Informative Speech: Avian Flu Did you know kno w that during the first six months of 2004, approximately 200 million birds died or were destroyed destroyed in attempt to stop the pandemic of avian influenza (5)? Did you hear that United Nations coordinator, coordinator, Dr David Nabarro, Nabarro, estimated the number of possible possible human casualties aass 5 150 million people? Are you aware that since since its discovery in the 1990 -ies the avian flu has been contracted contracted by more than 100 people, and one half h alf of them died (6)? Such figure may appear too abstract for us, as well as the avian flu itself raging somewhere on the other side of the world. In our corner of the world everything is fine, most of us love chicken meat, and are not going to deny ourselves a Mac Mac Chicken on week -ends. But the eye-opener for us all is the fact that the avian flu epidemic is much closer to America than it seems. If it strikes, no one listening to this speech will be immune, and "there won't be Tamiflu or hospital beds for everybody", everybod y", the officials say (6). So my thesis is that the only way of prevention preventi on of an avian flu epidemic in the USA is inoculation. The vaccine was synthesized by the National Institutes of Health, and it creates a protective immunity in the human organism in two rounds of inoculation (6). The trut trut h is that it won't cure an infected individual, but it will prevent a disease. At the moment there is no treatment for the human modification of the avian flu. The medication called "Tamilflu", elaborated by Roche Pharmaceutical Pharmaceutical in Switzerland, Switzerland, can only "slow "s low the ability of the virus to overwhelm your bod y and make lots of copies of itself and that buys you time to develop appropriate immunity and kill it off", if taken in the first 36 hours (6). All in all, isn't it more appropriate to inoculate yourself against a lethal disease and minimize the chance of its contraction than resorting to Tamilflu to slow down the infection? The US government has already purchased some six million doses of vaccination, so if you apply for vaccination at his very moment, you are most likely to to be inoculated. I highly advise that you take care of yourself right now. The global matters are actually in the hands of every individual. If everyone will be immune to the diseas d isease, e, the pandemic won't break b reak in. You just need to be ino culated in order to prevent prevent an infection that can kill 150 million people. Your future and the future of the United States depend on your choice. Choose life before it is too late. Choose vaccination. Thank you.

Inspirational Speech: New project kick-off Hello. For those of you who don't know me yet my name is Andrew Dickinson. I am the head of the artificial intellect department and one of the founders of our company. To let you in a secret, it was my idea to name it "Mnemosoft". The whole thing started started in 2001, when I was 23 and was about to graduate from IT Department of the University of Toronto. My friend, a young manager and me, an enthusiastic programmer, programmer, decided decided to start a software software company. We had our bu siness plan composed, I was sure of my development skills and my companion defined a new market niche where our products would be much in demand. I came up to my father for advice and told him about our plans. I still recall recall his countenance, when he replie d: "Drew, it is impossible". impossible". I remembered those words for the rest of my life. They drove me to a corner, and for the first time I thought that our radiant hopes can fail. I had no right to a defeat, for my starting capital was too little to have a second try. I thought it over and over again till late into night. In the morning I decided to make an attempt. The name of the company came by itself - "Mnemosoft", from the Greek word "mnemo" meaning memory. I remembered father's words very well, yet I also believed in the impossible. I gambled on the incredible incredible - and today I am here with you, giving an inspirational speech speech to our new team before commencement of a new project. We are to develop a new search engine, and and I know that at first glance this idea see see ms impossible, for no other searcher can stand competition with Google and other whales of the Internet information information management. But But let us believe in the impossible - that a team of young energetic professional professionalss can create another whale by hard work, coope ration and confidence in success. Most of you are IT-people: IT -people: programmers, programmers, developers, testers, testers, web -designers, -designers, network administrators or maintenance engineers. However, you will also work side by side with linguists, journalists journalists and database specialists. specialists. Your team is quite diverse, but it should and will function as one single body, where every organ fulfills its vital function. Your ultimate goal lies within our reach. All you have to do is to believe that you can do it. Remember that that nothing is impossible - and everything will work out. Believe in the impossible, as I risked too four years ago, for it is the only way to achieve anything. I will finish my small speech by one of my favorite quotations. It is taken from the book written by a brilliant mathematician who dared to believe b elieve in the incredible. You must have read it in your childhood, but I want you to recall, recall, re -evaluate and remember it. "There "There is no use trying, said Alice; one can't can't believe impossible things. things. I dare say you haven't had much prac tice, said said the Queen. When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast" (Lewis Carroll) (3). The future of this project depends on each of you, and on your belief. Thank you.

