Process Industry Practices Piping
PIP PN01PV0C01 Piping Material Specification 1PV0C01 Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC), 0.000" C.A. Process
PURPOSE AND USE OF PROCESS INDUSTRY PRACTICES In an effort to minimize the cost of process industry facilities, this Practice has been prepared from the technical requirements in the existing standards of major industrial users, contractors, or standards organizations. By harmonizing these technical requirements into a single set of Practices, administrative, application, and engineering costs to both the purchaser and the manufacturer should be reduced. While this Practice is expected to incorporate the majority of requirements of most users, individual applications may involve requirements that will be appended to and take precedence over this Practice. Determinations concerning fitness for purpose and particular matters or application of the Practice to particular project or engineering situations should not be made solely on information contained in these materials. The use of trade names from time to time should not be viewed as an expression of preference but rather recognized as normal usage in the trade. Other brands having the same specifications are equally correct and may be substituted for those named. All Practices or guidelines are intended to be consistent with applicable laws and regulations including OSHA requirements. To the extent these Practices or guidelines should conflict with OSHA or other applicable laws or regulations, such laws or regulations must be followed. Consult an appropriate professional before applying or acting on any material contained in or suggested by the Practice.
This Practice is subject to revision at any time by the responsible Function Team and will be reviewed every 5 years. This Practice will be r evised, reaffirmed, or withdrawn. Information on whether this Practice has been revised may be found at http://www.pip.org.

Pressure and temperature rating may be limited by certain components permitted by this specification. Refer to manufacturer’s recommended pressure-temperature restrictions. Install in horizontal position with cover up or in vertical position with upward flow. Install in horizontal position or in vertical position with upward flow. Maximum allowable service temperature for PVC type 1120 pipe is 140F (60C) for water service. Rating may be lower for other services. Check manufacturer’s specifications for other specific services. Paragraph A323.4 of ASME B31.3 Code prohibits the use of this material in flammable fluid service above ground as well as compressed air or other compressed gas service. Pipe to be sized to keep maximum fluid velocity at 5 ft/sec (1.5 m/sec) or less. Consult with manufacturer’s specifications for support and mounting requirements for the intended service. See ASTM D2855. Fabrication with PVC and CPVC plastic pipe and components shall follow manufacturer’s instructions and ASME B31.3, Paragraph A328. Plastic pipe to be Type I, Gr 1 PVC 1120 and comply with ASTM D1784 for material and ASTM D1785 for dimensions. Flanged ends shall be full face that meet dimensions per ASME B16.1 Class 125. Fitting material to be Type I, Gr 1 PVC 1120 and comply with ASTM D1784 for material and ASTM D2467 for dimensions. Bra nch on lat era l to be full si zed. Washers shall be used on the back side of flanges. Torque to manufacturer’s requirements. Re-torque per manufacturer’s requirements. Heating of surfaces of plastic pipe is not permitted. Bending of plastic pipe is not permitted. To be used only for final fit up against fixed flanged equipment. Flanged connections to be used only where required.
