Achernar features delicate, interlocking cables worked in a sport-weight yarn. This medium-sized scarf looks great with the Shedir hat in Knitty’s breast cancer awareness mini-issue.

materials finished size
Approx. 6in/15cm wide by 54in/135cm long without fringe
yarn
3 skeins Gedifra Cashmerino (58% merino wool, 30% acrylic, 12% superwash cashmere; 146yds/135m per 1.75oz/50g ball), shown in color #1446 Note: This pattern looks best if it is aggressively blocked open to highlight the cables and reduce the fabric's natural tendency to curl. When choosing a substitute yarn, make sure to choose one that can be blocked; yarns with a higher percent of acrylic may not work well for this pattern.
gauge
Approx. 24 sts/32 rows = 4in/10cm across both Pattern A and Pattern B Note: Exact gauge for this project is not important. However, be sure to wash and block your swatch before checking gauge.
needles
1 set US 4/3.5mm 16” needles, or size needed to obtain gauge Cable needle Note: This project will go a lot faster if you can cable without a cable needle.