Speech is the vocalized form of human communication. It is based upon the syntactic combination of lexicals and names that are drawn from very large (usually >10,000 different words) vocabularies. vocabularies. ach spoken spoken word is created created out of the phonetic combination combination of a limited limited set of vowel and consonant speech sound units. These vocabularies, the syntax which structures them, and their set of speech sound units, differ creating creating the existence of many thousands of different types of mutually unintelligible human languages. Human speakers (polyglots) are often able to communicate in two or more of them. The vocal abilities that enable humans to produce speech speech also provide humans with the ability t o sing.
A gestural form of human communication communicati on exists for the deaf in the form of sign language. Speech in some cultures has become the basis of a written language, language, often o ften one that differs in its vocabulary, syntax and phonetics from its associated spoken one, a situation called diglossia. Speech in addition to its use in communication, it is suggested by some psychologists such as Vygotsky is internally used by mental processes processes to enhance and organize organize cognition in the form of an interior monologue. Speech is researched in terms of the speech production and speech perception of the sounds used in spoken language. Other research topics concern speech repetition, the ability to map heard spoken words into the vocalizations needed to recreated that plays a key role in the vocabulary expansion in children and speech errors. Several academic disciplines study these including acoustics, psychology, speech pathology, linguistics, cognitive science, communication studies, otolaryngology and computer science. Another area of research is how the human brain in its different areas such as the Broca's area and Wernicke's area underlies speech. It is controversial how far human speech is unique in that other animals also communicate with vocalizations. While none in the wild have compatibly large vocabularies, research upon the nonverbal abilities of language trained apes such as Washoe and Kanzi raises the possibility that they might have these capabilities. The origins of speech speech are unknown and subject to much debate and speculation.

Narr ative ative Speech - Death in the Mountains Notes:
1. I have carefully selected the story: I hear this story from one of the mountaineers. It attracted me because of its possible connection with Unknown Flying Objects. 2. The material gathered: personal talk to the persons who collect stories about people found dead in a strange way in the mountains. 3. The point I want to make: mountains are haunted by spirits whose solitude must be respected by any intruders. 4. My most wanted response: People never sei ze an opportunity to conquer the mountains. I want my audience to remember that any exploration of our planet earth is dangerous because many secrets are still unknown. I would like to concentrate on the hypothesis: the disaster may be assigned to supernatural sources but in fact it could have been explained in a simple way. However, witnesses tend to disappear; secret files may be destroyed, as well. 5. Purpose: to narrate a story that may find responses in the audience. Goal: people become victims of their own disbelief in supernatural forces. Lesson: the world is full of dangers but we are eager to explore and conquer it. Plot: a story of a group of mountaineers found dead on the slope of the mountain fifty years ago, no explanation is available. 6. Developing the action and drama to visualize the plot: it was an open secret that the mountain spirits would kill any group that contains nine mountaineers. 7. A story sequence: Introduction: who? Nine mountaineers in their early twenties; where? In the Altai Mountains; when? In February 1959; Conflict: between mountaineers and nature; Unfolding of the plot: at first they were on the safe side because they were ten; then one of them ell ill, nine people went to the mountains; Climax: the movement of the frightened mountaineers to the tent; Denouement: the cause of deaths is still unknown. I will pay attention to the eye contact with my listeners when delivering the narrative speech.

