Multi-Document Projects Automation Studio allows the creation of multi-document projects. This is helpful when separating diagrams by functions and categories. During simulation, all diagrams interact with each other. Users can also include other types of documents such as Word, Excel, or any Windows-based application. Communication to Controllers and Equipment via OPC and CANBUS To connect Automation Studio to the outside world, users can choose one of two options: the I/O Interface kit or the OPC Client module. Automation Studio automatically assigns internal identifiers that conform to the ISO 1219-2 standard. The ID will automatically state the installation number, circuit number, component code and unique identifier. The identifiers can be renamed in any way you choose.
Component Properties and Catalog Information For all components, users can assign real physical values such as diameters, lengths, etc. To complement a design, users can also enter catalog descriptions, attributes, and accessories belonging to a specific component. This is very helpful when generating a complete project’s bill of materials.

DYNAMIC AND REALISTIC SIMULATION ... Simple Simulation Setup and Operation Automation Studio's pneumatic and hydraulic systems' simulation features were designed for ease of use and quick setup. With Automation Studio, users do not need specific training or to spend time developing models. The models are included for all supplied components and users only need to determine a limited number of parameters. This makes the software useful for a broader range of users and eliminates the need for advanced training and support.
Quick Simulation After a circuit is completed, you can simply click on the simulation start button to animate your circuit.
Simulation Parameter Setup The default simulation parameters supplied with the hydraulic and pneumatic components eliminate the need to perform an initial setup. Just lay out the components and start the simulation. For most components, users can modify simulation parameters such as applied loads, dimensions, and angles, as well as advanced parameters including internal leakage, friction, etc. Calculated variables such as area and volume are automatically displayed. To illustrate more complex concepts, users can modify the simulation parameters and show different behavior including dynamic friction, static force, etc. Wherever applicable, characteristic curves can be entered to obtain a more realistic behavior of the system using numerical interpolation.

Dynamic Parameter Tuning Lines and piping can be sized in length and diameter to reflect the effect of friction and pressure drops in the system. Adjustable flow control and regulator values can be modified during simulation.

This library provides a very wide array of commonly used components in the field of mobile and industrial hydraulics to perform control of position, force and velocity. The library comes with ISO compliant symbols and includes simulation models for servo and servo proportional valves, variable displacements pumps, proportional pressure regulators and flow controls. To complete system design and allow flexibility in control and interaction, the library provides a PID controller, measuring devices as well as set point generators. The Proportional Hydraulic Library makes Automation Studio the most unique, innovative and indispensable tool for any hydraulic systems designer in all applicable fields. Flexible PID Control The Proportional Hydraulic Library includes a PID controller that can be preset in any required fashion with configurable gain values. Furthermore, a transfer function equation can be easily implemented using the provided user friendly keypad editor.

The list of parameters that can be determined for proportional valves is extensive, comprehensive, and requires minimal user intervention, making Automation Studio more user friendly when dealing with complex systems. By opening the valve properties dialog box, users can determine the flow characteristics for each spool position. Also, using the curve editor, they can easily set the spool position vs. signal function as well as the profile of the flow characteristic.
All control loops can use signals coming from the provided sensors or from external controllers provided by an OPC server or an OPC compatible CANBus server (See OPC library for details). The signals are all configured by variables and offer full flexibility to the designer.
Furthermore input signals can be scaled to fit a specific component requirement. Proportional valves can be controlled electrically and/or hydraulically to suit mobile and industrial applications alike.
Values measured by sensors can be used in any of the Automation Studio control libraries such as Electrical Controls, Grafcet and PLC Ladder Logic. The conversion and scaling of signals are also fully user configurable.
Steering Systems Library To complete the design of most mobile applications, the library includes all the building blocks to create steering units. These can be controlled by the provided set point generating devices.
Control Panel Devices and Connection to External Devices The library includes joyticks and steering wheels to let users modify set point values during simulation. The users can define the scale and amplitude of the set point values. It is also possible to interface a real external joystick for a more realistic interaction during simulation. To insure complete flexibility, a set point value generator is also provided to force input values during a simulation scenario.

FLUID POWER COMPONENT SIZING MODULE Automation Studio’s component sizing module offers a quick and user friendly access to pneumatic and hydraulic component parameter calculations. Calculation sheets are provided for cylinders, pumps, flow controls, tubing and piping, motors, accumulators, fittings, compressors, valves and relief valves.
Quick Access to Equations and Definitions At any time, the user can have quick access to the applicable equations and parameters definitions. Hence Automation Studio becomes an online reference, saving time in researching from data books or deriving equations. The unit systems can be defined, and results shown in any unit system the user wishes, making conversion quick and easy, especially when entering component data retrieved from various catalogs.
A Multidirectional Approach As opposed to traditional means of solving equations where users have to select an entry point, Automation Studio’s calculation worksheets allow parameter modification from any point. There is no need to proceed in a predetermined step by step approach. This in itself is consistent with Automation Studio’s care in innovation and increased productivity.
From Component to System with Simulation After quickly sizing each component, it becomes easy to establish the overall requirements of a system by running a simulation and establishing operation sequences. SEQUENTIAL FUNCTION CHART ... A Structured Approach and a Powerful Tool Although the interface is simple, there is more depth to this module than meets the eye. During the creation of SFCs, you can access all the internal status variables and SFC control elements to implement fault management. SFCs can also be “Forced” or “Frozen” during the simulation. Sequence and step execution intervals can also be defined to increase fault management. A higher hierarchy level can be exploited by defining macro steps from which entire control structures can be used.
Make Reusable Control Structure Templates With Automation Studio, you can create SFCs and save them as templates. This helps generate libraries of reusable logic structures that are often found in projects, and it also helps implement more rigorous rules in managing large projects.

Grafcet Code Export Module Automation Studio can import Grafcet code either in XML format or generated by the Cadepa TM software.
