hri Y. Krishna. Rao was born on 21 st
March 1943. He died at the age of 65 on 14th Jan 2008 with nearly 43 years of rich experience in astrology. He worked as a school teacher all his life & never married dedicating his entire life for astrology researchers. He was a student of ‘Sri Vemuri Rama Murthy’ since 1975 who was a great Jaimini Siddhanti in India. Sri Krishna Rao practiced parasaryam (Nirayana System), Western Astrology (Sayana-System), numerology & palmistry. He was also selected as a Lecturer to teach Astrology to M.A (Astrology) students in Telugu University, Hyderabad. He will always remain special to the ‘Saptarishis Astrology’ as he had just finished checking the draft of his article published in SA Vol 1 and after which he expired in an hour.
any sages of yore have contributed to the growth and spread of the wonderful science of Astrology among whom the great Parasara Parasara stands as as a colossus, colossus, as the father of Indian Astrology who flourished more than 5000 years ago. The Siddhanta propounded by him has come to be known as Parasareeyam which has been studied by all his successors— including sage Jaimini, who by his own genius propounded another unique system popularly known as Jaimini Astrology. Of these two systems Parasareeyam has stood the test of time and is widely practiced. Of late some of the Western astrologers too have been evincing keen interest in studying Indian Astrology. In this article I shall endeavor to elucidate a novel approach to the Vimshottari Dasa System in the light of my experience. Novice that I am in Astrology, I wonder whether I would be doing justice to Indian astrology by originating a new method of using the Vimshottari Dasa System.
Parasara advocated various Dasa systems for the purpose of timing events and the Vimshottari has stood the test of time. Eminent astrologers like late Prof. B. Suryanarain Rao, Dr. B.V.Raman and others have been successful in using the Vimshottari Dasa System by making remarkable predictions on both individual and national horoscopes. If there is no truth in the Vimshottari, it would not have been practiced by so many astrologers. After all the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The word Udu in the Sanskrit language means constellation or nakshatra. There are 27 constellations in the zodiac starting from Aswini and ending with Revati which falls in the last sign of the Zodiac, namely Pisces. The Sun transits a sign for nearly 1 month whereas the Moon transits a sign for approximately 2½ days, the Moon being a fast-moving planet. The Moon traverses each constellation for a day, approximately at the speed of 12° to 15°. The ruler of the constellation in which the Moon is placed in a nativity rules the major period at birth. In Jaimini Astrology there is an obscure Dasa System known as Chandramsaka Dasa which is to be found in Jyotisha Phala Ratnamala written by Krishna Misra who flourished during the time of King Vikramaditya. Based on Chandramsaka Dasa, I have evolved this new system. Instead of taking the whole constellation, I have taken the ruler of the Navamsa (in which the Moon is placed) as the determining factor to calculate the balance of Dasa at birth and obtained strikingly accurate results . For instance if the Moon is placed in Pisces or Sagittarius Navamsa, then the starting Dasa at the time of birth or of any epoch would be that of Jupiter. Similarly if the Moon is in Leo Navamsa, then the starting Dasa at the time of birth would be that of the Sun. My idea in developing this new system is not to belittle the time-honored Udu Dasa System but to add a feather to the cap and I would request the learned readers to try this system also and publish their findings in THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE. With due regards to the masters in Astrology, I have slightly departed from the accepted canons in the Vimshottari and I shall consider that my labours will have been amply rewarded if only savants like Dr. B V. Raman would try this system also in promoting the science. I shall now judge a few horoscopes according to this system. The horoscopes given in this article are calculated according to the Ayan-amsa of N. C. Lahiri, and only in the case of the Moon a reduction of 10' to 15' approximately has been effected . The native - of Chart No. 1 was born in Uttara Nakshatra at the fag end of the 2nd quarter. The Moon is In Capricorn in Navamsa ruled by Saturn. So the starting Dasa would be that of Saturn as he is the ruler of the Navamsa in which the Moon is placed. The balance of Dasa calculation would be as follows: An arc of 3° 20' comprises one Navamsa.

In the sub-period of Venus during the major period of Venus the native had suffered ill-health owing to rheumatism. In the above chart we find that the lord of the Ascendant is afflicted owing to Papakartari Yoga and in Navamsa Kundali Venus is associated with Saturn and Mercury in Taurus. Budhasanidrishte nirveeryaha is an important aphorism in Jaimini Astrology. The meaning is that the native will have a sickly constitution if Karaka Navamsa is aspected by Mercury and Saturn. The literal interpretation of any aphorism either in Jaimini or in the Parasari System does not yield results. A liberal interpretation of such aphorisms is necessary for obtaining correct results. From the above aphorism it is logical to deduct that if either the lord of the Ascendant or the Moon is in conjunction with Saturn and Mercury or when they are aspected by Saturn and Mercury the health of the native would be adversely effected. In the above horoscope we find Venus the lord of the Ascendant is associated with Saturn and Mercury in Navamsa which explains his bad health during the sub-period of Venus. During the sub-period of the Moon in the major period of Venus he resigned his permanent job and remained unemployed for nearly five years and suffered much humiliation. Explanation: —Lagna lord Venus and the 10th lord the Moon are in 6/8 position while Venus is in detriment and is much afflicted owing to Papakartari Yoga. With the advent of the major period of Venus the native has experienced many reversals in his life and fortunes. During the sub-period of Rahu in the major period of Venus he performed Pitru Karma as he lost his father in 1976.
As soon as the sub-period of Jupiter (in Venus major period) commenced the native again secured an ordinary job in a private company. He is still a bachelor as the 7th house and Venus (Kalatrakaraka) are afflicted due to Papakartari Yoga. During the
sub-period of Jupiter he visited some temples in South India and had dips in holy waters. This (Chart No. 2) is the horoscope of a person who did his M. Sc. in Chemistry and left for the States (U S A) in 1978. The Moon is placed in Virgo Navamsa ruled by Mercury.

