BSACET Issue - 7
Genesis Established in 1997, BSA College of Engineering & Technology is one of the oldest and most reputed engineering colleges in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The College is recognized by the AICTE, affiliated to the Mahamaya Technical University, University, Noida and is certified by ISO 9001:2008. The College is also an Institutional Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi. At the time when private engineering colleges were unheard of in Northern India, the Agarawal Shiksha Mandal, the flagship public educational trust - governing BSACET and a number of other educational institutions of repute pioneered in setting up an engineering college. Inspired by the success of BSACET, several other engineering institutions have subsequently come up in the region which has eventually made Mathura the third most preferred destination for engineering education after NCR and Lucknow.
Governance Being governed by a public educational trust namely the Agrawal Shiksha Mandal (www.agrawalshikshamandal.in), (www.agrawalshikshamandal.in), BSACET has been able to stick to its founding principles of being a nursery of talent rather than a shop of education.
Infrastructure The institution has got an impressive state-of-the-art state-of-the-art infrastructure in the midst of Mathura city. Spread over an area of 14.5 acres in the heart of the city within the Municipal limits, the college provides a healthy climate for technical education that paves the way for a brilliant career and prepares human beings who can stand steadfast in the highly competitive global market. The campus is at a throwaway distance from the Bus Stand and is closely located to the Railway station.
Intellectual Capital Being one of the oldest institutions and located in the heart of the city, BSACET is fortunate to have an impeccable band of committed and capable faculty members, without which the outward glitter and glamour of any institution has no meaning and relevance.
Interface The institution has developed tremendous linkages and multi-dimensional interface with the industry, government organizations, non-governmental organizations, premiere academic institutions etc. which lead to excellent placements and provide exposure to the students.

The Future of Your PC's Hardware Memristor: A Groundbreaking New Circuit This simple memristor circuit could soon transform all electronic devices. Since the dawn of electronics, we've had only three types of circuit components--resistors, inductors, and capacitors. But in 1971, UC Berkeley researcher Leon Chua theorized the possibility of a fourth type of component, one of that would be able to measure the flow of electric current: the memristor. Now, just 37 years later, Hewlett-Packard has built one. What is i t? As its name implies, the memristor can "remember" how much current has passed through it. And by alternating the amount of current that passes through it, a memristor can also become a one-element circuit component with unique properties. Most notably, it can save its electronic state even when the current is turned off, making it a great candidate to replace today's ?ash memory. Memristors will theoretically be cheaper and far faster than ?ash memory, and allow far greater memory densities. They could also replace RAM chips as we know them, so that, after you turn off your computer, it will remember exactly what it was doing when you turn it back on, and return to work instantly. This lowering of cost and consolidating of components may lead to affordable, solid-state computers that ?fit in your pocket and run many times faster than today's PCs. Someday the memristor could spawn a whole new type of computer, thanks to its ability to remember a range of electrical states rather than the simplistic "on" and "off" states that today's digital processors recognize. By working with a dynamic range of data states in an analog mode, memristor based computers could be capable of far more complex tasks than just shuttling ones and zeroes around. When is it coming? Researchers say that no real barrier prevents implementing the memristor in circuitry immediately. But it's up to the business side to push products through to commercial reality. Memristors made to replace ?ash memory (at a lower cost and
lower power consumption) will likely appear ?first; HP's goal is to offer them by 2012. Beyond that, memristors will likely replace both DRAM and hard disks in the 2014-to2016 time frame. As for memristor-based analog computers, that step may take 20-plus years. Dr. S. K. Rathi Professor & Head Computer Science & Engineering Department

Such people generally lack in striking a balance in totality, they lack in farsightedness and tolerance. For achieving these qualities everyone should utilize every possible time of his/her life. Anyone, who wants to attain the highest pinnacle of success in his life, should meticulously work upon building a progressive and strong personality. In the rapidly changing world and because of rise in new concepts each day new values/opportunities have appeared in the fields of industries and management too. People whose hearts are filled with human values, are blessed with special abilities and welcome new possibilities in life, there is ample scope of progress for them. It is evident that most of the people working in any industry are able, experts and hard inspiring. For example, we can say that if the raw material is good then the product is also expected to be good quality. Due to the difference in capacity of the people engaged in same size of units, the result is quite different. Upto now it was believed that capital, raw material, and technical knowledge are the basis of success in any industry, but now it has become evident that we can progress in the field of automation with these things but we cannot ignore human contribution in the organization and smooth functioning in handwork, ability, behavioural excellence, enthusiasm and dedication of its people. Excellence means not only to excel in achieving material gains but to achieve success in other f ields of life as well and for this we must acquire such knowledge that may help us to achieve these aims in the best, quickest and easiest way. Excellence means to have complete control over our work, hobbies, aims, habits, experiences and passion. According to John Gillen, “Excellence is an ideal quality. It is due to these qualities only that society recognized the importance of men.” In other words excellence in personal behaviour also refers to growth/development of character. There are immense possibilities within you, develop your personality with sound character. You must recognize and understand them. The key to success is hidden within you. The wealth you have earned is not important but what is important is the means you have adopted for acquiring that wealth. Your personality, your capabilities, your thoughts and your ideals are all very important in determining your character. The seeds of great personality are hidden in every individual. There is no need to make them. You have just to unveil them. There is something that covers that goodness within us, we have to remove this cover. So do not ignore or neglect this precious wealth of character that eventually leads to development of your personality. "There is a popular saying that generosity is the key to success. The secret of
