Disappointment with God by Philip Yancey
Extremely Helpful
Is God listening? Can he be trusted? In thi s book, Yancey tackles the questions caused by a God who doesnt always do what we think hes supposed to do. Features: * Click here to view our Condition Guide and Shipping Prices After reading, DISAPPOINTMENT WITH GOD, by Philip Yancey, and thinking about my own journey with God, I wondered if what disappoints us is really a divine appointment. Yancey focuses on the conflict between good and evil, citing Job's experience. He sees Job's horrific trial as a necessary test of human freedom. Too often, we are disappointed to the point of frustration, because God seems to remain aloof, silent, or inactive. If He is God, why doesn't He do something, or as in Job's case at least say something! Job is a model for dealing with our fears and difficulties, he says. Jesus, Yancey says, assimilated, at the cross, "the destructive force and transformed it into love." The author reminds us that Job's agony over his lost sense of God's presence parallels Jesus' tortured cry, "My God, my God why have you forsaken me?" Both Job and Jesus chose to trust God in spite of their feelings of abandonment. Choices are what freedom is about! This book is a treasure trove for me along with the book of Job when I face the blank walls in my life. Yancey's style of writing flows uncluttered, getting me to really thinking more deeply about God and human suffering. I'm not given to marking a book and putting the references in the back, unless ideas are couched in succinct language. However, DISAPPOINTMENT WITH GOD is heavily marked. This book is a "keeper" to read and re-read! Betty L. Sheldon, author of OMNIPIECE
