To my fellow drumming friend, This exercise alternates between right and left hand lead. It starts with a single paradiddle, then transitions to a double paradiddle, and finally a triple paradiddle. Practice this exercise on a practice pad or snare drum when first starting out. Don't worry about speed at first, just worry about creating even 16th notes when you transition between the singles and doubles. Once you feel comfortable playing the exercise in its simplest form, I recommend adding in the bass drum on the accented notes to further challenge yourself. From there, you can start to move the accents around the cymbals and toms to create a more musical sounding fill or solo. Enjoy! - Jared Falk P.S. Have questions?
