Introduction The QST30 is a 12-cylinder engine with 30-liter displacement designed for use in the Power Generation market. The QST30 initially will cover power ranges of 750-900 kWe @ 60 Hz (1135-1340 BHP @ 1800 RPM) and 625-800 kWe @ 50 Hz (940-1030 BHP @ 1500 RPM). The 30L engine will be manufactured by Cummins Komatsu Engine Company (CKEC). CKEC is a joint venture for engineering and manufacturing engines for both Cummins and Komatsu with Cummins being the managing partner. The 30L engine evolved from a Komatsu base engine design and has been greatly enhanced through the use of Cummins’ expertise in diesel engine technology (electronics, air handling, combustion, filtration, and manufacturing). Originally, the 30L was designed for use in construction equipment (dozers, end loaders, etc.) which allowed Cummins to build on an existing, proven platform. Primary markets for the 30L will be Power Generation and Industrial. While the 30L engine is based on a Komatsu 12-cylinder design, significant changes are being introduced by Cummins. Some of the changes being introduced are: Bosch fuel system; Holset turbochargers and dampers; Fleetguard filters (same as K38/50); Cummins designed and developed electronic controls; and many internal changes to increase base engine output capability and durability. Over 90% of the engine is being resourced within Cummins qualified supply base to provide a low cost, high quality product for Cummins customers. Cummins worldwide distribution network for parts, service support and information systems are implementing a global strategy for QST30 product support in conjunction with the Cummins Area Business Organizations (ABOs). The QST30 engine will be introduced with compatibility to the new electronic service tools, diagnostics and information systems. Compatibility with these tools and systems will enable the worldwide Cummins support network to provide excellent after-sale customer care. Competitive Engines The 30L engine envelope is approximately the same as the Cummins V28. This compact package provides excellent installation fit when replacing a V28 or larger K38 engine. It is also an advantage when replacing installations of CAT 3412, 3508 and DDC 12V92, 16V92 and 8V149 engines. The attractive package size of the 30L will continue to benefit Cummins over future product releases of the DDC 2000 Series engine planned for mid-1996 production launch. The 30L engine will compete directly with the 12- and 16-cylinder 2000 Series product offerings. Engine comparisons of the 30L engine versus other Cummins products and competitive engines are shown below. The tables also include performance information regarding power levels, brake specific fuel consumption and brake specific heat rejection. Product Specification Language The 30L engine will be released in '03' language. Cummins has traditionally structured the configuration level of the product in option language which is known as '02' language. The '03' structuring technique for this level of the product is called Engineering Bills of Material (EBMs). In order to distinguish which products use EBMs, an ID Code of 27 was introduced and a suffix of -03 appears at the end of the configuration number (-02 language uses an ID Code of 24 with an -02 suffix). The '03' language will more clearly relate mounting and plumbing items to the item being mounted and plumbed and is easier to find and interpret. The 30L engine will use 5000 series engine EBM (option) numbers (e.g. LF 5052). The V28 engine options are also 5000 series options but are NOT applicable to the 30L engine. Since the 30L is in '03' language, the option ID Code will be 27 (the V28 options are ID Code 24 or '02' language). V28 options can NOT be specified for a 30L engine; however, if a customer wants an option equivalent to an existing V28 offering, a new 30L option may need to be developed and released. Check your sales handbook and/or IMS data base since many comparable options have already been defined for the 30L. The CSL (Customer Specification Language) data base will be used for all 30L engine specifications. Product Identifier and Pricing Configuration numbers required for CSL have been set up. The initial engine options and pricing will be loaded into CSL as quickly as the options are defined in the Cummins system. Standard Pricing Configuration specifications are available in CSL. CSL specifications are loaded in the system with continual addition of options and configuration numbers as they are released.

