LIVING LIFE After his death, her boys and her closest friends rallied around her to take care of her. “My eldest boy Julian was just so wonderful. He knew that I would feel a sense of loss now that Say Wan was no longer there, so he slept in my bedroom (on a mattress on the floor) every night for over a year so that I would not feel lonely or scared. Till today, he has dinner with me every night from Monday to Thursday so that I won’t have to eat alone. Unless of course if I’ve got dinner plans with friends! I’m really blessed to have him in my life. My youngest boy also sees me regularly… in fact, today he is leaving his four dogs with me while he goes to Singapore for two days.” “I also had very caring friends who called me regularly. I have to mention two wonderful ladies who called me every single day to check on me and made sure I was ok. One was Puan Sri Tan Lee Hong Jegathesan, and also my friend Dr Sieh Mei Leng. So go out! What are you going to do at home? Say Wan would want you to enjoy your life!” So for the next two to three years, Jeannie accepted every invitation coming from her friends. “I had many different groups of friends who loved to do different things. All the years that Jeannie had invested in her children, instilling the right values in her boys and making lifelong friends have paid off in her later years. “What’s your one piece of advice you would give to other men and women who have lost their spouses a lot earlier than they wished?” I asked. “My advice is to give yourself time to grieve and then move on. Malaysia’s Landmark Chinese Dragon BRILLIANT NEW ADDITION TO JOHORE’S LANDSCAPE Dragons have always been the symbol of prosperity and power in Chinese culture. To the Chinese, seeing a Dragon or being in the presence of one always suggests that good luck and prosperity are soon coming. In the old days, this celestial creature brought auspicious rains to water the crops that lead to a bountiful harvest; many believe it also subdues all obstacles and transforms bad energy into good luck chi, hence transforming one’s luck for the better. LIM HAN JIN pays a visit to Malaysia’s latest “Dragon”.
K
een to bring the Dragon luck that is so powerful in the coming year of the Rooster, the Che Ann Khor Moral Uplifting Society located in Yong Peng in the State of Johor has built a beautiful 107 meter long Dragon at their temple to bring good fortune luck to all who pay them a visit. The Taoists believe that if you walk into a Dragon mouth and exit through its tail, this transforms all bad luck in one’s life into good luck; and if your luck is already good, it will improve it further. 'PSUIJTSFBTPO UIFTPDJFUZEFDJEFEUP build the Dragon tunnel large enough to accommodate 500 people. This
enables a great many people to perform this ritual when they visit. The Dragon Tunnel was built at the cost of RM8 million, with donations from members of the Society as well as from the public who visit the temple. The Dragon was officially launched by the Sultan of Johor in November this year, and opens to the public on 29th Nov 2016, a date carefully chosen to bring good fortune to those who visit. In addition to the Dragon, the temple has also built a beautiful Garden of Deities, where statues of the
deities revered in the Taoist tradition have been placed. The principle deity worshiped here is Ji Gong, also known BTUIFiNBENPOLwJO$IJOFTFMFHFOE as he loves to eat meat and consumes alcohol in large amounts. Ji Gong was very good in the art of medicine and helped many people avoid death. He was also blessed with the skill of clairvoyance, and legend has it that one time, he felt a landslide was coming to a village while the villagers were having a wedding feast. He tried to warn the villagers, but was not taken seriously; so he kidnapped the bride so all the villagers had to follow him to reclaim the bride. As a result, the whole village was saved from the landslide. After this incident, many respected him and he continued to help people with his godgiven powers. When an image of the Dragon is built, there will always be an image of Ji Gong, as he subdues the Dragon. Ji Gong is one of the famed Arhats revered by Taoists and Buddhists.

