The government of India under section 25 of the companies acts. 1956 set up artificial limbs manufacturing corporation of India (ALIMCO) in 1972. Profit is not objective. The company has social objectives. This was proposed to be done by the manufacturing artificial limbs. Components and rehabilitation aids and by promoting encouraging and developing the availability, use supply of distribution of artificial limbs components and rehabilitation aids of high quality to the needy disabled of the country at reasonable cost. The organization started manufacturing disability aids in 1976 and brought about the concept of mass manufacturing of modules limb components to reduce the time of the fabrication of prosthesis and cost of production of all verities of aids and appliances. Its main thrust is on providing better quality aids and appliances to a much larger number of disabled, a ISO 1900:2000 company is is the premier and largest manufacturer of disability Aids Aids and appliances in whole of South Asia Asia and manufactured 355 types appliance and aids for Orthopedically , and Visually and Hearing Impaired.

ALIMCO set up on 29 Novemb ovember 1972 by the government of India under section 25 of the company¶s act 1956 with objectives to benefiting the disabled person of the country to maximum possible extent. The stone of ALIMCO was laid down on Sunday: 18 Novemb ovember 1973 by late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. ALIMCO started production in1976. It is largest manufacturing organization of artificial limbs in whole South Asia. ALIMCO is manufacturing artificial limbs, components and Rehabilitation Aids and promoting encouraging and developing the availability, use supply and distribution of artificial limbs components to needy disable of the country at Reasonable cost. Profitability is not the motive of the operation corporation and its main thrust is on providing better quality aids and appliances to a much larger number of disable persons. ALIMCO is spread in a sprawling area of 43 acre; its manufacturing unit and head office are located in Kanpur. The organization started manufacturing disability aids in 1976 and brought about the concept of mass manufacturing of the modular limb component to reduce the time of fabrication and orthotic and cost of production of all verity of aids and appliances.

The main objectives of the Corporation Corpo ration are ± 1. To maintain the status of largest manufacturer and supplier of rehabilitation aids in India. 2. To maintain the status of largest ADIP implementing agency through camp activity, headquarters activity, ADIP ± SSA activity, special camp activity and limb fitting centers activity.

Achievements
Within the country, the Corporation is the pr emier agency supplying appliances for orthopedically handicapped. It has helped establish 170 Limb Fitting Centers in various parts of the country to ensure proper fitting of aids and appliances. These Limb Fitting Centers provide necessary facilities for fitment of Orthotic and Prosthetic aids to t he disabled people. The Corporation conducts camps ca mps in association with various State Govts./Distt. Authorities for fitting fitting and distributi d istribution on of aids and appliances in rural and semi urban areas of the country. The Corporation also conducts camps under ADIP-SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) Cost Sharing Scheme in association with various Stat e implementing Societies for provision provision of o f aids & appliances to children with special Needs o f 6-14 years age.

1. It is a pleasure for me to welcome you all on my own behalf and on behalf of the Board of Directors to the 36th Annual General Ge neral Meeting of your Corporati Cor poration on and to present the 36th Annual Report o f the Board of Directors of the Corporation on the operations of your Corporation together with the a udited statement of accounts and Auditors¶ Report for the year . I may proudly intimate that year remained with consecutive financial year of earning surplus and your Corporation has maintained consistency in the operations in this year also a lso despite many constraints. The overall financial performance of the Corporation for the year under report has been satisfactory. Progress towards completion of Modernization Projects has been sat isfactory. More details regarding progress made by your Corpo ration towards modernization activities have been given at appropriate place in the Directors¶ Report. OFILE : 2. CORPORATE PR OF
Your Corporation was set up in 1972 by the Government of India under Section 25 of Companies Act, 1956, with an objective of benefiting the disabled persons to t he maximum extent possible. This was proposed to be done by manufacturing rehabilitation aids for persons with disabilities and by promoting, encouraging and developing the availability, use, supply supp ly and distribution of artificial limbs and other rehabilitation aids aids to the disabled disabled persons of the country. Profitability Profitability is not the motive motive of the operations of the Corporation Corpo ration and its main thrust is on providing better quality aids & appliances to a much larger number of disabled persons.
Main obj objectives ectives of the Corporation are :
a. To promote, encourage and develop the availability, use, supply and distribution at reasonable cost in the co untry of Artificial Limbs & Accessories and constituents thereof to needy persons particularly disabled de fence personnel, hospitals and such other o ther welfare institutions. b. To establish facilities for the manufacture of Artificial Limbs & Accessories and constituents thereof and all other things which ca n be or may conveniently conve niently be used for the manufacture of o f or in connection with such articles, things, as aforesaid.
c. To carry on the t he business of manufacturers, buyers, sellers, importers, exporters, dealers in and of artificial limbs and accessor ies and constituents thereof and all
other things which can be or may conveniently be used for the manufacture of or in connection with such articles, things, th ings, as aforesaid.

