INTRODUCTION
This document describes the methods proposed to be used for the Night Works that shall be carried out as part of the Air Separation Unit Construction Works for Qatar Shell’s Pearl GTL Project in Ras Laffan Industrial City in the State of Qatar. In general, execution of any Night Work activity shall be carried out in the same manner as the day work, as described in relevant Method Statements. This Method Statement basically described additional precautions that will be taken during night shifts to ensure the safety of the workforce and the quality of the work. In addition, Gama Procedure for Night Working (T-4.219.624) will be followed.

5. RESOURCES 5.1.
RESPONSIBILITY Site Manager The Site Manager is responsible for the overall management of the relevant construction team (civil or mechanical) to ensure that safe and effective operations are conducted and properly documented.
Site Engineer / Supervisor In addition to his duties for the specific work, which will be the same as the corresponding day work, Site Engineer / Supervisor will ensure that the work area is properly and sufficiently illuminated and all other precautions, as described in this document, are in place.
5.2.
EQUIPMENT
Tower Lights and other lighting devices will be used for the works in addition to those required for the work item as per relevant Method Statement. The number and position of the lights will be determined as per the conditions on site; however, sufficient lighting will be provided to avoid shadows and ensure lights from two sides at least for all night works. Temporary site offices, smoke shelter, rest shelter, toilets and generator to be provided for the night works.
5.3.
M ANPOWER
Operation crew for the night activities will be the same as the corresponding day work.

6. METHOD OF EXECUTION •

TSTI will be conducted at 7.00 pm prior to the commencement of Night Activities; and attendance of all Night Shift personnel to the TSTI will be ensured A night working plan will be made. This plan will basically incorporate the number of people that will work, the places they will work, and for how long they will work and will include number of and position of lighting sources. This will be done before the TSTI is done. Night Activities will be approved by Linde in advance. A new Permit Permit to Work (PTW) will be issued for the Night Works.

All rules for daylight work is valid for night works.

All personnel will wear their PPE at all times including high visible vest.
•
The worksite will be kept clean and tidy.
•
Walkways and passages will be kept free to roam.
•
Lighting will be provided at all work areas and for all access ways.

Extra care for lighting will be spent for portions of the work site night work will be done that has excavated holes and sharp cornered equipment. All Excavations will be barricaded (as per T-4.219.601) Warning Signs and Barriers. No new activities will be started during night shift, night shift activities will be a continuation of activities started during the daytime. The site supervisor will ensure on a daily basis that transportation buses are standing by on site and are ready to be used on request during the night shift. Bus top to be illuminated separately.

8. LIGHTING PLAN PLA N This procedure shall apply to all activities that necessitate the need for working during the hours of darkness on the project.
8.1.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to outline the requirements and responsibilities for any work or activity carried out during the hours of darkness, or in areas where artificial lighting is required.
8.2.

The object of area lighting should be to produce an overall level of illumination sufficient for personnel and equipment to move around safely and to carry out work activities without risk. Generators and Tower Lights shall be checked prior to use to ensure that they meet requirements of the plant and equipment procedure, and has the contractor inspection sticker prominently displayed. Generators, Tower Lights, Lighting poles other metal poles shall be earthed and the circuit fitted with residual current devices. Engines are to be maintained to prevent leakage with the use of a drip tray if necessary. Cables employed for the purpose of temporary lighting shall be clearly marked and routed to ensure that they do not present a trip hazard or other obstruction.

The working load (i.e., number of lights) is to be kept within the manufacturer’s instructions.

Protective guards on lights to prevent breakage.

Torches will be made available for emergency purposes.
