The purpose of the present booklet is to define the composition and the functionality of a system of engine control diesel HDI BOSCH of the type EDC 16 C3 for engine DV4TD. This device is composed of a numerical electronic computer which analyze information coming from various sensors, and consequently order at the convenient period the injectors. It also has charges of it the regulation of the pressure, the piloting of the electromagnetic sluice gate of recycling of exhaust fumes. GENERAL INFORMATION: SYSTEM Of DIRECT INJECTION HDI

I - PREAMBLE
The development of the new range of engine DV4TD to license to associate a new powerful system of injection it. This system makes it possible to take account of the requirements in term of depollution the standards EURO 3 and it future normalizes EURO 4, approval of control, economy and reliability. WITH - POLLUTION The combustion of the fuel causes the emission of the following pollutants: • carbon dioxide (CO2), • carbon monoxide (CO), • unburnt hydrocarbons (HC), • nitrogen oxides (Nox), • carbon particles. The antipollution regulations become more strict and involve the following evolutions: • installation of a device of recycling of exhaust fumes (EGR) decreasing the nitrogen oxide rate (Nox), • reduction of the quantity of suffers in fuel (SO2). Improvement of the fuel with license the installation of catalysts of oxidation on the vehicles Diesel. The installation of a catalyst of oxidation causes the reduction of the following pollutants: • carbon monoxide (CO), • unburnt hydrocarbons (HC), • carbon particles. 8 CITROEN Chapter 2 III - FUEL HEATER (ELECTRIC) (1276) WITH - ROLE The fuel heater brings the fuel to its temperature of use. • - DESCRIPTION The fuel heater heats the fuel coming from the fuel tank. The fuel heater (23) is composed of resistances (integrated into the fuel filter). The fuel circulates around resistance. This course allows an optimal distribution of heat. The temperature control is ensured by thermostat. C - ESTABLISHMENT Establishment: integrated into the fuel filter. IV - PUMP HIGH FUEL PRESSURE WITH - ROLE OF THE PUMP HIGH FUEL PRESSURE • To provide the high fuel pressure. • To supply the injectors diesel through the grout pipe system common high pressure. • The pump high fuel pressure is pulled by the belt of distribution. Foot-note: The pump high fuel pressure is not a pump saddle jib crane and does not require a chock. The part high pressure of the pump is cast solid and includes/understands three elements with 120°

10 CITROEN Chapter 2 C - PHASE OF OPERATION The driving calculator controls the fuel flow control unit in closed loop, via the sensor high fuel pressure. The driving calculator controls the volumetric governor by sending a flexible intensity of form RC0 (Cyclic Report/ratio of Opening). The driving calculator uses the fuel flow control unit to manage the fuel pressure in the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure. If signal RCO is small, the fuel flow control unit lets pass a great quantity of fuel towards the pump high fuel pressure. If signal RCO is large the fuel flow control unit a small quantity of fuel towards the pump high fuel pressure lets pass. Foot-note: The fuel flow control unit is open when it is not ordered by the driving calculator. V - SPILL VALVE WITH - ROLE The spill valve (17) allows: • the degasification of the pump high fuel pressure, • lubrication interns pump high fuel pressure, • regulation of the pressure at the entry of the volumetric governor. Caution: No intervention is authorized on the spill valve.

11 CITROEN Chapter 2 VI - TRANSFER PUMP (PRÉ-ALIMENTATION) WITH - ROLE Role of the transfer pump: • ensure the pumping of the fuel in the containing hydrocarbon tank, • supply the pump high fuel pressure, • allows the lubrication and the cooling of the pump high fuel pressure. B - DESCRIPTION The transfer pump (pre-food) is a gears positive-displacement pump. The depression lies between 0,5 and 1 bar when the fuel returns in the transfer pump. The fuel pressure at exit of transfer pump towards the pump high fuel pressure varies according to the engine speed (between 4,5 and 6 bars). Caution: No intervention is authorized on the pump high fuel pressure. VII - FUEL FLOW CONTROL UNIT WITH - ROLE The fuel flow control unit (20) modifies the active mass fuel rate of flow of the transfer pump towards the pump high fuel pressure. The pump high fuel pressure, compresses the necessary quantity of fuel required by the driving calculator. The reduced fuel flow control unit: • the heating of the fuel, • consumption by the pump high fuel pressure.

