Engine Overview VSV Actuator: Varies the angle of the I/L Guide Vanes and Stator Vanes to match the LP Comp stage to the HP Comp stage. This changes the angle of the airflow Across the comp blades. The VSV angle determines the compression needed For all stages of engine power. Controlled by the (EEC) and (via) fuel Pressure from the (FMU) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Booster Stage Bleed Valve: at low (LP) compressor speeds the booster provides more air than the HP Comp can utilize. The (BSBV) opens and bleeds off excess air to make the engine more stable. The air is bleed off into the fan discharge air stream. At higher (compressor) speeds the (BSBV) closes to allow all booster discharge (primary) air enters the HP Compressor. There are (2) valves (master and slave) connected together (fuel press) and are

Synchronized to move together. The (master) valve is (controlled) via the EEC. The valves close during T/O and cruise. The (slave) valve moves in relation to the (master) valve, to assist in the movement of the Ring ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The HP Comp Bleed Valves: redirects a portion of the Bleed Air to the Fan Air Stream. For Engine stability. Mounted on the outside of the case.When the (piston) valve opens it vents the air from the compressor. The 7th stage has (3) Bleed valves and the 10th stage has (1). They are used during engine starting and transient conditions. The Bleed Valves are connected (via) a tube to the Bleed Valve Solenoid ----Controlled by the Bleed Valve Solenoid Valve (Via) the EEC ----Spring Loaded Open and held open by compressor (p3) bleed air ----When the (p3) air is (vented) by the (Solenoid Valve) the Valve Closes And stops the (Bleed Air) from being released into the Fan Air Stream -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Bleed Valve (Solenoid Valve): each bleed valve has its own (sol Valve). It is connected to the bleed valve by a tube, which transmits (p3) pressure to or from the bleed valve. Controlled by the (EEC) ---When the (Solenoid) is energized the (service port) is connected to the (Vent) This (venting) keeps the valve closed. ---When the (Solenoid) is (de-energized) the (service port) is connected to The engine supplied air (via) the tube (thus holding the valve) open Oil Temp Indication:---Sensor located at the scavenge filter. ---Hi-Oil-warn ind @ 155 deg C for 15 minutes ---Lo-Oil warn ind @ -10 deg C (when eng is running above idle speed) ---Ind flashes Green @ 156 deg C and turns amber @ 165 deg C Oil Pressure Indication:----Sensor located L/H fan case ---Low Oil pressure warn @ 60 PSI ---Ind flashes RED ---Automatically (resets) when pressure is above 60 PSI

At 18% - (Fuel Flow) c. At 43% - (Start Valve Closes) & (Ign is turned OFF) d. Engines are (now @ Idle) 4. Mode Selector – (To Normal) after both engines are running. Note: Auto Start is Aborted @ 50 % N2 in case of failure. 2. Manual Start: 1. Mode Selector – (to Ign/Start) – (EEC powers up) 2. Eng Manual p/b Switch – (ON) – (start valve opens) 3. N2 Increases: a. At 18% - (Master Switch to ON) – (Both A & B Ignition & Fuel Flow) b. At 43% (Start Valve closes and Ign is turned off) 4. Engines are now @ Idle 5. Manual P/B Switch (To Off)
