The National Medical Admission Admissio n Test (NMATDecember 2013) NMAT, we met again. Lo l. Here are my NMAT ti ps for yo u! 1. Be there around 7am. Not too early (6am) and definitely not too late (8am). 2. Bring with you your NMAT identification form, a valid ID (PRC ID, driver's license, passport, or any government ID) and pho tocopy o f your Transcript Transcript of Records. 3. I have mentioned in my previous post that undergraduates can already take the NMAT but this time, CEM was strict! There were only 5 undergrads in our room and they were asked to pass some documents (I believe a certification that would say they are expected to graduate this coming Oct 2013 or April 2014) within 5 working days. So, for those undergrads who want to take the NMAT, it's up to you to take the risk. 4. You only need a pencil or 2 pencils at most, sharpener, eraser, candies and sweater or jacket depending on your #ootd. Lol. 5. Pray before taking the exam. PART 1
1. You can start answering any part (Vocabulary, Quantitative, Inductive Reasoning, Perceptual Acuity). The aim is to gain many points as you can. So if you believe you can do better in the Perceptual Per ceptual Acuity (m (mirror irror image) image) then you can start there or if you're good at Math th en you can start there as well. 2. Do not waste your time in one item. Again, the aim is to gain many points. Elimination is also a good method. Disregard the choices that aren't good enough to be the answer just like you remove peopl e in your l ife th at do not give importance to y ou (weh hah a). 3. You only have 3 hours to finish Part 1. The examiner suggested that "don't have shot gun answers instead leave it blank". It's up to you but who knows if you shaded the correct answer? ;) 4. It's a clear instruction not to write anything on the test booklet. Well, in eliminating method, I need to put some markings on those choices I disregarded. Anyway, they won't use the booklet again. 5. There's already a scratch paper provided which is attached in the answer sheet.

VOCABULARY
1.Read books, newspapers, articles over the internet and watch movies/series. Surely you will encounter words that aren't familiar so check the dictionary. Words like truce, sluggish, pry, clairvoyant, rancid, oblivion, quell etc. I was able to track almost 200 words in my "recent bar" of the Dictionary app. 2. Read the questions first in the Reading Comprehension part then go check the selection for answers. 3. Here are some some actual items in the Analogy part: Gasoline:Petroleum::Gold: Best choices: Ore and Medal. Epilogue:Novel::Coda: Best choices: Sym Symphony phony and Orchestr Orchestraa Conformist:Standard::Radical: Best choices: Extrem Extremee and Obstinate QUANTITATIVE
1. Study how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions (proper, improper, mixed fractions). 2. Remember the FOIL method. First, Outer, Inner, Last. 3. Utilize the choices. Trial and error. 4. Review on algebraic expressions, expressions, polynomials, and exponents. 5. Practice the investment, capital, return word problems.

No definit e tips here as our ways of answering such questi ons vary. To save time, just write the alphabet on the scratch paper while the examiner explains the instructions in answering the NMAT. In my case, I disregarded the "Do not write anything on your test booklet" rule. For my convenience, I crossed-out the choices that aren't good enough.

1. I think Biology has the broadest coverage to study in part two as it encompasses subfields like Genetics, Virology, Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology among others. 2. Study Genetics. A question that somehow goes like this: "Pure yellow peas crossbred with pure green peas. The resulting generation was crossbred with its own. The resulting F2 generation will be?". Include in your review Punnett square, pheno types, genot ypes, mutatio n and chromosomal aberrations. 3. Have a background in Virology. The first question in Biology part was "Why is it that virus will not most likely be found on the uppermost portion of the skin?" a. Oil secreted by the skin traps the virus. b. Upper portion of the skin contains dead skin cells only. c. Hair follicle s serve as effective barrier. d. All of the above. 4. Study the practice test sent by the CEM. "Which zone of the ocean is exposed during low tide and covered during high tide?" This question appeared in the actual NMAT. 5. Review plant anatomy and physiology. Hormones like auxin, gibberillin, ethylene and cytokinin. 6. Definitely the DNA and RNA. Question: The hdyrogen bonds in the DNA occurs in? 7. More actual questions: What macromolecule is connected with ester bonds? What happens when the epiphyseal plate of tibia is unossified? Cyanide is a poison and inhibits cytcochrome c oxidase. What is the effect of cyanide in cellular respiration? A fossil was obtained and observed that it has a backbone, a scaly tail, walked on two feet and has feathery feet. This organism is closely related to? 8. I just gave you some actual items that might be seen on the next NMAT.
