2) The hero’s first sorrow. Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s first sorrow was the death of her sister, Concha, whom he dearly loved. Concha died at the age of three (3) due to sickness, while Jose Rizal was four (4) years old. At that early age, he felt the pain of losing someone that mean so much to your heart. 3) The Martyrdom of GomBurZa. The martyrdom of these three innocent Filipino priests has truly inspired an 11year old Jose Rizal to redeem his oppressed fellowmen from the harsh tyrannical Spanish rule. If this had not happened, maybe, as Rizal had written, he might be a Jesuit and not writing Noli MeTangere or El Filibusterismo. This 1872 event awakened the child imagination of Rizal to those injustices and cruelties at that time.# This turning-out event in Philippine History had opened up the minds of many Filipinos not only Rizal. It was a great injustice and sin to execute three innocent people without proper trial, accusing them of a failed mutiny in which they did not started; and to think, they are priests. 4) Education of Rizal. He had his early education in Calamba and Biñan where he was being taught in reading, writing, arithmetic and religion. He was the best student in the school and he ended his schooling there before the Christmas season in 1870. Four (4) months after the martyrdom of GomBurZa, he studied in Ateneo municipal which started on June 10, 1972. He studied there for four years, obtaining highest grades in all subjects, thus, he graduated with highest honors in 1877. He studied at the University of Santo Tomas from 1887 to 1882. In the first year, he studied Philosophy and Letters before pursuing medicine. At the same time, he studied and finished Surveying course in ateneo. At the end, he failed to receive highest honors because of unfriendly professors and the hostile atmosphere in the university. However, his grades were still good comparable to other students. After finishing his medical studies, he decided to study in Spain. He completed his medical course and was conferred the degree of Licentiate in Medicine by the University Central de Madrid. Although he was able to passed all the subjects required to the degree of Doctor of Medicine, he was not awarded the Doctor’s Diploma because he did not present the thesis required nor paid the corresponding fees. •
