Donnie : I think you should focus on the fuel system. Donnie : The 0790 168F04 is low voltage but, it think think this machine machine has the latc latching hing fuel shutoff and w ould not be effected by the low voltage. Donnie : The best things to check on the fuel system is the pressure going to the ba ck of the cylinder cylinder head (supply). (supply). Then check the suction suction and return lines lines for air in in the fuel.
Donnie : Install a piece of clear line line w ere the sucti suction on line goes to the engine and run engine to see the flow. Only a small amount of air should be se en. Move line line to betw een the w ater se parator and the transfer pump second and recheck. Lastly Lastly move it to the return line and check for air com coming ing from from the e ngine. If no air is going into the engine b ut it is comi coming ng from the engine (more will be s een under load), you you ha ve a loose inj injector ector and you s hould have the m all removed, cleaned cleaned and reseated with the press tool for a proper fit. fit.
Customer : Lost at the mom moment: ent: we have bee n running the machine machine only on wee kends, last wee k ran fine, fine, now after a cold weathe r start, develops this miss miss and huge loss of pow er er.. could could this have anything to do with using the e ther aid?
Donnie : No, not unless it over loaded the engine w ith ether and cause d to lock and bend a connecting rod. This This is not like like using the fact factory ory system. Donnie : The factory system lim limits its the a mount and o nly allows allows o ne s hot pe r starting attempt. Customer :

That's what i used s o relieved relieved to know that is probably not the case.
Donnie : It is the safest way. The most common problem with this engine is air in the fuel and/or low fuel pressure. Customer : Does this engine use a mechanical lift pump to feed the injection pump? Donnie : The trans fer pump is built built into the go vernor drive hous ing. This This engine d oes not ha ve an injection pump. It has mechanical unit injectors injectors (MUI) simi similar lar to the Detroit Diesel.
Customer : I will try your first first few tips and se e w here it take s me. Thanks for respon ding so qu ick ickly ly,, Donnie. Donnie : OK, let let me know wha t you find. By By the w ay, fuel pressure nee ds to be a bove 35 psi, 50 is is be st. The tranfer pump pump can only make 80 psi in perfect conditons. You can pinch off the re turn line line to s ee how high it can can ge t but, only do this for a short pe riod of time. time.