Student Council Speech: Student Council Candidate's Candidate's Speech Hello. My name is George Robins, and I am the candidate for the Student Council Representative. Representative. Last year members of the Student Council did a great job b y adjusting the academic schedule to our needs, organizing the clubs of national minority students and improving the living conditions in the hostel. However, However, I think that the Council needs some refreshment - new representatives are to come in and reinforce the experience of the old ones by their enthusiasm. enthusiasm. In my opinion, this new approach can be demonstr ated by first-year students. students. I was authorized by the freshmen of our university to run for the student council representative. I guess they chose me because I was previously involved in high school council and afterwards spent one year participating in the t he Freedom Support Act project for future leaders. leaders. One of my achievements was the ban of the compensation system on PT lessons, so that our students didn't have to make up for the lessons when they were ill or absent. To tell the truth, this "political" and leadership experience experience only stirred up my thirst for making the world a better place by showing the ways to do it. For example, our university university is a wonderful place to study at, but still it needs some some improvement: those who ride to the university university by bic ycle or on roller-skate would benefit, if the car movement were restricted on the campus territory. Those who live in the hostel would find their life easier, had there been a special bus connecting the hostel and the campus, so that they won't won't have to tra vel by two means of transport transport twice a day. The senior students would have h ave more time for finding a proper job, had their academic periods been scheduled for two days instead of five. To put it in a nutshell, there is a thousand other trifles that that would make our university a sophisticated sophisticated and comfortable place to study in. The slo The sloga gan n for for my elec electi tion on cam campa paig ign n is is "FR "FR SHMA SHMAN N FOR FOR R FR SHM SHM NT", NT", and and as as a representative representative of first-year first- year students I come out for bringing new energy and new enthusiasm to the student council. I am not going to convince you that I am the very best candidate for this position. I am only 18; I have quite a modest track record in the school s chool council and participating in the cultural exchange programme for future leaders. I lack experience, but it is compensated by zeal, an unprejudiced new approach to old things. Furthermore, I am ready to work with gusto for your benefit. But I am not ambitious, and do not strive for authority authority for the sake of authority. If you elect another candidate, I will si ncerely wish him all of successes in improvement of our students' life life for the better - and continue my own struggle. But if you empower me with your confidence, I will do everything but the impossible to represent represent your interests and achieve our common goals and ideals. I am sure that our aims coincide - we are all here to obtain education that will teach us how to make the world a slightly better place. If you empower me with your trust, we will start start from solving local local problems and making our university a little better place. place. Thank you very much for your attention.

But then you would come or call and I would remember why I am so in love with this wonderful life - because of you. You are my world, and I am sincerely grateful to God for giving me such loving family and caring friends. Your support support was crucial for me this year, when I achieved much due to your help: I graduated my true passion Nursing school. I can't wait when I can apply my m y skills and knowledge into practice. Love and gratitude gratitud e - this is what I feel standing standin g now in front of you. Love and gratitude - these are the best emotions one can can imagine. I am happy to love you and to be grateful to you. I know that you love me too, but it is by mistake. As far as this goal attainment requires requires much effo rt, skills and time, I hope that you'll help me in it, as always. I deeply appreciate appreciate your y our support. Thank you for being with me and Tom. In the end, I want to cite you a poem (not mine, by Richard McWilliam): McWilliam): What is a dream? What is a dream? A dream is a goal, An inspiration, A dream is where Hope lives, A dream is something to chase when when life drags us down, A dream is a song in the wilderness, Good flowering from the mud of evil. That is a dream. Get yourself a dream, Touch God and pray And never, ever let your dream get away. With you, my dearest, my dream dream is always near. Thank you ver y much.