LESSONS MY PARENTS TAUGHT ME
FRIENDSHIPS AND FRIENDS BY DATO HALIMAH MOHD SAID
The song captures so well the meaning of true friendship whose bonds will never be broken by the passage of time. When casual acquaintances desert you in times of need or trouble, your dear friends will remain to comfort you and lend a hand. Auld Lang Syne also brings back memories of old friends who have passed on like the passing of the year. I am always filled with a deep sadness when the song is sung. I say a little prayer when I see the faces of loved ones in my mind’s eye.
Characteristics of A Friend
A
s we bid farewell to 2016, it is befitting to remember Robert Burn’s poem Auld L a n g Sy n e w r i t t e n i n Gaelic. It was made famous when the English translation was rendered into a melodious song in remembrance of old, long-standing friendships. Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne? CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we’ll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne. … This song is sung throughout the world on New Year’s Eve as the old year comes to a close and we are filled with nostalgia at its passing. More than the passing of time, we raise our glass to old friends whom we have shared the year with its good times and bad, its joys and sorrows, its hopes and disappointments.
70
Auld Lang Syne however has a positive message in the kind gestures of friendship extended by old friends. Surely there will be more of such kindnesses as we enter the new year and a new beginning. And surely you’ll buy your pint cup! and surely I’ll buy mine! And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne. CHORUS We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine; But we’ve wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne. CHORUS We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine; But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne. CHORUS And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And give me a hand o’ thine! And we’ll take a right goodwill draught, for auld lang syne.

Forming relationships is a basic human instinct and is one of the main aspects of human social communication. We are meant to exist in a family, a group and a community, and form bonds and linkages which sustain us and add meaning to our lives. We lend one another support, sympathizing and empathizing, especially when others are less fortunate than we are. We depend on family and friends to help us as they hope we will assist them too. As the famous poem by John Donne says: No man is an island, Entire of itself, Every man is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thy friend’s Or of thine own were: Any man’s death diminishes me, Because I am involved in mankind, Therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee. Of c o u r s e , n o t e ve r yo n e i s blessed with the same capacity for forming friendships, as we are all made differently and grow up in diverse environments, some more friendly than others. We cannot and do not expect to have the same type of friendships or the same number of friends as the people in our family or community.
In essence, types of relationships vary, and so do friendships. We all have casual friends, good friends, reliable and trustworthy friends, favourite friends and the BFF Best Friends Forever type of friends whom we stick to unconditionally, through thick and thin. Their characteristics are as diverse as their backgrounds, but it would be true to say that there are certain basic characteristics which contribute to a solid, lasting friendship. First is the love or great liking that friends have for you, which give them a special place in your heart. Some refer to it as unconditional love when regardless of what you do, what happens, or where life takes you, a true friend will remain your friend for life and love you at all times. Even during your worst times when you display bad behaviour, a good friend will stick by you. Second is their unwavering support. True friends are there for the long haul and are prepared to give you their time and attention should you need them. There is mutual trust between you built over the interests that you share. You may not meet often or regularly, but the bond of friendship is such that you can immediately pick up where you left off. True friendships are consistent and enduring. Third is their honesty in the friendship. This means they are prepared to tell you exactly what they think, even when they know it might hurt you. This involves the willingness to challenge you and intervene in order to make sure you are charting the right path. True friends will not stand by and remain silent if they know you will suffer unnecessary hurt if they do not act. In other words, they will stick their neck out for you if they sense danger is lurking round the corner. Fo u r t h i s t h e i r g r a c e a n d compassion in understanding you, your trials and tribulations. They are prepared to forgive and forget should you err in your judgement, especially when they know it was not intentional. They will show great generosity of spirit and will not bear

a grudge for long. If you have friends who have these attributes, you are indeed blessed, as your journey in life will be all the more fulfilling.
Women’s And Men’s Friendships At a glance, we can see that girls and women easily form friendships over common interests and activities, many of which revolve around the home and

family. It seems that female-female bonding is more easily created over domestic activities like cooking and childcare. At another level, interest in matters involving women’s health and well-being, beauty and fashion provide an ever-growing platform to bring women together, especially for those with time on their hands. The basis of these friendships is usually emotional, as women get together to share their feelings and emotions. Women tend to invest more in maintaining their friendships, calling friends regularly and meeting more frequently. From my personal experience, nothing beats the bond that sisters share out of the continuous emotional involvement with family and kin. My five sisters and I have gone through thick and thin, laughter and tears, births and deaths, the greatest joy and the deepest sorrow. We have sympathized and empathized with one another over problems and challenges in our individual as well as extended family lives. We are sisterfriends literally for life. Our bond is deeply spiritual. Men’s friendships, on the other hand, tend to be less emotional but
are also based on shared activities, especially sports and games such as football, golf or poker. Men often use their relationships to get reciprocal favours and to work together on projects. The notion of the “old boys club” of networking is important to men’s friendships as they go about their work and develop their careers. Men are also more likely to share leisure activities, such as travel or attending sporting events, with the wife and children thrown in for good measure. However, men don’t feel as much need to stay in touch with friends that tend to be less intimate.
Parent-child Friendships To m e , t h e m o s t p re c i o u s o f friendships is that between a parent and child where there is mutual respect and understanding. This can only happen in a democratic family set-up, where children are given the space to grow physically, emotionally, m e n t a l l y a n d p s yc h o l o g i c a l l y
under the tutelage of caring and compassionate parents. From young, children learn that their parents not only love them but care for their feelings. They are nurtured in a healthy home environment where parents are always there to guide and protect them. When children know they can turn to their parents at all times, they will develop a quiet confidence as they go through life. In the same way, they will be there for their parents without any requests or demands being made. The bond will be one akin to the deep love and respect that the best of friends have for one another. The greatest pleasure for aged parents is to have this rapport with their children, and to know that they have raised kind, caring and compassionate adults who will, in turn, pass on the same values to their children. Auld Lang Syne will continue to resonate and perpetuate the values of true friendship.