life lies in giving not taking. The more you give the more you receive back with interest”. Dr. Govind Chawla Asst. Professor & Head Master of Business Administration
Personality Development: Sound Character In today's materialistic world there is a rat race for achieving things at supersonic speed and there is chaos all around, everyone is involved i n some or the other problem which does not seem to resolve. The sense of great dissatisfaction has set deep down to resolve. The sense of great dissatisfaction has set deep down in our hearts. We wish to board more money, more comforts and more and more luxuries as compared to others. This greed has overpowered us to such an extent that we do not hesitate in fulfilling our desires even at the cost of spoiling and ruining our relations with others. We are ready to do anything to make ourselves successful and capable. Negative thinking and negative approach leads to downfall whereas the result of positive thinking, positive approach and good behaviour is no less than a boon. Today the progress/success of an individual is judged by his materialistic achievements. Therefore, men adopt all fair and unfair means to attain materialistic components. It may be important to attain to lead a luxurious and comfortable life but this cannot necessarily make you happy and successful. If we look around we can find many rich people who had all luxuries of life and they did become wealthy but they were unable to become good human beings. People who are engaged in achieving materialistic things remain busy in developing only one aspect of their personality. The result is that t heir entire personality becomes imbalanced/controversial.
Mystery Of Chemistry Most of us eat eggs either by boiling or by making different delicious forms. But when you boil the eggs many chemical changes occur while an egg is cooked. A hen's egg is the composition of very complicated biological system. But when we focus on the major parts that we see when we crack and open an egg: the shell white hard upper portion, the opaque viscous liquid known as albumen and the yolk (yellow). The shell protects the inner portion from the shocks and outer atmosphere. But it has many microscopic pores through which air can pass. The albumen is 88% water and 12% protein and a small amount of Iron (II) sulfide in the form of Fe+2 ions. By the study of chemical composition of egg we can say that proteins are the polymers of amino acids and these proteins in sol utions remain present as 'micelles' (associated colloids) i.e. Polymeric molecules folds in such a way that the hydrophobic part (water heating) buried or present inside and hydrophilic part (water loving) remains outside towards the solution (inside shell) environment. This nature of protein allows it to perform normal physiological functions. We know that heat causes molecules of proteins to unfold and denature. Chemicals such as acids and salts (NaCl) can also denature proteins. To avoid contact with water the hydrophobic parts of

denatured proteins will clump together or coagulate to form a semisolid opaque white solid. Heating also decomposes some proteins so that sulfur in them combines with hydrogen to form hydrogen sulfide (H2S) , an unpleasant smelling gas that can sometimes be detected when the shell of boiled egg is cracked. The colour of the 12 minutes boiled egg will be opaque while the colour of overcooked egg will be yellow from outside. To escape from cracking of shell while boiling always place the egg f irst in cold water then bring water to boil or by pin-boiling the outer shell or may add salt/vinegar to heat water. By the above fact we can think that one day before boiled eggs or frozen then boiled eggs are injurious for health. Always eat freshly boiled eggs. Dr. Ajay Agrawal Lecturer Chemistry Department
Job opportunities in Indian IT Sector The use of word "information" extends from, day-to-day activities to explain technical details. Generally, information relates to the knowledge gained through education, experience and study. On the other hand, technology aims at meeting day-to-day objectives of human beings or knowledge obtained through influence of human environment. Technology makes the human life easy through tools, techniques, and usage of light sources & make the work more productive. In today's scenario, when information is growing at a fast pace, then this information can be managed through technology. This information management through technology relieves human beings from storing, recalling and processing this information through human brain. Information Technology can be defined to be managing the collection, design, development, implementation, support of computer based system specially software processes & hardware. IT is related to converting the electronic information stored & secured in the computer, which is processed, communicated and recovered back for use as a computer software. Collecting, storing, processing, producing and communicating data comes under information technology. This data may be in different forms, textual, graphical, audio, video etc. Information Technology includes computer networks, satellite communication, robotics, video, cable TV, e-mail, electronic games and automated office tools. Information industry includes all computer communication and electronics related components like hardware and software related services. IT not only improves information collection and processing but also preserves the confidentiality and integrity of well organized information. Indian IT industry has played an important role on projecting India on the global map. With the success of IT industry, India has emerged as a power on the world map. According to National Association of Software and service companies (Nasscom), which is specialized and ranked first in providing software services, IT sector's revenue in form of gross domestic product(gdp) has increased from 1.2 %, in financial year 1997-98, to 5.5%, in financial year 2007-08. IT sector has registered an increase in the price from 3.3% to 3.9% (financial year 2008) in Indian economy. Direct employment in Indian IT BPO crossed the mark of 2 million which shows an improvement of 389 thousand professionals from financial year 2007. Indirect employment from IT sector has also been estimated to be around 80-90 million. IT BPO export(including hardware export) which was 318 billion US Dollars in financial year 2007, reached 409 billion US Dollars, in financial year 2008, showing an increase of 28%.Out of many global IT companies, many have established development centers in India where new products are produced. Easily available technical manpower is the most valuable resource of India in today's knowledge economy. India is next to America in terms of country where most number of english speaking professional scientists are available. Abhishek Garg Lecturer Information Technology Department