conf ess, ess, thr oughout oughout the day I have been looking at my daughter in the wedding gown, so beautif ul, ul, solemn and br imming imming with happiness - like a tender white lilac on a sp r ing ing mor ning ning and I still couldn't believe my eyes. It seems to me that just an instant ago my f utu utur e wif e and I wer e standing at this alta r and sealing our marr iage iage with a kiss and now the f inest inest outcome of our marr iage, iage, our daughter , that cute blue -eyed tot, has gr own own up and said two simple wor ds ds "I do" to cr eate eate her own f amily. amily. Dur ing ing today's wedding cer emony emony I r ecalled ecalled a thousand little details about he r . Some of you know Donna as a talented web -designer ; f or other s she is a devoted tennis player ; many of us know her as a f aith aith f ul ul fr iend. iend. For me, ladies and gentlemen, she was and is and will be a little gir l with f unny unny plaits and sur pr ised ised blue eyes, as big as a plate. I r emembe emember the day when she was bor n: n: a br ight ight Apr il il mor ning ning with r ed ed tulips blossoming at the f lowe lower - beds by the mater nity nity hospital; it was one o f the happiest days of my newly - baked baked f athe ather 's 's lif e. e. I r emembe emember her f st r f ir st school days, when she f illed illed her exer cise cise - books books with f ancy ancy hier oglyphs oglyphs instead of letter s. s. Well, when her plaits and su r pr ised ised glance ar e gon e, at least one thing hasn't hasn't changed: her handwr iting, iting, which I still can't decode. ecall her dr owsing owsing on my lap, while I r ead ead her the f ai air y -tales about char med med pr incesses. incesses. Mik e and and So Sof ia, ia, I appr eciate eciate that you have entr usted usted your daughter to me and I will do my best to take car e of her . We have been together eady, and she has invar iably iably been f or me a sour ce ce of comf or t, t, inner power and f or some year s alr eady, inspir ation. ation. I r emembe emember that af te ter our f st date which occurr ed ed in high school) I f elt elt that I could r f ir st move mountains - or f ly to the moon and back. It was a stupendous f eeling, eeling, and as time passed I r f ly gr ew ew to appr eciate eciate mer e Julia's pr esence esence by my side, not to mention her const constant ant su su ppor t, t, love and car e. e. By the way, ladies and gentlemen, I can't but mention that Juliana looks gor geous geous today! A f ew ew weeks ago I asked Gabr iela, iela, the curr ent ent maid of honour , about how Julia looks in the wedding gown, and she r eplied eplied that she looked ver y elegant. However , these wor ds ds didn't pr epa epar e me suff iciently. iciently. When I saw her walking to me down the aisle, I f elt elt br eathless eathless to say the least by Julia's beauty! My wif e is beautif ul, ul, kind, car ing, ing, har d -wor king« king« the list of her advantages is quite lengthy« unf or tunately, tunately, I can't make out Julia's handwr iting iting - as a web -designer , she must have become mor e used to a keyboar d than to a pen : ) Now, when the wedding cer emony emony is over , I can honestly admit how diff icult icult it was f or me to pr opose opose to Juliana. Believe me, I had to pluck up all my cour age age to ask a beautif ul ul young woman to marr y me. As Ar thu thur Rubinstein, at that instant I thought that it was much "easier to play the whole Petr ushka ushka on the the piano" piano" 1) - although I don't play any musical instr ument ument at all. It was was almost as diff icult icult as dar ing ing to kiss her f st time. It was, as most o f you alr eady eady know, r f or the f ir st when we at high school and I took Julia f or a walk to the r ive iver and then saw her home. It was getting dar k, k, and she was standing on the door step step saying good- bye. bye. And then I f elt elt that I had to do something extr ao aor dina dinar y. y. So I took a f ull ull br eath eath and planted a kiss somewher e in the dusk - as it appear ed, ed, I almost spotted Julia's lef t ear . Of cour se, se, the pr ecision ecision of the kiss lef t much to be desir ed, ed, but anyway I was not going to be a sniper , but only wanted to kiss the gir l I f ound ound to be ver y special f or me. Fr om om the next day we star ted ted to come back fr om om school together , and since then and till the f ollowing ollowing year my special status was mar ked ked by the honour able able mission mission to carr y Julia's schoolbag. It took me only seven year s since then to under stand stand that I can't live without her , which is not long at all, isn't it? To
