VOLVO
B9TL range
Great expectations for city traffic The latest generation of Volvo’s double-decker chassis is particularly well adapted for efficient and environmentally optimised city operations with demands on high capacity. Our powerful, fuelefficient 9-litre engine and all-new matching automatic transmission mean the Volvo B9TL is optimised for fast and economic operations involving frequent stop-go traffic. The engine is certified for the new Euro 4 emissions requirements, which means even lower exhaust emissions than ever before. The Volvo B9TL is available with or without a bogie axle, and both variants are built for a long and profitable life in the city. For the benefit of passengers, operators and the environment.
The Volvo B9TL is available in two basic variants Volvo B9TL 4x2: Chassis with rear-mounted, transverse, vertical engine and two axles. For buses with total lengths up to 11 m. Volvo B9TL 6x2: Chassis with rear-mounted, transverse, vertical engine and three axles. For buses with total lengths of 12 and approx. 12.7 m.
Parts that make an economic whole Frame made of high-strength steel
The high-strength steel frame combines good stability with low weight. The precise dimensions make bodybuilding simpler. Powerful, environmentally optimised engine
The engine in the Volvo B9TL is a newly developed 9-litre engine that offers superb driveability and excellent fuel economy. The Volvo D9B is available with 260 (1100 Nm) or 310 hp (1400 Nm). In practice this means instant response to the throttle, alert acceleration and excellent low-rev lugging ability. The Volvo D9B is also an environmentally optimised engine. It is designed from the ground up to produce extremely low particle emissions. In order to also reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides to extremely low levels, it uses SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology for aftertreatment of exhaust gases. In this process, a mixture of urea and water known as AdBlue is injected into the hot exhaust gases. As they pass through the catalytic converter, a chemical reaction takes place that transforms the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour. The technology is both simple and dependable, and makes it possible to meet both current

The Volvo D9B is an in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 9.4 litres, featuring a single cylinder head, overhead camshaft, 4 valves per cylinder and unit injectors.
The ZF Ecolife is an entirely newly developed transmission designed for the 9-litre engine’s high torque and engineered for a long service life, low fuel consumption and excellent total economy.
The driven axle is a drop-centre portal axle with a wide range of alternative ratios: 6.20, 5.74 and 5.13:1.
The latest generation of Volvo’s electronically controlled disc brakes provide excellent braking performance.
Matching driveline
The Volvo B9TL is available with a choice of two automatic transmissions, the 6-speed ZF Ecolife and the 4-speed Voith 864.5, both with an integrated retarder. The ZF Ecolife is an entirely newly developed transmission tailored for the 9-litre engine’s high torque and designed for a long service life, minimal internal losses and thus excellent total economy. One major reason for this is that the angle gear has been designed in one piece without a ratio step-down. Volvo is the first manufacturer in the industry to offer the ZF Ecolife. Increased safety and less wear with EBS
The Volvo B9TL is equipped with the latest generation of Volvo’s electronically controlled braking system, Volvo EBS, which features a number of safety- and comfort-enhancing functions such as Brake Blending, Hill Start Aid and Emergency Braking Assistance. With Brake Blending, all the braking systems (wheel brakes, engine brake and retarder), can interact for best braking ability and minimum wear on the brake discs. Hill Start Aid helps the driver when starting on an uphill gradient by keeping the vehicle stationary or prolonging braking effect even after the driver lifts his foot off the brake pedal. Emergency Braking Assistance helps the driver maximise braking power in a panic braking situation. Volvo EBS promotes increased safety and cuts stopping distances. With the help of electronics, the system reads off parameters such as acceleration, steering wheel angle and wheel rotation speed. With the help of this information, the system can adjust brake pressure individually for each axle. If the electronics fail, there is also a parallel backup system consisting of two pneumatic circuits. Volvo EBS is offered in packages with various functions; contact your Volvo representative for more information.