Pricing Specifications Add/Delete notation under the Pricing Configuration specifies the ability to use the same Pricing Configuration for both Standby and Prime Power rating requests by adding and deleting the proper FR option from the configuration. • • PRELIMINARY • • POWER RATING APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR GENERATOR DRIVE ENGINES These guidelines have been formulated to ensure proper application of generator drive engines in A.C. generator set installations. Generator drive engines are not designed for and shall not be used in variable speed D.C. generator set applications. STANDBY POWER RATING is applicable for supplying emergency power for the duration of the utility power outage. No overload capability is available for this rating. Under no condition is an engine allowed to operate in parallel with the public utility at the Standby Power rating. This rating should be applied where reliable utility power is available. A standby rated engine should be sized for a maximum of an 80% average load factor and 200 hours of operation per year. This includes less than 25 hours per year at the Standby Power rating. Standby ratings should never be applied except in true emergency power outages. Negotiated power outages contracted with a utility company are not considered an emergency.

PRIME POWER RATING is applicable for supplying electric power in lieu of commercially purchased power. Prime Power applications must be in the form of one of the following two categories: UNLIMITED TIME RUNNING PRIME POWER Prime Power is available for an unlimited number of hours per year in a variable load application. Variable load should not exceed a 70% average of the Prime Power rating during any operating period of 250 hours. The total operating time at 100% Prime Power shall not exceed 500 hours per year. A 10% overload capability is available for a period of 1 hour within a 12 hour period of operation. Total operating time at the 10% overload power shall not exceed 25 hours per year. LIMITED TIME RUNNING PRIME POWER

CONTINUOUS POWER RATING is applicable for supplying utility power at a constant 100% load for an unlimited number of hours per year. No overload capability is available for this rating.

Prime Power is available for a limited number of hours in a non-variable load application. It is intended for use in situations where power outages are contracted, such as in utility power curtailment. Engines may be operated in parallel to the public utility up to 750 hours per year at power levels never to exceed the Prime Power rating. The customer should be aware, however, that the life of any engine will be reduced by this constant high load operation. Any operation exceeding 750 hours per year at the Prime Power rating should use the Continuous Power rating.

Reference Standards: BS-5514 and DIN-6271 standards are based on ISO-3046.

Operation At Elevated Temperature And Altitude: The engine may be operated at: 1800 RPM up to 5000 ft. (1524 m) and 95 °F (35 °C) without power deration. 1500 RPM up to 5000 ft. (1524 m) and 95 °F (35 °C) without power deration. Note: For altitudes less than 1000 ft (305 m), the engine may be operated at 1500 RPM and 1800 RPM up to 125 °F (52 °C) without power deration. For sustained operation above these conditions, derate by 4% per 1,000 ft. (300 m), and 1% per 10 °F (2% per 11°C).

PRELIMINARY POWER RATING APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR GENERATOR DRIVE ENGINES These guidelines have been formulated to ensure proper application of generator drive engines in A.C. generator set installations. Generator drive engines are not designed for and shall not be used in variable speed D.C. generator set applications. STANDBY POWER RATING is applicable for supplying emergency power for the duration of the utility power outage. No overload capability is available for this rating. Under no condition is an engine allowed to operate in parallel with the public utility at the Standby Power rating. This rating should be applied where reliable utility power is available. A standby rated engine should be sized for a maximum of an 80% average load factor and 200 hours of operation per year. This includes less than 25 hours per year at the Standby Power rating. Standby ratings should never be applied except in true emergency power outages. Negotiated power outages contracted with a utility company are not considered an emergency.

