Axes Axes are often produced with center holes on both ends. These are necessary for clamping the axes in the lathe or grinding machine. There are several standards that describe these dimensions center holes. DIN 332 are normalized center holes with and without screw-thread. Diameter osets in axes are often rounded to avoid notching (risk for fr acture). The standard DIN 509 oers Diameter di erent erent standardized possibilities for further application. Mounting a counter piece (for example a gear) on an axis is possible wit h a conical part of the shaft that ts precisely Mounting in the the hub of the counter piece. The conical shapes of the shaft and the hub are thus indicated by the cone slope, for example exa mple 1/10. In the table there are a few examples of long and short s haft ends combined with a screw-thread for the axial the axial positioning of the counter c ounter piece. 1 Standardized Standardized centre holes
