The opening notes ("Four Notes") of the Star Trek theme, written by Alexander Courage, comes from: Gustav Mahler’ Symphony No.1 written in 1888, which was taken from Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No.2 written in 1877, which was taken from Ludwig Van Beethoven’s opening of Symphony No.4 written in 1806. Following the "Four Notes" the following fanfare (beginning with the doo de'doooo) comes from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7, first movement