3. CAPIT APITAL STR UCTUR E : The authorized capital and paid up capital of the Corporation as on 31st March 2009 were Rs.300.00 lakh and Rs.196.50 lakh respectively. respectively. The entire paid up share capital capital of your Corporation is held by Government of o f India in the name of the President Pres ident of India.
4. FINANCIAL AND PHYSIC PHYSICAL PE PER FORMA NCIAL AN FORMANCE NCE : During the year 2008-09, ALIMCO has achieved a turnover of Rs. 59.12 crores with a sale of Rs. 52.42 crores. The surplus of Rs. 4.26 crores has been earned by the t he Corporation during the year which will be p loughed back into Corporation¶s working. working.

7. EXP EXPOR T EFFOR EFFOR TS : The Corporation has exported its products to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, UAE, Angola, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Tanzania, Nepal, Israel etc. in the past. We did receive enquiries enquiries from NGOs from Sri Lanka, however, due to global recession, these enquiries did not shape into confirmed orders. We have exported our products to Nepal in the year 2008-2009 for a total value of Rs.00.67 lakhs.
8. ADIP CAMPS : The Corporation has covered total tot al number of 24,663 beneficiaries in the financial year 2008-2009 under ADIP scheme through 149 Nos. of camps covering the States of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Mahrashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West West Bengal and Rajasthan. Rajasthan. Out of 149 Nos. of camps, 15 camps ca mps were held in the North Eastern States St ates covering 3,412 beneficiaries. Similarly under the ADIPSSA scheme, 716 camps were organized and 55,932 children with special needs in the age group of 06-14 years were served. served. In total, ALIMCO ALIMCO organized 865 camps camps and covered 80,595 beneficiaries under the ADIP as well as SSA-ADIP scheme in 2008-2009 as against 67,326 number of beneficiaries covered in the year 2007-2008 through 701 number of camps.
9. BILATERAL ACTIVITIES : Corporation has cleared and handled 13,776 MT of relief cargo imported under IndoUS/UK/Sweden/Swiss/Germany Bilateral Agreement during the year 2008-2009 as against 21,675 MT cargo cleared and handled during the year 2007-2008.