Dear People at FENG SHUI WORLD,
LETTER
I want to thank you for the article in the March Feng Shui World issue about the strong indications that Donald Trump could be the next President of the US. At the time it seemed quite unlikely here. I was not as surprised about the election results as some people. I guess it goes together that he will be inaugurated right before the year of the Rooster begins from what has been mentioned in the magazine about the upcoming Year of the Rooster. What is really prompting me to email, however, is that I saw Igudesman & Joo in Worcester, MA, on November 13. I had not known about them before I read the article in Feng Shui World magazine. When I checked their schedule I was pleasantly surprised to see an upcoming performance in a city about an hour’s drive away. They were amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Thank you for including the article about them. I really appreciate and enjoy your magazine and look forward to reading it every month. I love learning about different cultures, what people believe and the non-USA-centered perspective. I really liked the puzzles at the end of the magazine that were discontinued. (I had taken a flying star class from Jampa Ludrup several years ago in the Boston area. At the time it made perfect sense but I did not continue studying it.) Best regards,

RETREATING STAR
W
hen you do personalized Paht Chee readings and Feng Shui analysis of homes and offices on a daily basis, there comes a time when you realize that nothing in life ever happens by coincidence. Through experience, I have managed to refine our analytical methods where events in people’s lives can be directly linked to their Phat Chee readings as well as the Feng Shui of their homes. Of course, the third portion of their luck, the human aspect, also plays a role in shaping how their life works out. But there is also a portion of the Paht Chee reading that allows us some insight into the character and personality of the person that we are reading. For example, someone who has too much Metal in their chart can be read as someone with a strong character, perhaps someone who can be very stubborn and rigid in their outlook of life. Yet someone who has excessive Earth can be said to have excessive patience and acceptance of what life throws at them. Indeed, the proportion of the 5 elements in the chart provides us a strong foundation in order to make an educated guess of the kind of person they are, as well as what kinds of decisions they would make in life. And so, reading their Paht Chee chart when I perform a Feng Shui analysis of their home allows me to optimize results, and be able to change my client’s life around quite quickly and effectively. This issue I am going to introduce you to the Retreating Star. According to the ancient texts, this star indicates a person who is easily defeated or victimized. Such a person would easily be persuaded to accept a pay cut or accept voluntary redundancy. They would find their climb up the career ladder difficult, and they will

also face many challenges creating success in their lives. They tend to be quite laid-back and conservative by nature. They are usually not up to date with the latest trends, technology and methodology. Such a person coupled with excessive Metal in their chart, or possessing also the Squandering Star would find success even more elusive, as they need plenty of help from mentors and allies in order to fulfill their ambitions. If you were born in the year of the Fire Ox, Fire Sheep, Water Dragon or Water Dog, then you have this star in your chart. Thus Fire is her most favourable element followed by Earth. Metal is not lucky for her as it further weakens her. When we look at her chart, we see a very big clash between the Monkey in her hour, and the Tiger in her day and month pillars. These two drastic clashes can easily explain why she has never been married. They also indicate

