The valves on D16A and D16B can be adjusted either cylinder by cylinder or as per the two-position method. When the piston in the 1st cylinder is at TDC after compression, valves 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 are adjusted. When the piston in the 6th cylinder is at TDC after compression, valves 3, 6, 7, 10, 11,12 are adjusted. Each pair of valves is adjusted in two stages: First the valve caliper is adjusted, followed by the clearance between the rocker arm and the caliper.

Camshaft Checking camshaft setting, cold engine and valve clearance = 0. The inlet valve for cylinder 1 (D16A) at flywheel position 10 ATDC should be open 2.2±0.4 mm. The inlet valve for cylinder 1 (D16B) at flywheel position 10 ATDC should be open 2.45±0.4 mm. When checking, the timing gears must be rotated in the correct direction (clockwise seen from the front) in order to take up all backlash.