PER FORMA FORMANCE NCE OF ALIMCO ALIMCO AUXILIARY PR ODUCTI CTION CENTR CENTR ES (AAPC (AAPCS) : (i) ALIMCO ALIMCO Aux Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC (AAPC), Bangalore : AAPC, Bangalore has produced Wheel Chairs & Tricycles to the tune of Rs.124 lakhs and made a sale of Rs.321 lakhs during the year 2008-09. AAPC, Bangalore, has organized camps ca mps in 16 districts of Karnataka and 07 d istricts istricts in Tamil Nadu under ADIP-SSA cost sharing sharing plan during the year 2008-09. An order for Rs.24 lakhs has also been bagged by the Centre from Andhra Pradesh during dur ing the year. AAPC, Bangalore, had participated in an exhibition at Chennai which was inaugurated by the Commissioner Commissioner for the Disabled, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and has also conducted a special ADIP camp at Erode, Tamil Nadu, which was inaugurated by the Hon¶ble Minister of State for Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
(ii) ALIMCO ALIMCO Aux Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC (AAPC), Bhu hub baneshwar : During the year 2008-09, a total number of 8,003 Tricycles and 2,725 2, 725 Wheel chairs have rolled out AAPC, Bhubaneshwr, leading to total production of Rs.497.41 lakhs and sales turnover of Rs.682.03 lakhs lakhs approximately. The Centre operates a Modern Limb Fitting Centre also and provides Prosthesis Pro sthesis & Orthosis Orthosis to the needy PwDs P wDs under ADIP scheme as well as against payment. 931 Nos. of beneficiaries beneficiaries were provided Aids & Appliances Appliances during the year 2008-09. In addition to above, AAPC, Bhubaneshwar, has organized 80 Nos. of distribution camps in 16 districts of Orissa in collaboration with State Government under ADIP-SSA scheme and provided Aids & Appliances to 3571 children in the age group of 06-14 years. AAPC, Bhubaneshwar, has also secured orders for for Multi Utility Utility Tricycles from W&CD W&CD Department, Government of Orissa, during the year 2008-2009.
(iii) ALIMCO ALIM CO Aux Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC (AAPC), Jabalpur : AAPC, Jabalpur, has produced 5670 Nos. of tricycles and 2,825 No s. of Wheel Chairs
with the production value of Rs.409.59 lakhs during the year 2008-09. The sales turnover during the above year was Rs.471.72 lakhs. AAPC, Jabalpur, also operates a Modern Mo dern Limb Fitting Centre and provides Prosthesis Pro sthesis and Orthosis to the needy needy PwDs under ADIP scheme as well as against payment. 114 Nos. of beneficiaries were provided Prosthesis & Orthosis and Rehabilitation Aids by the Limb Fitting Centre during the year 2008-09. In addition to above, AAPC, Jabalpur, has organized 43 camps in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh against ADIP ± SSA scheme and provided Prosthesis Pro sthesis & Orthosis Orthosis and Rehabilitation Aids to 5678 Nos.of disabled children. 254 Nos. PwDs were provided Aids & Appliances in Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh) dur ing the year. (iv)

The civil construction work at AAPC, Chanalon, has been completed under the supervision of M/s. Telecommunications Consultants of India Ltd., A Government o f India Enterprises, Enterprises, New Delhi. Machines have also been been procured, installed installed and commissioned.

(a) Development of Active Prosthetic Leg
:
This is an electronic Leg aimed at performance close to natural leg utilizing sensors, gauge micro-processors and is being developed in co llaboration with Indian Institute of Informati Technology, Allahabad. Few prototypes have been developed and provided one each to N Institute for Orthopedically Handicapped; Kolkata, Swami Vivekananda National Institut Rehabilitation Training and Research; Cuttack, Institute for the Physically Handicapped, Delhi, and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, which are under test an by them.
(b) Plastic Moulded Foot Rest for Wheel Chair (T (TD 2 C 51) : To reduce the weight o f Wheel Chair, plastic moulded Foot Rest for Wheel Chair (TD 2 C 51) has been developed and implemented.
(c) Twin Side Hand Propelled Tricycle (C (Child Size) (T (TD 2 C91) : The Tricycle is smaller in size and is having provision provision of o f propelling by both the hands as in case of Tricycle Adult Size being manufactured by the Corporation. The product is being developed developed to suit/cater the needs of the disabled children of the lower lower age group. The product has been been developed and is under extensive field trial.
(d) Wheel Chair (T (TD 2 C 57) with detachab detachable Arm Rest & Foot Rest (Ad Size-II) :
The Wheel Chair is having provisi pro vision on of o f detachable Arm rest and Foot Rest thereby render better accessibility accessibility to the work table/computer table for the disabled disabled individual using this Chair. The detachable Arm Rest also makes makes it convenient for for transfer of the user to bed bed e vice versa. A prototype of the above above Wheel Chair has been developed which is under trial trial

14. ISI MARKIN MARKING ON ALIMCO ALIMCO PR ODUCTS CTS : ALIMCO has been granted Licence by BIS for IS marking on 17 Categories of Products totaling 82 products. All the Licences have been got renewed from BIS when due for renewal. The Corporation has taken up with with BIS for grant of IS marking marking licence to SACH Foot being produced by ALIMCO. Total number of employees as on 31 March 09 stood at 456 including 46 officers.The Board of Directors of your Corporation have reduced the authorized manpower from 636 to 550 during the year 2003-2004.
19. DISAB DISABLED EMPLO MPL OYEE EES S ALIMCO as a model employer especially for t he disabled, employs 38 disabled personnel out of whom 01 is visually handicapped, 03 are speech handicapped and 34 are orthopaedically handicapped which today t oday constitutes 8.52% of its total strength.