be ser ious, ious, I want ever ybody, ybody, especially you, Julia, to know how extr emely emely lucky I am be her e r ight ight now. I am so lucky to have f ound ound Her , the woman who made me dr eam eam of waking up together , eating br eak eak f ying home in the evening to see her f ace and chat with fast ast together , hurr ying r f ace her until it was time to f all all asleep. Wedding Speech: Best Man Speech Good evening ever ybody. ybody. For those who don't know me yet I am the gr oom's oom's best man, and I am her e to pay tr ibute ibute to the best woman Roder ick ick managed to f ind, ind, to beautif ul ul Donna. When Rick off er ed ed me to be his h is best man, I was f ir st st star tled, tled, because I thought of those ancient times when best man had to help the gr oom oom in kidnapping the br ide, ide, and f ight ight off the angr y elatives, while the g r oom oom galloped away with his lady -love. Well, I thought immediately of r elatives, ights and pur suits suits in Hollywood blockbuster s, s, and my "C" f or PT in the univer sity. sity. You can f ights imagine how r elieved elieved I was to f ind ind Donna's r elatives elatives to be fr iendly iendly -looking and pleasant people, and the only per il il I detected at this wedding par ty, ty, the gr avest avest danger to all men p r esent esent her e bewar e! e!)« is the beauty of the br ide, ide, wonderf ully ully complimented by the char m of the br ide ide maids. By the bye, thanks to all the br ide ide -maids who managed to convince the br ide ide to keep to her irr ational ational decision and marr y Rick.) Well, when things clear ed ed up f or me as the best man, my mission appear ed ed to be quite peacef ul... ul... just to ensu r e that the gr oom oom doesn't r un un away till the end o f the par ty ty and to deliver a speech to and f or the newly -weds. And, of c our se, se, TO UNCOVER THE MOST PIQUANT EPISODES OF THE GROOM'S DISSOLUTE LIFE BEFORE HIS MARR IAGE! Ladies
and gentlemen, I have known this r ogue ogue f or some 20 year s of his 25 -year-old lif e. e. Yeah, we went to the kinder ga gar ten ten together , and in secr et et) he was was a p oor tr ee ee -climber , and always seemed mor e inter ested ested in tugging at gir ls' ls' plaits than in noble male activities. With the advantage of the hindsight, I can guess that even at this young age he star ted ted to be looking f or his will- be be perf ect ect match, which at this time was r unning unning about in the same neighbor hood hood wear ing ing plaits and enchanting eve r ybody ybody with big blue eyes. My per sonal sonal guess -wor k is that they got acquainted at that time, when Rick was once r etu etur ning ning home fr om om the kinder ga gar ten, ten, and saw an attr active active plait near by, and couldn't help r unning unning and tugging at it. Well, anyway, it took them some ten mor e year s to str ike ike up an acquaintance, and th r ee ee mor e year s to let it gr ow ow fr om om a school r omance omance to a univer sity sity r omance, omance, and one mor e year to get it into a ma rr iage and at the beginning of it all ther e wer e plaits of a neighbor hood hood gir l. l. Af te ter our kinder ga gar ten ten acquaintance I happened to study f or the same deg r ee ee as Rick and as f ar as I r emembe emember he never limited his love inte r ests ests to Donna only. Being a per sonal sonal ity open open f or love, he also took a f ancy ancy in a cute blondie called Stella, but a f te ter a while his taste changed and he switched to Sherr y; y; af te ter wa war ds ds he plunged into shor t -lived love-aff ai air with Jack Daniels, until he f inally inally made his ultimate choice choice in Heine ken, and has been dr inking inking it ever af te ter . But however engaged he was in his Stella -Sherr y-Jack -Heineken aff ai air s, s, I r emembe emember that Rick never missed a date with Donna. It was then, at the fr eshman's eshman's cour se se that I star ted ted to suspect that something is gr avely avely wr ong ong with him. As his old fr iend, iend, I was so worr ied ied that I r ummaged ummaged thr ough ough volumes of specialized specialized books until I identif ied ied Rick's diagnosis. It was "a wildly misunder stood stood although highly desir able able malf unction unction of the hear t which weakens the br ain, ain, causes eyes to spar kle, kle, cheeks to glow, blood pr essu essur e to r ise ise and the lips to pucke r " 2). I r ealized ealized that my old chap was head over heels in LOVE with Donna. To

