BULLET PROOF MATERIALS USING SPIDER’S WEB

ABSTRACT COMPOSITE MATERIALS In the basic form a composite material is composed of at least TWO (2) COMPONENTS present together to produce material properties that are different from that of the elements independently. A composite consists of, a bulk material (‘the matrix’) and a reinforcement material, that are mainly added to increase the strength and stiffness of the matrix. The reinforcements are mostly in fiber form.

OUR RESERCH and DEVELOPMENT

(Spider’s web in a composite material) A start into our idea…. Did you ever think that spider’s web would any day help build a composite material? Well today we have successfully brought out our idea to build a composite material using the SPIDER’S WEB as the reinforcement material in the composite material consisting spider’s web and POLY-PARA-PHENYLENE TEREPTHALAMIDE. We choose these materials because, 1) The materials must have the same temperature coefficient – Both spider’s web ( nephila clavipes ) and poly-para-phenylene terephthalamide have the same range of negative temperature coefficient. 2) The materials must have high tensile strength – Web of nephila clavipes is the highest. About 1.3 -.5gpa. 3) The polymer has 59-124gpa The materials must have elongation Both the materials have a elongation as high as 25-35%

The x-factor of spider’s web…. The spider’s web can act as a material with highly sticky properties during normal contact with another material and can act as a material with high elastic properties when they come into contact with highspeed materials.

Structure of the composite…. >The core will contain the polymer material. >The film layer will contain the spider’s web developed into any one of the complex structure. a) Octagonal b) Three dimensional ball structure. c) It will contain a film layer on the top to provide extra protection.

The need of the spider’s web in bullet- proof materials…. The tensile strength of spider silk is greater than the same weight of steel and has much greater elasticity. Its microstructure is under investigation for potential applications in industry, including bullet-proof vests and artificial tendons. In the case of our newly developed composite, the spider’s web will offer greater flexibility and higher strength because of the complex structure and the special x factor of the spider’s web.

Other applications…. This composite can forth-come a huge market in 1) The manufacturing of bullet proof vests 2) The car bumpers. 3) The aerospace and automotive engineering.
