Sirius ACT / ID key-operated switch
Failsafe access rights with RFID
To set up industrial plants, a service technician needs more authorizations than a nonskilled worker. The new RFID-based key-operated switch from the Sirius ACT commanding and signaling device portfolio uses modern wireless technology to query access rights without interference.
E
veryone has experienced this situation at the supermarket at one point: if an item is entered incorrectly, the manager has to come with the appropriate key and clear the register before the cashier can continue. In the case of industrial plants, the necessary authorizations for activating functions are more numerous and often security– related. Siemens has developed a key switch that for the first time is based on a wireless link with radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. The new ID key-operated switches expand the Sirius ACT commanding and signaling devices portfolio.
Unique identification The ID key-operated switches are used in place of conventional switches in production facilities to allocate different authorizations for switching the plant to different users. Every involved employee needs his or her own special authorizations. For example, certain production equipment may be switched on only by the shopfloor manager at the beginning of the shift, and this person also has all other authorizations. Only the service technician is allowed to set up the
basic plant functions, while a nonskilled worker is allowed to operate the plant only in the simplest mode. For this reason, every ID key has a unique number, so that every key, and thus the person using it, can be clearly identified. High reliability thanks to sophisticated technology Dirt or water can get into mechanical key-operated switches and destroy the electronics located behind the switch. In the case of the ID key-operated switch, the switch and the key are not coupled mechanically but are linked via a wireless connection. The key has a type of built-in label, called a tag, that is read by the transmitter unit of the switch. Both the key and the switch are plastic–coated and do not come into contact at the wireless interface, so the electronics located inside the switch are protected against external influences. An additional advantage over conventional keys is that the authorization levels of a key can be modified remotely. For example, if a key (tag) is lost, it can simply be blocked, or access can be restricted to specific time periods during the day. siemens.com/sirius-act

Whether switching, protecting, starting, or monitoring, the Sirius modular system offers a coordinated portfolio of industrial controls that can easily be installed in control cabinets and integrated into distributed systems.
AS-i SlimLine compact modules
Compact and quickly wired The AS-Interface (AS-i) field bus is the ideal solution for application areas such as machine tool building and conveyor technology. AS-i can collect wide-ranging signals from sensors and actuators in field networks and transmit them to the control level. The new AS-i SlimLine compact modules for use in control cabinets replace the previous S22.5 and S45 SlimLine modules. The series of new compact modules includes both digital I/O modules and ASI-safe modules with safe inputs. The innovation is available in the new 4DI/4DO models with a width of only 22.5 mm and as 4DI and 2F-DI models with a width of 17.5 mm. This makes them the smallest AS-i modules in the world, needing very little space in the control cabinet or in distributed control boxes. The sensors and actuators, as well as the AS-i bus cable, are connected via removable, spring-loaded connections that are either screwed in or pushed in. Thanks to the optionally available device connector, several modules can easily be connected to pass the signal from the AS-i bus cable and the current provided by the Uaux DC 24-V power supply from one module to another. This reduces wiring effort and enables fast and error-proof assembly, saving time, material, and money. In addition, all devices have a switchable sensor supply. Depending on the consumption, the power for the sensors is supplied by either the AS-i bus cable or the Uaux DC 24-V power supply. If the power is supplied by the Uaux, the wiring of the sensor connections remains unchanged. An external power supply for the sensors is therefore not necessary. All modules offer quick diagnostics on-site at the slave via LEDs on the front panel. Whether plants are being installed for the first time, serviced, modified, or expanded, the AS-i SlimLine compact modules, with their narrow casing, set new standards. siemens.com/as-interface