It is a gr eat tunity to congr atulate atulate us on launching this outstanding f und undr aising aising I would like to seize the oppor tunity campaign in which many ur ban or ganizations ganizations ar e involved. Our donations in this month have amounted to 50, 000 dollar s - the sum that will be t r ans ansf err ed ed to a mater nity nity house in the south of Somalia. On the boar ds ds you can see the f aces aces of young mother s in Somalia who need our help. The money will be donated f or moder n medical equipment. Our goal is to decr ease ease the number of inf ant ant deaths in the Somalia town under our sponsor ship. ship. To achieve this noble goal, we have or ganized ganized a char ity ity ball and a cha r ity ity f ai air . I am honor ed ed to thank all sponsor s, s, or ganizations ganizations and pr ivate ivate per sons, sons, who car e f or people in need in the hear t of the Afr ican ican continent. We all know that tha t Somalia is in a despe r ate ate economic condition, many of its natur al al r esou esour ces ces exhausted and diff er ent ent political gr oups oups still tear ing ing the countr y into separ ate ate par ts ts due to their endless conf licts. licts. But common people, victimized by the r egime, egime, have a r ight ight t o live, live, to give give bir th th to babies, and to enjoy f amilies amilies with many kids. The women of Somalia, who suff er fr om r fr om malnutr ition ition and har d conditions of lif e, e, ar e br ave ave to have kids. We ar e pr oud oud of their br ave aver y and their will to exper ience ience all pleasu r es es of mothe r hood. hood. However , the conditions ar e gr ave. ave. Poor medical car e, e, if any, a high r ate ate of inf ant ant deaths - one can har dly dly imagine that all this may be possible in the f ir st st decade of the 21st centur y. y. We ar e living in the wor ld ld that needs gr eat eat changes. But, as Pr esident esident Obama said, we ar e r esponsible esponsible utur e of the wor ld ld as well. Ou r char ity ity or ganization ganization has been constantly wor king king on f or the f utu undr aising, aising, much of which is tr ans ansf err ed ed as humanitar ian ian aid. Today,
we ar e of ten ten constr ained ained to our own domestic aff ai air s. s. We think of our own f utu utur e, e, with hopes at the time o f r ecession. In that hot climate it is ver y impor tant tant to f ight ight against inf ectious ectious diseases. Wate r supplies ar e limit limited, ed, and dr inking inking water is of notor ious ious low quality. We have developed a pr og ogr am am "Mom and kid" that will gr adually adually change the situation at least one mater nity nity house f or the better . Speech: Tying a Tie
Hello. My name i s Br endon endon Johnson, and I will show you how to tie a tie. At f irst sight it may seem mor e complicated and time -consuming than nuclea r physics, but as soon as you understand the basics it becomes mer ely ely a matte r of pr actice. actice. Believe me, it i s much easier than lear ning ning to r ide ide a bike o r tying a shoelace.
I will demonstr ate ate how to tie a Wind sor knot. It is "a thick, wide and t r iangula iangula r tie knot that pr oject ojects conf idence idence ", "your knot of choice f or pr esentation s, job inter view views, cour tr oom oom r s pr ead r shir ts" ( ). In f act, appea r ance ances", " best suited f or s ead colla r s act, making it i s not tr icky icky at all. Ever ybody ybody can make a Wind sor knot on hi s tie; however , it is highly r ecommended ecommended f or men with a long neck, f or the wide knot will vi sually diminish the height o f the neck neck and thus balance the appea r ance. ance. What do we need f or tying a Windsor knot? Let u s star t fr om om the essential s. To succeed in ou r goal you need th r ee ee thing s: a tie, a mirr or and motivation. It is highly desir able able that you wea r a suit or at least a shi r t, t, f or a tie was initially de signed to conceal the button s on a shir t, t, so that you will vividly see why a tie i s necessar y, y, and how long it should be. So, en sur e that you have all the essential s, stand in fr ont ont of a mirr or , place the tie on you neck and f ollow the instr uction uction s.