VIII - CRAWL Of INJECTION COMMON HIGH FUEL PRESSURE WITH - ROLE Role of the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure: • to store the quantity of fuel necessary to the engine whatever the phase of use, • to deaden the pulsations created by the injections, • to connect the elements of the system high pressure. Elements connected to the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure: • supply line high fuel pressure, • supply lines of the injectors diesel, drain of the return carburizing towards tank, sensor high fuel pressure. 14 - Sensor high fuel pressure 27 - Return carburizing towards tank carburizing 28 - Arrival of the fuel high pressure Foot-note: The limiting device of pressure of the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure makes it possible to limit the maximum pressure in the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure between 1400 and 1500 bars. INJECTORS DIESEL (1131, 1132, 1133, 1134) WITH - ROLE The injectors diesel inject the fuel necessary to the operation of the engine. The direct fuel injection in the head of the pistons improves the output of the engine. The fuel can be injected into the following cases: • préinjection, • principal injection, • postinjection (if severized depollution, currently it is not used).

The quantity of fuel injected depends on the following parameters: • duration of the electric drive (calculator of injection), • speed of opening of the diesel injector, • hydraulic flow of the diesel injector (a number and bore), • fuel pressure in the grout pipe system common high pressure fuel. Fuel pressures used in the system of direct injection HDI prohibit the direct electric drive of the injectors diesel. The diesel opening of the injectors is obtained by difference in pressure enters the room of order (39) and the room of pressure (36). The diesel nozzle needle (35) is plated on its seat by the spring (37). The diesel nozzle needle (35) is surmounted by the piston of order (38) (the piston of order is free in its boring). The head of the piston of order emerges in the room of order (39). The room of order is in connection with the following circuits: • system high pressure carburizing through the jet (40), • return circuit to the tank carburizing by the jet (41). The room of order (39) is isolated from the return circuit of fuel by the needle of the electromagnetic sluice gate (33). The diesel nozzle needle (36 35) is plated on its seat by the spring (31). The fuel is distributed in an identical way between the rooms (39) and (36). The jet (41) is larger than the jet (40). The needle of the electromagnetic sluice gate rises as of the food of the reel of the electromagnetic sluice gate (magnetic field). 16 CITROEN Chapter 2 1 - Closed diesel injector The effort exerted by the high pressure is identical between the room of order (39) and the room of pressure (36). The piston of order is motionless (plate against the diesel nozzle needle). The increase in pressure in the grout pipe system common high fuel pressure supports the closing of the diesel injector. 2 - Principle of Opening of a diesel injector The calculator of injection supplies the electromagnetic sluice gate of order. Phase of operation as soon as the needle of the electromagnetic sluice gate (33) rises under the action of the electromagnetic sluice gate of order (magnetic field): • a fuel east leakage creates through the jet (41), • the fuel entry by the jet (40) does not compensate for the leakage by the jet (41), • balance between the pressure of the rooms (39) and (36) is broken, • the pressure present in the room of pressure (36) raises the diesel nozzle needle, • the piston of order goes up, • the fuel is sent in the head of piston. Foot-note: The fuel injection lasts as much as the electromagnetic sluice gate of the diesel injector is supplied. 17 CITROEN Chapter 2 3 - Characteristics according to the duration of ordering of the electromagnetic sluice gate Order short duration: • the piston of order presents a certain inertia, • the needle of the diesel injector is slightly raised, • the quantity of fuel injected is weak, • the pressure of injection is lower than the pressure present in the grout pipe system high fuel pressure. Order long duration: • the piston of order and the diesel nozzle needle are completely raised, • the quantity of fuel injected is large, • the pressure of injection is equal to the pressure present in the grout pipe system high fuel pressure. 4 - Principle of closing of a diesel injector Phase of operation as soon as the calculator of injection cuts off the supply of the electromagnetic sluice gate of the diesel injector: • the spring (32) of the electromagnetic sluice gate plates the needle of the electromagnetic sluice gate (34) on its seat, • the jet (41) is sealed, • the fuel leakage towards the return circuit ceases, • the rise in pressure in the room of order (32) causes the closing of the diesel injector, • the balance of the pressures is restored between the rooms (39) and (36), • the diesel injector is ready for a new cycle.

18 CITROEN Chapter 2 X - CHARACTERISTIC OF THE DIESEL ORDERING OF THE INJECTORS WITH - GENERAL INFORMATION The diesel ordering of the injectors is carried out by the stage of ordering of the calculator of injection. The diesel stage of order of the injectors makes it possible to obtain the following tensions: • a tension of 80 V at a peak necessary to the beginning of the diesel lifting of the injectors, • a tension of 50 V necessary to the maintenance of the diesel opening of the injectors. The stage of order integrated into the calculator of injection comprises a condenser which stores energy necessary to the diesel ordering of the injectors. Between each injection, the calculator of injection sends impulses on the reel of the injector not requested. The impulses create a tension induced to charge the stage of order (condensing). The turbine, setting in motion by exhaust fumes, actuates the compressor which ensures the compression of the allowed air. Foot-note: Greasing of the turbocompressor: very high speeds of the moving parts and the strong temperatures to be dissipated, require a very neat greasing.
