Part 1
At 1the time of publication of this standard not all of the reforenced Euronorms ( E U) in clause 2 had been trans· formed i nto mandatory European Standards (EN). Until each of these Euronorms is transformed i nto a European Stan dard, EN 10 025 permits either implementation of the requi rements of the Euronorms or implementation of the requirements of the correspo nding British Standards (BS) (see footnote 1 to cl ause 2 and annex B). To ensure that users know what is to be supplied when products are ordered and supplied in accordance with this standard the responsible BSI Technical Committee has agrned that the standards to be applied ( E N, EU, ISO or BS) are given in table B.1 of national appendix B. It should be noted that as each Euronorm is transformed into a European Standard the requirements of the Euro pean Standard become mandatory. Appropriate amend ments to/revis ions of/new editions of this standard will be issued as necessary. When adopting the text of the European Standard, the following textual error was discovered. It has been marked in the text and has been reported to ECISS/TC 10 in a proposal to amend the text of the Eur1 o pean Standard.
Textual error.
In table 10, against the designations Fe 5 1 0 DD1 and Fe !5 10 DD2, the UK equivalent should be 50 DD i n both cases. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself con1fer immunity from legal obligations.
Techn ical delivery conditions general requi rements
As explai ned i n 6.2, the designation system used in this standard is based on Euronorm 27-74 'Designations of steels'. The responsi bi le BSI Techn ical Committee has agreed that these designations should be used when referenci ng steel grades in accordance with this standard. For the UK ed ition of this standard only grades Fe 360 A, Fe 430 A and Fe 510 A are specified i n annex D 'Non· confl icting national add itions'. These are the former grades 40A, 43A and 50A in BS 4360:-1 986 which have been redesignated for consistency with the designations of the other grades i n this standard. The ful l list of designations is: Fe 3 1 0·0 Fe 360 B, B F U, B F N , C, D 1 , D2 Fe 430 B, C, D 1 , D2 Fe 510 B, C, D 1 , D2, D D 1 , DD2 Fe 490·2, Fe 590-2, Fe 690·2 Fe 360 A, Fe 430 A, Fe 510 A (see an nex D)

7.4.U If agreed a t t h e time of the order products of quality 01, D2, D D1 and DD2 shall comply with the through-thickness properties of EU RONORM 164. Option 8.
7.5 Technological properties
°
NOTE: Stress relief annealing at more than 580 C or for over 1 hour may lead to a deterioration of the mechanical properties . If the purchaser Intends to stress relief anneal the products at higher temperatures or for longer times the minimum values of the mechanical properties after such a treatment should be agreed at the time of the enquiry and o rde r .
7.4.2 For flat products the nominal thickness applies. For long products of irregular section the nominal thickness of that part from which the samples are taken applies (see annex A). 7.4.3 For flat products of quality D 1 and DD1 supplied as-rolled for norm alizing by the purchaser the samples shall be normalized. The values obtained from the normalized samples shall com ply with this European Standard. NOTE: The results of these tests do not represent the properties of
the supplied products but indicate the properties which may be achieved after correct normalizing.
7.4.4 If the nominal product thickness is not sufficient for the preparation of full size impact. test pieces, test pieces of smaller width shall be taken (see 8.6.3.3) and the applicable values shall be taken from figure 1 .
I mpact tests are not required for nominal thickness <6 mm. For products of quality D 1 , D2, D D 1 and D D2 with nominal thickness< 6 mm the ferritic grain size shall be 6, verified by the method as described in EU RONORM 1 03*, if specified at the time of enquiry and order. O ption 6. When aluminium is used as the grain refining element, the grain size requirement shall be deemed to be fulfilled if on ladle analysis the aluminium content is not less than 0,020 % total aluminium or alternatively, 0,0 1 5 % acid soluble aluminium. I n this case verification of the grain size is not required. 7.4.5 The impact properties of quality B products are verified by test only when specified at the time of the enquiry and order. Option 7 .
7.5.11 We/dability
7.5.11.1 The steels specified in this European Standard do not have unlimited suitability for the various welding prociesses, since the behaviour of a steel during and after weld ing depends not only on the material but also on the dime1nsions and shape and on the manufacturing and service conditions of the components.
7.5.11.2 There is no information concerning the weldability of the qualities 0 and 2 available as no requirements are specified concerning the chemical composition. 7.5.11.3 Steels of the qualities 8, C, 01, D2, D D 1 and DD2 are generally suitable for welding, by all welding processes.
The weldability increases for each grade from quality B to D D. For IFe 360 B killed steels are preferable to rimmed steels particularly if segregation zones could be encountered during welding. NOTE 1: With increasing product thickness, increasing strength level and increasing carbon equivalent value the occurrence of cold crack ing in the welded zone forms the main risk. Cold cracking is caused by the fol l owing factors in combination: the amount of diffusible hydrogen in the weld metal - a brittle structure of the heat affected zone - silnlficant tensile stress concentrations in the welded joint. NOTE 2: When using reco mmendations as laid down, for example in Information Circular Number 2 or any relevant national standard, the rncommended welding conditions and the various welding ranges of the steel grades can be determined depending on the product thickness, the applied welding energy, the design require ments, the electrode efficiency, the welding process and the weld metal propert ies.
7 .5.2
Hot forming
Only products ordered and supplied in the normalized or normalized rolled condition shall comply with the require ments of tables 4 and 5 if hot forming is carried out after deliv1ery (see 7.4.1).
