Fifteen countries took part in the design and building process. The first part of the ISS was completed in 2000. The first team, an American and two Russians, went there in the same year. It was designed to have only three scientists on board. The teams live and work there for about six months, but the longest time spent there was a year. It is the largest artificial satellite in Earth’s orbit – larger than any other space station.