WO WORLD RLD DISAB DISABLED DAY Your Corporation celebrated ³World Disabled Day´ on 03 December 08 in recognition of contribution being made by the disabled employees in the pro gress of the Corporation. Shri S.K. Mukherjee, CMD, ALIMCO, appreciated apprec iated disabled employees for their outstanding work. Mementos were distributed distributed to 38 disabled employees employees by the Chairman & Managing Director in recognition of their the ir services to the Corporation.

OFFI OFFICIAL LAN LANGUAGE AGE (HIN (HINDI) IMPLE IMPLEMENTA ENTATION All officers and employees of the Corporation are having working knowledge of Hindi and policies of the Government are being implemented. To promote the use of Hindi, an Official Language Implementation Committee has been constituted and it is functioning smoothly. Various incentive schemes proposed by the Government of India under the Official Language Implementation Act or otherwise are in force in the Corporation.

ALIMCO ALIMCO HIN HINDI PAKHW PAKHWARA In order to encourage use of Hindi in day to day official o fficial working, a Hindi Fortnight was organized in the Corporation Corporation from 15 Sep 08 to 29 Sep 08. Different types types of competitions in Hindi and workshop were organized during Hindi Fortnight and prizes were awarded to winners by the Chairman & Managing Director on the occasion of conclusion of Hindi Fortnight.

VIGILANCE VIGILANCE ACTIVI CTIVIT TIES The Corporation has proper vigilance machinery headed by the Chief Vigilance Officer to ensure transparency and accountabili accounta bility ty in its functioning besides promoting a culture of honesty among its its employees. Some of the major activities activities undertaken by the Corporation in respect of vigilance are as under u nder : a. Transparent Open Tender Procedure Pro cedure with publication in news papers as well as website of ALIMCO including opening of o f tender in the presence of renderers. b. Surprise and routine checks in the departments dep artments identified as sensitive. c. The security set up at Headquarters as well as its ancillary units has been established appropriately. d. Regular security checks are carried out at strategic places like Main Gate, APOC, Warehouse, canteen and other o ther important installations. 28. Vigilance Awareness Week was organized in the Corporation from 03 ± 07 Nov 08 which received encouraging response from all the employees. All the employees employees took a pledge to strive continuously in order to bring about integrity and transparency in all spheres of the activities and work for eradication of corruption in all spheres of life. Debate competition and seminar were organized o rganized during the vigilance awareness week and winners of the debate competition were awarded.

CONS CONSERVAT RVATION OF ENERGY ENERGY TECH TECHNOL NOLOGY AB ABSORPT RPTION AND FOR FOR EIGN IGN EXCHA EXCHAN NGE EAR NINGS AN AND OUTGO : Proper utilization and power factor viz. 0. 85 to 0.90 was maintained maintained during dur ing the year which resulted in optimal utilization at minimum minimum energy consumption level. Cost of energy per unit of production production value in the year 2008-09 was 0.017 Paise. As required by the Companies (Disclosure of Particulars in the Report of Board of Directors) Rules 1988, the relevant data pertaining to conservation of energy, technology absorption and foreign exchange earnings and outgo o utgo are given in Annexure ± 2, forming part of this report.

Considering the load pattern and equipment in use during the year we e mphasized a proper utilization and a power factor between 0.85 to 0.90. This has resulted resulted in optimal utilization at minimum minimum energy consumption level.
(ii) Additional investment and proposals, If any, being implemented for reduction of consumption of energy : Considering the initial investment on energy consideration measures in comparison to very low gain, we plan to concentrate on most effective use of the available energy only. (iii)

Conclusion Since 1972 ALIMCO has been Supported / controlled / directed & facilities by central government. The main objective o f its installation installation was to fulfill fulfill the fierce requirement of o f disable person of India as well as rest o f the nation , as its NGO Corporation. Therefore, it has to distributed its product as the No Profit and No Loss Point.
The major sources of funds funds gatherization of ALIMCO is grants grants provided by the central government as well as state government. Since 1972 to 1990 the sequence of the grant receiving was uncerta in in quantity & timing as well. But in the pro vision vision of o f 1990 grant was fixed in quantity qua ntity & timing also.
So , main main emphasis of ALIMCO should be producing more & more product . Every schedule in which it is to be allocated should be well defined & ha ving the clarity of its Goals. On saying so I would like to finish my Project Report.