1979 7 1 It was during the major period of the Sun that he had a foreign journey. It will be seen that the Sun is the lord of the 9 th house and is placed in the 12th house from Lagna. The 9th and the 12th in a nativity signify foreign tours or long journeys. His marriage took place during the fag end of the Sun's period.

Chart No. 3 is that of a sheep born in Taurus Ascendant in Aries Navamsa. Some combinations for Viyoni Janma (birth of animals) are to be found in Brihat Jataka. The author says birth of animals generally takes place when benefic planets are powerless and when impotent planets (like Saturn and Mercury are found in kendras (angles). In this horoscope we find the impotent planets, Saturn and Mercury are posited in quadrants, aspecting the Ascendant indicating the birth of an animal. The Moon is in the constellation of Pushyami ruled by Saturn. The Moon is in Scorpio Navamsa ruled by Mars. 16° 40'—End of Scorpio Navamsa in Cancer. 15° 35'—Longitude of the Moon. 1° 05'—Balance in Scorpio Navamsa. Scorpio or Aries Navamsa ruled by Mars: 3° 20'—7 years ; 1° 40'—3 years, 6 months, 0 days ; 0° 50'—1 year, 9 months, 0 days; 0° 25' —0 year, 10 months 15 days; 0° 1 2½'— 0 year 5 months, 7 days; 0° 6¼’—0 year, 2 months, 18 days ; 0° 3'—0 year, 1 month, 9 days.
According to the above table we obtain the balance of Mars Dasa at birth as 2 years, 3
months and 16 days approximately. Mars is the lord of the 7 th and the 12th and hence a powerful maraka planet. Moreover Mars is placed in the 8th, the house of death. Ashtamom nidhanam randhram is the relevant aphorism in the present context. The meaning of this aphorism is that the 8th house in a horoscope stands for longevity as also for death.
Generally death is to be expected in the major period of a planet who owns the 2 nd, the 7th, the 8th and the 12 th houses. Any other planet who is in conjunction with one of the planets who owns the above houses is considered equally powerful as a maraka. Sometimes the lord of the Navamsa in which the 8th lord is posited becomes a powerful maraka provided he is placed either in the 2nd or the 7th, or the 8th or the 12th from the Ascendant. I have gathered from a few shepherds that goats and sheep are generally killed after 2 years approximately as they have full development of body within that period. The lord of the 8th house posited in Scorpio Navamsa, and Mars posited in the 8th house from the Ascendant speak of unnatural death either for human beings or for quadrupeds. The nature of death is to be determined from the planets posited in the 8th house, the planets which aspect the 8th house and the 8th lord. The lord of the 22 nd Drekkana also gives a clue as to the nature of death. The lord of the Drekkana, or the lord of the Navamsa in which the 8th lord is posited also give useful clues to find out one's nature of death. For instance if the lord of the 8th house is posited in Sagittarius in Navamsa in conjunction with Mars (in Navamsa) then the native is likely to meet with an accidental fall from elevated places resulting in death. Now let us take the horoscope of Nathuram Vinayak Godse. He was born on 19-51910 at 8-30 a.m. in Gemini Ascendant. The Moon in his nativity is in Virgo in the constellation of Uttara 4th quarter (the Moon 9° Virgo), in Pisces Navamsa ruled by Jupiter. The balance of Jupiter's major period at his birth would be 5 years approximately. It will be seen that he was hanged during the sub-period of Saturn in the major period of Mercury. The lord of the 8th house Saturn is posited in Gemini Navamsa (ruled by Mercury). So Mercury is equally powerful in troubling or killing the native. The native was hanged during the sub period of Saturn, ruler of the 8 th house, who is posited in Aries Drekkana, ruled by Mars, the bloody planet. He was selected as an engineer in April 1962 as soon as the sub-period of Jupiter commenced. It will be seen that Jupiter as lord of the 5 th house is posited in Aroodha Lagna involved in powerful Gajakesari Yoga. He was married during the major period of Saturn posited in the 7th house causing Sasa Yoga. During the major period of Mercury his salary shot up to Rs. 2,500/-. During the last part of Mercury's period he constructed a beautiful house. Not only the lord of the 4th house is capable of giving Gruha Yoga (owning a house) but the lord of the Navamsa in which the 4th lord is placed is also capable of giving Vahana Yoga, Gruha Yoga, etc. In this horoscope we find the 4th lord is posited in Virgo Navamsa ruled by Mercury who is exalted in Rasi Kundali. So Mercury functioned as lord of the 2 nd and the lord of the 4 th as well during his major period. He had serious sickness in 1979 during the sub-period of Saturn (Saturn is 6L). I shall illustrate one more horoscope to prove how wonderfully this new system is yielding results in practical experience. This (Chart No. 5) is the horoscope of a professor in Andhra University. He was born in Leo Ascendant, in Poorvabhadra 2nd quarter, the longitude of the Moon being 25° 25'
Aquarius. As I would prefer to deduct 10' more, then the longitude would be 25° 15' Aquarius. The Moon is posited in Taurus Navamsa ruled by Venus.

It will be seen that the Moon, being full, is posited in the 7 th house receiving the benefic aspects of Jupiter and Venus to get him married during the major period of the Moon.
There is a fertile field open for research-minded students to delve deeper into this wonderful science to find out higher truths, in the light of their experience. As I conclude this article I would request the readers to try this new system for themselves and publish their ideas, useful suggestions and the practicability of its working.
