FOREWORD
Te our previous editions o this outstanding resource have been widely used by counselors, career development proessionals, assessment specialists, and counselor educators or decades. Work on the our previous editions o the Guide, dating back to 1979, represent multiple years o proessional dedication and commitment by previous co-editors Jerome . Kapes, Marjorie M. Mastie, and Edwin A. Whiteld. Te legacy provided by these editors continues with the publication o this th edition, under the excellent leadership o Edwin A. Whiteld, Rich W. Feller, and Chris Wood. None o the work on this and previous editions o the Counselor’s Guide to Career Assessment Instruments would have been possible over the past 30 years without the collegial and proessional commitment o time and expertise by assessment and career development proessionals who have served as advisory committee members, chapter authors, and reviewers o hundreds o assessment instruments. In addition, test publishers have supported our eforts through providing materials and resources or the reviewers and inormation to accompany each review in the Guide. We are truly indebted to all o these proessionals or their outstanding contributions to the improvement and growth o the career assessment eld. Te editors have made several changes in this edition to enhance the Guide’s overall value and contribution to the eld, including new material in Chapters 2 and 7, as well as revisions to each o the other chapters. Te Additional Instruments chapter has been revised by eliminating out-o-date instruments and adding new instruments. In addition, the editors have made a concerted efort to include reviews o a signicantly increased number o assessments that are useul in adult career decision making. Tis th edition o A Counselor’s Guide to Career Assessment Instruments is an example o a very productive and collaborative efort between the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the Association or Assessment in Counseling and Education (AACE), both o which are divisions o the American Counseling Association (ACA). We hope that you will use this resource to enhance your work with clients o all ages! Donna Gibson

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Tis is the th edition o A Counselor’s Guide to Career Assessment Instruments, and the rst without the editorship, dedication, leadership and commitment o Dr. Jerome . Kapes. Jerry Kapes, who passed away since the last edition o the Guide was published, was the primary reason that Counselor’s Guide came into existence and still exists today, 30 years ater an initial meeting o NCDA and AACE members who met in the late 1970s to discuss the need or such a resource. He, along with Marjorie Mastie chaired that meeting and coordinated the rst edition o the Guide. Because o his belie in its value and his continuing commitment, it has remained over the intervening quarter century as a quality resource or career development and assessment proessionals. We owe him a debt o gratitude. Since its inception, the Guide has beneted rom an array o talent and proessional commitments that have produced over 300 career assessment reviews. Hundreds o career development and assessment proessionals have volunteered their time and expertise to develop and produce these reviews and content chapters making it a resource produced by and or the proession. Also, the ve editions o the Guide have been enhanced and improved through the work o various committee members and individuals who advised the editors on test selections, available resources and research related to career assessment. In addition, over the years, hundreds o test publishers have provided complementary copies o instruments and manuals to the reviewers o their instruments eatured in each edition o the Guide. Te ormatted inormation preceding each review also is provided by the publishers. When the opportunity arises we encourage you to thank them or their support o our proession. Each edition o the Guide has beneted rom the support o the Buros Institute at the University o Nebraska-Lincoln, producer and publisher o the Mental Measurement Yearbooks (MMY), a revered and respected standard in the eld o assessment, and multiple other publications and guides addressing assessment quality and use. Buros has graciously allowed the editors o the Guide to approach MMY reviewers and to allow them to adapt their work previously published in recent editions o the MMY to t the ormat or the Guide. Te th edition o the Guide is the rst edition that Deneen Pennington, Executive Director o NCDA, and her staf have been involved in the development and publishing o the Guide. Teir eforts in turning our work into a nished product are appreciated; especially Mary Ann Powell, who coordinated our eforts with NCDA headquarters and book design and printing contractors, and provided a polished nal product. Te timeline or completion o each edition o the Guide, once work is started, usually requires about three years rom initial contact to nished product. Such a span o time can require adjustments that afect amily commitments and priorities. Recognizing this, we extend our thanks to our amilies. In addition, appreciation rom: • Ed Whiteld…to his wie Marjorie or her support or this work, times ve. • Rich Feller…to his parents Martha and Edward Feller or support over a lietime. • Chris Wood…to his wie Angie or her patience and understanding. Rich Feller and Chris Wood ofer tremendous gratitude to senior editor Ed Whiteld or his vision, leadership, and perseverance in the publication o this work. His incredible respect or the history and importance o A Counselor’s Guide to Career Assessment Instruments is a testimony to his commitment to this 30 year project, career development, and NCDA. Few in our proession have added as deep a contribution to the assessment literature as has Ed Whiteld. xii
