The filmic technique of split screen, paralleling multitudes of people going to work (daily hum-drum), a major sporting event with multitudes of people cheering in unison and Aron on his own at home.
This juxtaposition demonstrates Arons decision not to belong.
Through bodily exhaustion Aron hallucinates. He sees his family on a couch, only a couple of metres away, close by him. His anger and subsequent resistance to conform and belong quickly melts away at the joyous sight of his family, (whom he has not seen in many years as a result of his choice to not belong to the family unit).
From this one may gather that the director wishes to emphasize the remedying qualities of belonging.
