From the design project, we found out that steel design involves the use of various steel shapes as primary framing for building structures. Various steel shapes are selected from the AISC anual to conform to the provisions indicated in the ASC! anual or "ational Structural Code of the #hilippines. $esign criteria should be met to compute for the loads that should be distributed along the members. $esign of beams ta%e into consideration ade&uate strength for bending and ade&uate stiffness for serviceability. serviceability. 'hus it considers shear and deflection along line of action. $esign of columns on the other hand, ta%e into account, the effective length, whether it(s braced or unbraced and the combined loadings carried by the column. Column design process uses interaction formulas to be able to ta%e into account the said combined loadings.
