Here are a couple of New Year’s traditions from around the world. China — The traditional Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar and may fall between January 1 and February 19. The celebration lasts for 10 to 15 days. During this celebration, it’s a tradition to play drums and set off fireworks. The Chinese believe that this wards off evil spirits and brings good fortune. Denmark — It may sound rather surprising, but it is considered to be very auspicious to wake up and find a pile of broken dishes in front of your door on New Year’s day in Denmark. Throughout the year, people save all their old dishes to throw at the entrance of homes on New Year’s Eve. The dishes are a symbol of friendship and prosperity for the coming year.