f f all r simple steps ( plea The pr oce ocess itself f alls into f ou our s please r ef er to the diagr am am on the blackboa r d). 1. Ensur e that the wide end i s appr oximately oximately 30 cm lowe r than the na rr ow ow end and c r oss the wide end over the narr ow ow one. This will cr eate a loop between the colla r and you r will - be tie. Pass the wide end th r ough ough thi s loop and then down. So the wide end will again be on top o f the narr ow ow one. 2. Put the wide end unde r the narr ow ow one; pull it to the le f t and acr oss the top o f the narr ow end. By this time the wide end should enci r cle cle the narr ow ow one, f or ming ming the f irst outline of a knot. The wide end should be located to the r ight ight of the knot. 3. Put the wide end beneath the na rr ow ow one again, then between the colla r and the knot, and af te ter wa war ds push it thr ough ough the loop. 4. Finally, pu sh the wide end th r ough ough the knot. Next, hold the knot with you r lef t hand, while adjusting the end s of your tie and pushing the knot to the colla r . Her e is the r esult - a perf ectly ectly tied Wind sor knot. As we c an see by now, tying a tie i s much easier than nuclea r physics, and not time -consuming at all. With a tie, a mi rr or and pr ope oper motivation it took u s two minutes to accompli sh the task accor ding ding to the in str uction uction s. If you pr actice actice f or a couple o f times, you yo u will be able to br ing ing the time r equi equir ed ed to less than hal f a minute. Fr om om now on you know the secr et, et, and you a r e welcome to u se it f or the benef it it of your appea r ance. ance.
Demonstr ation ation Speech: How to Play the Piano ation speech cannot be enough to play the piano. However , I can It is obvious that one demonstr ation teach you how to sit at the piano duly and how to star t lear ning ning to play the piano so that you want to continue. Bef or e star ting, ting, r emembe emember , that as Chinese p r ove ove r b puts it, "A jour ney ney of a thousand miles star ts ts with the f ir st st step". Also, be advised, that lea r ning ning means "mistaking", so watch and epeat af te ter me: no exper ience ience can be gained without p r actice. actice. We'll discuss such issues as: 1 ) r epeat acquaintance with the piano and its main elements an ter ms; ms; 2) lear ning ning the piano notes; 3) playing the octaves. So, let's star t. t. Fir st st of all, you will need the piano. Look at it: the most cont r asting asting elements a r e the keys, they ar e black and white. They compr ise ise a keyboar d. d. T he keyboar d usually has seven octaves and a minor thir d. d. The piano can be closed with the lid which cover s the keyboar d when the instr ument ument is not being used. So, we open the lid and pr ess ess the key to pr oduce oduce some sound. Move piano bench close r to the piano so that you can sit conveniently while playing the piano. Look down: ther e ar e thr ee ee or two pedals under your f eet, which ar e used to change the sound of a note. Raise r f eet, your eyes: you see the music r ack. ack. It is r ight ight in fr ont ont of you, and it is like a small shelf f f f or carr ying ying the music paper or sheet music etc. So, you sit, open the sheet music and put your hands on the keyboar d. d. What should you do next? The
next step is lea r ning ning the piano notes. Look at the keyboar d. d. Ther e is symmet r y which helps us to diff er entiate entiate the octaves and lea r n the location of cer tain tain piano notes. In or de der to make the pr ocess ocess of lear ning ning the piano notes easier , we'll denominate each white key with the letter . Tr aditionally, aditionally, the f ir st st seven lette r of the alphabet ar e used. Thus, hus, st ar ting ting fr om om the lef t we assign white keys with the letter s A -G. Black keys can be helpf ul ul in f inding inding the corr esponding esponding white keys. While this is not the initial f unction unction of the f or me mer , we'll star t using them this way. Look at the keyboar d attentively, and you'll notice that gr oups oups of two black keys and thr ee ee black keys epeat. So, if you need D, you can f ind ind it on the r ight ight fr om om the gr oup oup of two black keys; F is on r epeat. the lef t of gr oup oup of thr ee ee black keys etc. Though it r equi equir es es cer tain tain time to lea r n wher e dif f er ent ent keys ar e, e, this will be helpf ul ul f or sur e. e. Also, besides white keys, ther e ar e black keys. They ar e identif ied ied accor ding ding to the white keys which they bor de der with. Thus, the f ir st st black key in the gr oup oup of thr ee ee will be denominated as F# or Gb. In this case, F# means shar p F, i.e. the black note F is half-tone higher than F which is on the lef t. t. Or , it can be identi f ied ied as Gb f lat lat G), which means that black key is half -tone lower than G. You can use the guiding diagr am am in the beginning but then you have to lear n all the keys without any hint. You should be able to identif y the note simply by looking at the keyboar d. d. Thir d, d,
