2 Overview
2
Overview
2.1 Introduction In a Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) network, each device is regarded as a signaling point (SP), and each SP has a unique signaling point code (SPC). SPs communicate with each other using their SPC. The SPC coding modes vary according to country or area. Generally, three coding modes are available: 14-bit, 16-bit, and 24-bit modes. Huawei BSC supports all these coding modes. The 14-Digit Signaling Point Code feature provides the following benefits: l
Meets the requirements of different signaling systems, facilitating networking deployment in different countries and areas.
l
Enables equipment to function properly after it is transferred to areas using different coding modes.

Technical Description
In the signaling network, an SP communicates with other SPs using their SPCs. 24-bit SPC has been used in China since 1990. It is also called uniform or one-layer coding scheme. This scheme specifies that all the SPs of the SS7 network in China use 24-bit SPC. Depending on the actual situation of China, 24-bit SPC is classified into three signaling zones in terms of the structure: l
Eight bits for codes of main signaling zone
l
Eight bits for codes of sub-signaling zone
l
Eight bits for signaling point codes
14-bit SPC is widely used across the globe. The coding capacity of 14-bit SPC is 16,384 codes. 14-bit SPC is classified into three parts: zone code, regional network code, and signaling point code. Figure 3-1 shows the coding principles of 14-bit SPC. Figure 3-1 Coding principles of 14-bit SPC
The coding principles are as follows: l
N, M, and L: three bits, for identifying a zone
l
K-D: eight bits, for identifying an area or regional network in the zone
l
C, B, and A: three bits, for identifying geographic position or an SP in the regional network
To facilitate the management of the signaling network, the Consultative Committee of International Telegraph and Telephone (CCITT) specifies in Rec. Q705 that the international signaling network and other national signaling networks should be independently deployed. Therefore, the SPCs are also independent. The CCITT specifies in Rec. Q708 how to plan Issue 01 (2013-05-06)

international SPCs. In addition, the administrative department can determine the national SPCs (either 14-bit SPC or 24-bit SPC) according to actual situations. The value ranges of the SPCs are as follows: l
24-bit SPC: 0x1-0xFFFFFF
l
14-bit SPC: 0x1-0x03FFF
Huawei BSC6900 supports inputting the whole number or a divided number of an SPC. The SPC(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter or the SPCDNF(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter determines the SPC input mode. To enable the 14-Digit Signaling Point Code feature, set the SPCBITS(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter to BIT14(BIT14).

Using the CME NOTE
When configuring the 14-Digit Signaling Point Code feature on the CME, you must perform a single configuration first, and then perform batch modifications if required. You must perform a single configuration for a parameter before batch modifications of the parameter. You are advised to perform batch modifications before logging out of the parameter setting interface.
Step 1 Configure a single object on the CME. (CME single configuration) Set parameters on the CME configuration interface according to the operation sequence described in Table 4-2. For the method of performing the CME single configuration, see CME Single Configuration Operation Guide. Step 2 (Optional) Modify objects in batches on the CME. (CME batch modification center) To modify objects, such as BSCs, BTSs, cells, and TRXs, in batches, click the icon on the CME configuration interface to start the batch modification wizard. For the method of performing batch modifications through the CME batch modification center, press F1 on the wizard interface to obtain online help. ----End Table 4-2 Configuring parameters on the CME SN