PRIME POWER RATING is applicable for supplying electric power in lieu of commercially purchased power. Prime Power applications must be in the form of one of the following two categories: UNLIMITED TIME RUNNING PRIME POWER

Prime Power is available for an unlimited number of hours per year in a variable load application. Variable load should not exceed a 70% average of the Prime Power rating during any operating period of 250 hours. The total operating time at 100% Prime Power shall not exceed 500 hours per year. A 10% overload capability is available for a period of 1 hour within a 12 hour period of operation. Total operating time at the 10% overload power shall not exceed 25 hours per year LIMITED TIME RUNNING PRIME POWER


Prime Power is available for a limited number of hours in a non-variable load application. It is intended for use in situations where power outages are contracted, such as in utility power curtailment. Electric Grid Heater Electric grid heaters will be offered as a General AH option (AH 5001) which uses the QST30-G 24 VDC power supply. It is important to note that ether injection cannot be used with the grid heater system; ether detonation can occur inside the engine’s intake system causing structural damage. The grid heater system has performed well in the field with reliable starting down to -23°C (-9°F). Additional cold weather aids (coolant heaters, oil immersion heaters, etc.) and cold weather operation installation guidelines are available and applicable.

Fuel System Design Considerations The Quantum 30 Generator Drive fuel system is a dual pump arrangement utilizing two Bosch P8500 in-line fuel injection pumps (one for each bank) with integral RE30 actuators controlled by the Quantum 30 Generator Drive Electronic Control Module (ECM). Through a dual system, Cummins provides a single point fuel supply and drain connection location on the left side of the engine (see installation drawing). The fuel block is provided in the DL 5006 option. The fuel supply connection is a 1-1/16-12 (37 degree flare) and the fuel return is a 7/8-14 (37 degree flare). A right side fuel service block is planned for the future. Unlike the EFC fuel system, the Bosch P8500 pump provides more of a constant flow (between minimum and maximum fueling). You should note on the engine data sheets that Maximum Fuel Return Flow occurs at minimum load and is about 378 liter/hr (100 gpm) for all G1, G2 and G3 engine models. Electromagnetic Compatibility - The QST30 fuel system and controls have been tested and are in compliance with C.E. certification per the EMC directive. Fuel Temperature Rise - The Bosch P8500 fuel system has two return flows “T’ed” on the engine block and returned to the single point fuel block. In addition to the injector return flow, each pump has a pump bypass “overflow” return that bypasses the injectors. The Bosch design specification for fuel temperature across the pump is 25°C (45°F). The G3 engine has demonstrated the highest temperature rise at 24.4°C (44°F). The G1's typical temperature rise is 13.3°C (24°F). Maximum Fuel Inlet Temperature - The QST30’s Bosch in-line fuel system has an absolute Fuel Inlet Temperature Limit of 65°C (150°F) for the system to ensure durability. With the Bosch limitation of 25°C (45°F) rise across the pump, 65°C (150°F) places the system near the Bosch limit. Unlike the high flow, low pressure, EFC fuel system, a Recommended Maximum Fuel Inlet Temperature of 43°C (110°F) will help ensure no power loss due to high fuel inlet temperatures. Fuel temperatures above this limit may result in the engine not producing full power. Additional testing later in 1996 will determine whether this number can be revised. Prefilter Requirements - Since the injection fuel filtration system is after the individual fuel lift pumps, lift pump protection from fuel tank debris and sediment must be provided. Therefore, a prefilter or sediment bowl with a 100-120 mesh element providing 140 micron filtration must be provided. Cummins is in the process of releasing three prefilter options that meet the above specifications for filtration. One option will be the current Bosch sediment bowls that are mounted on each fuel pump. The other two options will be kitted (for customer mounting and plumbing) and will contain the filter head with 120 mesh, 140 micron hydraulic filters, one with a water separator bowl and one without.

Customer features and interfaces are obtained through Connector B of the ECM. Each engine will be shipped with an engine harness with an in-line connector to a 5 ft. ECM adaptor harness that contains Connector A to the ECM. It is the customer's responsibility to supply the engine Start and Crank circuits, interfaced with the B Connector Run Signal Circuit. Also, every engine is shipped with a kitted ECM that contains the B Connector for customer usage. It is currently the customer's responsibility to build a harness, utilizing Connector B, that interfaces with the customer features. Mounting Unlike the QSK19 CM500 controller, the Quantum 30 generator drive controller is not warranted if mounted directly to the engine block or other engine mounted hardware. It is not rated nor certified for engine temperatures and vibration signatures. The customer is, however, allowed to mount the ECM as he has done in the past with the EFC governor modules (generator, panel, base rail mounted or bracket mounted with proper vibration isolation at required points on the set).