a life filled with tragedy and obstacles. Looking at her hidden stars, we find she has 2 units of the Power Mentor star, The Squandering Star as well as the Star of the Celestial Nobleman. Indeed, she is most fortunate, as her basket of elements is quite wellbalanced except of the lack of Fire – which appears in her luck pillars. This also explains her political career taking off at her age of 49 when she has the Rooster bringing her allies. This spate of good luck continues until her age of 63. The moment she turned 64, she finds the effects of the Yang Metal Monkey rearing its ugly head, bringing her trouble. Furthermore, 2016 is the Year of the Fire Monkey, and what more, Choi Soon Sil, her childhood friend that is at the root of the current scandal, was born on 23rd June 1956, which makes her a Fire Monkey. Investigations into the scandal began in October 2016 – the month of the Dog, which of course, is the direct clash animal of her Dragon. We know that November is not going to be helpful for her, as it is the month of the Boar, but if she can hold on till December – month of the Rat, there is a possibility she may be able to overcome the problems she faces, as the Dragon, Rat and Monkey forms the competitor triangle, giving her the strength to overcome her enemies and thus maintain her position.

ARCHITECTURALLY SPEAKING by Chris Yeo
THE DESIGN PROCESS Making decisions is probably one of the hardest hurdles to overcome when it comes to designing your home. Throw into the mix the opinion of your partner and we will end up with doubts, and clash of preferences and styles. The reason being that design is such a subjective topic, that no two people see and appreciate the same thing. So how do we go about the design process to find a middle ground that everyone can appreciate?
THE DESIGN PROCESS First, we need to bring all parties into the design process right from the beginning. There are many instances where one partner would indicate that this was not their project and therefore do not want to be involved in any shape and form. But what we need to acknowledge is that in every design project, the final product will be lived in by both parties, so it is best to put your input in right from the beginning, else there could be resentment and arguments once the final product arrives. I refer to the feeling one feels having a living part of their lives built without their input, which may result in family

disharmony when it starts to segregate the house into “yours” and “mine”. Thus, to begin, it is a good idea to lay down the guidelines of what everyone wants and sift out the pros and cons with the budget, and learn to design as a team. For example, the kitchen is a classic battleground for ideas to clash and egos to resolve. Everyone loves their kitchen and thinks they are the main chef of the home. But the problem lies in what you do when you get conflicting concepts. Generally, based on practical space planning, we can get everyone to agree to how things are placed within the kitchen. Such as the arrangement of

the stove, sink and fridge, but the practicality of selecting accessories needs to be reviewed. We need to understand as a family what kind of accessories and equipment you will use on a regular basis, and what you would need for special events. Based on this selection, you can then design the kitchen to suit your daily lifestyle and achieve an efficient space arrangement that minimizes clutter. The next items to think about are the materials you choose. You may get one party that adores stainless steel, while the other has always dreamed of a Georgian kitchen. But while styles may differ, there can be a middle ground by incorporating the
Trinity of Horses Placed anywhere in the living room to bring big wealth, stunning victory and long lasting success.
“The Victory Horse” bringing winning energies “The Windhorse” bringing success at work and in business.
“The Tribute Horse” bringing prosperity
(]HPSHISLH[HSS>VYSK6M-LUN:O\P)V\[PX\LZ^VYSK^PKLVY]PZP[www.fsmegamall.com/dec2016 (\Z[YHSPH(Y\IH*LU[YHS(TLYPJH*HUHKH1HWHU4H\YP[P\Z4HSH`ZPH5L[OLYSHUKZ5L^*HSLKVUPH :PUNHWVYL;HOP[P;OHPSHUK
essence of one design and merging it with the other to create a hybrid design. By doing so, both parties get a little bit of what they want to fulfill that satisfaction emotion and thereby preserving family harmony through design.
White Paint Finish
VISUALS The next thing to consider is to make sure everyone selects what they are thinking in their minds. There are plenty of people who tend to think of something, but are not able to express what they want and feel. As a result, they may become dismayed when the actual product is built. Take for example the selection of materials and design arrangement for this Dressing Room. The first thing we need to convey to the user is the thought process and there is no better way than through visuals. By visually describing the concept of the space, the user will be able to understand what to expect and make decisions early on; this will help to minimize changes when we go into construction. So in this scenario, the design is focused on the key decision of either having a closed door dressing area, or an open concept. The next component is the selection of materials, which in this case ranges from a white paint finish to a light maple-coloured timber texture to a dark mahogany finish. The reason for showing these 3 contrasting concepts is to show how different materials look within the space, but also how different colours would affect the overall feel of the space. With a lighter colour, we can increase the ambience levels of the room, while a dark mahogany finish would create a more subdued ambient theme. As everyone has a different appreciation for different finishes, this modelling tool adds as a great means of understanding what everyone is looking at, showing them the rendered feel so they know what they are getting into before we even start construction.
COMPROMISE And finally, the secret to a successful partnership in designing your own
82
Light Maple-Coloured Timber Texture
Dark Mahogany Finish
home is to compromise with each other. Try to understand what everyone is looking for, but rather than downplaying their ideas, look for what is positive and build from there. This applies to all designers as I have seen in many occasions where a designer tries to force a concept onto their clients, while they themselves have never lived in such environments before. So, while everyone has ideas, look at what makes the most sense, and always listen to the ideas of those who would be using the space. As while we may design the most gorgeous space in our minds, it may not be something
F E N G SHUIWORLD | DECEMBER 2016 | www.fswmag.com
the user wants. Therefore, when you start to design a space that requires decisions, always take note that design is a subjective topic. Make sure everyone is involved in the process, and identify what the positives are. A good designer would be able to then combine all these key ideas and mold them into a concept that is appreciated by all.