Emergence of advanced engineering material Emergence of advanced engineering material plays an important role in modern manufacturing industries. Today’s manufacturing industries are facing challenges for shaping and/or finishing these advanced difficult-to-machine materials, such as titanium-based or nickel-based super alloys, ceramics, polycrystalline diamonds (PCD), composites, etc. due to their improved mechanical properties such as improved strength, heat resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. The high market of today’s generation has posed challenges before rapidly evolving field of science and technology. Particularly, in the area of material science in terms of materials developed for superior performances. Emergence of such materials is popularly known as “Composite Materials”. Aluminium has been used as a matrix material owing to its excellent mechanical properties coupled with good formability. Addition of reinforcements in aluminium system improves mechanical properties of the composite. Though composite materials possess superior mechanical properties, but abrasiveness of the ceramic particles hinders the machining process of composites and thus limits its effective use in wide areas. In recent years, aluminium alloy based metal matrix composites are gaining importance in several aerospace and automobile applications. Aluminium alloys reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) is used for a wide range of metallic and ceramic substrate and plating materials used in microelectronic packaging for aerospace, automotive, microwave applications and when it is reinforced with aluminium oxide (Al2O3) it can be used as microelectronic, optical and mechanical applications because of its outstanding hardness, high chemical resistance, good mechanical strength. HMP is the solution of this problem. Dr. Sanjeev Gaur Professor & Head Mechanical Engineering Department
Energy Layer A wide range of services have been designed & already implemented, as a result of the PRIME ENERGY IT project & the active collaboration of GAIA, in order to promote the energy effeciency in the information technology devices. The Electronics, Information Technology and Telecommunication Cluster in the Basque country (GAIA-Cluster TEIC) has participated, together with an international consortium of companies and institutions and as the only Spanish partner, in the European project PRIME ENERGY IT since May 2010. The project aims at promoting the development of a market based on sustainable technologies and infrastructures, among which these are included servers, data storage, networks and installation equipment as well as new technologies for energy management. The origin of the project, supported by the Intelligent Energy Program of the European Commission, arises from the need of putting into practice new technology. This will result in a reduction of the energy demand, needed early due to the increasing energy consumption of IT devices. Among these services, the comprehensive training program addressed for the professionals in the area need to be emphasized. The objective of the training is to facilitate the management and selection of the energy efficiency and provide them with the knowledge of the rules and procedures for improving the implementation of energy efficiency. The program, which has been designed by the technical University of Berlin, Polytechnic of Milan and the University of Coimbra, has been divided into seven modules available on the project webpage. GAIA- Cluster TEIC in collaboration with the associated company PQC has already imparted this training modelity in Bilbao, Madrid and Barcelona. Additionally, a set of brochures on energy efficient technology and best practice cases in data centers in Europe have been published, as well as a brochure about the process of Green Public Procurement. What is Smart Grid? • The Smart Grid is a combination of hardware, management and reporting software, built atop an intelligent communications infrastructure. • In the world of the Smart Grid, consumers and utility companies alike have tools to manage, monitor and respond to energy issues. • The flow of electricity from utility to consumer becomes a two-way conversation, saving consumers money, energy, delivering more transparency in terms of end-user use, and reducing carbon emissions. • Modernization of the electricity delivery system so that it monitors, protects and automatically optimizes the operation of its interconnected elements – from the central and distributed generator through the high-voltage network to industrial users, to energy storage installations and to end-use consumers.
Why Smart Grid? • Smart Grid enables better energy management. • Proactive management of electrical network during emergency situations. • Better demand supply / demand response management. • Better power quality. • Reduced carbon emissions. Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher competition for first year students of all Branches of B.Tech was coordinated by Mr. Varun Chhabra, Asst Prof, ME Deptt. & Mr. F arhan Aziz, Asst Prof, ECE Deptt. Hon'ble Chairman Shri Madhava Sharan Agrawala says “The party scripts a beginning of celebrations & hard working students would be encompassing for coming crucial years for their bright future. Fresher's party is all about making a best start to the new academic year! A time of the year to create an everlasting relationship!” At last the conclusion is that the cultural programme makes the students to improve the co-curricular activities through which they can show their talent in the other field of education. It also improves selfconfidence in life of the student and prepares him to complete in a world full of challenges. Ms. Durga Puja Convener,Cultural Club
Challenges Faced by Smart Grid • Present Infrastructure is inadequate and requires augmentation to support the growth of Smart Grids. • Most renewable resources are intermittent and cannot be relied on (in its present form)for secure energy supply. • Regulatory Policies to deal with consequences of Smart Grid; like off-peak, peak tariffs and other related matters. • Grid Operation : Monitoring & control.