Isochronous/Droop Speed Governing Selection with service tool. Speed droop is set up with service tool and has a range of 0-10%. Isochronous Governing is obtained with “0” Droop selected.

Run/Stop Switch Customer supplied switch. The Run Signal input supplies Battery Positive (B+), via the switch, to pin-24. B+ supplied to pin-24 powers up the ECM.

One ramp takes effect between crank and rated speed. The second ramp selects acceleration between idle and rated speed when utilizing Idle/Rated switching feature. These two ramp functions are independent of each other for customer flexibility.

Barber-Colman & Woodward Speed Bias Inputs Provides for integration with “off-the-shelf” Barber-Colman and Woodward Load Sharing, Auto-synchronizing, Load Commander, etc., Digital and Analog Hardware. NOTE: Both Caterpillar and Detroit require specially designed and built, lower volume Woodward and BarberColman paralleling and load sharing hardware to integrate with their new governor controls. Engine Run/ECM Time Accessible via the service tool, the ECM records engine Run Time in Hours:Minutes:Seconds that the engine has been running (RPM 0). The ECM also records the amount of time in Hours:Minutes:Seconds the ECM has been powered up (Run mode or Diagnostic mode).

Governor Gain Adjust Accessible via the service tool, this feature allows the governor gain to be adjusted for optimum performance. The gain is adjusted at rated speed. The idle speed gain is automatically calculated from the rated speed gain.

Customer Setup Files With the service tool, the customer can create a parameter setup file that presets adjustable parameters to desired values. Running the file, instead of adjusting each parameter individually, can save time and avoid errors. A file for each customer, or customers with equal calibrations, simplifies initial setups and/or tests.

Engine Shutdowns Engine shuts down on Low Oil Pressure (LOP) at 35 psi at rated speed and 10 psi at idle speed. Engine shuts down on High Coolant Temperature (HCT) at 215°F. Engine shuts down on Engine Overspeed (OS) at a maximum of 2070 RPM. The OS shutdown is adjustable via the service tool between 800-2070 RPM. Engine shuts down on Loss of Engine Speed/Speed indication at 50 RPM.

Fault Codes Besides Alarm and Warning output features, the ECM stores selected Fault Codes accessible to the service tool (see Fault Code list in the service tool section). When the Fault Code is recorded in the ECM, input and output data from all sensors and switches is also recorded (Snapshot Data). Snapshot data allows the relationships between ECM inputs and outputs to be viewed and used during troubleshooting.

Alarm/Warning Reset Customer supplied switch. Resets all Alarm/Warning functions and inactive Fault Codes by grounding pin-1 via the switch. Warning relay drivers, relay contacts and inactive Fault Codes can be reset while the engine is running or shut down. Alarm shutdown relay drivers and contacts can be reset when the engine is shut down. To restart the engine on an alarm shut down, the Run/Stop switch must be cycled to Off.

Meter Drivers Drivers for Coolant Temperature, Engine Speed and Engine Oil Pressure are provided for meters rated at 0-1mA input. Via the service tool, these meters can be calibrated and tested for accuracy.

Relay Drivers Relay drivers rated at 200 mA maximum at 24 VDC can drive customer supplied Alarm LEDs, horns or other relays for HCT, LOP and engine OS alarms/shutdown, pre-HCT and pre-LOP warnings. Pre-HCT warning is set via the service tool and adjustable between 0 and 255°F. Pre-LOP warning is set via the service tool and adjustable between 0 and 100 psi. The OS shutdown is adjustable via the service tool between 800-2070 RPM.

Common Alarm/Warning Relay Contacts Any alarm function will close a set of normally open (NO) contacts rated for 2A at 30 VDC. Any pre-alarm (warning) will close a set of normally open (NO) contacts rated for 2A at 30 VDC.