STORE ROOM DOOR BEHIND MY SEAT AT WORK
Q
At my office, I am seated facing East. Directly behind me is a store room and the door is always kept open. Does this affect me in a bad way? Yes this is not a good location for you. Any position where there is a door behind you is not advised. It weakens your position of power and causes others to back-stab you. But at least the door behind opens to a storeroom and not a toilet or long corridor. I suggest you try to move to another desk if you can (ask your boss). But if this is not possible then close the store room door at all times. You can also hang an amulet mirror behind your seat (facing the store room door) and see if that helps.

LIGHTBULBS AND APPLIANCES SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING
Q
We have been struggling financially for some time now. Recently electrical appliances started breaking down one after the other (most are under 5 years old). The light bulbs need replacing constantly. I am scared of losing the house and everything we have worked for. I suspect that the energy of your home is old. If you are living in a house that has not been refurbished since 2004 then you’re staying in a house that is pre-Period-8 based on flying star feng shui. Usually
A
92
people who live in such “old” houses struggle with finances and even the smallest things tend to go wrong. I suggest that you give your entire house a facelift with a fresh coat of paint to infuse new energy into the home. Check that your main doors do not have cracks, and dinner plates are not chipped. If there are cracks on your door, sand it and repair it. If you can afford it, get a new door installed. Throw out whatever clutter and junk if you’ve been hoarding it. Keeping junk, especially old electrical appliances that you will never use again (i.e. old computer monitors, keyboards, etc) is a sure way of harbouring stale energy. This is what can cause things to go really wrong.
BIRDS FLYING PAST MY WINDOW WHEN I CHANT MANTRA
Q
What does it mean to see birds flying past my window each time I am praying or saying the mantra to Goddess Tara? Is this good? They are either pigeons or swallows. Also, every evening, there are many swallows flying outside my living room window just before sunset (our home is a high rise apartment). Is this good? Of course these are all good signs! Birds are spirit messengers and many dakini angels ride on them. When you’re chanting mantras, especially Tara mantras, the spirit beings are so happy.. they fly
A
F E N G SHUIWORLD | DECEMBER 2016 | www.fswmag.com
past your window as a way of saying “well done, keep it up! We’re listening to your prayers and have faith we are working to help you” Pigeons and swallows are very much associated with spiritual growth and messages. Many believe that swallows are the animals ridden by the gandharva nature spirits and pigeons are ridden by fairies that bring abundance. And normally, according to lineage texts, they love to fly around during sunset! So yes my dear, these are all good signs.
FACING DOORS CAUSING A RIFT BETWEEN ME AND DAUGHTER
Q
My daughter’s bedroom door is directly facing our bedroom door. I believe this is what has caused a rift between us. Please advise how to cure this as I would like to once again enjoy a loving and close relationship w i t h h e r. I ’m a Rabbit (1951) and she is a Dog (1982). We are supposed to be astrological secret friends! If you can, I suggest renovating and moving the door on either of your rooms so that they are not directly facing each other. If you can’t do this, then hang door curtains over both your doors. This should help reduce the confrontational energy caused by both doors. Also do bear in mind that the Dog has had the #3 star throughout the year; this is a very Quarrelsome Star which makes her more touchy and prickly than other years. This coming year, you are afflicted with the Three Killings and Grand Duke Jupiter, and she is going to feel weaker than normal due to the #2 illness star. It is really important for the both of you to place all the necessary cures to suppress these afflictions. This will really help keep the peace and make everything harmonious again.