we'll lear n to play octaves or scales. In piano music, octave means the inter val val between the two notes which is equal to twelve ke ys. To play an octave means pr essing essing smoothly the keys in succession. The simplest simplest octave C majo major) means pr essing essing only white keys, star ting ting fr om om C and ending with the C in seven notes. G major scale, f or instance, includes G, A, B, C, D, E notes, then moving to F#, and pr oceeding oceeding in the same way. Scales should be lear ned ned as well as simplest songs. They ar e used to develop the ear f actice piano playing and pr epa epar e r f or music, pr actice ious piano playing. f or mor e ser ious To
conclude, we have consider ed ed the main issues which ar e needed to be lea r ned ned by the

Descr iptive iptive Speech - DVD movie cr eation eation needs skills and exper ience ience In my descriptive speech I would give recommendation concerning home videos. I would not go into much detail. Instead, I would describe the steps that must be kept in mind. I would give some technical details. Notes:
Purpose: to help create a good home video. Goal: to narrate about an object in a way the audience can visualize the image. Structure: technical details are few but they are recommendations that may be used by the audience. I expect from my audience some knowledge about operating a video camera. My intention is to present the process of creating a home movie in a series of steps. I would never say that many home videos are awful because a home video is not a documentary movie. Its plot may be narrated by editing the event and cutting all that is o f minor importance. Creative ideas: home video may not mirror the event; it may show it from a certain perspective. So, memorable events may be performed with the help of the material available. I would make my audience interested in the described object : a home movie that is unique, exclusive, miraculous, and entertaining. Then I would describe the process of creating a good home movie with the steps singled out in separate paragraphs. I would modestly believe, in my conclusion, that the audience would follow my advice. I would talk to the audience as an expert who can talk shop without annoying details. I would never say overtly that many home videos are rubbish. But my recommendations would ut it in the implicit - first think, then make a movie of your life. The intended audience: not friends with technical appliances

IMPROMPTU SPEECH I did not intend to take the floor, but the questions "Should women ever pay on a date" seems to be having a response in my heart. If you ask me, everyone loves to be wined and dined at another person's expense, both men and women. It is expected from the man who initiates a date to pay for it is well. However, I wonder: Is it really fair f air for a man to foot the bill all the time? You may say, he has invited her and must pay for her company. If it she were not invited, she would be able to have a Lean Cuisine by herself. In this case, the man is not paying for a meal. He is paying for the pleasure of being with a woman, so that in her presence any meal would be sweetened by her charm and a good sense of humor. Men may think that it it is out of the question to allow a woman to have a share in paying for a meal. Women may think that men may be offended if they pay on a date. In other words, women support the idea of being a man in the person who wines and dines them. However, in the 21st centur y, with women earning their own money and getting more and more more independent, we may not see a thing wrong with women paying for a date. Let's see my point. Yes, it's a different age. With all all those talks about gender roles and equality of sexes, sticking sticking to manycentury traditions when men paid for women mainly because women had no money of their own may be out of date. Of course, some men are offended when a woman offers to pay for a date. But isn't it the sign of her reluctance to continue relationship? Isn't it a straightforward straightforward "No!" to any further advances? Why, then it is the only way for a man to keep his face. When a woman suggests she should pay on a date, she demonstrates that she is not interested in a relationship. In this case, a man with her is treated as someone she's doing business with, not a person she cares for. You may say, society dictates that the initiator foots the bill on a date. In accordance with this norm, it doesn't matter whether this initiator is a man or a woman. When a man s ays, "Baby, let's go out", a woman subconsciously knows who would pay on a date. The one who is inviting is to set the foundations of the date. To be on the same side, it would be not bad from the very beginning to discuss the issue at hand. Neither of those involved should ever assume that the other is paying. Yet, a woman should pay on a date only if: - First, if it isn't her first date with a guy. - Second, if she has been going going with that guy guy for some time, and only if he p permits ermits - no shortage of money would prevent a real gentleman from having a pleasure to show that he isn't in low waters financially. - Third, if it is a woman who initiates the date.
